Four Marketing & Business Computing students from The Institute of Technology Tallaght have each won an Apple iPad in a competition organised by Tallaght Fiat, Airton Road, Dublin. Michael Kerslake, dealer principal at Tallaght Fiat, tasked the Marketing and Business Computing students with creating an awareness-building campaign for the new dealership. Four teams then began developing their ideas (work which was also integrated into their studies) and four months later they presented their campaigns to a panel from Tallaght Fiat; Fiat Group Automobiles Ireland; the Institute of Technology Tallaght; marketing agency Imagine and the Institute of Advertising Practitioners Ireland. Details of the winning campaign are still under wraps but the winning team, comprised of third-year IT Tallaght students Katie Dunne, Alyson Ennis, Adrienne Murphy and Sinead Scollan, was invited to Tallaght Fiat to receive the Apple iPad prizes. Next stop for the team is a presentation at Agnelli House, Fiat Group Automobiles Ireland's Head Office, after which the students will be given the opportunity to help bring their campaign to life. The initiative has been so successful that both Tallaght Fiat and Fiat Group Automobiles Ireland plan to work with IT Tallaght again in 2012. Students benefit from the opportunity of working in a real business environment while Fiat gains access to a wealth of talent such as Gary Ryan, one of the students who was involved in the initial stages of the competition and who has since gone on to secure an internship with Fiat Group Automobiles Ireland.

Massaging babies is a tradition that exists in many cultures across the globe but is something that had been sadly neglected in the West. It was reintroduced by an American woman, Vimala McClure, who learned of infant massage while she worked in India during the 1970s. She saw mothers in even the most poverty-stricken areas giving their babies massage as part of their daily routine. This positive touch allowed the babies to experience tremendous love and a sense of security that is sometimes lacking in our society. Vimala returned to America and became a mother herself. She recalled the power of massage and designed a sequence of strokes specifically for babies. They were based on the strokes she had observed in India, with the addition of some Swedish massage, reflexology and yoga. She practised on her own children and saw how positively they responded to massage. It helped the babies to stay relaxed and happy as well as having physical benefits and Vimala found that it enhanced her communication with her children. The International Association of Infant Massage ( IAIM ) was founded by Vimala McClure in 1981, and has been instructing parents around the world for over 25 years . The Irish chapter Baby Massage Ireland ( BMI ) came into being in 2001 and today has a nationwide network of Certified Infant Massage Instructors ( CIMIs ). Moira Glennon has been running classes on baby massage for parents in the community room in Citywest Shopping Centre since November 2010. She is a mother of 3 and grandmother of 2, with another on the way. While running a marketing company for 15 years, she qualified 14

as a therapist in both Holistic and Hot Stone massage therapies and also received a diploma in Aromatherapy. When her grandchildren started to arrive, she decided to go for the qualification as a Certified Infant Massage Instructor (CIMI).

New classes start shortly. Further information can be found on www.facebook.com/ Moira.BabyMassageTutor

The marketing company wound down due to the economic climate and she decided to mainly concentrate on Baby Massage because of the joy these classes bring her. Moira says: “It is so wonderful to observe the babies because as I well discovered with my own sons and grandsons, the early stages with a new baby are so precious and fleeting. Taking a Baby Massage course can so enhance the connection and bonding with this new little person.

Call Moira On 087 254 9720 or visit their website at www.babymassageireland.com

Moira offers classes for parents and caregivers and the course fees are part refunded by some of the Health Insurance companies. Benefits of Baby Massage include improved baby sleep patterns, relief from wind and colic, increase in weight gain, and can help with post natal depression.

Meet Kelly Donegan, a local girl from Kilnamanagh who has reached the final of Miss Universe Ireland and could potentially represent Ireland on the International stage. We met with Kelly earlier in the month for an exlusive interview. Countinuing on with one of the InTallaght Magazine’s key objectives, that of supporting local success stories, we thought it would be great to highlight the rapid, early stage career progress of one of Tallaghts very own. We found out that Kelly is a Tallaght girl through and through, with no airs and graces about her. She is down to earth, with brains as well as beauty. Kelly describes how growing up with a skin condition challenged her self confidence and made her grateful for the position she now finds herself in and determined to make the most of what God has given her. This time last year Kelly was an ordinary girl just completing a three year graphic design course at Ballyfermot College with aspirations to set up her own graphic design company ‘Razberry Designs’. She has now put this on hold (fortunately for us, limiting our competition!) she helped support herself through college by doing promotional work for drinks brand Captain Morgan and won Miss Hotspots.ie. This gave her the confidence to apply via facebook for the Miss Universe Ireland contest. Should Kelly be successfull, her whirlwind journey will culminate with a fantastic trip to Brazil to represent Ireland in the forthcoming Miss Universe Finals. Follow Kelly’s inspirational story from the girl next door to a rising star in the Irish modeling scene with the world at her feet. Check out our exclusive interview with her ahead of the final as she demonstrates there is more to her than her looks! The Miss Universe Ireland Finals are being held at the Burlington Hotel Dublin on Friday June 10th. For more details on the event contact the Burlington Hotel direct on 01 6185600.

