An exciting end to the summer for Tallaght Youth Band after performing at two major events and winning first prize in a national competition The end of August saw the TYB on the road with trips to Arklow for the Irish Marching Band Association competition and Kerry for the Rose of Tralee while back home in Dublin there was a performance at the Tall Ships Crew Parade. Linda Bennett PRO said: “TYB went to Arklow and we took first place again in the IMBA competition. It has been six long years since we have been at the top of the league and we hope to continue on our winning streak at the finals on September 8 in Clonmel. Our members are the ones who have put in all the hard work in every kind of weather and now their dedication has paid off. A finer bunch of young people I have yet to meet.” The trip to Kerry marked the tenth year in a row for TYB to take part in the Rose of Tralee, an event at which members always enjoy playing thanks to the great reception they receive every year while performing. “We always receive a warm welcome from the crowds that line the route of the parades every year.”Linda said.

“ This year was no different and it is great to hear the shouts of“up the Dubs”from the Kerry people.Every year our experience in Tralee gets better and better and for our members on their first trip to Tralee it always has the wow factor and they, like our other members, look forward to their next Tralee”.

“There may have been showers but it didn’t dampen the cheers from the crowds lining the route of the parade. Young and old enjoyed the music and danced along with the band. We also got to meet up with our friends in Dublin Fire Brigade Pipe Band and the Garda Band too,” said Linda.

She added:“Over the years we’ve made many friends and hope to keep doing so for many more years to come. During our time in Tralee this year we marched in two parades, we entertained the crowds from our base in Denny Street and we also played in wonderful sunshine in the park with young and old dancing along to the music.”

Anyone who is thinking of getting involved with Tallaght Youth Band should get in touch as they are on the look out for new members this month.

Following the excitement of Tralee it was back home to Dublin and another massive event, the Dublin Tall Ships Crew Parade on Friday, August 24 and despite just returning from Kerry they were delighted to take part. Along with crews from all over the world TYB gathered at the Point Village prior to the parade, giving them a great opportunity to meet other bands.

Linda concluded: ”Tallaght Youth Band will be recruiting new members in September. For anyone with an interest in music, travelling, making friends and having funTYB could be for you. No experience is needed. For more information check out our website www.tallaghtyouthband.com, our Facebook page or email us on tallaghtyouthband@hotmail.com.”

doubt as to who is master. The mountains have a habit of keeping their secrets safe and we all know the tragic stories of Ireland’s missing persons. I’ve been deeply affected, like most people, by the sadness surrounding those tragedies.”

Louise told InTallaght that she was“very excited” as the book had been receiving great reviews prior to its’ release date.

For Louise, the satisfaction of seeing her first novel in the shops is huge.

“The feedback has been amazing. Everyone is very excited about Red Ribbons, the early signs are positive. It has been available for sale on Amazon for the last few days and has already received two five star reviews,” she said. The book is a psychological thriller about a killer who targets young girls and the efforts of a criminal psychologist to get to the bottom of the case.Louise, who lives in Bohernabreena, used the local landscape as a setting for Red Ribbons. "The novel is partly based in the Dublin Mountains, where I live and which is an area of great natural beauty, but it can be unforgiving too. In harsh weather and on dark nights, you’re left with no

“If you love books, and writing, it’s an amazing complement to have your novel published. My hope is that the people that read it will let other people know about it through word of mouth. It seems to have had a massive effect on one of our local librarians. She told me that after reading it she’s never going to allow her daughter out again!” Louise has won numerous awards in the past for her writing and earlier this year was awarded an Arts Bursary for literature from South County Dublin Arts Council. She is currently working on her second novel “The Dolls House” which is due for release in 2013. Litter in Tallaght is on the decrease according to recent survey The latest results of the Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) Anti Litter League show a marked improvement in the cleanliness of Tallaght which is now rated ‘Clean to Europeans Norms’. According to the survey “Tallaght, previously ‘moderately littered’, improved to Clean to Europeans Norms. This is a great achievement for the largely populated area, which improved in 2011 from littered to moderately littered which means it is improving consistently. The survey states that “The local authority and the people of Tallaght should be proud” There were no seriously littered sites in Tallaght and six of the 10 sites surveyed were clear of litter and very well maintained. In fact the Tallaght Luas stop was “pristine and probably the best Luas stop in the country” it was said.

The Mayor of South Dublin County Council Cathal King said:“I am delighted with the performance of Tallaght in the IBAL survey. This is evidence of the good work that has been put into maintaining a litter free area. I wish to congratulate the Council, the businesses and the people of Tallaght. This positive news reflects well on our county town. I urge everyone to keep up the good work and maintain this level of cleanliness”. John Quinlivan, Director of Environmental Services added: “The Council has reorganised the cleansing schedule for the county in the past months and the success of this approach is reflected in positive results in the IBAL survey. “The cleansing schedule is mapped and is now available to elected members. We will be making this available to the public before the end of the year”.

