Hi Everyone, Welcome to the first edition of InTallaght Magazine for July. This month we have a fun-filled issue for you. One that's sure to get you giggling with interviews from two popular comedians - Tallaght's Paul Tylack and Kildare's Jarlath Regan. Paul recently supported Ardal O'Hanlon in The Civic Theatre where he proved popular with the local crowd and he speaks to us about his upcoming gig in The Iveagh Gardens. The dad of two has forged a successful career as an actor, comedian and voiceover artist and tells us about the highlights of his journey so far. Increasingly-popular Jarlath, who is also playing the Iveagh Gardens at the end of the month takes us though the career he says he 'sucked at' in the beginning but has proved immensely successful at nonetheless. With hugely successful books and greetings card collections to his credit Jarlath has made several bouts of TV appearances both here and the UK and is a man who is on the up and up. In other news we bring you all the photos from Gay Byrne's appearance in the Newbridge store in The Square recently as well as let you in on the fact that we have just joined forces with the centre and are now the official magazine of The Square. This means that each month there will be an eight-page supplement dedicated to the centre in the second issue. We are thrilled with the new development and are very much looking forward to bringing you all the news and views direct from those at the head of it, as it happens. All this and the reviews and previews you know and love. Enjoy, and until next time, happy reading!

Gay Officially Opens Newbridge Store With Beautiful Rose Tara HUNDREDS of excited customers turned out to the official opening of the Newbridge store in The Square shopping centre where TV legend Gay Byrne was on hand to cut the ribbon recently. The shop, which has been operating on Level 3 since last March played host to Mr Byrne and the current Rose of Tralee,Tara Talbot who were on hand to greet visitors to the store and sign autographs throughout the afternoon. Proprietor Darren Walsh told InTallaght:“It was absolutely fantastic – the day went by in a blur!” “Everyone got to see Gay and there was a real sense that you were in the presence of a celebrity. So many people said to me that they never thought they would see the day that Gay Byrne would be visiting The Square.” “They reckon there was at least 1,000 signatures on the day,” he added. The afternoon was kicked off with the cutting of the ribbon while a piano player set the mood from his station right across from the store. Hundreds of people queued up throughout the event for both Gay and Tara to sign autographs and have a quick chat. While in the queue and afterwards they were treated to champagne and all kinds of fantastic finger food.

Additionally all those in attendance on the day were entered into a draw where there were five winners of vouchers up to €100 while anyone who spent any amount of money at the event received a €5 voucher to be used at a later date on a purchase of €40 or more up to July 27th. Darren added:“It was definitely well worth doing it.We were thrilled with the response and are very positive about the future.”

King Of The Mayoral Throne THERE were celebrations in Tallaght recently when the newest Mayor of South Dublin County was voted in on Friday, June 29. Sinn Fein’s Cathal King was instated at the ceremony as the county also waved goodbye to popular outgoing Mayor, Labour’s Caitriona Jones. Cllr King was proposed by Cllr Maire Devine (Sinn Fein) who was seconded by Cllr Eamon Tuffy (Labour) while Cllr Guss O’ Connell (Independent) was elected Deputy Mayor after being proposed by Cllr Caitríona Jones (Labour) who was then seconded by Cllr Matthew Mc Donagh (Sinn Fein). In his acceptance speech Mayor King said that it was with great pride and pleasure that he takes on his new responsibility.

He said:“Firstly I intend to use the office of Mayor to highlight the issue of Mental Health by facilitating a gathering of interested groups and individuals to develop a strategy to promote mental health and well being for all age groups in South Dublin County.” The Mayor also wishes to continue the council’s strategy to promote enterprise and employment. He added: “I look forward to working with the County Manager and staff to progress the innovative Sustaining and Developing Business Initiative in collaboration with our partner agencies at local and national level. “This initiative has been very well received by the business community here in the county and I look forward to engaging more in this work as Mayor and having a proactive input into the development of pro-business strategies.” Among his priorities for the year in office are a greater focus on housing issues,in particular the private rented sector and the delivery of the emergency homeless accommodation

project for the county. Jarlath Regan is not you’re average comedian. He doesn’t speak at the speed of light, he doesn’t try to make you laugh every two minutes and he doesn’t send you nice Christmas cards. He is simply well-spoken, you can’t help but giggle and he’s not on your Christmas card list either – so neither of you really care. Editor, Emer Mulvaney spoke to Jarlath ahead of his stint in the Iveagh Gardens this month and found herself warm to the cheeky chappy instantly...

So let’s start at the beginning – you’ve been doing comedy for less than 10 years – what kicked it all off?

I suppose a lot of people start off in the International bar but I probably didn’t start there. I was unusual. I was kinda doing it in college – like getting up in front of people and making funny speeches. If I had a presentation I’d write it for the marks but I’d also write it for the laughs. It felt more powerful that way. I never really thought of it [comedy] as a job though or something you could do. I thought it was for the likes of Billy Connolly and Eddie Murphy but as soon as I left college I missed it..

By 2004 you’d made finalist in three major UK comedy awards – that was a huge achievement so early on!

Yeah by that stage I was gigging around town in two-minute spots – trying to win full-paid spots – and I entered a few competitions. Suddenly I was in Edinburgh and i tjust took off from there. At the time I was still in a ‘proper job,’ in the accountancy sector of a graphic design firm meeting clients and pretending to have a clue what I was doing - but then the company hit the rocks. My initial reaction was to get another job but then my wife convinced me to give it [comedy] a proper go. It’s what I had wanted to do for so long so I did and suddenly there I was on the circuit with guys who were my heroes.

Tell me about your first gig. So was that intimidating or how did you work it? Well I suppose it was in Toronto [college days] at the World Debating Championships after we had won a trip there. We were doing horribly – I mean dying on our hole – and then one night it was comedy night. I had seven minutes and a certain amount of jokes and I just went for it. In hindsight I was pure shite but I was so excited and so determined. That’s one thing you definitely need starting out – determination. Everybody sucks in the beginning, whether you realise it or not – but it gets better!

No they were absolutely great. I was lucky enough to be signed by the same agent as David O’Doherty which gave me lots of opportunities, especially in that first year when I got a lot of advice. Ardal O’Hanlon was another one who was really great, he was always asking what he could do to help which was amazing.

16

Nobody knows Jarlath Regan brought you face to face with even more of your comedy heroes – what was that like?

Yes TV3 asked me to do that show. It was a mockumentary where I pretended to be my own agent in Edinburgh and blag my way into as many gigs as possible. I just completely got the bug. Edinburgh is like comedy bootcamp. It’s the most inspiring, soul destroying and amazing place all at the one time!

and Adam Sandler do you get startsruck?

I was doing a pilot for a TV show and they told me I was going to be interviewing a couple of people. I said that was grand but when I went in there was Chris Rock,Kevin James, David Spade and Adam Sandler. In a funny way I thought I’d be starstruck by the likes of these guys but they were just guys like us – guys like us but with a lot more money but nice genuine lads! In fairness you never see people who are pr**ks make it to the top. These were no exception. So, no I don’t get starstruck, you just end up realising that everyone’s just a person trying to do their best – that said if I met Steve Martin I’d probably lose it!

