HOW TO
SPOT A
CREATIVE
MIND
Creative minds view failure for what it truly is 12 insight
1. THEY ARE ALWAYS LEARNING.
Steve Jobs once said creativity is all about connecting the dots, and he’s right. It’s about connecting seemingly disparate ideas and crafting something new with them. Creative minds know this well and use it to their advantage by bringing together a multitude of different inspirations to create something truly amazing.
Incredibly creative minds are always learning. They see every day as an opportunity to learn something new, whether it be learning about a different culture, a new artistic technique or simply a new fact. Creative minds are eager to learn, with this being one of the most notable habits of creative people.
2. THEY SEE EVERY FAILURE AS ONE STEP CLOSER TO SUCCESS. Creative minds view failure for what it truly is, an opportunity to learn and grow. When you’re doing creative work failure is part of the game, it’s inevitable but it doesn’t need to break you. Creative minds are always ready to dust themselves off and try again, seeing every failure they have as just one step closer to success. Famous author Stephen King received 30 rejections for his first book Carrie before finally being published, he like many other famous creators, simply didn’t give up. He kept on trying until he was successful seeing every failure as one step closer.
3. THEY INDULGE IN DAYDREAMING. Creative minds indulge in their daydreams because they understand the power of the mind when it wanders. When the mind is not actively working on solving specific problems or completing a set task it is free to imagine, create and dream big. The most amazing creative minds know the power of this and indulge in daydreaming wherever possible.
4. THEY ARE INTENSELY CURIOUS. The most incredible creative minds are intensely curious about the world around them. They are interested in how things work and why. This curiosity encourages them to learn, investigate and constantly seek out new and novel ideas that spark their minds and help them do their very best work.
6. THEY TAP INTO THE POWER OF COLLABORATION. Great creative minds understand the power of collaboration and they aren’t afraid to tap into it. When two creative minds come together new ideas emerge, meld and surface with the potential to birth amazing things into the world. Designers and artists understand the power of collaboration well, for example designer Yves Saint Laurent and artist Andy Warhol who collaborated in 1974 to create some amazing silk screen portraits or the 2008 collaboration of architect Zaha Hadid and design house Chanel that resulted in the creation of the mobile Chanel Pavilion Gallery that traveled the world.
7. THEY ASK THE BIG QUESTIONS. Incredibly creative minds get big answers because they ask the big questions. They aren’t afraid to dream big and they don’t limit themselves to the bounds of what they know or what’s been done before. By asking the big questions incredibly creative minds dive deep and are able to get to the heart of the issue at play.
8. THEY UNDERSTAND THE POWER OF SAYING NO. Creative minds deeply understand the power of saying no. Not every opportunity is the right one and there is never time to do absolutely everything. By saying no to some things incredibly creative minds carefully curate what they allow into their lives and make more time and head space for their most important projects.
9. THEY TAKE TIME OUT WHEN THEY NEED IT. The best creative minds know that burnout is real and that sometimes the mind just needs a little time out to relax, rejuvenate and be ready to create again. By taking time out the best creative minds are on the ball and ready to make big things when it matters most.
10. THEY SEEK OUT NEW EXPERIENCES. Incredibly creative minds are always seeking out new experiences. They are open to doing and seeing new things because they know that within these new experiences is the inspiration and perspective they need to create their best work.
11. THEY ARE ALWAYS OPEN TO NEW WAYS OF EXPRESSING THEMSELVES. The most creative minds don’t restrict themselves to one medium or way of creating. Instead they are always open to new ways of expressing themselves. Some of the greatest creators of all time have been prolific in their multitude of creative expressions. One of the best examples is Leonardo da Vinci who was a painter, sculptor, mathematician, inventor, architect and musician (to name just a few of his many creative expressions!).
12. THEY FOLLOW THEIR TRUE PASSIONS. Perhaps most importantly of all, incredibly creative minds follow their true passions. They understand the power of doing something they believe in wholeheartedly and are not afraid to chase after their true dreams. Indeed, following true passions is one of the cornerstone habits of creative people. Even when the going gets tough the best creative minds stick to what they believe in and love because it is what drives them.

The leather top added the edgy appeal necessary for an awards show like the MTV VMAs and the skirt cleaned up the look, with its floral pattern and peek-a-boo detailing. She accessorized with a pair of teardrop-shaped earrings from Graziela Gems, EF Collection jewellery and a pair of silver sandals. 14 insight

s modern women, we pride ourselves on our innate ability to handle any emergency that comes our way—even those of the fashion and beauty variety. Okay fine, a few loose beads, a falling hemline, or major hair static probably can’t be classified as dire disasters, but they can be real bitch in the moment—especially when we’re not able to access our arsenal of go-to fixes. That’s why it pays to know which everyday items can pull double duty in a pinch.
Super Glue
Put a dot of super glue on a loose bead or sequin that you don’t have time to sew back on.
Double-Stick Tape
In a pinch, it fixes falling hemlines, removes lint, and it keeps your boobs in place.

A Black Sharpie
Scuffed your black heels or shoe soles? Use a Sharpie to fill it in. This also works if you’ve chipped a dark manicure.
Hanger Foam
Stash a piece of protective foam from the dry cleaner in your bag—it flawlessly removes deodorant, food, and makeup stains on fabric!
Clear Nail Polish
Got a run in your tights? A light coat will ensure they don’t rip even more.
Dryer Sheets
Keep one in your purse to kill clothing static-cling, and static hair.
Matches
In a pinch, the edge of a matchbook can double as a nail file.
Wet Wipes
These clean dirty shoes, spot-clean clothes, loosen too-tight rings, and clean your hands if you’re not near a sink.
Plain Lip Balm
Plain balm can tame fly-aways in a pinch, can make your teeth look shinier, and can even sooth a paper cut or a burn (damn that curling iron).
Mini Flat Iron
If real ironing isn’t an option, a travelsized flat iron can easily remove wrinkles from collars, cuffs, and hems.
A Coffee Filter
Fold one up and stick it in your makeup bag—they absorb shine as well as—if not better than—pricey oil-blotting sheets.

WAYS TO SAVE MONEY
22 insight
Pick a bank that gives back. Look for a bank that makes the most sense for you. Seek out perks like no ATM fees, high interest on savings accounts, and no overdraft fees. Smaller banks often offer better interest rates and perks. If your bank doesn’t offer these perks, call them and ask if they will. Divide up your paycheck. Ask your company’s human resources department to divide up each of your paychecks between your savings and checking accounts. Set a specific percentage to automatically deposit into your savings so you’re less inclined to touch it while out at the bar. Another bonus: Interest rates are generally higher for savings accounts than they are for checking. Set goals with a budgettracking app. Set a goal “Pay off credit card debt!” and then come up with an actionable, realistic plan for achieving it (and then stick to the plan!). Try out financetracking apps that offer a visual barometers of specific goals. Check on your account. Act like the Sherlock Holmes of your bank account and regularly scour for funny-looking charges. Staying on top of your current balance and past purchases allows you to spot errors as well as areas of spending that can be cut back.
Use ATMs sparingly. Be smart about ATM trips. Withdraw a chunk of money every couple weeks and stash it at home. That way you won’t be forced to hit up a non-affiliated bank (and get whacked by ATM fees). Paying with cash will also feel more “real” than using a plastic card. Try withdrawing a set amount each week and sticking to it. To stay organized, you can divide up cash into actual envelopes—not just an app—with categories like “food,” “rent,” and “fun.” When an envelope goes empty, it’s time to stop spending in that section (or swap funds from another one).
Plan withdrawals. If you find yourself needing to use ATMs more frequently, plan each ATM visit carefully to avoid fees. When it’s time to take out cash, make sure you have time to get to your bank (unless it doesn’t charge ATM fees) or go to a supermarket or convenience store that offers cash back with debit purchases.
Treat yourself. This one takes some self-restraint, but we actually endorse a form of frivolous spending! Every once in a while, go ahead and buy something you don’t really need (ahem, another bottle of nail polish). Regularly treating yourself will help you feel less restricted, so you don’t go on a spending binge down the road. Stream fitness classes online. Stream fitness classes for free or for a small fee. Some monthly subscriptions to fitness video sites are cheaper than one in-person class.
Take care of yourself. Get enough sleep, wash those hands, and do whatever it takes to prevent the sniffles. A little TLC, healthy food, and regular exercise can help prevent expensive medical bills down the road.
Give up expensive habits. Ditch the cigarettes, illicit drugs, and excessive 30-racks of beer. This stuff is not only a detriment to human health, but it’s a huge money waster.
Cut co-pays. For prescription meds taken regularly, ask your doc for a three-month supply. Oftentimes, buying a threemonth prescription is cheaper than purchasing month by month.
Make your own shaving cream. Shave pennies off each shave with a DIY cream/ lotion like this one, which uses moisturizing coconut oil, shea butter, and olive oil. Or just use other (cheaper) items from around the house—conditioner, baby oil, or… wait for it… peanut butter! Indulge in a DIY spa day. Facemasks, body scrubs, and hair masks aren’t limited to pricey spas. Make your own spa-like goodies with easy-to-make ingredients lists including bananas and coffee.
Take short showers. Bear the occasional cold shower! Turning down the heat saves money on both water and the energy it takes to replenish your hot water tank. If cold showers are your worst nightmare, try adjusting your hot water heater’s thermostat to 120 degrees or less. You’ll still save energy (without the goose bumps).
Hit up corporate discounts. See if your company offers corporate perks and discounts such as gym memberships, ball games, cell-phone data plans, hotel fare, and concerts.