I’ve never cried at a play before and if the truth be told I never thought I would. Tuesdays With Morrie, however, has changed all that. The two-man show, starring Andrew Murray as Mitch Albom, the author of the world-famous book Tuesdays With Morrie, and Terry Byrne as Morrie himself, completely blew me away from the moment it opened. I don’t know if it was the introduction to an already deceased Morrie, the way Mitch stood under the spotlight and spoke of the man who danced in the shadows, or if it was the way Morrie back-chatted him, challenging him with humour at every turn. Or perhaps it was the fact that from the first scene this wonderful play stayed true to the book I have long been in love with. Murray, with an impressive American accent is melancholy from the start but as the story flits in and out of the past he displays the perfect mix of anger, regret, angst and unhappiness – often vented through impatient outbursts. All the while Morrie is battling the disease which will kill him, with humour, humility and patience. The relationship between the two, which began when Morrie was Mitch’s professor in college, is a strong one but when Mitch finishes college he moves away to chase his dream of becoming a jazz player until his beloved uncle – the mentor who inspired him to learn the piano – dies. He then leaves his love of music behind and

becomes a sports journalist. For 16 years he is a workaholic and Morrie is a distant memory until he sees him on the TV one day, talking about the degenerative disease which will take his life eventually and Mitch decides to fly out to visit him to ‘pay his respects’ one last time. When he gets there however, he finds the loving man he once knew, just as insightful and intelligent and as bothered about other people as he ever was and slowly Mitch is drawn back into the world of his old friend. He decides thereafter, not just to stay for the day but to remain by Morrie’s side, every week on a Tuesday to be exact - until the end. It’s the touching, heart-warming and uplifting story of two grown men with a deep sense of each other. A mutual respect and friendship that proves invaluable and rises above the fact that they will eventually part forever, and sooner rather than later. It’s amazing the effect one human being can have on another and one would be tempted to see Morrie as the provider of wisdom and life-changing advice but Mitch has as much to bring to the table. Two fine actors and a beautiful script,I would go to see this play time and again and I wouldn’t be surprised if I cried every time. Tuesdays with Morrie is on in The Civic Theatre, Tallaght, until Saturday, September 8.

THE Mansion House was a fitting arena to host the welcoming home of the Irish men and women who did their country proud at London 2012. Roughly 5,000 hardy fans braved terrible conditions on Dawson Street to show their support for the 31 members of Ireland’s team of Olympic athletes – the country’s most successful Olympic team since 1956. Des Cahill from RTE was the MC who put the questions to the medal winners as they stood alongside the rest of their teammates and backroom staff on a special stage. Ireland’s haul of one gold, one silver and three bronze medals was the country’s best performance since the games in Melbourne, when Ronnie Delany, who was among the crowd on Dawson street, won the 1,500 metres gold. The loudest cheer of the day came when our gold medal winner Katie Taylor was eventually introduced to the crowd. Everyone laughed as she jokingly spoke about how she was considering going on holiday to Bundoran with fellow medal winners Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan! Following the onstage Q&A the athletes made their way into the Mansion House to meet with both dignitaries and press alike. The event was attended by Dublin’s Lord Mayor Naoise O Muiri, Junior Sports Minister Michael Ring, Olympic Council of Ireland President Pat Hickey and many popular sporting figures, among them jockey Ruby Walsh and previous Olympic gold medal winning boxer Michael Carruth. InTallaght managed to get in and have a quick word with Katie and hear the other medal winners answer questions from the assembled press pack. John Joe Nevin joked that he would love to take Katie away on holidays but that he’d“have to run it by her father Peter first!” Michael Conlan spoke about the importance of ensuring that Irish Boxing holds onto coaches Billy Walsh and Pete Taylor because losing them“would set Irish boxing back six years.” Speaking to InTallaght Katie said that she was“definitely not going to retire”and that any decision on turning pro would be made in the next few weeks before thanking the fans by saying“The support from the fans today was amazing, especially because the weather was so bad as well. Thanks so much to everyone for coming.” After the event athletes went to Farmleigh House for a Government reception where they were greeted by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

Rock Climbing Catwalk: A fantastic showcase of everything the centre has to offer when it came to preparing to go back to school. The Back To School Fashion Show saw dozens of our stores come together to

parade their wares on the stage when hundreds of you turned out to see what was on offer. From Dunnes to Easons and Shoe Zone to Tesco there was nothing you couldn’t get for that all important new school year, right here at The Square, and the show went down a storm with a new run on the catwalk at 1,2 and 3pm.

An indoor rock climbing wall will be eretced in the centre at the end of the month and we want you all to come and join in the fun. The ‘sky high activity will enable you to experience a climb of up to 10 metres in complete safety. If this doesn’t tickle your fancy though why not try the indoor bungee trampoline and see the Square from a new angle?! The event will take place on Saturday, September 29 from 12-6pm.

Our Commercial Manager Cathryn McMenamy said:“It was the perfect way to bring everything the stores have to offer to people’s minds. It worked really well for everyone.” Don't forget though that The Square and its stores have fantastic deals all year round to get you through the school and college year.

Book Station opened to the public on Level 1 just in time for the back to school and college rush - and it’s been attracting plenty of attention. Talented Tallaght native Angel this year celebrates 20 years in the music business - a business which has seen her rub shoulders with the likes of Bono, Buble and Enrique Iglesias. Editor Emer Mulvaney, catches up with her for a nostalgic chat...

So Angel, Where Did Who Would You People You’ve Met It All Start For You Compare Yourself To? Along The Way? 20 years ago? I started auditioning for bands when I was about 17 and I got into one called Star Attraction. I loved it but after five years I decided that it was time to go out on my own and so I got a van and some gear and that’s exactly what I did. I still have my van and I’m still on the road and it’s been an amazing journey.

What Sort Of Music Do You Play? I play mostly covers as that’s what I’ve built my career on thus far but I do write my own original material too. I don’t play my own stuff at private functions though as people want to see me cover their favourites and I am happy to do that.I keep up to date with all the greats and these days I sing everything from Tina Turner to Maroon Five.