You’ve done quite a This is your seventh bit of TV now, published two books year back to and produce your Edinburgh now – own infamous is there pressure to be even funnier the greeting cards – next year, each time? which element of your career do you prefer? In a weird kind of way some people think it’s a lot more pressure but unlike most other jobs you get better. There are a lot of similarities between standup and sport only in sport you are generally spent at 32.If you’re doing the right things you should have plenty more time left in comedy at that stage. You don’t feel the pressure to be funnier though you just know that the audience paid to see you therefore you owe them a good show.

Stand up I adore with all of my heart. I would do it for free if I had to.The cards and the TV come from the stand up. They keep it fresh but I like a lot of things. I love cartoons and I love sketches but stand up is the pure form where nobody is going to tell you what to do.

When supporting are How do you prepare you/can you be influ- a show? enced by the material of the main act? In the club environment , like when you are playing the likes of the International bar, you have to be there the whole night because if the person on before you talks to someone in the front row you don’t want to be asking them all over again what their name is etc – no one will want to hear it.In a weird way it’s observational comedy. In terms of stuff I write though no, what influences you is how hard other people work. There’s a whole mentality – if he’s working hard I have to work harder.

You’ve said you met a lot of your comedy heroes along the way, these include meeting Chris Rock

Well if it’s the day of the show you get yourself together, plan what you’re going to say and prepare your set in general. The longer, overaching, process is really whittling away at a desk, going into little clubs and trying your stuff out on stage bit by bit and gradually building your show.

Do you run material by your wife before taking it on stage?

My wife [Tina] is amazing that way. I do say a lot of stuff about her, and us, on stage but her attitude is that that’s what I do and she signed up for this. I’m blessed to have her. Anyone who believes that all of what you say on stage is true anyway hasn’t a clue. I do talk about some of the most painful stuff in a relationship like men being a pain in the arse and women being a pain in the arse and the fact we can’t agree on it! And we do annoy each other but we need each other too.

17

18

How do you handle hecklers?

I actually rarely get heckled. I find that if you take the piss out of yourself enough you’ve beaten them to it.Really if someone heckles you and says that they don’t think that you’re funny but everyone else in the audience is laughing then the heckler is the one who looks stupid.

Is drink to blame for most of the heckling?

Drink plays a part in it but most of the time all you have to do is explain that nobody wants to hear what they have to say then it suddenly dawns on them and you can see it happening. I don’t really drink myself anymore because there is too much drink in comedy to be healthy!

What’s the most embarrassing things that’s every happened to you on stage?

I’ve had so many embarrassing things happen to me on stage it’s ridiculous.I work with a projector a lot and I’ve had one explode, I’ve fallen, I’ve walked on stage with my fly down, I’ve spilled water all over me on stage,I’ve slagged off Jeremy Paxman and run into him after the show when he was in the audience all along! It’s part and parcel of the job and more often than not the humiliation ends up being a story for another night.

What’s been the highlight of your career so far?

The thing that makes me most proud is just making a life for myself, my kid and my wife out of making people laugh. That’s what makes me proudest. There is no greater achievement. Making a living out of shit that I make up!

Tell me about the Iveagh gardens gig – what can people expect from the show?

For me it will be a mixture of humiliating stories from throughput the year and I’ll be hosting one of the shows too.The setting is magical and I reckon that people should go even if they’ve seen the shows before because this is the gig, just ahead of Edinburgh, where everyone is at their peak.

Who will you go to see yourself?

The person I am most excited about is Tim Key who plays a character who is a shit poet and he creates the worst best poetry you have ever seen. I am also on with David O’Doherty so I am excited about that.

What are you up to over the next few months and where can people find you – you’re website says “oops I haven’t updated!” are you going on holiday after Edinburgh?’

[Laughs] I know I’m very bad! No, the weird thing about my stage career at the moment is that I don’t take holidays. You just have to keep going. After Edinburgh I have lots of dates in the UK, I am also working on a TV project and will have a new book out in 2013. Jarleth’s comedy quiz show returns to the Sugar Club from September. In the meantime he will be performing at the Vodafone Comedy Festival from this July 26 – 29. For more information log onto www.vodafonecomedy.com

20

I tend to do a lot of parts as the “Granny” or as the “Dad” or both at the same time, which is good fun!

What has been the high point of your career?

Working on STEW, writing and doing that was very rewarding and winning an IFTA award for it is a high point in my career. Also getting a pilot off the BBC (Be More Ethnic).

And the low points? Funnyman Paul Tylak is an awardwinning comedian who has excelled in everything from stand up, to writing, acting, voice over and improv in a career that’s spanned just over twenty years. Beginning his career in the early 90s fans may recognise Paul from TV shows including Father Ted and STEW –a show which he both wrote and acted in and which won him an IFTA along the way.He has also toured the International comedy festival circuit as a stand up and is one of Europe’s most sought after voice over artists, appearing in a number of animated movies including the Academy Award-nominated The Secret of Kells. Fresh from supporting Ardal O’Hanlon on tour Paul took time out of his busy schedule to speak with InTallaght magazine about playing animated Grannies among other things...

So whereabouts in Tallaght do you live?

I live in Firhouse,I’ve been living here for the last six years. I live with my wife Ailicia, the most amazing woman in the world, and our two sons Cal (10) and Reuben (8) who are my greatest critics and don’t hold back on telling me if they think anything I’ve done is crap!

When you were young who were your favorite comedians?

I loved Woody Allen, from his books to his early movies, also Steve Martin, though not mad about his stand up, Robin Williams, Billy Connolly, Monthy Python and Spike Milligan.

Working on Noel’s House Party for half a season! I would like to think I played a part in its demise!

Any funny stories from your career so far?

That would also be to do with Noel’s House Party! On one of the shows I was dressed up as a cuckoo/chicken and I was supposed to come flying through a clock while suspended 50 ft up in the air in a harness at the very end of the show. Anyway, the sketch was pulled at the last minute after I’d been put in the harness but whatever happened they forgot to take me down off the harness. So I was left hanging there in this harness 50 ft in the air, all on my own in the studio, while everyone else fecked off to the pub. Eventually a porter found me…

Any advice for aspiring comics?

Get as much stage time as you can and take every gig you can get. Also record your gigs and listen back to them as you can really notice what works and what needs to be dropped.

What current comedians do you like?

Sean Lock, Phil Kay, Chris Rock. I also like Michael McIntyre, I know a lot of people don’t like him but I do. This might be influenced by the fact that I introduced him in Kilkenny a few years ago, before he got famous, and got chatting to him, he was a very nice person. I like his energy on stage, the way he bounces around.

When did you decide to be a comedian? You’ve done stand up, acting, writing and voice over, which If you could work with anyone in the world of these is your who would it be? favourite? Only in the last year of school, on the very last day I did an impression of one of the teachers, which everyone thought was great. I got a great buzz from that, but I wasn’t the class clown in school or anything.I wanted to be in a band or do something which involved travelling.

Probably doing the voice overs for animated films because I get to do different characters in the same film.