This may sound draconian, but trust us: flats are not your friend. Secondly, your shoe of choice should expose the top of the foot to lengthen the appearance of your leg; a very thin strappy sandal or classic pump is ideal.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT BLUSH FOR YOUR SKIN TONE
An easy tip for finding your best shade of blush. Question: How can you tell which blush will work best with your skin tone? Answer: It is a cool trick for knowing whether that bright pink blush will flatter you before you even try it on or if you should stick with a soft peach instead. Put the blush in the palm of your hand and match it to the color of your fingertips. Most people just swatch the color on the top of their hand, but the tips of your fingers are the closest match to your cheek color and the back of your ears, two other spots that show your natural blood flow ‘flush’ best. You don’t need to find an exact shade match, but pay attention to how pigmented the color is and whether the undertones are warm or cool and don’t stray too far from there or the color won’t look believable.
HOW TO TAME COWLICKS
HOW TO FIX YELLOW NAILS Learn how to prep your nails for fall’s sheer polish trend. Question: How do you whiten yellow nails safely and quickly? Answer: Denture cleansing tablets, hydrogen peroxide and whitestrips work the fastest, but soaking your nails in lemon juice a few times a week will also do the job. If you go the denture route, dissolve maximum strength ones in a bowl of water and soak your nails for 5 to 10 minutes (and hide them under the sink before your next dinner party). It’s also important to apply 2 layers of basecoat instead of 1.
HOW TO AVOID VARICOSE VEINS Short skirt fans, listen up. Question: Can crossing your legs cause varicose veins? 30 insight
Answer: It might. Anything that blocks the
return of blood flow from legs to the heart will put pressure on those veins. Veins are soft structures without the thick muscular walls of arteries and pressure causes them to stretch and expand as the blood backs up and, ultimately, can speed the development of spider and varicose veins. Family history and having risk factors like large
We will help you on dealing with unruly hair. Question: Why do I have a cowlick in my hair where I didn’t before and how can I fix it? Answer: We hate to break it to you, but cowlicks those stubborn pieces of hair that grow in their own pattern and resist styling aren’t just things you’re born with. Your hair changes every 7-8 years and goes from superfine baby hair to coarse gray hair later on in life. Changes in hair texture are genetic, so cowlicks can’t be prevented, but you can style them so they don’t become unruly. The best way is to follow your head shape and plaster them down with your blow dryer on low heat so you don’t burn your scalp. Remember that cowlicks start at the roots, so you’ll want to smooth on a light-hold serum. Or, you can go a less traditional route: You can push your hair back and put pantyhose on your head while you sleep they keep hair tightly in place, but still let your head breathe.

M
en aren’t always the best at expressing their emotions. It’s not that they can’t talk about their feelings—they just don’t even stop thinking about them very often. Emotion, especially the lovey-dovey stuff, is kind of like elevator music to men. It plays softly in the back of their heads, but most of the time, they’re barely listening. That’s why one should sympathize with any woman trying to figure out how a guy really feels. Most of the time, the guy probably doesn’t even know. Sure, he was just in the emotional elevator this morning, but he was too busy checking his phone for Twitter updates to notice what was coming out of the speakers. But ladies, there is hope. Because even if your guy doesn’t immediately tell you how much he adores you, he’s probably giving off signs that he’s falling for you. Here’s what to look out for:
1. HE SENDS STUPID TEXT MESSAGES
5 SIGNS He’s Falling In Love
WITH YOU 32 insight
The more banal the message, the more love-drunk he is. For instance, if he texts to tell you he’s drinking a margarita or that he just saw a cat that looks like yours, he’s been struck by Cupid’s bow. What he’s really saying is, “I remember you said you like margaritas,” and “I don’t even mind that your cat hates men.” He’s also saying, “Right now I wish you, and your evil cat, and I were all drinking margaritas together.”
2. HE CALLS YOU
There are three reasons men pick up the phone: (a) for work, (b) for emergencies, or (c) to hear someone’s voice. And if you’re not a co-worker or a 911 operator, then it’s your voice that he’s interested in. That’s a true sign of love.
3. HE STOPS GETTING QUITE SO MANY TEXTS FROM OTHERS
Girls only text guys that text them back, right? So if she stops texting, it means he did, too. Or it means he put his foot down. If a girl keeps texting you silly stuff late at night after you’ve already started developing feelings for another girl. Tell Ms. Texty to stop. Hey— that’s not an easy thing to do! But you have to be pretty sure you want out of the dating pool before you drain it entirely.
4. HE ASKS FOR STYLE ADVICE
“What should I write in my brother’s birthday card?” “Do these shoes look OK with these pants?” “What color sweater should I buy for my dog?” These are all questions guys only ask if they are drunk on love hormones.
5. YOU HEAR HIS BUDDIES GIVING HIM A HARD TIME
Nobody knows your guy better than his friends. So listen up: If they say something about how he’s been a turd of a wingman lately, they’re not just being vulgar. They’re actually making astute observations about subtle behavioural changes that you may not have picked up on. So thank those knuckleheads because now you know your guy’s putty in your hands.
Eat Your Omega-3s
Starting off your day with omega-3 fatty acids is a great way to have a happier morning. People who eat foods high in the good-for-you fats are more upbeat. Add walnuts or flaxseeds to your cereal or smoothie, or scramble some lox into your eggs.
Listen to Music
You forgot your lunch, and your dress already has a spot on it. Turn your morning around by listening to upbeat music. Happy tunes can indeed give you a pick-me-up. Looks like Pharrell is onto something!
Log on to Facebook
Here’s the best excuse to check Facebook that we’ve ever heard: Browsing through old Facebook photos can help make you happier. Take a trip down memory lane before you head to work to boost your mood all day long.