That’s a good question.I don’t know to be honest. My son Jack says he thinks I’m a star all by myself and what better validation than that? I’m glad he doesn’t compare me to anyone.

Why Do You Think That You’ve Gone Unsigned After All This Time? I think probably because I went down the route of doing cover versions.Like I said I do write my own stuff but I was making my career work doing cover versions so I made the decision to continue and that was that. I don’t regret it.I really do just love being on stage and this way I have complete control of my own career.

My manager, who is also my Dad, worked in RTE for over 40 years and that was fantastic for me. It was great for my career and promotion and meeting people. I met Bono and Michael Buble, Louis Walsh and Enrique Englesis among many others!

What’s Been The Highlight Of Your Career So Far? Meeting some of those people has been fantastic but doing the simpler things like turning on the Christmas lights in Dundrum for the past two years has been amazing. I love children so much. I’m a family woman now. I have a seven-year-old son and I love the gigs where I can take him, my husband and my parents. Somewhere I can enjoy the two loves of my life together – family and music.

Tell Us About Some of Where’s Your the Famous Favourite Venue To Play? I’ve played in Dunboyne Castle for the past eight years at Christmas and I love it.

Where Can People Catch You In Future? I’ve had a great run of private functions over the year and and now I hope to do some public gigging. If anybody would like to come and see me they can look me up on Facebook or check out my website www.angel-irl.com. .

Underwhelmed By Van The Man OPEN THE DOOR (To Your Heart’),’ the new single by Van Morrison, has just been released. It’s the first single off his new album, ‘Born to Sing: No Plan B,’ which will be released on October 2 and is his 35th studio album! It’s been a few years since veteran Belfast legend Van released any new material and I really wanted to like this song more. I ‘ve always been a bit of a fan, but this track sounds like most of what he's been churning out for the last few albums. It's an ok song, but it’s fairly bland and formulaic and lacks inspiration, let’s just say Van doesn’t sound like he’s having wild craic singing it!

Not Not Knocking On Heaven’s Door TEMPEST, Bob Dylan's 35th album, is an astonishing piece of work, even older, long-term fans from back in the day will be delighted with it. In my opinion it’s the best work he’s done for a very long time.

The album’s final track Roll on John is a tribute to John Lennon that quotes lines from several Beatles songs, including Come Together and A Day In The Life. It’s a moving, heartfelt tune full of reflection and real emotion.

The rumor doing the rounds in music circles at the moment is that Tempest will be Dylan’s final album; although he himself denied this in an interview during the summer. Whatever the truth is, he shows there’s still life in the old dog yet, if Dylan is knocking on heaven’s door there’s no evidence of it here.

Death features heavily, whether it’s the sinking of the Titanic, the memory of his old departed friend John, or a trio of ex-lovers, mortality is an overriding theme on Tempest which gives the album a dark background. That’s not to say it’s a depressing album as there’s also plenty of roadhouse blues sing-along tracks aswell.

The 10-track album, which comes in at 75 mins in length, continues in the same style of most of his work of the last 10 years. Plenty of bluesy guitar and rollicking jamming accompanied by reflective moments and philosophical musings.

The other good news is that Dylan’s voice doesn’t sound awful on this record. Having seen him try to warble his way through a set in Kilkenny in 2006 I thought he was finished. Six years later and he proves, once again, that he’s still got it.Hopefully this won’t be his last album but if it is it is a fitting way for him to say good-bye.

The 10 tracks are at opposite ends of the spectrum Early Roman Kings for example is pure blues and country whereas the title track of the album Tempest deals with the sinking of the Titanic and contains 45 verses spread out over 14 minutes in which he even references Leonardo Di Caprio! The album opens with Duquesne Whistle a track full of old-time country blues guitar licks before the full band explodes into a big beat rhythm reminiscent of a train chugging through the countryside. On the second track Soon After Midnight Dylan delivers the line “I’m searching for phrases to sing your praises,” about a former lover who he either misses or wants to get even with.I couldn’t decide which myself!

Also he seems to have lost it lyrically, one area that he was always strong in.The old 1960’s Astral Weeks era Van would be shocked to hear lyrics like “Money doesn’t make you fulfilled/money’s just to pay the bills”coming out of his 67-year-old mouth! You can’t really compare it to “If I ventured in the slipstream, between the viaducts of your dream.” Some newer fans may like this song as it’s fairly easy listening and builds up a bit with horns, piano and a nice upbeat feel. It reminds me slightly of Brown Eyed Girl, it’s not bad but I would have expected more from one of the most influential people in the history of modern music. If this is the first single then I’m not holding out much hope for the new album. I hope I’m not being too harsh here, it’s still great to have Van around and recording new material and nearly all of his songs get better with repeated listens so “Open The Door” (To your Heart) may just follow the trend. It’s just this particular track left me feeling a little bit underwhelmed,I just would have expected better from the great “Van The Man.”

The new Samsung Series 8 LED ES8000 Smart TV has taken viewing to the next level with excellent picture quality, voice and gesture control and access to online content and services. Is it a TV or is it an Internet-connected computer? Actually, Samsung’s new high-end ES8000 range, the follow-up to last year’s highly impressive D8000, is both. And the result is a“smart TV”that, for a price, brings many smartphone-like features into a big-screen experience for your lounge. The key selling points of the range are its voice and motion gesture controls, meaning you can perform basic actions by barking instructions at the TV - for example, “TV, power off, okay” - or waving your arms about like Michael Jackson in a music video. The ES8000 unit we take a look at (the 55UE8000) has a 55-inch LED-backlit LCD screen which has 46-inch and 60-inch variants. The range features ultra slim brushed metal bezels and attractive styling and is super easy to install.