Larry David because of the way he writes and does improv. His interaction with the audience is amazing. He

In 2001 you played a refugee in Fair City If you weren’t a and were vocal in comedian what support for would you like to do? your refugees coming to this country.Your father is also Have you been watching Euro 2012? Sri Lankan, how do you think attitudes towards immigrants have changed in What did you think 2012? of Roy Keane’s comments? actually spends longer writing the script for Curb Your Enthusiasm than he did for Seinfeld.

I’m very interested in Physics and would like to do research into dark matter, black holes and Nano technology.

Yes, all the matches, I think we did well to just get there, it was such a tough group that it would have been unbelievable to have got to the quarter finals. It might mean we have to now bring in more young players, play a bit more attacking. I think Trap needs to go as well.

He was very disrespectful, those lads had tried their best. He’s like an old lunatic granny at pro wrestling sticking his knitting needles into the wrestlers because they believe it’s all real.He should just shut up, he should have no say after walking out on his country. It’s like he shat on his own doorstep and doesn’t like the smell!

Well we’re a lot further down the road now than we were back then so it’s a bit more tolerant, there’s more exposure to different cultures now, which is great. You might still get the odd idiot shouting something at someone on the street but if that person is just after arriving from a country where they may have witnessed genocide then some idiotic taunt would be water off a ducks back to them I’d imagine.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’ve just finished work on two animated movies Thor and Niko 2 and was on tour with Ardal (O’Hanlon) which was brilliant.I’m also working on a script at the moment with Joe Rooney and Paul Woodfall (co-writer on STEW) about an old boy band getting back together.I’m also involved with the Improv Comedy Night in The International every Monday night which I love. You have a lot more freedom with improv and the audiences have a good laugh - you should come down and check it out!

An exciting partnership, between InTallaght Magazine and The Square Shopping Centre will be announced at an official launch on Thursday, July 19. The event, which will celebrate the pairing up of the two home-grown companies will see our magazine, which is consistently growing in popularity, become the official publication of The Square.

By contrast The Square has been in operation for 21 years and is home to 160 retailers offering everything from the latest fashion to quality food and entertainment.

As such the centre will be branded throughout upcoming editions on certain pages and in the second edition of each month a special eight-page supplement, featuring all the fantastic events which are regularly taking place in The Square, will be incorporated.

Just this year it welcomed the IMC Cinema filling the gap which had been left behind by UCI some time ago and the progression, we are assured, is not about to stop there.

Editor of InTallaght, Emer Mulvaney said:“Over the past few months many positive and proactive changes have been made throughout The Square. For years it has been the very lifeblood of Tallaght but like everywhere else, went through its own difficulties within the recession. “It is clear to see, however, that the introduction of the new Director of Retail Jack Martin has had a very positive effect. Injecting much-needed revival and confidence back into The Square and as such we have every confidence that our partnership with the pinnacle of Tallaght will be a very long and vibrant one.” Genesis Media, which has been in operation for two years, first started when it began producing The Tallaght Directory in 2010. In answer to the very encouraging feedback to the Directory and requests from the general public for a positive publication for the area, InTallaght was born in March 2011. Today the company employs eight people and is expanding all the time, not just locally but into the production of national magazines including Dance Magazine – Ireland’s premier publication for all genres of Dance.

Commercial Manager Cathryn McMenamy told InTallaght: “We are making improvements every day and the increase in footfall is testament to the positive reaction we are getting. “We are all very excited by our partnership with InTallaght Magazine which is young and fresh but above all positive.Positivity, community and partnership is what we are all about so we too are very confident that this is the right move for us, for InTallaght but even more than that, for our customers.” The celebration event will take place on Thursday, July 19, when refreshments will be served and all will be welcome. For updates and details keep an eye on the InTallaght and The Square Facebooks.

The Dark Knight Rises is the latest installment in the Dark Knight storyline and is intended to be the conclusion of the series. Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman return to their roles from Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. The film takes place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight and introduces the characters of Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) and Bane (Tom Hardy).

crimes to protect his reputation and is subsequently hunted by the Gotham City Police Department.Eight years after the events Batman returns to Gotham, where he encounters the mysterious Selina Kyle and the villainous Bane, and must confront the latter's plans to destroy the city.

Tom Hardy, seems to be the‘IT BRIT’actor at the moment and rightly so, having turned in some great performances in Bronson,Warrior and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,to name a few. Hardy stated his intention to portray the character as "more menacing" than Robert Swenson's version of him in Joel Schumacher's Batman & Robin, and gained 14 kg of muscle for the role.

Movie goers are set for a treat as the previous two installments of Batman have been brilliant. It will definately be my first pick out of the Superhero movies going to be released up to the back end of 2012.

Anne Hathaway, who plays Selina Kyle aka Cat Woman has been reported as saying that this role was her most physically demanding to date, especially fitting into the character's signature leather costume. "It was a psychological terrorist, the suit, thoughts of my suit, changing my life so I would fit into that suit... It dominated my year," she said.

“21 Jump Street”the movie is based on the 1980s TV series of the same name where the original run starred then rookie actor Johnny Depp. The movie which stars, Jonah Hill (who also co-wrote the script) and Channing Tatum, is said to be hilarious, with plenty of funny one liners and some comical scenes. The two characters, Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum), originally knew each other from high school but they didnt socialise together being on the opposite ends of the popularity spectrum, where Schmidt (Hill) was an unpopular geeky nerd and Jenko (Tatum) a well-liked jock. The premise of the movie is the two, now cops, get assigned to a local high school to go undercover as students to try and uncover the source of a new drug which is being circulated - mainly by quirky student, Eric (Dave Franco). The rest of the movie follows the two cops clumsily trying to make their way through the drug ring, while at the same time trying to keep there identities secret. Make way for plenty of crude jokes and hilarious situations.

Hill, looking totally different from his Superbad days, is said to have retained plenty of his comic wit and timing.Tatum on the other hand, is reported as being a total surprise. He’s new to the comedy genre but has an ability to create humor in his thick and goofy manner. A nice touch in the movie are the small cameo apperances from Johnny Depp, Holly Robinson and Peter Deluise – who all starred in the original TV series – despite the fact that it will more than likely will be lost on most of the younger audience members with them being too young to remember. There’s just no denying the fact that the phrase ‘catchy tune’ was made for a band like Maroon 5 – which has built a reputation on releasing such. The band’s latest single is no different. Payphone is a quirky record in that it’s maudlin but with a pacey beat. The song is about a guy who is looking back on the relationship he once had and accepting the fact that ‘even the sun sets in paradise.‘ He’s obviously been left high and dry and is bitter to say the least but in a comical twist the lyrics and the music send out different vibes. For example if you were to take away lines like“All those fairytales are full of sh*t, one more f*cking love song I’ll be sick” and listened to the music alone you would no doubt be tapping your foot and thinking about getting

up and out of your seat. Throw the lyrics back into the mix, however, and you’re unsure if that foot tapping is nothing more than dancing on the grave of this poor guy’s relationship. Then you realise you don’t really care because if it is,hasn’t he brought it on himself by sending out mixed musical signals. The feature by rapper Wiz Khalifa is a cool twist to a song which will remain on everyone’s lips this summer.