Ways to Be More
C
reativity is a part of who we are. Some of us don’t realize this. Creativity is a way of being, and though it can’t be forced, it can be cultivated and allowed. So, if you’re opening up to a more artful and creative life, know that it’s not something to push. It’s something to allow and live. Here are 15 ways to be more creative, and subsequently, more happy!
WALK IN THE RAIN
Walking in the rain can be a happy thing. (Use an umbrella if you want. Rain on umbrellas makes a good sound.)
STOP WATCHING TELEVISION
MAKE A COLLAGE
Or better yet, get rid of the damn thing. TV is a mindkiller. It numbs you. It fills you with emotionally charged images and oversimplified solutions. It dulls you. Turn it off. Even if this idea scares you, turn it off.
TAKE A 20-MINUTE WALK EVERYDAY
It’s easy to become driven about exercise. You go to the Y. You go running. You think that a 20-minute walk isn’t productive or worth much. Take a 20-minute walk and allow the world to just be. Watch things. Stop and smell things. Notice birds. Let the world unfold and show itself to you.
WRITE 10 POSTCARDS
Go pick out some really cool postcards, and then go to a cafe somewhere, and order your favourite Tea ( or Latte if you want) and write postcards to friends and family.
EAT WITH YOUR HANDS
Keep a journal. Do morning pages. Write in longhand. Typing on a keypad into a computer doesn’t always open up that tactile sense-loving part of us that loves to create.
Be a kid again. Make a meal and put the silverware back into the drawers. Eat with your hands. Have some friends over for a silverwareless dinner.
WRITE SONGS TO YOUR PETS
It’s easy to do because you can do it anywhere – while you drive to work, while you make dinner, while you lie on the couch with them.
Put on old disco (Earth, Wind, and Fire, baby!), or new Madonna, or swing. Put it on loud. Dance around your house while you make dinner. Or start the day shakin’ your groove.
Take pictures of anything. And have fun in the old method of actually getting your film developed and the excitement of flipping through photos you haven’t seen yet.
Magazines. A scrapbook page and lots of crayons and paints and stickers. (And thou.) This isn’t a vision board. It doesn’t have a purpose. It’s just for fun and beauty and making something.
WRITE WITH PEN & PAPER
DANCE AROUND THE HOUSE
TAKE PHOTOS. REAL PHOTOS. NOT DIGITAL PHOTOS
BE QUIET
Light a few candles after dark and just sit. Don’t meditate if you don’t want to. Just sit quietly and listen. Watch the candles. Allow for more silence in your life. Drive with no music on. Make dinner in silence. Pay attention to your hands as you slice the veggies. Just be quiet.
READ POETRY ALOUD
Poetry is meant to be read aloud. The words and phrases will tilt your brain and open doors like you never thought they would.
GO SEE A PLAY OR LIVE MUSIC OR LIVE ANYTHING
Get out of the house and experience creativity. Avoid mega-blockbusterHollywood movies whose trailers begin with the deep gravelly voice saying, “IN A WORLD…” (And then bombs go off and Mel Gibson appears) Live performance is an exchange. As an audience member you get to participate. You receive so much more energy from live shows. Go see the symphony, even the small local symphony. See a play. See some improv. There is so much life on a stage, so many improvisational moments, so much about authenticity. You can’t help but take it in.
VISIT A GALLERY
See another artist’s creation. The downtown of any city is bound to have some great galleries. You don’t have to buy anything. Just experience the artistry of someone gifted in glass blowing or pottery or woodwork.
WRITE A LETTER
When was the last time you wrote a letter? Not only is it more fun to make something for someone else, it’s also just a way to get out of yourself.
THE
HIPPEST FASHION
TIPS
W
ith so many bits of advice floating around the Internet, it can be hard to figure out what tips to focus on. Should you follow the trends or define your own sense of style? Is mending your clothes necessary or should you look to a tailor for help? As a gift to you, our dear readers, we pulled together some tips of our own to compile an all-mighty list of 50 fashion tips you can actually use.
KNOW THY BODY:
Know your measurements before you shop. Not only will it cut down the time you spend trying on clothes, it will help you choose outfits that fit your body perfectly. Among the most important body parts to measure are your bust, chest, hips and waist.
38 insight
DON’T GO TOO TIGHT OR TOO LOOSE:
Dressing for your size doesn’t just mean nixing clothes that are too tight from your wardrobe. It also means you shouldn’t wear clothes that are too baggy. Both will make you look frumpy.
MAKE SURE YOU CAN WALK IN THEM:
There are some occasions we’d sacrifice comfort for fashion. After all, four inch heels guarantee that legsfor-miles look. But if it looks better than it actually feels on your foot, you probably won’t wear it. Don’t waste your money (or endure the pain).
PEEK-A-BOO ISN’T CUTE:
Button down blouses are intended to do one thing and one thing alone — stay buttoned down. It looks sloppy if we can see what lies beneath your shirt.
BE A LONE WOLF:
Shop solo. You’ll be able to concentrate more on hunting down exactly what you’re looking for. You’ll save a lot of time while you’re at it too.
REMOVE LINT:
A lint roller is a must-have (cat lovers, you know what we’re talking about). Give your outfit a few quick swipes before heading out the door (don’t forget your back and behind your legs) to catch any unwanted hair and dust on your clothing.
THE POWER OF PEPLUM:
Worried about your waist or hips? Try peplum for an instant slimming effect. It flatters every figure and does wonders at hiding unsightly bulge.
TRY ON THREE SIZES, NOT ONE:
Shoe sizes vary among designers and brands. Start by trying on your usual shoe size, then try on one pair that’s a half-size smaller and a second pair that’s a half-size larger. When in doubt, buy the shoes that are a half-size larger.
KNOW YOUR COLOURS:
Know which colours will flatter you the most by figuring out if the undertones in your skin are either warm or cold. The experts say women with cool undertones look best in white, black, gray, silver, and shades of blue. Women with warm undertones will be dazzling in shades of yellow, gold, brown, green and red.
ORGANIZE YOUR CLOSET:
Organize your closet. This way you’ll be able to see what you own (and actually wear it). Separate your clothes by garment. Figure out what can be folded neatly and what needs to be hanged. Make sure you get the right hangers for shirts, skirts and pants. Use storage shelves to store your purses and intimates and buy a shoe rack.
DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE IS A DREAM COME TRUE:
Keep plunging necklines in place and prevent any fashion mishaps with this godsend. We double-swear by double-sided tape. Invest In A Quality Iron: A quality iron is an absolute must to ensure you don’t damage your clothes. Get one with a range of settings that can conquer even the toughest wrinkles, but gentle enough to iron over delicate fabrics.
GET CHIC WITH AN ULTRA CUTE UMBRELLA:
Rain or shine, we are always trendy. Get yourself a colourful, knock-out umbrella that makes you stick out.
WORK OUT STYLISHLY:
Come on, let’s be serious, the gym can be
an intimidating place with so many buff, sweaty bods. We’d be lying if we didn’t say we never wore mascara before lacing up. But hitting the gym shouldn’t make you fret. It should make you feel good. Getting some trendy workout clothes that fit your body will make you feel more confident and encourage you to break a sweat.
ORGANIZE YOUR JEWELRY:
Store all your jewelry in a jewelry box. You’re less likely to lose them when they have a home. Not only will they be easier to find in one handy location, you’ll remember what you already own so you don’t buy pieces you don’t need. Your jewelry will also last much longer when it’s protected.
ALTER YOUR CLOTHES:
It’s important when you’re investing in articles of clothing that become staples, like blazers and pants that you have them tailored. It will ensure your money is well spent, will make the piece that much more special and will make you feel great every time you wear it. After all, it only fits you.
KNOW YOUR NECKLINE:
Making note of what works for you and what doesn’t is key and neckline plays a huge roll in this. The neckline is the part that shows off your pretty face, so be sure to get it right.
NIX THE CHANGE PURSE:
Change purses can be useful, but if yours rarely sees daylight, either because you don’t put change in it, or worse, never take change out of it (this is just dead weight), then it’s time to say goodbye.
BODY SHAPERS:
Thank goodness body shaping has evolved from Victorian waspies to Spanx (after all, we want you to be able to breathe). Body shapers are ideal for hiding excess bulge (who likes the sight of love handles or muffin tops?) and allows clothes to glide on smoothly.
LIMIT ACCESSORIES:
We love accessories, but we have to draw the line somewhere. If you’re throwing yourself an arm party, then it might be better to steer clear of too many rings. If you’re wearing large earrings that scream for attention, then you might want to forgo an equally radiant necklace — they will only work against each other.
SHOULD YOU
PURSE ESSENTIALS:
A purse isn’t just a fashion statement. Its main purpose is functional. You carry it around wherever you go so it needs to contain some essentials: your wallet, a pen, pain killers, hand sanitizer, tissues, makeup essentials (we personally won’t leave the house without lip stick and/or lip balm), hand cream, gum or breath mints, tampons or maxi pads (no one wants to be caught off guard during that time of the month), and for those of you who spend lengthy bouts talking, texting or gaming, bring your phone charger along.
WHEN IN DOUBT, OVERDRESS:
There’s nothing worse than showing up an event underdressed. Maybe the invite didn’t specify or involved the word casual — but everyone else dressed up not so casually. If you don’t know what the dress code is, overdress. There’s no harm in looking too pulled together, but you’ll feel uncomfortable if you think you look out of place.
WEAR NICE UNDERWEAR:
Wearing nice underwear every day will make you feel special. Sure, not everyone gets to be so lucky and see how nice your underwear is, but you’ll know. Also, be sure to get your bras fitted — often. It will make your clothes hang better and be infinitely more comfortable.
SHARPEN YOUR SEWING SKILLS:
Have a mini sewing kit at home or in your purse. This way you can salvage your favourite blouse or pair of pants by patching up minor tears with some simple needle and thread action.
GET SOME STAY-UP THIGH-HIGHS:
Sometimes pantyhose create an unsightly bulge around our mid-section (ladies, you know what we’re talking about). To eliminate this altogether, why not use substitute pantyhose with stay-up thigh-highs? They’ll do exactly what pantyhose do, minus the bulge.
USE NAIL POLISH TO STOP A TEAR IN ITS TRACKS:
Pantyhose are notorious for ripping. We’ve been victim to this fashion mishap one too many times. Until someone invents pantyhose that won’t tear at the slightest tug, we’ve got a temporary fix. Just dab clear nail polish on both ends of the rip and it should keep it from getting larger.