First, let’s look at the unit’s hardware features.Apart from the enormous, 1080p screen that displays both 2D and 3D content (using active-shutter glasses, of which a generous four pairs are included in the box), arguably the centrepiece of the ES8000 is its HD camera, mounted in the middle of the top part of the bezel. The camera is used to manage motion gestures. It’s also used by apps like Skype, whose video-calling feature seems almost perfectly suited to a relaxed lounge environment where you want to video-chat with family and friends. The motion controls themselves are a little erratic perhaps the lighting in the test environment was not ideal - and are available only in some Samsung apps in the Smart Hub, the menu screen where you download and open apps such as YouTube,Twitter, Picasa and Facebook.Support from other app vendors should follow over time, especially if Samsung builds motion control into a greater range of its TVs particularly as the technology improves. Interestingly, the ES8000 ships with two remote controls. The first of these is an ordinary remote for changing the volume, flipping between channels and video sources and accessing the menus. The second is much more interesting in that it includes a track pad, which allows you to control an on-screen mouse pointer. It also includes a microphone - press the “voice” button on the remote and speak into it to control actions on the TV using preset commands. Altogether it’s a neat idea, though the track pad sometimes takes a while to respond to touch. We preferred the full Qwerty keyboard remote that came with Samsung’s D8000 line. The TV itself has a wide range of ports, including optical audio-out and three HDMI ports (we’d have preferred

four). There are also two USB 2.0 ports, and when we popped in a flash stick, it played back a range of popular online video file formats without breaking a sweat, probably obviating the need to purchase a set-top box like a Mede8tor or similar if you watch a lot of downloaded shows (Creative Commonslicensed content, of course). Other ports include DVI audio-in,a 3,5mm headphone jack and an Ethernet port, which we didn’t test since the TV is also equipped with a Wi-Fi antenna. A little oddly, there is no VGA connector for hooking the TV up to laptops, but perhaps Samsung reckons this old technology is making way for DVI/HDMI. Also, the TV supports DLNA, so it can connect and play back multimedia content from PCs that also support this protocol. As for that huge screen itself? The clarity is about as good as we’ve seen on any LED-backlit LCD.The purists will argue that plasma is still the better screen technology, offering better contrast and deeper blacks, but Samsung’s latest LED panels are super bright, offer excellent contrast and are, frankly, pretty darn pleasing to look at. The ES8000 is no exception.

The former Take That star, who has been teasing the release of his new single in a series of cryptic messages on his official website, has now revealed the artwork for his ninth studio LP. It sees Williams grace the cover as a gold statue of himself, with the image appearing on a royal blue background.

According to Robbie's Facebook page, Take The Crown is due for release on November 5, 2012 and is available for pre-order on his website. Fans will also be able to purchase either a standard version of the record, as well as a deluxe edition which features two additional tracks Reverse and Eight Letters. Original Sugababes Are Back! Mutya, Keisha and Siobhan have told fans that they will release new music by the end of the year. The three singers, who formed the original Sugababes, announced their reunion earlier this year and have since been busy in the studio working on new material. The girls have roped in ex-All Saints star Shaznay Lewis, Emeli Sandé, Naughty Boy and TMS for their forthcoming album. The trio, who have not recorded together since their 2000 debut ‘One Touch’, but reunited at the end of 2011 however the band’s founding name is currently the property of their former record label, and still used by Amelle Berrebah, Heidi Range and Jade Ewen.

Second Hobbit Film Title and Third Film’s Release Date Announced Just a month after Peter Jackson announced that The Hobbit would be turned into a trilogy, Warner Bros. released the name of the flick's second installment and the release date for the third film. The Hobbit:The Desolation of Smaug will be released on December 13, 2013; the third installment in the series while The Hobbit:There and Back Again, will hit theatres on July 18, 2014. Jackson originally planned to only create two films for the Hobbit series, but decided to add a third when he realised he had enough material to do so.

The Hobbit trailer debuts with four new seconds of Middle Earth! The Hobbit: There and Back Again (the title will remain unchanged) was to have been the second and last Hobbit film before the change was made. “We were really pleased with the way the story was coming together, in particular, the strength of the characters and the cast who have brought them to life,” Jackson said via his Facebook page.“All of which gave rise to a simple question:Do we take this chance to tell more of the tale? And the answer from our perspective as the filmmakers, and as fans, was an unreserved ‘yes’.” Hobbit fans won’t have to wait too much longer for the first flick of the trilogy. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, opens this December 14.

Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanon and Siobhan Donaghy signed a £1million deal with Polydor Records in April 2012 and have been busy in the studio working on new material. In an interview with the website Popjustice, the band described their first meeting following their split. “The first time we sang in a room together and worked out our harmonies and sang them together was recording a song called ‘Too In Love’,” Siobhan said. Buchanan added:“It was the first time we’d sang together since we were 16 years old. To be honest with you it wasn’t an instant thing. When we were younger we gelled straight away but we had to learn to blend with each other again. "It was so special to be excited about hearing our voices together, and being excited about our music. On my days off I'd go home and I’d listen to the tracks. I’d be like, ‘I’m really enjoying this’. I just enjoyed our music.”