Elon Musk recently spoke about the superior performance, groundbreaking technology and unparalleled safety of his electric Tesla Model S. A $49,900 four-door saloon due out this month he seemed genuinely excited to share the finer points of the car–especially an elegant touchscreen console the size of an iPad. “The guy who did the screen for the iPad touch was in charge of this screen–we recruited him out of Apple,” Musk says.“He wanted to be part of something that was really changing the world in a positive way. Apple makes great consumer devices, but it’s not saving the world, you know.We feel a little bit like we’re saving the world by bringing electric cars out.” It’s a sentiment integral to the philosophy of the Palo Alto, California-based company. Musk believes that cars should work as seamlessly in life - and require about as much maintenance -as a laptop or a cell phone. They should also be just as accessible too. Tesla has sold out of all 5,000 Model S units planned for next year, with a waiting list 1,500 people deep but Musk says he’ll produce 20,000 a year by 2013.Most of the initial buyers are Californians, with a 50/50 split between men and women. Only 10 per cent own the $109,000 Tesla Roadster–the rest are newcomers. “Most have never bought an electric car or a hybrid,” Musk said. “That’s good because you want people to buy the car because it is the best car.You don’t want them saying, I’m going to accept something else because it’s electric. You want them saying,To hell with that. I want the best car!”

Model S will appeal to BMW 5-Series and Porsche Panamera owners who,Musk says, want something that handles better and drives faster than the standard luxury sedan. But he doesn’t hesitate to add that competitors will also include the similarlooking $200,000 Aston Martin Rapide and $128,000 Maserati Quattroporte. With a 300-mile-range lithium ion battery and a claimed 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds, the Model S will beat them both on the road. “From a performance standpoint we did consciously intend to beat them,” Musk says. “This is intended to be the best performance sedan out there.” The jury’s still out on just how well the Model S handles—Musk declined to allow test drives to the media until they have a

press-ready version in a few months. However,we can tell you that it’s a smoothdriving, quick, roomy saloon, with a fantastic sound system and what is likely the largest panoramic sunroof available in any production vehicle. Elon Musk is a South Africa-born American entrepreneur and inventor best known for co-founding Tesla Motors, SpaceX and Paypal. While at those companies Musk created the first viable electric car of the modern era, the Tesla Roadster, a private rocket and spaceship successor to the Space Shuttle known as Falcon 9/Dragon,and the world's largest Internet payment system, PayPal. He is currently the CEO and Chief Designer of SpaceX, CEO and Product Architect of Tesla Motors and Chairman of SolarCity.

Treyarch, who last brought us Call of Duty Black Ops, have decided to go a different route with Black Ops 2. The single player part of the game will be set in two different time periods. One half is in the 1970s and one half in the 1980s, while the other will be set in 2025.

Alex Mason, the protagonist from Black Ops, will return for the Cold War era proxy wars, while in the future setting will be Alex's son, David Mason. Known areas that Alex will be fighting in are Central America and the parts of Afghanistan invaded by the Soviets during the Cold War. #Spoiler# Alex's friend from Black Ops, Frank Woods, who we thought to be dead, returns to narrate the games story into the 2025 setting. #End Spoiler# In the future setting of the game, the world is in a new Cold War. It's a stand-off between China and America. China has banned the export of rare earth elements, following a cyberattack on the Chinese Stock exchange which cripples them.

In a world where war is fought behind a computer monitor using cyber warfare, unmanned drones and robotics instead of in the field, a hacking attack on America’s drones have caused them to go rogue. The person behind the cyber-attacks on both nations is Raul Menendez, who wants both nations to have a full scale war with each other. It's not yet known why Menendez wants a war but he is doing his very best to get one. After taking over all of America’s drones he sends half of them to Shanghai in China, and the other half to attack cities around the US. In the first mission we're shown, you start as David Mason who is trying to defend the president as they are under attack from these rogue drones. The real beauty of Black Ops 2 is not that it's the first Call of Duty game set in the future but that is has branching storylines and multiple endings to the game. These branching storylines are done through 'Strike Force Missions',where your choice affects how the whole game plays out. Strike force missions are special missions that, once picked, lock you out of other missions in the game. You play as a different character, which can use drones, jet fighters and robots to assist you in the Strike force missions.

The difference between the main campaign and these side missions are that if you die, that character remains dead for the rest of the story. You jump right back to the main storyline. This could even affect the outcome of Menendez’s plans. By the end of the game you may have changed the results of the new Cold War or failed to have stopped it. Either way, you will be shown what could have been. This adds so much replay value to a game that you could, possibly, have only play once and been bored of a second time around. This is what Treyarch are doing to save the Call of Duty franchise and it appears to be working. Another feature Treyarch have become famous for with their Call of Duty games is, of course, the Zombie mode. This time instead of just trying to survive for as long as you can, there is a main storyline to follow. This will make for a more interesting game instead of seeing how long you can last.Treyarch has also said that the new zombie mode will feature eight-player co-op instead of the usual four-player co-op. It is set for release on the 13th of November 2012. It will be released on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Microsoft Windows, the Wii and the Wii U.

Jeremy Clarkson does not like electric cars. Among his more reasonable objections are that you can't go much further than 100 miles on a charge, and that the batteries might cost a bit to replace when they wear out.Well, Renault's Fluence ZE might go some way to making him feel a bit warmer towards pure electric cars – at least on these fronts. First of all, the Fluence "Zero Emissions" manages to look like a normal car. That's really not a given – the G-Wiz, for example, looks like something drawn by a sugar-addled five-year-old.The Fluence, by comparison, is a handsome and quite conventional saloon. Observers won't have a clue that it's powered by electrons instead of petrol. Based on a petrol car’s design, this electric version does 0-62mph in 13secs and a top speed of 84mph.Those aren't sports car numbers of course, but because the Fluence ZE delivers all of its torque from zero revs, it does manage to feel quicker than the numbers suggest. The five-seat interior feels conventional. It's quite roomy up front and there is space in the back for a couple of adults. But because the battery pack lives between the back seat and the boot, the latter is a bit compromised. Otherwise, the only real clue that you're in a pure-electric car is the charge-level indicator where you’d normally find a rev counter. There is also a meter that shows how much energy you’re using at any given moment. And driving the Fluence ZE couldn’t be easier. Turn the key and the word ‘Go’ appears on the dash. Slot the automatic shifter into D and off you go. It really is that simple – once you're underway, the only clue that the Renault is electric is the eerie absence of noise at lower speeds and the seamless acceleration, unbroken by the usual gearshift jerks.

The Fluence ZE is billed as being quite good fun to drive on twisting roads, too. The ride quality, while firm, is not uncomfortable. And now, the thing that everybody wants to know about – range. Renault says that the Fluence ZE can go 115 miles on a charge but drive aggressively, as Clarkson might like to, and that could fall to 50 or 60 miles. Renault is also attempting to address the battery life issue. When you buy the ZE, you own the car but only lease the battery. That means Renault sorts any problems that might arise and guarantees that the battery in your car will never have less than 75% of its original efficiency. There's a wide range of battery hire options with Renault. Renault Ireland says they'll sell the ZE without battery, taking into account current tax rebates for Electric Vehicles, for €21,620. For the battery, they'll charge €79+VAT on a monthly lease, or €1,147 annually to a private buyer not registered for VAT. Electric 'fuel' costs can be estimated at around €200 a year.Road Tax at the moment is €104, the same as for the diesel Fluence. I'm pretty sure that the Fluence ZE wouldn’t convert Clarkson, but it could win over a great many others.