ure, you may know your roommate’s closet like the back of your hand but there’s noting exciting about borrowing stuff from her anymore. At this point her closet is practically an extension of your own, a place where you can grab cute stuff that you’ve probably already worn. But if you borrow from someone unexpected, that exciting element returns. There are a few looks you can pilfer from your man. And no, we’re not talking about sweatpants to wear around the house. We’re talking real stuff that you can style in such a way that they become cute and stylish on a girl.

A T-SHIRT:
Choose one of his more fitted shirts for the effortless, breezy look that models everywhere have patented. Wear it with skinny jeans, leggings, shorts, even skirts for that cool, oversized look. Try pairing his plain white or grey V-neck with your favourite blazer or rock one of his band tees under your leather jacket. The options are endless.
A PLAIN WHITE BUTTON-DOWN:
It’s a classic look for a seduction scene, but if you’re petite you can totally rock his button-down as a dress…like out in public. Wear it over a slip to ensure it’s full-coverage and that any excessive shortness is under control and style the dress with some beige booties for a super cute look. This also happens to be the best cover up ever (just don’t take a shirt that’s too expensive).
A WATCH: If his watch has an adjustable band, snatch that thing up (if he’s okay with it, of course). There’s something chic and effortless about a woman wearing an oversized men’s watch and we’re particularly into this method…since it gets you the look for free.
A FLANNEL SHIRT:
The nineties are back in a major way so it’s totally time to embrace the plaid. Borrow one from your guy and wear it tied around your waist or over a short dress for a slightly grungy, edgy and totally on trend look.
JEANS: Okay, this one is a stretch…but if you’re guy’s waist size is somewhat similar to your own, try wearing his jeans as a great alternative to a pricey boyfriend style. You can cuff the bottoms if they’re too long – and don’t be afraid to try on his jeans even if you wear a size 26 and he wears a 30. Since you likely have wider hips than he does, you’ll need to size up a bit to wear guy’s jeans and that oversized slouchiness just makes it look better.

RIMA F AKIH “ “ By Rania Ihab
She won’t let anything drag her down the success ladder. She deals with all the controversies that surround her with beauty and grace. She knows what she wants and how to reach it. That’s what makes her Rima Fakih.
You grew up as a tomboy, what attracted you to the pageants world? I grew up a tomboy but in my heart, just like every girl, I wanted to be a princess. I never believed I could be beautiful and wear big beautiful gowns. My mother helped me see my true potential and so I went for the gold.
How does it feel to be the first ArabAmerican to hold the Miss USA title? It is a great honor to be the first Arab-Muslim Miss USA. I am proud of who I am and will continue to break barriers.
What did the whole experience add to Rima Fakih? The whole experience has been life changing and a big responsibility. I still stop and remind myself of what I have accomplished. However with great power comes great responsibility and that is very serious.
As an Ambassador for Arabs and Muslims in America, what would you like to be remembered for? I would like Arabs and Muslims to remember me for being fearless and for speaking up for my religion and ethnicity. My father always says “you don’t know who you are till you know where you came from.”
Did you ever face any struggles with your double identities? I don’t have double identities; I am just Rima Fakih.
How did you feel the moment you were crowned Miss USA back in 2010? The night I was crowned Miss USA I was numb. After the struggle of having no sponsors and no one but family who believed in me, I had won. It was so much to take in but I knew I deserved it more than anyone. Be your own believer first!
Then comes your WWE gig, what could ever attract a beauty queen to join the WWE? I grew up being a wrestling fan; also I was the first beauty queen to offer free self-defence courses for women. WWE just fit right in!
What changed in your life after becoming Miss USA?

FaceTime with my mom and dad. I then prepare breakfast and lunch to make sure I don’t cheat on my diet. I end up dancing and responding to my over 1k unread emails and end my day by completing my biography that I am releasing in 2015.
My life changed completely after winning Miss USA. It was not easy to see everyone change towards you. I didn’t like it at first but I realized that it was just everyone’s true colors coming out and all I had was my family. I was so happy to be the queen and I wasn’t going to let anyone take that from me.
How do you deal with the false accusations and unpleasant rumors that surround you all the time?
How do you spend your day if you’re not working?
What’s next for Rima Fakih?
If I’m not working I like to wake up and go running with my pitbull on the beach. Then I
I deal with false accusations and unpleasant rumors by celebrating. Because if some people are taking time out of their day to hate on me that means I am doing it right!!!
I have my own TV show coming out in a few months following up the release of my book. I will top that all of with my own feature film.
INSIGHT SCOOP Beauty is 40% looks and 60% amazing personality. My secret talent is that I am my own #1 fan and believer. I can’t leave my house without my chapstick. The best thing about being a queen is being grateful for the crown I hold. My number one beauty rule is keep your head up high.