So Kelly, you’re a local girl, where about did you grow up? Where did you go to school etc? I grew up here in Tallaght in Kilnamanagh which I am very proud of. There’s a huge sense of community throughout Tallaght. The people are so friendly and chatty. I attended St Paul's School for girls in Greenhills. My favourite subjects were Art and Classical Studies. I also took part in Hockey and the School choir. What were you like as a little girl, what type of childhood did you have? You will be suprised to know that i wasn’t as confident and outgoing as I am today. I grew up with a skin condition called eczema which I found very difficult. Especially as a teenager, as it hugely affected my confidence. I couldn’t wear certain make up, perfume, tan or clothing which is pretty tough as a young lady. My eczema is now under contol and my confidence is at an all time high. I have realised that what’s on the inside is more important than what’s on the outside! You’re still at a good young age, only 22 with plenty of time left to achieve great things in your life, is there any achievement you’re particularly proud of so far? The biggest achievement in my life to date is taking part in the Miss Universe Ireland Competition. I am so thrilled to be part of something so special. It has opened so many doors to me already. I’m also proud to say that I hold a Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design and a FETAC award in Art, Graphics and Printmaking. Education is so important, especially in the Miss Universe Competition. There is a huge stereotype that Beauty Pageants are all about, good looks and bikini bodies but it couldnt be further from the truth. My next goal in life is to get a motorbike. 19

How did you get involved/interested in modelling? Is it a relatively new aspect of your life and what made you apply for Miss Universe? Modelling has been a lifelong ambition of mine. I have just been waiting for the right opportunity which is defenitely Miss Universe Ireland. I have always followed the Miss Universe and Miss World competitions, I would watch them every year so when I saw the advertising on Facebook to apply, I jumped at the chance. The final is being held in Brazil, that must be really exciting? What does going through to the final involve and what will you have to do? To win the competetion would be an absolute dream come true I have always wanted to visit Brazil. It is such a beautiful country. To get through to the final would mean being an Ambassador for Ireland. It would be the biggest honour to represent your country at the Miss Universe Competition in Brazil. There are several categories in the main competition, some being; Swim-wear, Evening Gown, Walk, Interview and many others. I know if I was to win and represent Ireland I would wear my sash with such pride. Being a local girl, all of us here at InTallaght are 100% with you all the way so if you win the Ultimate competition and become the next Miss Universe, how would you like to use your position to help people/ change the world, that kind of thing? I know I could change the world if I was to win Miss Universe. I have a really good work ehtic that I know I could apply to real problems. I feel really passionate about animal welfare and teenage suicide and depression, so they would be key issues I would focus on during my time as Miss Universe Ireland. A question for all the girls, I'm sure their all keen to find out about you 20

get to look as good as you do, what is your daily beauty routine? Any tips you can pass on? At home my beauty regime usually involves at least 8 hours of Sleep a night. Glasses and glasses of water and loads of Moisturiser i use Palmer's Cocoa Butter. Coming upto Shoots or events i get loads of help off Couture Beauty in Tallaght Village they do all my beauty treatments, Tan, french polish, facials, body polishes and the rest. The girls are amazing their , they always make sure im looking a hundred percent for everything. My number one tip is exercise everyday. It keeps your body in great shape and it also helps your skin look more radiant. Hopefully, you'll go all the way to be succsessfull in the grand final. What direction do you see your life taking if you win, or even if you don't? I know exciting adventures are on the cards for me but I dont like to over plan my future. I prefer seeing where the wind takes me, it’s way more exciting. Regardless of winning or losing, I still hope to pursue a successful modelling career here in Ireland and abroad. Finally Kelly, you've mentioned your life has been crazy these last few months, a quick question for you that I'm sure all the local lads are itching to ask, do you have time for a boyfriend at the moment or is that something you’re putting off till after the finals? I always have time for love ;)