Katy Perry To Retreat From The Spotlight After Her New Movie Snoop Dogg Plans 'Coronation Street' Episode With Cheryl Cole

Worn out Katy Perry is set to go to ground in the aftermath of her new mobvie’s run.The popular singer - who split from husband Russell Brand in December 2011 after 14 months of marriage - wants to take a break from the limelight after promoting her new film,'Katy Perry: Part Of Me.’

Rap legend Snoop Dogg has his sights set on a career on the British small screen. The star, who has, long insisted that he's a fan of the cobble-set show has heard that Cheryl Cole recently admitted that she wouldn't mind a cameo in an episode and his plans have taken another turn.

Katy is reported as saying:“'I'm going to go into major hiding. I think I'll have to after this movie comes out.

Snoop was recently reported as saying:“People always think I'm playing when I talk about Coronation Street, but I swear it’s my favourite show on TV.

''I have always wanted to do that since I was a little kid.''

“They got everything - sex, murder, transsexuals. There ain’t no other show that can touch it." Turning his attention to Ms Cole Snoop admitted he “couldn't believe it” when he heard she was keen to appear on the show and the wheels started turning. He said: "If the producers write a cool storyline for me and Cheryl I guarantee I will clear my schedule and come do a two-week shoot. The writers are sick on Corrie. I want to see me and Cheryl arrive on the Street as a couple from overseas.Within the first week I would expect Ken Barlow to have seduced Cheryl because you know that dog don’t let his age stop his skills with the women. Then a broken-hearted Snoop falls into the arms of a broken-hearted Deirdre.” Absolutely amazing.

Cheryl Cole to Guest Star on Glee

''I am going to get a globe and spin it and point my finger at a place and then head there.

The hardworking star reportedly also told her entourage that she needs an '”extended break” from her career as she '”needs to let her heart heal”. Katy, 27, embarked on a gruelling year-long 'California Dreams' world tour last year, playing 124 shows across the globe. She has struggled to find time to deal with her split from funnyman Russell, 36, after the British comedian filed for divorce, citing“irreconcilable differences'”. The 'Teenage Dream' singer - who is now dating Florence + The Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd - hints in her new fly-on-the-wall film that her marriage breakdown was due to Russell feeling threatened by her commitment to her career. She confessed:“I thought to myself,'When I find that person that's going to be my life partner, I won’t ever have to choose between the partner and my career. They won’t be threatened or have weird motives.’Then I started to realise, that’s not true.''

Glee will add another big name to its growing roster of A-list guest stars during its fourth season.Cheryl Cole will make an appearance on the FOX hit,it has been reported, with the entire cast of Glee also set to return for season four.

Cheryl Cole will appear in at least one episode, however no announcement has been made as to who Cole will play. She recently appeared as herself in the film What to Expect When You’re Expecting, co-starring Glee’s Matthew Morrison.

Though all the graduating seniors will be back, it has yet to be revealed in how many episodes each will appear. However, it is confirmed that Lea Michele (Rachel), Cory Monteith (Finn), and Chris Colfer (Kurt) will all return as series regulars. Chord Overstreet (Sam) is also in talks to rejoin the show as a series regular (last year he returned as a reoccurring character). The fourth season of the International hit will feature a show-within-a-show concept, splitting time between McKinley High and New York, where Rachel and Kurt (Michele and Colfer) are following their showbiz dreams.

In addition to Michele, Monteith and Colfer, Glee graduated co-stars Amber Riley (Mercedes),Mark Salling (Puck), Harry Shum Jr.(Mike), Naya Rivera (Santana) and Dianna Agron (Quinn) at the end of last season but there is no word yet in what capacity these characters will return. Also set for a comeback are Darren Criss, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Jenna Ushkowitz, and Heather Morris. No decision has been made on the fate of Glee Project winners Damian McGinty and Samuel Larsen.

Job levels at Enterprise Ireland firms stabilise At the launch of its annual report,Enterprise Ireland said employment levels in its client companies stabilised last year. The State agency supports Irish-owned companies, as opposed to IDA Ireland, which helps foreign-owned groups. Full-time employment in the firms it supports stood at 141,228 by the end of the year. Just over 9,000 jobs were created in 2011, while job losses were the lowest recorded in recent years. The report reveals that Enterprise Ireland supported 93 new highpotential start-ups during the year and approved €20.4m in funding, while there were 19 follow-on investments in high-potential start-ups worth €3m. During the year, 484 companies took part in 42 trade fairs and missions, Enterprise Ireland added while on research and development 743 client companies engaged in significant R&D projects, spending over €100,000 a year. The Technology Centre programme, which EI runs with IDA Ireland, was also expanded during the year with the launch of manufacturing and energy efficiency technology centres. “The performance of Ireland’s exporting sector in overseas markets in 2011 was remarkable in any context, but particularly against the backdrop of a global economic situation,” said Enterprise Ireland’s Chief Executive Frank Ryan. The impact of this on the Irish economy is enormous,Mr Ryan added. "These companies are responsible for the direct and indirect employment of more than 300,000 people in every town and village in Ireland,he said."Indigenous exporters also spent €18.3bn on goods and services in the Irish economy in 2011."

Genesis Media, home of InTallaght Magazine, goes global Tallaght man featured in Dragons’ Den gets own TV show

Genesis Media, the home of InTallaght is about to go global with the introduction of its Dance Magazine to the iPad.The innovative company has opened itself up to the 316 million iOS (the operating system which Apple uses on its iPhone, iPad and iPods) devices worldwide. The publication, which hit the shelves in June, is a 120-page glossy which is jam-packed with the hottest interviews from the dance scene – and the iPad version which is interactive is even more impressive.

JASON O REILLY, the Tallaght native who won over the mentors on Dragons Den with his Pride watches has just found out he is to be the subject of an upcoming RTE documentary.

Editor, Emer Mulvaney said:“We are constantly thinking about the future of the publishing industry and as such are looking to export the magazine, opening it up to a fantastically huge market which would be great for Irish business and for jobs. “It has great potential and we are very excited about it.”

Loop Line Films will shadow Jason as he sets out to conquer the business world three months after his success on the show. In May he signed a €150,000 deal with SuperValu which sees him supply his sports club-orientated silicone watches exclusively through their outlets across the country.

American teen sensation Chachi, who is the former winner of America’s Best Dance Crew, features on the front cover with an exclusive interview inside while Ballet’s Monica Loughman also spoke to the magazine about her career so far, the new full-time dance academy which she is launching in September and her wish to work with more ballet schools and teachers here in Ireland.

Jason told InTallaght:“This means everything to me. I’ve got a little bit of my bounce back.Sales are going well.740 stores nationwide stock the Pride Watch and I’ve also done a deal with Manchester United and Liverpool FC.”

Dance Magazine is a rebrand of Dance Starz Magazine which was launched in March this year. Genesis Media made the brave decision to rebrand after realising that the logo and branding were more hip hop than originally intended. In an effort to become more inclusive the company went back to the drawing board, renamed the product Dance Magazine and created a bigger and better, more classier version which appeals to all genres of dance.