Robbie Williams Turns From Rock DJ To Clothing Designer With Farrell Fashion Range Robbie Williams has added a new string to his bow after launching a new fashion range named after his grandfather. The Farrell range at Selfridges was designed with Ben Dickens and is for men who like“a bit of snap” in their clothing. In an advert released to promote the range, Robbie enlisted a familiar face to model his range. Olly Murs helped the star out after the pair became pals on The X Factor in 2009 when they dueted together. As Farrell received its official launch last night, Robbie said:“I see myself as a DJ of clothes. I remix things that I like – it’s a lot like music. I know what I like – every piece in the collection is based on pieces from my own wardrobe which I love.” He added:“My grandfather,Jack Farrell - Jack the Giant Killer – was a huge man, built like an Irish navy, fought in the Second World War, lived on a council estate... He was the first real male figure in my life – he was an honest man, he taught me to box, I was surrounded by women and he worried that I was going to be a sissy. "The integrity of his influence runs throughout this collection.” The Farrell collection is now available in all Selfridges stores and items such as the classic Pea Coat and Harrington “signify Farrell’s dedication to British style and the principles of men being men,” apparently. The Farrell collection will launch here in Ireland in Brown Thomas and BT2 very soon.

Businesses Across Tallaght urged to check whether they are entitled to any of the Government schemes available to help start-up, expand, or create new jobs As part of the 2012 Action Plan for Jobs, the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation has published a list of the supports available to help Irish businesses to start-up or to grow. This new information leaflet for businesses outlines 15 different schemes on offer to help businesses to develop and create jobs.

Dealz big opening in The Square attracts thousands of shoppers and creates 36 new jobs The store, whose parent company is the UK’s Poundland, has created 36 jobs and another branch was opened in Stillorgan four days after Tallaght.Three of the Tallaght jobs also gave employment to three staff who recently found themselves unemployed after the Euro2 store on Level 3 closed.

The Director of the Small Firms Association Patricia Callan told InTallaght Magazine that business owners should check out the options available to them under the Action Plan for Jobs. “I know a lot of business owners may not have read the information leaflet but we would ask them to make themselves familiar with it,” she said. “The Action Plan for Jobs addresses the area of business costs which continue to place huge pressures on the ability of small businesses to invest and develop. For this action plan to deliver jobs,it is vital that all proposals are acted upon and delivered, only then will we move in the direction of restoring business and consumer confidence and creating economic and job growth.” For those looking to expand their business, a number of incentives and tax relief schemes are available to make investment easier. The Employment Investment and Incentive Scheme provides tax relief for investment in certain corporate trades, the R&D tax credit allows companies to offset some of their corporate tax liability and €5,000 innovation vouchers are available to help you explore a business opportunity. Access to credit is frequently mentioned as the single biggest obstacle facing businesses. Through the Micro-Finance Fund and the Credit Guarantee Scheme, loans are being made available to new start-ups and existing SMEs. To tackle unemployment a range of measures has been introduced to make it easier and more attractive for employers to take on more workers. These include the Revenue Job Assist, which encourages employers to give jobs to those on the live register, and the Employer Job (PRSI) Incentive Scheme, under which employers can take on someone who has been unemployed for six months and pay no PRSI for 18 months.

Dealz first opened in Ireland in Portlaoise and Blanchardstown and has been expanding ever since. At Dealz shoppers are guaranteed to find over 3,000 quality products and over 1,000 top brands, across 16 shopping categories including food and drink, health and beauty, household, gardening, DIY, pet, stationery and toys. Most items are priced within the €1.49 range but there are other items being tested with customers such as a new range of pyrex dishes for just €3.99. “Most stock is in and around the €1.49 but not everything,”said Manager Colin Doyle. “We have the new dishes in, which are fantastic value for pyrex, and that’s what it’s all about – so long as it is amazing value then we will stock it.”

Tallaght-based company is planning a floatation on the New York Stock Exchange with sights set on raising up to $100 million in revenue The company, which is called Fleetmatics,is based in Cookstown Industrial Estate and was founded in Dublin, in 2004. It provides GPS technology, mainly to haulage companies, which can be used to determine the location of their client’s vehicles. This service helps the clients to save money by cutting fuel costs and ensuring they use the best routes available. It currently has more than 14,000 customers worldwide, tracking almost 250,000 vehicles. In documents filed recently in the US with the regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company gave details of how it plans to spend the money it may raise from the Initial Public Offering (IPO):"One of our key initiatives is to expand our business internationally, primarily in Europe in the near term, and we expect to hire additional personnel as we pursue this expansion. "We may also complete strategic acquisitions to help us expand our sales and operations internationally," the securities and exchange documents state. The SEC is now conducting a review of Fleetmatics’accounts and other financial transaction history before giving the go ahead for an initial public offering. It is unclear how long this review will take.

Financial planning is a process that helps you plan for the future you want for you and those closest to you.

Fleetmatics chose the US to float because the bulk of the company’s revenues are generated in the US, says chief marketing officer Karen Leavitt who explained because of ongoing discussions with the SEC, the company is limited in the amount of information it can divulge. Even though the firm has provisionally penciled in an initial public offering for September, it depends on market conditions, says Ms Leavitt. “I cannot promise that we will float this year.“ The Tallaght office is Fleetmatics world headquarters and the company also has offices in Templeogue, Cork, the UK and the USA.

