Hi Everyone, You’re all very welcome to Edition 30 of InTallaght Magazine.We hope we find you all in great form and that you all enjoy our third edition of 2013. As usual we have some great interviews for you in this issue.The main one is with 16 time World Darts Champion Phil “The Power” Taylor. We were lucky enough to spend some time with the legend that is Phil when he recently visited Dublin. He was full of chat and proved to be great company. The secondary interview is with Marc O’Neill, the new cast member of Tallafornia. Whatever you may think about reality TV, Marc is an interesting guy who has packed a lot of living into his young life. This edition’s Square Magazine features among other things photos and news about the recent Valentine’s Day Fashion Show held in the centre. There is also a children’s colouring competition with a family pass for the IMC Cinema up for grabs for the lucky winner.All the kids have to do is colour in 29, fill in their details and hand it in to the Customer Service Desk before the end of the week.We hope to make this type of competition a regular feature in the Square Magazine in the future. The Dublin Bikes Scheme to be expanded THE DUBLIN BIKES SCHEME is to be expanded with a grant of €2.6 million from the National Transport Authority.Following an announcement this month from the NTA it was revealed that the scheme is set for an expansion eastwards and westwards, from Heuston Station to Docklands. The move is part of a €43 million investment package to improve facilities for cyclists, pedestrians and public transport users in the Greater Dublin area. This are also plans to include a new cycle route from the Phoenix Park to The Point.Previously,the scheme was financed by international outdoor advertising company JC Decaux in return for the right to erect advertising units – incorporating public information – at locations in the city. “These projects are designed to encourage more people to leave the car at home and try out alternative forms of transport,” said Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar.“We want to make the city safer for walking and cycling, and improve the experience of using public transport.”
“The new cycle routes...across the Greater Dublin region should encourage more people to cycle to work, but many will also be attractive to tourists.” Growing numbers of people are cycling to work in the city centre, with an average of 8,000 commuters using bikes, compared to 5,000 in 2006. Alan Kelly, the public transport minister, said the investment was a reflection of the success of the scheme, which is among the most successful bike sharing schemes in the world. “This success needs to be built on.We have had more than five million journeys so far and many thousands of journeys are taken each day with more than 90,000 subscribers. Expanding this makes sense and will hopefully enhance the scheme significantly, with 59 additional stations and will be completed by 2014,” said the minister. “We are hoping to use Dublin as an example to get bike schemes into other cities and we are also engaging feasibility studies to see if similar schemes would work in Tallaght and Dun Laoghaire,” he added.

Tallaght lad playing for Terenure College HISTORY WAS made this week when the first ever Leinster Schools Rugby Senior Cup match was held in Tallaght. The home of Shamrock Rovers was the venue on Tuesday February 19 as Terenure College came up against Roscrea in the quarter final clash. Playing for Terenure was local man Tiarnán Creagh from Virginia Heights.On the day of his 18th birthday he lined out at tight head prop determined to help his school through to the quarter finals. This is Tiernán’s second season playing Senior Cup rugby, last year he starred as Terenure made it to the semi finals, only to be eventually beaten by Clongowes Wood College.

After he completes his studies in June,Tiarnán hopes to build a career in rugby and follow in the footsteps of current players Brian O’Driscoll, Gordon Darcy, Rob Kearney, Jonathon Sexton and Jamie Heaslip who all played in the Leinster Senior Cup during their school days.
He was hoping to help add to Terenure College’s impressive tally of ten Senior Cup wins, a record that sees them sit in third place in the overall standings in the history of the tournament behind Blackrock and Belvedere College. The Leinster Schools Rugby Senior Cup has been contested since 1887 and historically most matches have been held in Donnybrook with the final usually played at Lansdowne Road on St Patrick’s Day in front of crowds of up to 25/30,000. In the past many sports people in this country liked to knock rugby at schools level because of its alleged elitist nature. Thankfully that attitude is changing rapidly and many schools, which historically never played the game, are embracing it and making huge strides competitively. Unfortunately Cistercian College, Roscrea pulled off a shock 13-10 win over Terenure on this occasion but we wish the team better luck next year.!