Since his victory in March Jason has been very busy getting his fledgling business off the ground. This has involved plenty of travelling.“I was in China last week, I went to seven different factories in a 300-mile round trip to find what I was looking for. The Chinese people are so welcoming, I trust them so much.” Jason said he has a new product being manufactured at the moment, which should be available before Christmas. “I have loads of things lined up. Obviously I can’t discuss exactly what they are yet but I have another product due to be launched soon” he said. He also has encouraging words of advice for people who are struggling at the moment.“Don’t give up, there is light at the end of the tunnel, I’m proof of this. Just keep going and believe in yourself” he said.

Emer added:“Making the decision to rebrand was not an easy one but our gut instinct was to make it even more inclusive. We had had some phenomenal feedback and were confident that our readers would react well – we were right and it has been a great success so far.Copies are flying out of the shops already and that’s testament to the product we worked so hard to get out there.” Dance Magazine has something for everyone, from news, interviews, previews, reviews, fashion and gadgets to name a few. It is suitable for dancers of teenage years and upwards, costs €4.99 and is printed quarterly. It is also available on Apple’s Newsstand on the App Store. For more information log on www.dancemagazine.ie

Bank of Ireland has reduced its loan book by €10 billion The target was laid down by the Central Bank in last year's stress tests. The bank recently announced that it has agreed to sell a €270m portfolio of UK loans to Danish pension fund PensionDanmark. That sale brings the total loan sales to €10bn and the bank says that the loans have been achieved at an average discount of 7.9 per cent. The sales have reduced the bank's wholesale funding requirements and have had a positive impact on the bank's core Tier 1 ratio which is the its buffer against future potential losses.

Mac Users Pay More For Hotels On Travel Site Research by Orbitz found that fans of Apple equipment were likely to outlay 30 per cent extra on hotel rooms, and developed the algorithm to list different and costlier hotels and room tariffs it has been confirmed According to the Wall Street Journal, the system is part of a wider data mining project of online usage of seemingly innocuous information to help predict spending habits and tastes. It said the system has evolved since boss Barney Harford, a former Expedia executive, headhunted statisticians from eBay and Google to create a new analytics team. The team also discovered some innovative and design-led hotels were far more likely to be booked by Mac users than those on Microsoft’s Windows systems.

The Tier 1 ratio increase is taken as an indication that the sales have provided a reasonable return, rather than a fire sale.

"We had the intuition, and we were able to confirm it based on the data," Orbitz Chief Technology Officer Roger Liew said. He added that some other factors have been identified in influencing choices, including user location and previous site history, along with promotions and hotel popularity. Apple users are known as being keen on design and are willing to pay extra for innovative technology, such as with the premium-priced iPad tablets.

On that basis it hopes to reduce its loan book from €114 billion to about €90 billion by December 2013.

According to consumer research by Bizrate Insights, many tablet owners spend 28 per cent more than non-tablet users and their average household income is 55 per cent higher.

Foxconn could be preparing for Apple’s TV Barely a week goes by without another rumor about Apple's bid to reinvent the TV and this time it's a biggie: Hon Hai (Foxconn's parent company) has already invested in Sharp's LCD plant, and now it's seemingly moving delivery of large numbers of big flat-panel LCDs to the third quarter of 2012 instead of the fourth quarter, as had been previously rumoured. If you believe Apple is making a TV, and if you believe that Foxconn and Sharp are intimately involved in the plan, then this seems to suggest the device is in late-stage prototyping and may even arrive late in 2012 to soak up sales in the holiday season.

A life unplanned

Daydreaming

Somehow I got lost in a life I hadn't planned, Dreams of excitement never came to be. Once I wore my wedding band My book was never written My feet they didn't dance I didn't travel round the world I never got the chance. Instead I got a mortgage, Stayed in a dead end job Work was hard to come by then And I needed the few bob. I had dreams which never did come true They faded as life went on, Doing things I never planned to do My dreams they were long gone. But now I've a chance to live those dreams Do the things I always wanted, Visit places I've never been I will not be daunted. I'll see things I've never seen Be the me I wanted to be Not the me I'd become I'm no longer eighteen. Living a life that makes me happy A life that's not that grand, Doing the things I want to do In a life I never planned.

Walking through woodland, a bright opening came upon me... Gazing upwards at the infinite sea of blue in all its wonder.

Trish Nugent We featured Trish’s short story, ‘Empty Spaces’ in May’s Edition 14 of InTallaght. She attends a creative writing course in Tallaght Library and is a member of Platform One writers’ group in Rua Red.

Soft cushioned clouds whisp by. Silent I gaze, knowing that past this wondrous blue lining Lies the sun, moon and stars. A magical place - untouchable. I can only dream of its beauty I fantasise...reaching upwards fingers stretched I feel the sun on my face Long grass touching my bare legs I close my eyes I see the universe The blackness illuminated with the brightest stars Endless. A chorus rings in my ears Birds singing in the woodland trees I smile, I take a deep breath This too was a magical place...untouchable.

Gina McCormack Gina is a local woman who writes poems, short stories and articles which focus on the local community. She is also currently working on her first novel.

“The Daydreamer” is a strange kind of book. Despite my earlier protestations that I don’t tend to read books of short stories, I find myself with another one for you this edition.Regular readers of my column will know that I love Ian McEwan. In fact, he holds joint first place for the heady title of my favourite author alongside Iain Banks of The Wasp Factory fame. I had never heard of“The Daydreamer”before I happened across a copy a few weekends ago. It was first published in 1995 and has not garnered the same amount of critical acclaim as some of his other titles. I say it’s a strange kind of book because it is a childrens’ book written by an author that usually writes for adults. McEwan says that he wanted ‘to write a book for adults about a child in a language that children could understand.‘ The result is a charmingly innocent set of stories about a little boy called Peter. In these seven exquisitely interlinked episodes, the grown-up protagonist Peter Fortune reveals the secret journeys, metamorphosis, and adventures of his childhood.

McEwan has said that when writing a book for children, he was striving for “a good tale above all, a sympathetic hero, villians yes - but not all the time because they are too simplifying - clarity in the openings, twists in the middle, and satisfying outcomes that are not always happy.” Living somewhere between dream and reality, Peter experiences fantastical transformations. He swaps bodies with the wise old family cat; exchanges existences with a cranky infant; encounters a very bad doll who has come to life and is out for revenge; and rummages through a kitchen drawer filled with useless objects to discover some not-so-useless cream that actually makes people vanish. Finally, he wakes up as an eleven-year-old inside a grown-up body and embarks on the truly fantastic adventure of falling in love. “I hoped the subject matter–the imagination itself–was one in which anyone who picks up a book has a stake. Similarly, transformation has been a theme, almost an obsession, in all literatures,” he has said. These kind of grand themes certainly draw the reader though the words he uses are a little simpler, and the general plot easy enough for a child to follow, his finely honed writing skills still shine though. One wonders if little Ian was as prone to daydreaming as Peter. It is

written from the persepective of an adult looking back on the events of his childhood but does not lose the air of possibility and adventure that, that child would have felt. In the preface, McEwan asks if we adults really mean it when we say we like children’s literature or are we merely “speaking up for, and keeping the lines open to, our lost, nearly forgotten selves?” I think I probably would have enjoyed this when I was younger and reading it now, I enjoyed the innocence and magic so often missing from fiction written purely for adults. It’s an interesting experiment and one I think is worth a read. About The Author McEwan's works have earned him worldwide critical acclaim. He has been shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction numerous times, winning the award for Amsterdam in 1998. His novel Atonement won several awards and was also made into a film starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy. McEwan lives in London and is currently writing a new novel.