Insight Scoop Favorite fall trend: Rich brocade mini dresses printed with gold keys and little jeweled ankle boots and silk jersey dresses with laced corsets. My Fashion Motto is: Nothing is more beautiful than the design; except the woman wearing it. I would never design: Let me rephrase it by saying “I would never copy a design”. My role model is: Coco Chanel, with her trademark suits and little black dresses. I wish to dress: Every celebrity, and every woman who appreciates and values my designs.
1. What attracted you to the fashion world? My interest in fashion developed in my youth, as I loved to sew and I often modified my own clothes and embroidered them. My mother also opened me up to various sewing techniques and taught me several handicrafts including embroidery and needlepoint, as well as designing and making accessories. My love for fashion motivated me into this world. Fashion is such a rich field and has broad horizons where the more you learn, the more you discover and the more you are enticed to learn even more. It enabled me to show my capacities, my art and my taste. 2. How can you evaluate the industry in the Middle East today? Despite the worldwide economical crisis, one third of our clients come from the Middle East. This region has outstanding capacities; this is why we have to preserve the required quality and caliber to ensure the future of the fashion industry. Not to mention that a lot of Arab fashion designers have become internationally known and have proven to be serious competitors to foreign world-known fashion designers. 3. What is your source of inspiration as a designer? My imagination is my main source of inspiration. The imagination is what gives each designer his/her own special touch. But of course, what supports this imagination is everything beautiful, such as a painting or a rich fabric that could be translated into a certain design. If I am sketching a design for a specific woman, her personality would be my main source of inspiration.
“
4. Your success reached an international level and a lot of Hollywood celebrities were spotted in Mireille Dagher couture, who is your favorite to dress and why? I would like to dress Angelina Jolie, not only because she is gorgeous but because she holds a noble and humanitarian position as a U.N ambassador for refugees in the Middle East. I love all the celebrities who have worn my designs, such as Paula Patton, Zulay Henao, Rita Guades, Terri Seymour, Jeannie Mai, Brooke Burke, Morena Baccarin, Gabrielle Union, Shanola Hampton and many others. 5. What is the hardest part about being an international designer? When you present your collection to an international audience you have to review each design and every detail. Every collection is a source of new responsibility that grows with fame. The more famous you get, the higher you aim for bigger ambitions. You feel that you have to make more efforts to offer the best you have to all fashion lovers across the world. 6. What did you aim to achieve when you started the ‘Mireille Dagher’ brand? My goal was to satisfy my desire of becoming a world famous designer, as well as the financial profit that would help me uphold the best quality of production and move forward to always refine and improve my work. 7. From all of your collections, which is the closest to your heart and why? Each of my shows is essential in my professional journey, but the first one I presented in Lebanon is my favorite as it was the first glimpse of fame I got and it opened for me a
lot of opportunities. 8. How do you prepare for a new collection? And what’s the hardest part of the process? Each of my collections is a starting point for the creation of the following one, because I pay a lot of attention to the feedback I receive. The main point of focus is to create something special, new and usually there are different directions to take during the preparations. You have to make sure to choose the right path, preserve the theme and be able to combine two different ideas in perfect harmony to constitute the collection. 9. What is your advice for the upcoming designers who wish to follow your path? I advise them to be patient and persistent because the competition is getting bigger. They have to give their best to stand out, and make the best use of media and internet. They have to always come up with original ideas, and new techniques. That would help them succeed in the demanding world of fashion. 10. If you get to choose one icon (dead or alive) to be the face of your new collection, who would you choose and why? I would choose Lady Diana for her elegance, beauty and popularity, and also because she was very natural and lacked any sort of pretention regarding her title. 11. What’s new for Mireille Dagher? My 2015 Ready-To-Wear Spring/Summer collection was launched during ‘Paris Fashion Week’, and the 2015 Spring/ Summer Haute Couture collection will be launched next month.

The architecture, fashion silhouettes and jewelry were outstanding. Also the fact that there was no technology and people had to directly communicate with each other makes it quite unique for me. There was certainly inspiration everywhere, especially within the small details. 8- How did you create the illustration for the entire characters of ‘My Bucket of Ice Cream’? Luci who writes ‘My Bucket of Ice Cream’ is a collaboration between Fustany.com and myself. She started writing by the beginning of 2013 discussing many issues people face on daily basis. Once I receive her weekly story, I try to capture her character through illustration as well as capturing the readers’ imagination, each week has to be different than the one before and focus on a different element to deliver to the readers. 9- What’s the hardest thing about painting the same characters more than once? Maintaining the essence of the character as well as keeping it fresh, exciting and different each time. 10- What’s next for Shamekh? I’m planning to open up my own design house branching out into two areas I’m very passionate about. The first would be designing garments and the second would include architecture.

You are an actress, fashion designer and beauty expert, which field is the closest to your heart and why?
Since I was a little girl I’ve been fascinated by the fashion and beauty field. Despite earning a degree in managements and human resourses from the AUC, I didn’t work in that field and instead chose to pursue my old dream and so I travelled to Italy to study fashion design.
How was your breakthrough in the fashion field?
As I told you, I travelled to study fashion in Milano and specialized in fashion styling. At that time, I was so happy for achieving something unique in my life. After I earned my degree, I returned immediately to the UAE and started preparing for my programme ‘Zafa’, with Dubai TV channel and together we translated my dream into a beautiful reality. After that I was chosen to be the consultant for ‘Makeup Forever’s Artistic Show’ at ‘Abu Dhabi Film Festival’ and that same year, I was chosen to be an ambassador for ‘Pond’s’.
What about your experience as a jury member in ‘House of Lux’?
I am more than happy with this experience; because I got the chance to discover some real talents in the fashion-design field, and I am dedicated to support them till they achieve their dreams.
How does Dana see ‘Beauty’?
Beauty comes from the heart and soul, those who posses this quality are the most beautiful ones.
What about cosmetic surgeries?
I am against cosmetic surgeries because no one on earth can surpass the work of God.
What’s your advice for any woman who doesn’t know how to stand out?
She needs to learn how to take care of herself, how to walk, talk and dress. She must be poised, not just dress stylishly, but act with elegance and grace.
‘Sisters Soup’ presented you, Mais and Mai in a different way, what did you gain from this experience? It was such a lovely experience that I enjoyed so much. The best thing about ‘Sisters Soup’ is that I got the opportunity to work with Mai and Mais.
Do you have any upcoming mutual projects?
Yes we are preparing something huge, it will be a surprise.
What attracted you to ‘Alaraf” series?
-I received a lot of offers to star in TV series in Egypt before ‘Alaraf’ but I was not attracted to any of them. I didn’t feel that they’ll present me to the Egyptian audience properly, and that’s what I found in ‘Alaraf’. Besides acting with a legend like Adel Imam is a life opportunity no one can easily refuse.

How did you guys meet and decide to start ‘Fabrica’? ‘Fabrica’ is not a band. It is Egypt’s first independent Music Theater Company. It has been the dream of Dr. Neveen Allouba, to gather all her talented singing students and to create a platform for them to gather experience and grow as artists. She was joined by her long time colleague Dr. Raouf Zaidan and the multi talented Stage Director Mohamed Abou El Kheir and created ‘Fabrica’.
Who came up with the name ‘Fabrica’, and what’s its significance? Neveen Allouba: The name ‘Fabrica’ was chosen for different reasons, first because it is a name used both in the Arabic and European languages, and means the same for all. Second, we consider our work as vocal coaches as an entity that produces singers… hence a factory for voices.
What do you enjoy more, live performances, or being in a recording studio? Nesma Mahgoub: Definitely live performances; reaction with a live audience is the essence of our work.
Which song that you’ve performed is the closest to your heart? Hany Mostafa: My role as Jean Valjean in our production of ‘Les Miserables’ gives me the chance to sing very honest lyrics put to beautiful music. I believe my favorite song is when my character is pleading with God to take his life instead of the young man whom his adopted daughter loves in ‘God on high’.
What has been your favorite gig to perform at? Rita Achkar: Definitely the Thalia Theater on Broadway in New York! ‘Fabrica’ toured 4 cities in the USA early 2014. To sing on Broadway, the city that hosts all world famous musicals, was awesome. We had full a house with people standing outside trying to get in after all tickets were sold out.
How do you intertwine Arabic music and a western vibe? Mostafa Rashad: Music is an international language of different dialects, if one knows its alphabet, one can easily combine the different styles, and it just needs awareness of the different styles.
Who do you look upto as musical inspiration? Christine Magdy: My idol is Celine Dionne, I have been listening to her songs since I was a little girl, and through her my desire to become a singer was born.
What is the message you try to send to your audience with your lyrics? Dalia Farid Fadel: When I write my own lyrics, I try to portray our everyday life with its everyday feelings. Our country has gone through so
much in the past 3 years, that it presents any artist with a very large palette of emotions, so it is our mission to present them in our works.
Where is your dream place to preform? Nathalie Alain: At the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Is it hard to breakthrough the music industry here in Egypt? Aly El Alfy: Yes, it is. An artist gathers his fame mainly from live performances and concerts, and we have been lacking the chance to perform since 2011. Online marketing is not enough.
What can we look forward to seeing from your Theater Company in the future? Mohamed Abou El Kheir: Our new production of ‘El Leila El Kebeera’ lyrics by the great Salah Jaheen, and music by Sayed Mekawi, is going to be presented for the first time at the Sawy Cultural wheel along with other performances at The Nile University and the Cairo Festival City to follow. Our ‘Fabrica Chamber Singers Choir’ is preparing a Christmas Concert for that season and we will be performing all over Cairo including the Cairo Opera House. We are also planning a big season for 2015.
What advice would you give to aspiring musicians that haven’t found their break? Raouf Zaidan: Keep believing in yourselves and your talent, but make sure that it is backed up by good training, knowledge and hard work. Talent is never enough to make it into the professional world.
What type of music do you listen to on your down time? Neveen Alouba: Virtually all types ranging from Classical through Pop, Rock, Country, Arabic Classical and Pop and even Metal. As a professional, one has to keep in touch with the current scene and learn from it.