Princess Beatrice's Royal Wedding hat sells for €94,000 on eBay The flamboyant mauve hat that perched atop Princess Beatrice's head during the royal wedding sold for just over €94,000 on eBay. The headpiece - which inspired comparisons to a pretzel, octopus and a toilet seat - was a creation of Irish designer Philip Treacy. Beatrice donated sale proceeds to the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, and the British charity Children in Crisis. Of the many fabulously dressed royals, celebs and schoolmates at the April 29 ceremony uniting Prince Wills and now-Duchess of Cambridge Kate, the oldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson stood out because of her towering accessory. "I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted," the 22-year-old princess said in a statement on the auction website. "It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities," she added. "I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have." Bidding started at £5,000, or about €5,850. The identity of the winner, who offered up £81,100.01, hasn't been revealed. The splashy tea rose silk hat-technically a fascinatoreven inspired its own Facebook page, "Princess Beatrice's ridiculous royal wedding hat." It currently has a following of more than 143,000 fans.

CBS Confirms Ashton Kutcher Will Join 'Two and a Half Men' Ashton Kutcher has won the "Two and a Half Men" sweepstakes. CBS and Warner Bros. InTallaght magazine welcome back A&J Ltd., to bring you their monthly make up feature. This month, they highlight the importance of eyebrows, giving us invaluable tips for shaping and styling to make sure our brows are in tip top condition for summer! ............................................................................................................

Manicured eyebrows create a clean, definitive frame for the eyes and can make a dramatic difference in your look and overall expression.

Shaping Tips 1.

The space between eyebrows should be the same or smaller than the width of your eye.

2.

To find your optimal brow length, hold a pencil from your nostril to the outside edge of your eye. The point that the pencil touches your brow is your perfect length.

3.

To find the highest part of the arch hold the pencil parallel to the outside edge of the iris. The first three quarters of the brow should head upward and the final quarter should head downward.

...................................................................................................

............................................................................................................

4.

I always suggest drawing in your perfect shape before plucking as it gives you a better guide to pluck around, this way you’re not going to make mistakes as easily.

5.

I would suggest drawing a line using an eyebrow pencil or eye shadow, a shade lighter than your brow hair colour to create a shadow, to define or fill in areas where the hair is sparse.

6.

To keep brows in place, sparingly comb on eyebrow gel (hair gel works as well) and smooth with an eyebrow brush.

Recipes Adapted by Kristin Jensen Summer is barbeque season. Spicy Slaw is a fresh Asian twist on traditional coleslaw and the Lemon Pepper Salad Dressing will perk up any leafy or bean salad. Perfect for serving with any barbeque.

Spicy Slaw adapted from Holiday by Bill Granger Serves 8 I left out the thinly sliced red onion called for in the original because I don’t personally care for raw onion, but by all means add it back in if you want to. The original recipe doesn’t call for basil either, but I had half a bunch in my fridge and wanted to use it up. You could use any combination of these herbs that you like or have to hand.

for the salad: 4 celery stalks, thinly sliced 2 large carrots, grated 2 large handfuls grated white cabbage 2 large handfuls grated red cabbage 1 large handful mint leaves, roughly chopped 1 large handful basil leaves, roughly chopped 1 large handful coriander leaves, roughly chopped

for the sweet chili dressing: 1 or 2 red chilies, deseeded and finely chopped 2 tablespoons lime juice 2 tablespoons fish sauce 1 tablespoon rice vinegar or white wine vinegar 1 tablespoon sugar

Toss all the salad ingredients together in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, mix all the dressing ingredients together, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Add the dressing to the salad and toss together. Serve immediately.

Lemon Pepper Salad Dressing adapted from How to Cook Book Two by Delia Smith

for the dressing 2 cloves garlic, peeled 2 teaspoons Maldon sea salt 1 heaped teaspoon mustard powder, such as Colman’s 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil zest and juice of 1 large lemon (3 tablespoons juice) To make the dressing, first crush the garlic and salt using a pestle and mortar until the garlic is pulverized into a paste, then work in the mustard powder and pepper. If you have a large pestle and mortar, add the olive oil, lemon zest and juice directly into it and whisk everything together thoroughly. If your pestle and mortar is small (like mine), then scrape the garlic paste into a larger bowl and whisk in the olive oil, lemon zest and juice in that. See Kristin's blog, Dinner du Jour, at www.dinnerdujour.org for more great recipes.