How do you match a concealer I sometimes get tiny dry patches on to your shade of foundation? my skin which my makeup clumps over. What's the best way to hydrate my skin and avoid this? Cara Smith, Tallaght

Hi Cara, the first thing before you try and match your concealer with your foundation is to ask yourself , where do I want to use the concealer, under the eyes or to cover blemishes? Once you have answered this question you can start looking at colour.

Emily Rowland, Knocklyon

So how does colour work? Well if you want a concealer for under the eye area and you have dark circles that need covering you want to go for a concealer that is one shade lighter or the same colour code as your foundation but one which has a more pink or warm tone in it.Eg studio fix fluid NC 20 foundation and select cover NW 20.

Hi Emily, many people have this problem. Dry flaky patches are a sign of dryness in the skin not dehydration. So what I would advise you is to invest in is a gentle exfoliating facial scrub to use twice a week or follow the instructions on the product. This will remove any dead skin and help to promote new skin generation.

For blemishes, as most of them are red, this is where you want to chose a concealer with a yellow tone base but keep this concealer at the same colour as your foundation eg Studio fix fluid NC20 and select cover NC20.The bad new is if you really want to cover dark circles and blemishes you really should buy two different concealers but if your dark circles aren't too bad try and stick with the yellow tone base concealer. Oh and apply it after your foundation as you will get better coverage.

Next you need to get the oil back into your skin - this can be done by using a mask once or twice a week, a serum which goes under your moisturiser and also the choice of your foundation can make a real difference in the appearance of your makeup. So my best advice is to get your skin healthy and then your foundation will look flawless. If you have any questions about makeup application, AnJels Pro Makeup team is here to help! Simply email the team on makeup@intallaght.ie and check the next edition to see if your question has been answered by the experts!

Lawn care in your garden A good lawn takes years to establish, and will take more than cutting the grass on a regular basis. To keep your lawn healthy and looking its best, yearly maintenance will require fertilising, topdressing, aerating, moss control and weeding. One thing to remember about mowing and lawn care is that this stimulates growth. The more you cut it,the more your lawn will grow. Little and often is a good way of tackling mowing your lawn. A good rule to follow is, remove no more than a third of the length of the grass blade each time.If the weather is dry, mow high, but less often, any branches or bushes which shadow the lawn should be cut back where possible, helping to ensure adequate light reaches the grass. Help eliminating pests In a jar, put one teaspoon of washing up liquid and one cup of vegetable oil.Shake well.In an empty spray bottle, put two teaspoons of this mixture and one cup of water. Spray every week to 10 days or more often if needed to help rid plants of mites, whiteflies, scales, aphids and other pests. Fertilizers Using compost fertilizers is a great way to help keep healthy plants. It is also an economical way to save on expensive bought fertilizers.Non-organic fertilizers tend to leave chemical residues that can build up in garden soils and harm not only the plants but wildlife as well. They can cause pollutants to get into the water supply. Garden worms are important to plants, they till and aerate the soil for the roots to breathe.Non-organic fertilizers can kill them. Feeding There is always a temptation to overfeed our gardens but this just results in lush sappy growth that is vulnerable to pests and diseases. So why waste money on unnecessary fertilizers? Instead, follow these guidelines to get the best results: Plants in pots, containers and hanging baskets will suffer if you don’t supplement the nutrients in the compost throughout the growing season. Either incorporate a

slow release fertilizer at planting time or use a water soluble feed every week to ten days through the summer. Use a high nitrogen feed, such as Miracle Grow, until midsummer, then switch to a high potassium feed, such as one of the liquid tomato feeds. Plants for shade or sun If you have a shady area in your garden, consider planting, Phlox, Impatiens, Ferns, Hostas and African violets. These fabulous plants will grow very well in darker spaces and are very easy to grow for inexperienced gardeners. For flowers in a sunny area, some of the easiest flowers to grow are the Black Eye Susan, Marigolds, Sunflowers, Petunias, Begonias and Coreopsis and many more. All of these flowers are great for beginners and will grow all summer long in sunny garden areas. Watering Don’t neglect your watering duties, especially if the very hot weather sets in.If you don’t water enough, roots will stay near the surface, making them even more susceptible to the heat. An inch of water a week is a good rule of thumb. Always water early in the morning so that foliage has time to dry during the day, which helps prevent fungal infections. You should try to have some good beneficial insects in your garden. Not all insects are bad.Butterflies,Bees,Hoverflies and Beetles are critical to flower gardens to help with pollination.Your flowers will not do very well without being pollinated. Ladybirds, Dragonflies as well as some other insects help eliminate harmful insects. These insects prey upon other bugs like Aphids, which can be hard to get rid of.You need to encourage beneficial insects to visit your garden and stay there. You can do this by trying to include many different kinds of plants and shrubs in your garden including evergreens, fruit trees, old fashioned cottage garden plants, annuals and wildflowers. If you can find room for a native tree, this would be an advantage, maybe a Holly, Rowan or Birch would be ok in a small garden, or if you have a bigger garden you could consider a Larch, Ash or Willow.

It also helps to adopt a more relaxed approach to gardening, avoiding chemical sprays and slug pellets, to encourage smaller creatures and insects which will be food for birds. Diseases One of the more common fungi that I get asked about a lot is powdery mildew. This appears as a white film on the leaves of ornamental plants. Dogwoods and Purple Sand Cherry can often be the victims of Powdery Mildew which isn’t particularly harmful to the plants,it's just that the foliage gets damaged and little growing takes place once it sets in.Your local garden centre will have a general fungicide you can spray if you’d like to try and control it. Dead-heading I listed dead-heading as a spring chore, but you should continue to dead-head flowers that have passed throughout the summer (this increases bloom time and strengthens the plant). Pay special attention to deadheading flowers that self-seed once they have passed so that you maintain control over where they spread in your garden. If you want to propagate certain plants, you can save the flower heads for planting at a later date.