What can you tell us about yourself? Well, I am the mother of two beautiful girls, a wife to a great husband and have the luxury to have a fantastic job and calling. I am the Founder and Managing Editor of What Women Want…Magazine and the Managing Director of Media & More, a digital media agency.
What inspired you to start your magazine? It somehow just happened, no spectacular story behind it to be told. I guess it was the passion for writing and wanting to start something of my own and the rest just happened. It was more a jump into the cold water rather than rock solid business planning, now we are 8 years older and wiser and I am grateful that we are still around given the tough economic circumstances that print media is facing. Media & More started as a byproduct of the magazine, when clients began asking for marketing activations and ideas, so I thought we might as well charge for that and do it in a more professional set up, so the company came to life as a full service creative boutique offering different marketing services. In 2009 we launched a digital media department, which is now the key focus of the agency, handling social media for reputable clients in Egypt. In 2010 we launched “The Travel Mag”, as the only travel magazine in Egypt. Unfortunately, we had to put it on hold since the revolution as the travel and tourism sector suffered a great deal. I hope that we can re-launch it soon.

INSIGHT SCOOP My secret talent… I paint when I need to vent. My role model…. There are many. I have no cliché answer to that because many people I met have touched me on different levels and taught me something or triggered in me the notion of ‘I would love to be like you in this or that aspect’. On a typical day I…. am in the office with a messy bun. The one thing I can’t live without…. I have to admit it is my phone as shallow as it may sound.
Why ‘What Women Want’? You mean the name? I would love to have a great story behind it but honestly we were preparing a presentation about the magazine for the zero issue and had to be ready for a client meeting the next day, so we came up with this name as we couldn’t send the proposal without a name, I mean who would take us seriously without a name? (Laughs) So, fact is this is exactly what happened in terms of naming my firstborn.
How can you describe the magazine’s successful journey? It is a constant roller coaster ride with ups and downs full of different learning experiences and for me personally one of the most exciting phases of my life. It is like I grew older with it, it has been part of my life for 8 years now. It is an overwhelming feeling to watch my firstborn grow and evolve. It is also great to see my team developing and growing into it, adding their own twist and fingerprints, which creates this interesting blend. We also really love what we do and I believe that this shows. I am very proud of my team, who are fabulous, authentic and genuine. What more can I possibly ask for?
You’re a super mum and a successful entrepreneur what’s your secret?
What’s your advice for the young entrepreneurs who aim to follow your path?
I am not a Super Mom but I would like to think that all moms are Super Moms. I have a great support system around me. On professional level I have the best team ever, we are like family and we think alike. On personal level my husband, sister and parents are my safety net, which allows me to juggle many balls in the air at the same time. I guess I am very lucky to have all these great people around me, who make it easier to be myself and pursue what I love.
Choose something you love; that is the biggest luxury you will ever afford yourself. Work hard, always look ahead for your goal and never waste time looking left or right on what others do, it will slow you down and suck your energy. Always stick to your principles and integrity; no money is worth compromising. Try your best, fail and try again. It is completely ok.
As an entrepreneur, what are the challenges that face you in the business? Well, being a law abiding Egyptian citizen is a challenge in itself, add to that being an entrepreneur, and the mess is complete. I think the biggest challenge is that there is no entrepreneur friendly business environment in Egypt. We are not supported to grow but rather face loads of red tape and corruption to get things done the “right” way. A lot has to change in that regard.
Your magazine stands alone in the publishing field with its bold (sometimes shocking), out of the box topics. What are you rebelling against? Oh wow, thanks that is a nice compliment I don’t know if it is rebellion or if we just have a different outlook on things. We try to tackle the issues that interest us as a team the most. Sometimes they seem shocking at first glance but then again reality often is too. We try to reflect on things that bother us, or things we would like to change or create a debate about. We pick up things from our surroundings.
What do we still need to do to gain equal rights under the male domination? I think we need to start raising our sons differently. I believe that the patriarchal society is safeguarded by women, who raise their daughters to comply and their sons to do as they please. It starts with “make your brother some tea” which is just a tiny example of male domination and female submission rooted in most families. We need a lobby for rights that empower women and set them as equal to men in all aspects of public life.
What does May Abdel Asim want? I want so many things. I want everything. I want to keep doing what I do. I want to be a good mother to my kids and I always want more. I want to be happy, healthy and be a free spirit.

What can you tell us about yourself and what are your specialities as a chef at Kempinski Nile Hotel?
My name is Khaled, I’m the Executive Chef of Kempinski Nile Hotel. I have around 20 years of experience in the culinary field. I have started my career working for Mena House Hotel, Movenpick Hotel then Le Meridien Hotel. I moved to the Gulf area for a while but then decided to return back to Egypt and joined The Four Seasons Hotel. After that I joined Kempinski and within 10 months I was promoted to an Executive Chef. At Kempinski, we have always been no.1 in terms of service and food quality.
What did you gain after joining Kempinski Nile Hotel? A lot of things! The luxury and the opportunity to learn and work with one of the most professional chefs I have met in my career. I go to a lot of cross exposures, I have seen a lot of new cooking techniques and dishes during these cross exposures and that helped a lot in boosting my career. We are going for a Gourmet Summit in India this year. This year is a F&B year for Kempinski.
What are your new additions for Kempinski’s cuisine?
Our vision now is to establish new cooking techniques that will definitely have a positive reflection on the market. For the time being, we are trying new materials and local products. Before, we used to rely on imported vegetables, but now we use the local materials we have in terms of poultry, sea food, meats and vegetables. We’ve been gaining a lot of positive feedback about our food.