Misfortune can strike when we least expect it. It is unfortunate, but there is a reasonable chance that in the course of our lives we may suffer personal injuries as a result of being involved in an accident caused by another. Despite the fact that great strides have been made in road safety in Ireland over the last number of years, the fact of the matter remains that road traffic accidents are still the cause of a large number of personal injury claims each year. If you have been involved in a road traffic accident, and have suffered an injury, you may be entitled to claim for compensation. In addition, to compensation for personal injuries, you may also be entitled to claim for damage to your vehicle, loss of earnings, hospital and doctor’s fees, and any other reasonable expenses incurred following an accident. It is very important that the Gardai are called to the scene of a road traffic accident and that both parties exchange details, such as addresses, contact details and, most importantly, insurance policy details (which should be displayed on a current insurance disc on each vehicle), if at all possible, the vehicles should not be moved until such time as the Gardai arrive. You should also put the camera on your mobile phone to use and take photographs of the positioning of the vehicles and the general location of where the accident itself occurred. Such photographs may be vital in a future Court hearing. Failure to report a road traffic accident to

01 30

The Fiat 500 sets the standard for style in the city car class. It uses the same mechanicals as the Fiat Panda, but adds a huge dose of retro Italian style. The 500 feels luxurious too, thanks to customisable seat trims and equipment like air-conditioning and an MP3-compatible stereo. The 500 is available as a supermini hatchback, or as the 500C convertible. Retro looks are just part of the 500's appeal. It's very easy to drive, with incredibly light steering. It is perfect for driving around town, while the larger 1.4 petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines are more than capable of sustaining motorway cruising speeds. Standard equipment on the entry-level Pop models is quite basic, but the Sport and Lounge versions add extras like Bluetooth phone connectivity, air-conditioning and 15inch alloy wheels. Room for those in

the front is plentiful, but don't expect much space in the back - or a big boot. The 500C isn't really a true convertible, as it's only the centre section of the roof that folds back - think of it more as a car with a big fabric sunroof. It has the same retro looks and engine line-up as the hatchback, and the driving experience is virtually identical, so the appeal is still strong.

Prices for the 500 start from €12.695 with the 500C prices staring from €16,195. .....................................................

The Ford Ka is spacious and practicality is impressive, the boot is decently sized and the rear seats fold to give you access to even more space.

The original Ford Ka was much loved for its cute looks, funky interior and entertaining handling. This secondgeneration model feels no more less fun. It shares many of its mechanical parts with the Fiat 500: in fact, they’re built in the same factory. There are two engines, one petrol and one diesel, while a wide range of trim 36

levels offers plenty of scope for personalisation – including some crazy looking stickers. The Ford Ka's smooth ride helps make light work of rough city streets, and the high driving position provides a good view of the road ahead. The front seats are comfortable and make it an enjoyable place to be.

The Ka has a choice of economical, low emission engines, with road tax starting from €104. Prices start from €11.115 for the petrol varient and from €12,900 for the TDCi Diesel. .....................................................

Shamrock Rovers have cemented their status as champions by securing the 2011 Setanta Sports Cup.

A 0-0 draw with St Patrick’s Athletic then followed, before the Setanta Sports Cup win over Dundalk.

The Hoops beat Dundalk 2-0 in the final, which was played at Tallaght Stadium on Saturday, May 14.

The month finished with conflicting results, as the Hoops beat Drogheda 3-0 at Tallaght Stadium, with Gary Twigg returning from injury to net two.

It was the first time that Rovers had qualified for the all-Ireland competition, which sees teams from the North’s Irish League battle it out with Airtricity League sides. Rovers had previously seen off Lisburn Distillery and Sligo Rovers in the competition before facing Dundalk in the final.

But that was followed by a 1-0 away defeat to Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds. However, the Hoops remain on top of the league, and will be looking to bounce back in June. .......................................................

Gary O’Neill got the first for the Hoops in the final – his first goal for the side – while Billy Dennehy made it 2-0 just before the final whistle.

Apart from the Setanta Sports Cup win, May was a bit of a mixed month for the Hoops in the Airtricity League. Rovers secured wins over Sligo Rovers and Drogheda, but had to settle for draws against Dundalk and St Patrick’s Athletic, while a defeat was inflicted by Bray Wanderers.

The Hoops drew 1-1 away to Dundalk at the start of the month, and followed that up with a 1-0 home win against Sligo Rovers on May 6.

A very stylish and clever central midfield player whose arrival at Tallaght in February 2011 came as an unexpected boost to Michael O’Neill’s squad. The shock and sudden demise of Sporting Fingal FC meant that Ronan was left without a club just as the 2011 season was about to begin but he was offered terms by the Hoops without delay and didn’t hesitate in signing up. From Artane, he began his Schoolboy football with local side Artane Beaumont at 7 years of age. He joined UCD on a scholarship and graduated with a degree in Sports Management. He made his Hoops’ debut in a friendly against Waterford one week before the season began.