Broadband Strategy Welcomed TheTelecommunicationsandInternetFederation (TIF),the IBEC group that represents the Irish telecoms sector, has welcomed the launch of the National Broadband Plan by Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte. TIF Director Torlach Denihan said:“Immediate action by state agencies and local authorities is needed to achieve the next generation broadband targets set out in the plan. Due to capital investment of €2.5bn by industry over the last five years, significant progress has already been made. Industry is on track to reach the milestones of ubiquitous access to basic broadband by 2013 and access to headline speeds of 80-100Mbps in 50pc of households by 2015. It is important that Government creates the right investment environment to encourage industry to continue to invest, which in turn will mean less cost for the taxpayer and better telecommunication services. Industry welcomes the plans for State-led investment in areas where broadband provision is not commercially feasible.” He added: "The commitment to prepare a National Digital Strategy is very encouraging, as is the statement in the Plan that ComReg has been asked to consider any provisions in the regulatory framework which could impede it in prioritising the provision of next generation broadband infrastructure on a commercial basis.”

Harvey Norman Ireland Reduces Losses Harvey Norman Ireland has turned in a reduced loss of €22.3m in the year to end June bringing to €47m the combined losses in 2011 and 2012. Losses in Northern Ireland grew from £2.9m in 2011 to £3.32m in 2012 bringing the total losses over 15 stores in Ireland to €55m. Despite these losses the store chain - part of a giant 300 store Australian-based chain - is committed to further expansion in Ireland with a new store to open soon in Blanchardstown and an online retail presence by Christmas. Head to Temple bar, down cobbled streets Singing along to distant beats From basement night clubs crammed with bodies swaying People enjoying city life and staying for the weekend in Dublin city Where the girls are so pretty Teetering in high heels For pints in O'Neills Tapping on their mobile phone On streets where once walked Molly Malone She didn't own Manolos or Jimmy choos Impractical and expensive shoes Not designed for walking very far Only meant for car to bar They’re all so alive alive oh As they go with the flow Drinking cider and fat frogs Not Guinness or hair of the dog Like people in days gone by I can almost hear the cry Of Ullyses At their sophisticated ways.

Katie Taylor is an Irish boxer of THAT there is no doubt, for years she trained and fought for this FINAL Olympic bout.

The heart of a nation beating NOW AS ONE were wondering if her fight was WON.

A heart of gold and fists like steel her punches landing each one real.

Then came the result and a nation ROARED an Irish Princess had fought and scored.

A young lady from, a town called Bray pulverised opponents and WON today.

Her mission accomplished a dream come true years of practice but THIS she knew.

A crown of VICTORY A medal of GOLD HER SPIRIT ON FIRE her purpose bold.

Guts and stamina blood and tears land the blows forget the fears Forge a path for others to follow and live our lives for a better tomorrow.

Trish Nugent Trish’s short story Empty Spaces was featured in InTallaght earlier this year. Trish attends a creative writing course in Tallaght Library and is a member of Platform One writers group in Rua Red.

She fought like a warrior she won like a Queen and the Irish cheered for WHAT we’ve just seen. A magnificent spectacle of talent and POWER Goddess of the ring who WOULD NOT cower? She danced and punched with furious intent till the final bell rang her strength now spent.

John J May John J May says he “watched with millions...the wonderful Katie smash her way into world boxing history and through pride and tears in my eyes wrote the above poem.”

Seventy-Eight-yearold BettyWeissmann’s husband divorces her after nearly fifty years of marriage. I picked this book off my mother’s bookshelf expecting it to be some kind of family chronicle set in Co. Mayo. It did not take long to realise my mistake. The Three Weissmanns of Wesport is set in Connecticut and is about what happens to a well-established New York family when their patriarch divorceshisseptogenarianwifeinfavourofhissecretaryFelicity.

find themselves the middle-aged products of a broken home. Dumped by her husband of nearly fifty years and then exiled from their elegant NewYork apartment by his mistress,Betty is forced to move to a small,run-downWestport,Connecticut, beach cottage. Joining her are Miranda and Annie, who dutifully comes along to keep an eye on her capricious mother and sister. As the sisters mingle with the suburban aristocracy, love starts to blossom for both of them, and they find themselves struggling with the dueling demands of reason and romance. It describes itself in the blurb on the back of the book as “A playful homage to Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility” though I must admit that I didn’t really notice. It is imbued with a gentle humour and is surprisingly poignant in parts.

When Joseph announces that he intends to divorce Betty,he cites “Irreconcilable differences.” Betty replies ''Oh, Joseph. What does that have to do with divorce?'"

This is not really chick lit,but more of a domestic comedy. The main characters are women and there are romantic elements but I really enjoyed how they related to each other and to their change in situation,in different ways.

Sisters Miranda, an impulsive but successful literary agent, and Annie, a pragmatic library director, quite unexpectedly

My boyfriend was telling me about something called the Bechedel Test recently. The Bechdel Test requires that a story

firstly have at least two women characters, secondly, they must talk to each other, and thirdly, this conversation must be about something other than a man. So many stories in the modern media are totally male dominated or sappy romances that this is a way of testing if it contains real women characters. This book most definitely passes. It’s a fairly light read, I can imagine it being a good book to read on an aeroplane, but I did get sucked into the storylines of the three women. The pull quote on the front states that the NewYorkTimesfound it“hilarious”,and it is a funny book. There is something about the way that Betty engages with the world without having caught up with it in the last 20 years which makes for real comedy. It is a charming and tender story, well worth a look. How often should face masks be applied to get the best results for normal skin?

I have greyish/blue eyes. What colour eye shadow would you recommend for me?