GOOD FOOD IS NOT
ABOUT THE CHEF,
VENUE OR INGREDIENTS
BUT ABOUT CONSISTENCY
AND CREATIVITY How do you mange to meet every style and taste?
This comes with experience. I’ve travelled a lot and now I have enough experience to judge what’s good and what’s not.
What’s your secret ingredient?
If you like what you are doing you’ll reach the wow factor. If you took the job as a routine one day you’ll fail. You have to culture yourself from time to time with what’s new, watch international chefs and learn what are the new ingredients, materials and cooking techniques, accordingly you’ll reach the top of your career in no time. And with time you’ll find that you’re strong enough to do whatever you want.
What’s your signature dish?
If I got to choose an Egyptian dish it would be the Quails with Morel mushroom ,pistachio and cherry sauce.
What’s the strangest plate you’ve been asked to cook?
One day the former Minister of Foreign Affairs asked me for a plate of Bosara. Another weird request was from a bride who asked for a “Sabahya Balady”.
What’s your work motto? Passion is evrything.
What are the mutual factors all people agree upon when it comes to food? Taste, quality and presentation.
What’s new for Kempinski Nile Hotel?
We recently introduced a sushi menu at ‘The Jazz Bar’. Sushi is everywhere, but not everywhere serves good sushi. At Kempinski we have what we call the exotic sushi. Good food is not about the chef, venue or ingredients but aboutconsistency and creativity. Soon we will re-launch ‘The Blue Restaurant and Grill’ with a new concept. We are also planning to launch the ‘Roof Top’ as a night venue, it has one of the most amazing views in Egypt and with the quality of food and service offered, it’s an ambiance that can’t be missed.
What’s different about working for Kempinski Nile Hotel?
At Kempinski there is something that we live by that we call DNA, which is passion for European luxury, believing in entrepreneurship, being straightforward and innovative and supporting the new talents. At Kempinski you are not brain washed, but you grow as a creative talent. We are the oldest luxury hotel company in the world, but we are the only hotel company that is built around F&B and not just venue.
Skin-Care Tips FOR FALL It happens every year; summer winds down and the cool weather slowly makes its way in. As hard as it can be to pack away those shorts and summer dresses, it feels good to drag out the sweaters and the jeans. Don’t forget though, just because your jeans and sweaters cover your skin doesn’t mean that you can take a break on your skin care regimen. Proper care can mean the difference between healthy skin and dry flaky skin. 1. RE-ASSESS YOUR BODY CLEANSER In the summer, fruity shower gels are a popular treat, but just be sure that your current favourite isn’t going to dry out your skin when the dry cold weather comes in. You’ll want to find a shower gel that is soap-free as well as hydrating. In the fall and winter, put away the gels and bring out a creamy body wash. 2. TRY AN OIL-BASED SCRUB Oily based scrubs are perfect for fall and winter because you are getting the exfoliating benefits with the extra bonus of hydrating oils. And when it comes to oily scrubs, the choices are endless! You can find scrubs that have a lot of oil swimming on top all the way to scrubs that are more of a solid consistency. 3. MOISTURIZE EVERY SINGLE DAY If you want to keep dry skin at bay, you must hydrate your skin on a daily basis. The best time to apply your lotion is right after you’ve dried off after your shower or bath. Seal in the moisture that’s already been absorbed into your skin. 4. ANALYZE YOUR SKIN When the seasons change, you may notice your skin type changes as well. This is the time where some with oily skin might notice their skin turns a bit normal, or those with normal skin might consider their skin is suddenly dry. Watch your skin as the weather turns cold to see if you need to change up your skin care products and switch them accordingly. If you aren’t sure whether your skin needs a new regime, try talking to a consultant at a cosmetics counter. Many times they can ask you simple questions to see what skin care type you fall in. 5. DON’T FORGET SUNSCREEN Just because you may not be lying on the beach doesn’t mean you can forget the sunscreen for the next 6 months. Sunscreen is a daily essential, so don’t set it aside. Use a moisturizer with SPF 15 at the minimum and reapply with a facial sunscreen throughout the day as needed. 6. REMEMBER YOUR FEET Your feet are going to be stuck inside your boots and heals for months to come, and if you continue taking care of them and exfoliating them on a regular basis, you’ll have no problem popping back on your sandals when the time comes.

Looking much more appealing with the airy, friendly vibe and overlooking the lavish green areas, we were treated for the long leisurely BBQ Brunch. The Garden Promenade Café is a bustling hotspot on weekends during BBQ Brunch, which is served from 1 till 5pm. The garden is a marble gangway through marvelous gardens with tables neatly laid out providing an amazing view. The whole atmosphere is very good, vivid and relaxing, thanks to the amazing Jazz band that entertained us with the best Jazz melodies.

AL ETHAD COMPANY
HAS ACQUIRED THE PROXY
OF ESTEE LAUDER IN EGYPT Insight met Haidy Wahba, the marketing manager of Al Sharief Group, to clarify a few points about Al Sharief’s mission statement and the rumors surrounding their eligibility to get the proxy of Estee Lauder. Haidy Wahba
First of all, we’d like to know more about Al Sharief Group.
Al Sharief Group for Marketing and Fragrances is an Egyptian company that has many international proxies in the field of makeup, perfumes and watches. Mr. Saeed Al Sharief established that company 15 years ago, and then he opened many exhibitions and reached more than nine exhibitions in Cairo and Alexandria. Lately, Mr. Al Sharief established Al Ethad to be a sister company to Al Sharief group.
What are the most important brands that Al Sharief group has their proxy in Egypt?
Al Sharief group has the proxy of many international brands like Bogart, Caron, La Martina, Polo Beverly Hills, Burberry, Salvador Dali, Emanuel Ungaro, Jaguar and St. Dupont for fragrances. Deborah, Florelle, Jordana and Mavala for makeup and Adriatica for watches. In addition to Tie brands like Lanvin, Chiroti and Yves Saint Laurent.
Could you give us a brief overview about Al Ethad Company?
It is a new Egyptian company established by Mr. Al Sharief. Its main target is to acquire major international proxies to market international brand products legally in Egypt. The first proxy the company managed to get is Estee Lauder.
But there are many rumors questioning the fact that Al Ethad managed to get the proxy of Estee Lauder.
These rumors are very far from the truth. Al Ethad succeeded in getting the proxy of Estee Lauder for the first time in Egypt, and the first brand to be launched will be Aramis & Designer Fragrances that contain eight famous brands.
What are the products included in Aramis and Designer Fragrances?
Michael Kors, Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, Aramis, Zegna, Kiton and many more.
When did the company get the proxy of Estee Lauder? August 2014. 64 insight
What are the brands that may follow Estee Lauder?
Bobbi Brown, Clinic and many others but Aramis & Designer Fragrances is the one we currently have chosen to market its products in Egypt.
When is the launching of Aramis & Designer Fragrances in Egypt? October 2014. And we are planning to hold a great launching event.
In your opinion, why did the competitors spread such rumors? And what is your response?
Many competitors presented business proposals like ours to the proxy, but ours was chosen. Logically, there has been some kind of professional jealousy that made the competitors spread such ridiculous rumors. And I tell them wait and you will see yourselves. You will realize how qualified we are in marketing the proxy’s products successfully in Egypt.
Is Al Ethad Company planning to get more international proxies in Egypt? Of course, Estee Lauder is the first proxy we managed to get, but we will have more international proxies in the future.

C Hair Tricks reative
THAT WORK PERFECTLY L
et’s be honest. We love learning new hairstyles, dyeing our hair new colors, and doing a DIY hair mask on a Thursday night, but when it comes down to it, the more shortcuts we can take with our hair, the better. That doesn’t mean cutting corners, necessarily, but simply learning the worthwhile tricks that really work. We collected the 10 most creative hair tricks we’re sharing with you. Want subtle highlights but don’t want to empty your wallet? Squeeze out an entire lemon into a dish, dip a clean toothbrush into the juice, and gently comb it through your hair. Then, go sit in the sun for about 45 minutes to an hour (wearing SPF, of course!). Do this once every two weeks or so and the lemon juice will naturally lighten your hair in the sun. Get rid of static in your hair by using dryer sheets. With one sheet, smooth it over your entire head going from root to ends. To avoid getting static altogether, rub the dryer sheets on your brushes and combs before using them on your hair. Make your ponytail look fuller by using the hair clip trick. Pull your hair into a ponytail at the back of the crown of your head and secure it with a hair tie. Separate it into two sections (top and bottom), and with a small-to-medium sized

claw hair clip, clip hair at the base of the ponytail, underneath the top section. Place the top section of hair over the clip and spray a bit of dry shampoo to get a fuller texture and hide the clip. To remove all of the build up that can happen in your hair (oil and product build up can clog up your scalp and put a halt on your hair growing!) Mix baking soda in water to create a paste, and use that to wash your hair. Rinse the baking soda out with a mixture of apple cider vinegar for a completely natural, clean head of hair. Baby hairs and cowlicks are incredibly annoying, but there’s a way to tame them. Spray a toothbrush with strong hold hairspray and comb down the baby hairs and cowlicks so they’ll sit with the rest of your hair. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase will help to prevent hair breakage and damage that can happen in the middle of the night as you toss and turn. Cotton and other textures mixed with your hair moving back and forth can create friction, which is what can cause the hair to break. A lot of the time, girls with brunette or red hair shy away from dry shampoo because of the white residue that is often left over. DIY your own dry shampoo for darker hair so that you can skip washing

your hair! Mix 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, and a dash of cinnamon. Apply at your roots and shake through with your fingers for a refreshed head of hair! If it takes you a very long time to straighten your hair, you may have the temperature setting on your flat iron too low, which means you need to go over the same pieces of hair multiple times, which can cause more damage. Instead, turn up the heat (to a mid-high temperature) so that you can go for a single pass and decrease damage. Protect your hair from chlorine in the pool by completely wetting your hair and saturating it in conditioner, leaving it wet. Your hair will soak up the chlorine-free water and conditioner instead of the pool water, which will prevent the damage and color turning that chlorine can do. Reduce frizz by drying your hair with a cotton t-shirt instead of a towel, then blow drying on the cool setting. Regular towels can cause a ton of friction that disrupt the cuticle and create frizz, so cotton t-shirts absorb water without causing friction. Make sure to squeeze your hair, not to rub it, while drying (which can, surprise, create more frizz-making friction). Blow-drying on the cool setting to keep the cuticle closed, which won’t make as much of a frizzy mess as the hot setting.

