alent is commonly described as an artistic or creative aptitude. The ability to do something to a higher standard than others or a naturally recurring pattern of thought, feeling or behaviour that can be productively applied. Researchers claim that talent is not born, but can be cultivated with unlimited motivation, passion, patience and practice. This theory I agreed with until I met Mr Samuel Bridgeman. I have been privileged to cross paths with a few talented celebrities, but none like that of Samuel, popularly known as Hardware Muzyk. Hardware was born on the paradise island of Barbados and was introduced to music at the early age of four when he received his first keyboard. Most kids that age would simultaneously strike every key, repeatedly, much to the annoyance of the listening ear. But not Hardware. His abilities at that age were impressive, to say the least. Effortlessly, he played the national anthem of Barbados at the age of four. This leads me to believe that his abilities were present from much earlier, as far back as from birth, which then challenges the theory that talent is not born. Could Hardware Muzyk be the exception?
As time went on, and Hardware grew older, an unbreakable bond formed between himself and the keyboard. He soon became a hit and at the age of 13, played for the church band, before venturing off to the band Strategy, entertaining all of Barbados enthusiasts. Towards the end of 2015, after a successful European tour, a major breakthrough presented itself. Hardware’s agent was recruiting a musical band to jet off to the Park Hyatt Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The agent had gathered several musical bands to audition for the role, but it was the abilities of Hardware Musyk that stood out the most and earned him a seat on the flight. He recalls the mixed emotions upon hearing the news and knowing he had to raise his game, as this was the perfect opportunity to showcase his talent in a different part of the world. Determined to put both Soca and Bashment Soca on the map, Hardware showed determination and grit which bore fruition in the form of a double contract extension. Hardware continued to build on his abilities and with good networking skills, ensured the Hardware Muzyk brand was everywhere. In 2017 he was nominated in Barbados for the Music of the Year Award. This event honours those in the music industry and recognises the hard work and talent required to be a performer. Success quickly followed, with Hardware’s production of the mega-hit “Give it to ya”, performed by Marzville and a second consecutive nomination for the Barbados Music of the Year Award in 2018. Some of his other productions include the monster track Hardware -Pop down Lady Essence’s - Fluffy Gyal Anthem. Cruise Liner as a Pro DJ. He is currently one of the most sought after DJs affiliated with Carnival Cruise Liner and has nothing but rave reviews from both guests and crew. His talent is always in demand and his work internationally acclaimed. As described by his Manager, most artistes would admit to having a passion for their work. However, Hardware works beyond the line of passion. It’s his way of life. He is described as focused, driven and a serious-minded, multi-talented go-getter. He is the music.