Tracy Dunne, Templeogue

Tanya McNally, Citywest

Hi Tracy, from my experience a face mask should be used once to twice a week. Not only will your skin feel and look great but it’s a nice way to relax. Oh and just because it is called a face mask that doesn't mean you only apply it to the face. Always apply some to the neck and chest area but if the mask is not suitable for these areas you can get a second mask to suit.

Hi Tanya, I love that colour of eye. This is a brief overview of how colour and picking the right shade works. If you want your eyes to stand out you need to use a contrast colour. This means if your eyes are a cool colour like yours are then you need to use a warm tone so that the two colours fight to be seen.I would suggest colours like golds, orange, warm browns, peaches and or peach/pink.These would all look great and make your eyes pop. Hopefully this explanation will help you understand when purchasing your next bag or box of fertilizer from a garden centre or superstore. The numbers can vary but the rules are the same eg; (10.10.20), (7.7.7), (3.6.9) and so on. Take for example (10.10.20) First number (10) represents Nitrogen Second number (10) represents Phosphorus Third number (20) represents Potassium Nitrogen for leaf maker – grass, and leafy vegetables for eating eg; lettuce, cabbage etc. Phosphorus for root maker – root vegetables, fruit and seed crops eg; carrots Potassium (potash) eg; flowers, fruit and potatoes. For shrubs it is best to get a granular fertilizer, which is a slow release fertilizer. The numbers should be the same ie; (7.7.7), (10.10.10) (5.5.5). For grass get fertilizer high in nitrogen like Grow More 3 in 1,liquid or granular. For vegetables get something high in Phosphorous. For flowers and fruit get something high in Potassium. Analyse your soil. Most garden centres sell affordable kits to help you determine which nutrients your soil has in abundance, and which ones are lacking. This will help you decide how to fertilize. Winter Planting To ensure your garden is still colourful in the colder months, why not try planting winter flowering Pansies and Primulas. It is also the time of year again to plant

spring flower bulbs like Crocuses, Daffodils, Narcissi and Snowdrops in borders and patio pots. Indoor bulbs such as prepared Hyacinths can also be planted now so that they flower at Christmas time. Allow plants to finish the summer growth cycle in a normal way. Do not encourage growth with heavy usages of fertilizer or excessive pruning at this time. Plants will delay their dormancy process that has already begun in anticipation of winter in the months ahead. New growth can be damaged by an early frost. Rake up leaves, twigs and fruit from crab-apple trees and dispose of them in the trash to help control apple scab disease. Pick up fallen, decomposing fruit that could harbour insects and diseases. If fruits looks infested, put them in the bin, you don't want to add diseases or pests to your compost pile. Continue to pick fresh flowers for indoors. This will also encourage more blooms on most Perennials. Dig up your Begonias now and bring them indoors as a houseplant. They will bloom all winter so you can use the cuttings outdoors next spring. Summer bulbs such as Dahlias, Gladioli, Tuberous Begonias and Cannas are not winter-hardy. These bulbs should be removed from the ground before the first night of frost. Shake off the excess soil and remove any damaged sections. Summer bulbs should first be allowed to dry out in a sheltered spot before storage. When they are dry, wrap them in old newspaper or put them in a crate and cover with dry peat moss, then move them to a frost-free place until it is time for replanting next spring.

Lawns This is a good time to lay turf for a new lawn,or sow grass seed. Don’t retire the lawn mower when the growth of your lawn slows down this autumn. As long as the grass continues to grow,it should be mowed.Areas of the lawn that get a lot of heavy traffic, such as children play areas often become very compressed which can cause problems with drainage, weeds and moss. You can help improve your lawn by pushing a garden fork into the ground as far as you can, then jiggle it backwards and forwards to create air pockets. Repeat this every (12in) across the lawn. Brush a sandy top dressing across the surface of the lawn so that it fills the holes, allowing air and water into the lawn - ready mixed bags can be bought from garden centres. On bigger lawns you could hire a powered aerating machine or use a hollow thinning tool that removes plugs of grass, which can be filled with top dressing. Both hand-held and powered versions are available to buy from garden centres or to hire.

Interval Training The Benefits...... ‘Interval training is a type of discontinuous physical training that involves a series of low to high-intensity exercise workouts interspersed with rest or relief periods’ thanks Wikipedia. It comes in many shapes and forms and has been around for some time now with good reason. Variety is the spice of exercise and with interval training you can play with rest/work ratios, exercise selection - the list goes on.There are many types of interval training, anything from sprinting versus jogging ie.sprint for 45 seconds, jog for 45secs or cycling pyramids using cadence versus intensity. Why choose interval training over the mundane steady state training that we see in most gyms. Simple it’s more interesting, more challenging and you get better results. It’s been proven time and time again that intervals are more effective at reducing body fat while maintaining muscle density (which is what we all want) more so than aerobic exercise, which does the opposite (decreasing muscle density and encouraging increased body fat). Interval training also improves blood pressure, insulin’s action, heart health and takes up much less time. It’s probably what most people need, it’s the kick up the you-know-what from doing the same routine week in,week out.Do you really train or do you just go to the gym? Be honest with your answers!