THE SIX KEY BENEFITS OF
Pilates
ALIGNMENT Pilates gives you an opportunity to learn to correct your misalignments and allow your muscles to work as efficiently as they should. KEY BENEFITS •The impact of gravity on your spine and joints will be reduced every day, whether you are moving or at rest. •The risk of strain or injury is lessened with good alignment, particularly with more challenging and dynamic exercises. Improvements in your posture, how you carry yourself, and how you move every day result from awareness of body alignment.
FLEXIBILITY Flexibility is essential for your overall fitness and vitality. It ensures a greater range of movement in your joints, and will in turn mean your joints remain healthy and far better against normal wear and tear as they age. KEY BENEFITS •Your muscles are free from tension, and your movement is unrestricted, when you achieve good flexibility. •Your posture will improve, because you will be able to hold your muscles correctly. •Better blood circulation results from improved flexibility, because it helps the muscles to align more effectively. Improved circulation also gives you a boost of energy. •Joints stay healthy as you age: they resist wear and tear better if they are flexible and move freely. 68 insight

You can simply use your own body weight to create resistance for your muscles and to tone up.
SHAPE AND TONE Pilates uses your body weight and the occasional prop as resistance for shaping your muscles, but it trains every part of your body evenly – front, back, and sides. KEY BENEFITS •Develop more muscle definition through Pilates exercise – sculpt your waist and shoulders and tone your abdominals, arms, thighs, and your buttocks. •Change your body shape completely with regular practice of Pilates. With work, you should see a beautifully toned and lengthened body emerge.
STRESS RELIEF Pilates focuses on breathing – a deep, mindful pattern of breathing that instantly enhances feelings of calm and release in the body and mind. KEY BENEFITS •A sense of calm and wellbeing is encouraged by the relaxation of tense muscles during Pilates. •Pilates releases endorphins, which naturally cause the body and mind to feel more relaxed and positive. •Your sleep will improve with regular Pilates, which will greatly reduce any fatigue and stress.
YOU’LL RE-DISCOVER YOUR BODY’S NATURAL MOVEMENT PATTERNS AND EXPERIENCE SIX KEY BENEFITS
STRENGTH Pilates is a wonderful body-conditioning programme because you don’t need any equipment in order to strengthen your body. You can simply use your own body weight to create resistance for your muscles and to tone up. KEY BENEFITS •You are less likely to suffer from muscular and joint aches and pains, or to injure yourself; because your balance and the way you carry yourself will improve. •You rev up your metabolism by building muscle, so that even when not exercising your stronger body burns more calories. •Strength leads to greater health: by committing to a Pilates way of life, you will lower your blood pressure and reduce your cholesterol levels. •Pilates builds strength from the inside out, from your deep core muscles, so that they support your body effectively in movement, and outwards to the limbs. ENDURANCE Pilates builds endurance within individual exercises and also within workouts. KEY BENEFITS •Pilates builds stamina, not only physical, but mental. •Immense strength and tone in the body is developed in Pilates by using your own body weight. •Improved concentration results from focusing on completing each repetition, exercise, and sequence.

THE OCEAN TWINKLES
Sapphirina 72 insight
C
opepods are a group of small crustaceans found in every fresh water habitat and sea habitat. Some drift in sea water and some live on the ocean floor and others may live in wet terrestrial places. Sapphirina Copepods are the rice of the sea, tiny shrimp-like animals at the base of the ocean food chain. They are generally not known for their charisma, but for their shine. ea sapphires are an exception. Though they are often small, a few millimetres, they are stunningly beautiful. Like their namesake gem, different species of sea sapphire shine in different hues, from bright gold to deep blue. The reason for their shimmering beauty is both complex and mysterious, relating to their unique social behaviour and strange crystalline skin. These little diamonds were found in Africa as well as Rhode Island and California. They tend to congregate in large masses at the water’s surface which makes the water sparkles like it’s filled with little drops of twinkling crystals, or as a Japanese fisherman referred to it as “tama-mizu” or “jewelled water”. he reason for the sapphire’s shine is the microscopic layers of crystals inside their cell. In the case of blue sea sapphires, these crystal layers are separated by only about four ten thousandths of a millimetre, about the same distance as a wavelength of blue light. When blue light bounces off these crystal layers, it is perfectly preserved and reflected. But for other colours of light, these small differences in distance interfere, causing the colours to cancel out. So while white light is composed of

all colours, only blue light is reflected back. his type of coloration is known as structural coloration, and although it resembles a gem in hue, a sea sapphire’s colour has more in common with oil sheen than a pigmented jewel. Combine this nifty trick with the sea sapphire’s impressively transparent body, and you have an animal as radiant as a star in one moment, and invisible in the next. This sparkle is only seen in males, as they live free in the water column, however females settle in salps, or barrel shaped jellies. It is believed that males use their shimmer to compete with one another, while their princesses watch on.

SYLVIA
SHAW Early Life
Judson
Sylvia Shaw Judson was the second of three daughters of Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw, and poet Frances Wells Shaw. Encouraged by her father and by the example of her paternal grandmother, painter Sarah Van Doren Shaw, Sylvia Shaw studied art and became a sculptor. Sylvia Shaw studied at the Art Institute of Chicago with Albin Polacek, and in Paris with Bourdelle. Her sculpture ‘The Bird Girl’ became an iconic symbol of the city after the 1994 John Berendt novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil’ was published. Her work also included public commissions, such as a fountain at Chicago’s Brookfield Zoo and a 1950s statue of Quaker martyr Mary Dyer in front of the Massachusetts Statehouse on Boston Common. Garden sculpture was a popular elite medium in the early 20th C. during the vogue for formal gardens. Sylvia’s work, cast and in stone, reflected this often whimsical genre’s interest in children in the garden, small animals, and other representational garden subjects of the sort found at Brookgreen Gardens and earlier on many Lake forest area estates. Later her work became more simplified and even abstracted, in tune with major trends in her field, though her work often was conservatively accessible. She followed new expressions in European art. In subject matter her work reflected the Quaker values and pacifism she embraced by the 1940s, quietly commenting on events of her times. Thus, she has some useful, simple chicken lamp bases in use at her home Ragdale from the wartime period when they raised food at Ragdale. The unglazed ceramic chickens are looking down at he ground for grain to eat and recall the Bruegel painting of Icarus falling to the ground while a farmer plows his field, his eye on the ground. Finally, her Mary Dyer, a portrait of a woman martyred for her religious ideas in Puritan-ruled colonial Boston, and dating from the mid 1950s is a subtle commentary for tolerance in the era of MacCarthyism and blacklisting in a time of rabid anti-Communist hysteria. A smaller version too is at Quaker-related Earlham College, Richmond.
Interesting Facts ylvia began creating garden sculptures proS fessionally in the 1920s, using her daughter Alice as a model -- as her grandmother had
used her. ylvia wrote two significant books, ‘The Quiet Eye’ and ‘For Gardens and Other Places’ he won the Logan Prize in 1929 for her sculpture ‘Little Gardener’. n 1926, she was awarded an honorable mention at the Chicago Art Club. In 1948 she was elected into the National Academy of Design as an Associate member and became a full Academician in 1965.
