110 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE!

The traditional values that Florimont instils in your children are as relevant today as they were when the Institute was founded in 1905. Our school offers a complete education from nursery to secondary school as well as three school-leaving diplomas that provide access to leading universities. The four sections of the school – nursery, primary, lower secondary and upper secondary – are designed to ensure a continuity of approach but they also enable us to welcome new pupils at all ages and all levels, including those joining us during the school year from public or private schools.

Values for life In keeping with the Institute’s tradition, Florimont encourages the values of respect for others, courtesy, a positive attitude and a commitment to community and charitable activities.

A CORE PROGRAMME AND A CHOICE OF THREE TRACKS At Florimont, pupils follow the same core programme from the age of 11 in the lower secondary school (after CM2 or 7th Harmos) in preparation for the three post-compulsory tracks (Swiss Maturité, French Baccalauréat and International Baccalaureate – IB). Great importance is traditionally placed on French language skills and pupils also follow a Swiss-French syllabus of advanced mathematics. English language skills are prioritised and the sciences are approached through practical work in the laboratory.

BECAUSE SUCCESS SPEAKS MANY LANGUAGES Florimont is a multilingual school. Bilingualism is an integral part of the teaching from the start of the lower secondary school, with five subjects taught in English. Pupils who reach the appropriate language level can move from the French track to the bilingual track. • English is taught intensively, with classes offered at different levels. As they progress, pupils are entered for appropriate external examinations such as the language tests offered by Trinity College London and Cambridge University. • German is taught from primary level and pupils are entered for a series of German language examinations in preparation for the Swiss Maturité. • Chinese, Spanish and Italian language classes and examinations are also available as options.

The French Baccalauréat, with its long history at Florimont, enjoys wide international recognition. It is an essential qualification for admission to a Prépa (preparatory programme) or a Grande Ecole (leading French tertiary institution). The programme is known for its rigorous approach, as demonstrated by our excellent results (89% pass overall and 100% for the ‘bac S’ – sciences stream).

SWISS MATURITÉ

Individual attention, guidance and support Our strong focus on student achievement is founded on: • close collaboration with parents • personal attention and guidance by the members of the teaching team • individual homework study plans

Ready for leading universities Our pupils are encouraged to be creative and to think outside the box, to take risks and develop an entrepreneurial spirit, qualities that will stand them in good stead at university and in their future careers.

The Maturité, in its French language or bilingual version, fully meets the requirements of Swiss higher education institutions such as the EPFL, the EPFZ (federal polytechnics), HSG (Haute Ecole de Saint Gall) and regional universities. The gymnasiale Maturité (referred to as ‘cantonale’ or regional) is based on continuous assessment and covers 14 subjects to encourage a broader approach as well as independent learning, in particular through the final assessed project.

The French or bilingual International Baccalaureate is taken and recognised internationally, especially in English-speaking countries, as befits today’s globalised world. The focus in the final two years of the programme on only six subjects allows pupils to acquire a more in-depth knowledge in those areas. The Creativity-Action-Service dimension encourages artistic pursuits and physical activities as well as community service.

A HANDS-ON APPROACH TO SCIENCE

FOCUS ON CULTURE, ARTS AND SPORTS

A REAL CAMPUS LIFE FROM THE START

Students who are considering applying to the Ecoles Polytechniques Fédérales are offered optional advanced classes. To develop the skills needed for modern scientific study, emphasis is placed on computerassisted experimentation and practical work in the laboratory.

Our partnerships with the major museums in Geneva highlight the importance of culture. We also regularly organise collaborations with wellknown artists. Our excellent sports facilities demonstrate the key role of sport at Florimont, as do our football teams and in particular our fencing club, which is a great source of pride.

Since 2007, the programme of building and redevelopment at Florimont has greatly changed the look of the campus, with the creation of a new multisport complex, a nursery school and a library and resource centre.

• Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) • Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) • Université de St Gall (HSG) • Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales de Genève (HEC Genève) • Université de Genève (UNIGE – different faculties) • Université Paris-Sorbonne • Sciences Po Paris • Lycée privé Sainte-Geneviève – pre-university preparatory classes • Ecole Supérieure d’Etudes Cinématographiques (ESEC) • Cambridge University • London School of Economics (LSE) • King’s College London • University of Warwick • University of Bath • Harvard University • Georgetown University • Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) • Columbia University

WHY FLORIMONT IS THE BEST CHOICE FOR MY CHILD: • for our values • for our success in preparing students for leading French, Swiss and international universities • for our high quality teaching, which combines established methods with current approaches (French language skills, bilingualism, advanced options) • for our close collaboration with parents and our individual attention to pupils