Of all the types of interval training my favourite has to be Tabata! I don’t want to marry her but she’s great fun and you will never forget your time with her. For clarity, let’s revisit what Japanese researcher Izumi Tabata said. His epic line was: “Six to eight very hard 20-second intervals with 10-second rest periods may be one of the best possible training protocols.” A Tabata workout looks like this: Work for 20 seconds Rest for 10 Work for 20 seconds Rest for 10 Work for 20 seconds Rest for 10 Repeat five more times. The whole thing only takes four minutes, but those will be the longest four minutes of your life! So Kettlebell swings (if you do them right) Swing for 20 seconds rest for 10 and repeat. If you feel like you just got a body shot off Katie Taylor and your hamstrings have you walking like ‘John get of your horse Wayne’ then you have just spent a few mins with Tabata. If not come see me and I will introduce the both of you! Is Tabata the hardest workout you’ll ever do? I wonder.

FETTERCAIRN Horse Project was started in mid-1995 with the principal objective of providing leadership and management in the care and ownership of horses for young people in Fettercairn and West Tallaght. A longer term objective is affording young people career prospects in the equine industry. At present the club represents some 35 horse owners with about 30 horses on site. Up until the mid 90’s horses ran free in this neighborhood and many families kept ponies and horses in their yards. It was then that the Control of Horses Act was introduced and families were required to stable their animals, something many families simply could not afford. Laurence McFerren, Project Manager with FHP having worked there for 11 years, says the club has come into existence because of some exceptional local people.

“Spearheaded by two inspired pioneers in this area, John Phelan and Noel Rochford, they, along with Tallaght Youth Services and other socially-minded individuals, raised the money to erect a state-of-the-art horse facility to house ponies,” he said. “It is now one of the most successful horse facilities in Dublin where individual riders and groups from local schools have been able to access training by properly qualified instructors, something that would not have been possible before”. In addition to riding instruction, Fettercairn also provides opportunities for social, personal, educational and vocational skills for local residents. The project now has a 20-stable facility on a seven acre site including an outdoor exercise arena and training rooms. Fettercairn thrives because it offers a high level of physical training and puts emphasis on care of the animals. The fact that graduates of the school have been so successful in working in the horse industry underscores this claim and thankfully Ireland is on the cusp of a major and much-needed expansion of its horse industry, both in show-jumping and racing. CLUB GOALS: The Fettercairn Youth Horse Project aims to develop opportunities for social, personal, educational, and vocational development among young people. It seeks to provide opportunity for young people to develop skills in animal welfare, stable management and horse riding as well as to develop employment opportunities for young people in the equine industry. The project runs group/local/private riding and stable management lessons that cater for all group types and needs. The Fettercairn Ranch Club allows local members/youths to visit the project daily and assist with the day-to-day activities and care of the horses/ponies.

McCabe’s free kick was directed back across goal by sub Billy Dennehy to Thomas Stewart who had just come onto the pitch. The striker had the simplest of tasks to knock the ball home inside the six-yard box with his first touch on the night for his first goal for Rovers since his recent signing.

Rovers win their first trophy of the season – Leinster Senior Cup Champions As we enter the final third of the season and the month of September, Shamrock Rovers has continued its recent good run of form, picking up its first trophy of the season. While it might only be the Leinster Senior Cup,the Hoops were still very happy to beat St Pats CY, from Ringsend, in the final. Stephen Kenny’s men have had only one defeat from the last 14 games. While that one loss was the highly disappointing 2-1 loss away to Ekranas in the Champions League qualifier, domestically they went unbeaten in July and August. The Hoops are doing everything in their

While his first was from only three yards, his second was from all of 30 yards as his sublime strike bounced off the underside of the crossbar and into the goal to seal the win. The 2-0 win qualified the Hoops for the quarter final against Shelbourne in Tolka Park with the game to be played, most likely, on Friday September 14.

Rovers ended August with back-to-back wins over Cork City. First up they eliminated the Leesiders from the FAI Cup. Thomas Stewart was the super sub for Shamrock Rovers in the cup game against Cork City. On a wet night in Tallaght Stadium, the Hoops were having difficulty breaking down a resolute City defence.Stephen Kenny’s substitutes combined for the opener on 70 minutes. Gary

BARBER & SHAVING PARLOUR

OSCAR JANNSON Swedish under 21 international Oscar Jannson has been Rovers’ number one goalkeeper this season The player came on loan from one of the teams Shamrock Rovers faced in the Europa League last year, Tottenham Hotspur. Rovers signed the player on a permanent deal midway through the year and that has coincided with a fine run of form from the keeper. The shoring up of the leaky Rovers defence from earlier in the season has meant that Rovers are finally showing some of the form that earned them the league title in the past two seasons and that is due to some impressive performances from the 21-year-old from Orebro. Jannson has had previous loan spells with Exeter City, Northampton Town and Bradford City, .

It had been a similar scoreline in the league the previous week when Rovers travelled to play second placed Drogheda United. United have been flying high all season but Rovers made it three wins out of three against Drogheda this season. It was 2-0 at half time with Ciarán Kilduff heading the opener for the Hoops from a Gary McCabe corner. Ronan Finn doubled the lead with a dipping shot from outside the box. September began for Shamrock Rovers with the 110th Leinster Senior Cup final. They took on St Patrick’s CY at Tallaght Stadium. Pat’s CY from the Leinster Senior League didn’t make it easy for the Airtricity League champions who only claimed the winner from Aaron Greene just seven minutes from time. It was in the final quarter that Rovers’quality showed as they really began to step up the pressure on the Leinster Senior League side with Rovers’fitness beginning to tell. Just as thoughts were turning to extratime, Rovers had the lead they so richly deserved. The ball was worked all the way across to Greene on the right hand side of the box and his right foot shot found the bottom corner of the net to win the game for Rovers. Captain Ken Oman lifted the trophy down on the pitch marking the 17th time the Hoops have won this competition.
