As many of us entrepreneurs know, success in this industry is not all rainbows and butterflies. There are many storms we face along the way. Choosing how to face those rainy days is the most pivotal decision you will ever make. My story is filled with more storms than I’d like to admit. In fact, when I was asked to sum up my experience in business, I wondered how I would possibly fit all the ups and downs into one page. “Rock bottom became the solid foundation in which I rebuilt my life” -J.K Rowling 2012 I was a high school graduate, no college education, zero background in retail or marketing, working an 8-5 job making $8/hr and living paycheck to paycheck.

I knew life had more to offer me and I decided to go after my lifelong dream after seeing a children’s boutique booming on Facebook. I didn’t have a dime to start so I revamped furniture and would hand deliver to buyers within an hour radius of my town. I made a Facebook page with the name The Lace Cactus and I will never forget those humble beginnings of spray painting in my garage for hours, driving from town to town, all to make a few hundred dollars a week. After I had saved enough money that hadn’t been spent on bills, I bought my first round of clothes. I learned the hard lessons of cash flow, preorders and setting aside for taxes. I was young and Google was my “how to do anything” handbook. By 2014 we were booming online. I hired my mother for shipping and my sister for customer service. 2014 was my first million dollar year and I was still running The Lace Cactus out of my home. I opened my first store front this year and by 2015 we launched our website. We were ranked 7th in the nation in 2015 for USPS output and opened our warehouse. Rainbows and butterflies.

Then came the storm. 2015 brought many hardships in my personal life. I wouldn’t feel the effects of my mental absence from The Lace Cactus until 2016. 2016 is the year that should have broke me. I had what I can only describe as an emptiness this year. The only way I knew how to fill that was to be bigger, more successful. I purchased a well known jewelry company Sookie Sookie, opened a second store front and bought a new car. All on loans. I was getting bigger and bigger but successful was far from the word to describe what I had become. My bank account got smaller and the bills stacked higher. I posted happy photos, inspiring quotes and flashed the “successes” of my business. But I was sinking fast behind closed doors. By July of 2016 I couldn’t afford to turn my home electricity on. The bank was calling, loans were past due and I was sitting on my kitchen floor hiding from the world. Literally sitting in the dark, wondering how I had ever let it get this bad. My warehouse was empty, my store fronts were closed and I had let go of my entire staff. It was me in my house with not a dime to my name like 2012 all over again. I felt so angry at myself. I didn’t create a real life Cinderella story all to have it crumble from poor decisions. So I got to work. I started in my storefront and sold every thing I could. I sold my personal clothes and belongings. I sold the jewelry company, my warehouse and the store front. I sold everything I could. I promised myself I would be successful again and I prayed for another chance

This time I wouldn’t take it for granted. I payed off every loan I had and wrote a four page letter begging them to give me a chance for a $10,000 loan to start over. I was approved!!! I bought smart and I cut back on every bill I had. I had a fresh start at life and at business. Slowly I hired back my staff and filled my storefront. I relaunched my website and filled my 800 square foot warehouse back up. I bought off brand everything, had no cable and poured every penny I made into growth for the business.

By 2017 we outgrew our warehouse. Four months later we outgrew that warehouse. By March of 2018 we moved for the fourth time into the largest vacant building in town. By 2019 I had triple my staff. I set them on what is called an incentive plan. A program based on growth of sales for monthly bonuses. If I win, they win. The biggest game changer of all was a happy staff. They became so goal driven that I was able to walk away for 6 weeks for brain surgery last year and our sales boomed. From 2016 to 2020 we have a 2159% sale increase. I was able to save enough money on the side to purchase my dream home and car with a check. I am debt free. I know to this day what it takes my business to run daily, weekly and yearly. I run my numbers constantly. I vowed to never lose control of those numbers and to always have my heart in this business

I no longer feel the need to dress up daily. I show up to work READY TO WORK. I no longer feel the need to gloat about my successes for recognition from the world. I am happy, confident and content. That has been the biggest change of all. From my garage spray painting furniture, to two consecutive years of loss on my taxes to now an 18 member staff and a projected revenue of $10 million for 2020. Rock bottom was the best thing to ever happen to me. When the rain comes and storm is rolling in, remember that you are about to learn some of the most valuable lessons of all during this time. The big question is how you choose to face the storm.

SASSY OKIE WHOLESALE IS A MOMMY AND ME WHOLESALER BASED IN YUKON, OK. OWNED AND OPERATED BY TWO FASHION LOVING MAMAS, WE SPECIALIZE IN BABY, TODDLER, KIDS, AND ADULT CLOTHING.

I was so into my live... the numbers were up... everyone was claiming and commenting.!!!! I did a little cat walk turn, ripped my toe nail off in the carpet, saw the blood, freaked out.... sprained my ankle! Then my entire back drop fell on me......... one son took me to the hospital, my other son finished my live. When I watched the replay I was horrified...as if that wasn’t all enough, the wrap dress that I was sporting, had came apart during all that.... so my entire bottom half was live..... to this day my entire community reminds me of this at least once a month đ&#x;˜đ&#x;˜‚đ&#x;˜ Positive, my son sold 3 pieces lol

EMBARRASSING STORIES

My very first live sale ever I knocked over my ring light/camera stand which in turn knocked over my glass of Prosecco and everyone witnessed it all go down in flames

I was in the middle of changes while live once and did something similar. I took my jeans off and threw on the next top. No big deal right? Well I was so excited I straight up walked out (unknowingly) in just my top and underwear. đ&#x;˜† SHOWED THE WHOLE TOP like I would with any other item not even noticing I was in just my underwear. I walked off camera to put the next thing on and literally yelled OH MY GOD I JUST FLASHED MY ASS TO YOU ALL.

“IN HER DEEP ANGUISH HANNAH PRAYED TO THE LORD, WEEPING BITTERLY.” - 1 SAMUEL 1:10 Have you ever wanted something so badly that your insides hurt?

Year after year, she kept the hope alive that one day she would be a mom.

Whether it is a relationship, a child, or a new level in your business, that dream is all you can think about day in and day out. And yet sometimes we reach a point where there isn’t anything else that we can do but pray.

And one day, God answered her prayer

Hannah in 1 Samuel 1 had struggled with infertility for years. She wanted to have a baby so badly. She was mocked and taunted that she couldn’t give her husband a child. In a the time when she lived, women who weren’t able to have children were thought to be cursed. Basically her entire identity was wrapped up around her failure to get pregnant. And yet Hannah never gave up hope. Every year when she would go to the temple to worship with her husband, Hannah would pour her heart out to God for a child.

What would have happened if Hannah had given up hope one year? Who knows if she would have been blessed with a child. Perseverance is everything if you’re going to get the things that you want in life. Don’t give up today just because things are hard. Don’t give up tomorrow just because you don’t have what you want yet.

KEEP BELIEVING. KEEP THE HOPE ALIVE.