Is it safe to train while pregnant? There are plenty of reasons why you should exercise while pregnant such as helping to prevent back pain, easier labour and reducing the risk of postpartum depression. Another benefit could be to reduce excessive weight gain and choosing the right type of exercise can be a tricky one but really it’s simple! Here are some tips to guid you along the way... Avoid high risk activities: Keep it simple don’t put you or your baby at risk from any high risk activities. Contact sports such as downhill skiing wouldn’t be a good idea. Alternatively take a simple 20 min walk or swim. Don’t start something new: If you’re not currently a gym goer or regularly exerciser don’t jump into exercising just because you’re pregnant but similarly if you are a regularly active and become pregnant, once cleared by your GP, it’s ok to continue. In any case keep it simple when it comes to introducing exercise during pregnancy. Perform Kegel exercise: Common problems during pregnancy such as haemorrhoids and bladder issues may be helped by kegel exercise. Traditional abdominal exercisesthat flex the spine ie. sit ups, are not recommended. Listen to your body: ‘No pain, no gain’ may be well

intended but most definitely doesn’t apply when you’re pregnant.Warning signs during exercise such as dizziness, abdominal or vaginal bleeding or anything out of the ordinary and you should seek medical attention immediately. Stay hydrated and keep cool: Keeping hydrated is super important for all of us but especially during pregnancy, before, during and after any activity.Body temperature is also well worth monitoring as appropriate exercise shouldn’t have you over heating OR sweating. Types of exercise: Yoga is a fantastic choice during pregnancy as its gentle postures helps reduce back pain while keeping your baby happy as you’re working on your breathing exercises. It’s very low risk and extremely beneficial.Add in some walking/swimming and you’re ready to go.Post pregnancy is even more important in terms of getting you back on track. Check out your local Fitmum classes which are a specific exercise class for mothers with the added benefit of bringing your baby. Remember keep it simple and always listen to your body,

NOTE:this article is not aimed at providing medical advice so please consult your GP before commencing any exercise...

BEAG AGUS BEO is, as its Irish name says, a small and very lively Badminton Club playing at “home” in the Leinster Badminton Centre, Whitehall Road, Terenure. The Club was founded in 1998 and currently boasts over 40 members. The Club is managed by its members through a Committee elected every year. Since its foundation the Club has concentrated on two goals: a competitive enjoyment of badminton and a fun and friendly atmosphere. On the competitive front, the Club enters a number of teams every year in the Dublin District League & Cup (DDLC), from Division 10 up to Division 5. The season runs from October until April. In September the Club’s Selection Committee assesses members interested in playing in the League and forms teams based on the strengths and compatibility of players. A Mixed team counts 8 players (4 men and 4 ladies), a Men’s or Ladies’ team has 4 players. The Club has two “Club Nights” for all members on Wednesdays and Fridays (3 courts, 8pm to 11pm). Last year we organised special Coaching sessions for members and this proved to so successful that coaching will be extended for next season.

For the 2011-12 season we registered 7 teams (3 Mixed, 2 Mens and 2 Ladies) in the DDLC and brought home 4 trophies! A great achievement for a small club! Whereas most badminton clubs take a break in the summer we play all year round. From May we run a Summer Club every Wednesday. Anyone with some badminton experience is welcome and is guaranteed a good night of badminton for a mere €7 – a small sum to pay for a good night! Many people who come to the Summer Club then decide to join to keep playing. Maybe the Summer Club is for you? On the social front we have a fantastic Social Officer to organise our Christmas party,a celebratory end-of-season party and any other night out whenever we feel like it! These nights are always successful with a healthy mixture of badminton gossip and old-fashioned craic. Beag agus Beo is a local and thriving badminton club with an international flavour (with representatives from Mayo to Malaysia!). We love the bustle of the club nights, the support on “home” match nights and the thrill of the “away” nights. But above everything we love our badminton and would like you to share that with us! Gary Twigg continues to be Shamrock Rovers’ lethal striking weapon. Since the Scotsman, joined the Hoops back in 2009 he hasn’t stopped scoring. On his competitive home debut he scored his first Rovers goal which also happened to be the first goal ever scored in Tallaght Stadium. The man from Glasgow, who is a big fan of the Scottish team, which also plays in green and white like the hoops, has been top scorer for Rovers every season he has played for the club. He currently leads the way again this season with 15 league goals (and he has also scored two goals in the Setanta Sports Cup). It is no surprise to see that he is also the leading goalscorer in the Airtricity League. His goal tally is all the more impressive due to the fact he is not the regular penalty taker for Rovers. Coming into July, Twigg has made 77 league appearances for Rovers in his career and has scored 74 goals to date, which is an incredible achievement. The 28 year-old’s contract is up at the end of this season and all Rovers fans will be hoping that Twigg signs a contract extension. If he does then the all-time Shamrock Rovers league goalscoring record could well be his. Paddy Ambrose’s 109 goals is the target to beat. Twigg is currently eigth on the list of league goalscorers at Rovers with Mick Leech just above him on that list with 84 goals. Twigg is a player who loves to score goals and loves to play for the Hoops. Here’s hoping he continues to do both for Rovers for many years to come.

European Football Back in Tallaght Ireland’s early elimination from UEFA EURO 2012 was a major disappointment but for Shamrock Rovers fans the more crucial European football engagement is the League of Ireland champions entry into the Champions League. In the second qualifying round draw, Rovers avoided the potential long trip to Belarus to face Bate Borisov and also avoided being drawn against FC Basle which was another team like Bate in the Rovers section of the draw who played in the 2011 Champions League group stages. Instead, Rovers are heading back to the Baltics where they played last year at this stage of the competition. Back then it was a trip from Tallaght to Tallinn in Estonia but in 2012 Rovers will travel to face Lithuanian Champions FK Ekranas Panevezys. European football will be a nice distraction for Rovers who went into the start of the month having slipped to fourth in the Airtricity League table. During the mid-season break, Monaghan United pulled out of the league. The expunging of Monaghan’s results effectively helped Rovers as the Hoops had dropped two points against Monaghan in Gortakeegan towards the end of May. With one eye on Europe during the mid-season League break, Rovers played Swedish side Malmo in Tallaght. Gary Twigg scored the Rovers goal in a 2-1 friendly defeat. On the return to competitive action in the League, Rovers won a highly entertaining game in Tolka Park where they came from behind twice to beat Shelbourne 3-2. Rovers had fallen behind to an early Shelbourne goal before Twigg equalised. Philly Hughes then put Shels back into the lead on a very wet night in Drumcondra but then Gary McCabe and Twigg again scored to give Rovers all three points.

Shamrock Rovers made it a hat-trick of penalty shoot out wins from three different cup competitions this season when they eliminated Saint Patrick’s Athletic in the quarter final of the EA Sports Cup. The teams were deadlocked in Richmond Park after both 90 and 120 minutes following first half goals from Killian Brennan for Rovers and Sean O’Connor for the home team. While Oscar Jansson had been in goal for Rovers’ other shoot out wins (against Cliftonville in the Setanta Sports Cup and Saint Patrick’s Athletic in the Leinster Senior Cup), this time it was Reyaad Pieterse in goal for the Hoops for the shoot out. The young South African goalkeeper was the hero as he saved two penalties setting up Conor McCormack to score the winning spot kick as Rovers progressed 4-2 on penalties. Rovers will know who they will face in the semi-final when the draw is made on July 9. Limerick, Drogheda United and Sligo Rovers are the other teams that will be in that semi-final draw. Against Bohemians in Dalymount Park at the end of June, Rovers suffered a heavy defeat. Rovers’ three losses in the league have all come away from home and have not been close affairs. Pats beat Rovers 5-1 and Sligo beat the Hoops 3-0 earlier in the season. However, Rovers bounced straight back from those defeats with wins in their next league game. Rovers will be hoping for another return to winning ways after that defeat to Bohs and that opportunity will come on Sunday, July 8, when they face St Patrick’s Athletic.