Unfortunately the nerves got the better of Kevin and the man who has proved so deadly in front of goal was not so good on the oche and he was narrowly beaten.
Kevin runs an annual Darts Competition in St Judes GAA called the Paddy’s Day Invitational and has raised over 10k for the Children's Hospital in Crumlin over the last number of years.This year’s event takes place on March 17th and all are welcome to sample the atmosphere of tournament darts! The Arena at Tallaght celebrate 20 year anniversary THE NATIONAL BASKETBALL ARENA, as it was then known was officially opened on February 7 1993 by the then Taoiseach,Albert Reynolds.The Arena is one of five identical buildings worldwide designed by the American architect Dan Tully and its unusual design has made it a landmark at the Tallaght Junction of the M50 motorway. The Arena is Ireland’s largest indoor sporting arena, with permanent seating for 1,800 spectators and depending on the event the capacity to hold up to 3,000 people.The Arena is the home of Irish Basketball but was designed for all sporting activities.
Over the past 20 years the Arena has regularly transformed from a major sporting facility to an exam centre, a concert venue, a trade exhibition centre, conference venue, banqueting hall and dance competition venue to name but a few! A group of young local musicians have made a charity single which they hope will raise awareness of suicide in Ireland THE SINGLE Never Alone, which is in aid of Teen-Line, is the brainchild of Luke Clerkin and Gavin Doyle, both from Springfield. Some of the proceeds from the single will also go towards making memorials for Glen Haybyrne and Cormac Clare,two young local men who tragically took their own lives. The lyrics and music were written and arranged by Luke and Gavin while Sandra Jane Hyland, who is also from Springfield, arranged the vocals.There are between 15 and 30 other young musicians involved. InTallaght Magazine recently caught up with some of the group to find out more.
So how did the record come about? Luke Clerkin: I’ve worked for Teen-Line in the past.I went through depression myself and came out the other side so I wanted to help people who were going through the same problem.On Suicide Awareness Day last year I wrote the song, well a version of it.A couple of weeks later Glenn died and that impacted on me because I knew him. I brought the song to Gav and he had a chorus from another song he had written. Gavin Doyle: Luke came to me with the song as we’ve worked together in the past. We took what we had and mixed it together to make the bones of a song. Luke Clerkin: The lyrics were written to show those who are suffering in silence that they are not alone and that suicide is not the only escape. Along with Sandra, and their band mates, the lads went to Block C Studios where the soon to be released song was produced by Cian Donohue.
So do the group think enough is being done in the media to raise awareness of suicide?

Sandra Jane Hyland: No I think it’s completely hidden from the media. I don’t think people are fully aware of it.
Luke Clerkin: It’s starting to change; everyone is being awoken to the whole situation.
Do you think in 2013 things are more stressful for younger people? Luke: Yes, especially because of things like cyber bullying, I’ve been a victim of it myself, it’s horrific. Sandra: It’s almost the norm now. Someone can go onto Facebook and be subjected to horrible abuse;I’ve seen it happen.
Why are young people doing this to each other? Sandra: Because they can. Also I suppose because of jelousy,which is a horrible thing.People just want to put you down. I don’t think the problem is taken seriously enough, it’s a crime.You can be stopped by the Garda for having no tax yet people are able to abuse other people on line, it’s ridiculous. Marian Shanley West from Butterfly 3 Revolution, an organisation that works on creating positive change and awareness around bullying/cyberbullying, depression, mental health issues and suicide through the use of art and music,is helping the group get their message out there.
Luke: I’m an ambassador for Teen-Line and it annoys me when I meet young people who have never heard of it. It’s a wonderful service, they are so helpful.I’ve recently met with See Change Ireland to chat about the Never Alone Campaign; we are going to be working a lot together in the next few months to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health issues.I also met with Spunout last week and they're on board as well.We’ve been asked to perform the single at Glen Haybyrne's Benefit Night on the 1st of March in the Citywest Hotel. Engineers Week returns to Tallaght SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL in collaboration with Engineers Ireland, will launch Engineers Week 2013 at RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre on Monday February 25 at 11.00 a.m.

Four friends putting the fun in fundraising Four local friends have banded together to help raise funds for four different charities that are close to each of their hearts. Ashling Murphy told InTallaght they have been friends since childhood and that they try and do some fundraising every year. This year, they are planning to do a sponsored sky dive in Offaly at the end of March, jumping into the unknown all in aid of their favourite charities.Ashling herself is fundraising for ISPCC, Pamela O'Connell for Pieta House, Susie O'Connell for The Friends Of St Lukes and lastly Áine O'Neill for Mental Health Ireland. They are organising a fundraising evening in The Old Mill on Saturday March 2, starting at 8pm. Entrance to The Harvest Room (upstairs in The Old Mill) will set you back €5 and for that you'll get a great night's entertainment as well as a goody bag with some secret 'well wishing gifts' and also some info about the 4 different charities.The girls say there will be all the usual food, entertainment and raffle and spot
prizes but they also have a few little surprises in store and some great stuff up for auction. "All will be revealed on the night." Rovers draw Linfield in Sentanta Sports Cup FOLLOWING Ciaran Kilduff’s dramatic stoppage time winner against Coleraine the draw for the next round of the Setanta Cup threw up a real glamour tie as the two most successful teams on the island of Ireland were paired together.
On that occasion it was the men from the North who went through on away goals following a 1-1 draw at Glenmalure Park.They had previously drawn 0-0 at Windsor Park in the 1st leg.
Linfield are the current champions of the IFA Premiership and will pose a significant challenge for The Hoops. Even though the defence of their title isn’t going to plan (they currently lie in 3rd place 14 points behind leaders Clintonville), Rovers will have to be at their best to make it through to the semi finals.
The two-legged quarter-final ties are set for the 4th and 11th of March with Rovers at home in the 1st leg.
This will be the first time the two sides have met since October 1984 when they were drawn together in the last 16 of the European Cup.

The phenomenon that is Phil Taylor recently became the World Darts Champion for the 16th time in his illustrious career. 23 years on from his first world title he continues to be at the top of his game InTallaght Magazine caught up with the legend for a chat on his recent visit to Dublin.
No never. When I was young I was just a natural at it really, I did every sport there was, I was OK at football but not to professional standard. I was a very good cricketer, a good bowler, but darts was just something I was able to play well. I was a late starter at it though, I did it to earn a living.If I wasn’t able to earn a living at it I wouldn’t have played it.
You went into the 1990 World Championship as a 125-1 unseeded outsider, did you have any money on yourself?
No I didn’t but my wife did. She’d put the mortgage on me, she never told me either! 40 quid a month the mortgage was then, if I hadn’t won the World Championship we wouldn’t have been able to pay the mortgage. And I was on the dole. I’d taken voluntary redundancy so for 3 months I had to sign on, I needed that money to travel and I couldn’t really take a job as I knew I had the World Championships coming up. I won it on the Sunday then I went in on the Thursday to sign on and he went “You can f*ck off, get out of it you’re not having any more dole money!” And I said“No I’ve come in tell you I won’t be coming in here again.Ta ra”!
Seeing as you’re over in Ireland Phil, why do you think this country hasn’t produced any Eric Bristow,who you beat in the world champion darts players? 1990 final,was your mentor.Is it true that he was also your sponsor? That’s a good question, I think it’s down to money really, it’s tough for the lads over here to get the money to go travelling around the world from sponsorship.You’re beginning to get players now though. Some good players coming through from Ireland, Brendan Dolan’s doing quite well, young Willy’s done ok. I don’t think you’ve got enough competition at the minute to produce world champions but they’re learning quick. It’s encouraging; you’ll get there.
You seem to have a good relationship with nearly all other players, how do you maintain this?
I don’t like them! No they’re all right. You do fall out now and again but that’s normal, nothing serious though.When you’re working with them week in week out you tend to not fall out really.
Was there ever a time when you realised you could and would dominate the sport?
Yes he’d sponsored me on the condition that I paid him back, I think it was about £8,000, so the first £8,000 I won he took it off me! Then after that I was on bonus. I remember I’d won a tournament and after he took what he was owed he went:“Right you’ve paid me, now you’re on bonus, whatever you earn now is yours.” I was like“YES! Come on!” I went from having £4 a week pocket money to having thousands, it was a wonderful feeling as you can imagine.
Did he take his defeat well?
No he f*cking didn’t! He didn’t speak to me for 6 months after it! Miserable bastard!
Who has been your toughest opponent?
There’s been a few. I’ve come up against some great players but Dennis Priestly was the best. There’s a few good ones about now but none as consistent as Dennis was. Myself and Dennis battled it out for 10 years really.

better than when you burst onto the scene in 1990?
I wouldn’t say it’s better, it’s just there’s more good players. When I was beginning there was maybe four people who could win the World Championship now there’s probably ten people who can win it.
You can’t though can ya?! I was just describing how it’s very hard to recreate the conditions, the tension, the pressure of playing in a big match in front of a massive crowd. It’s like practicing for a penalty shoot out in football. I enjoy all the crowd roaring and shouting though, if you’re playing well it doesn’t bother you. If you’re playing shit though it does your head in then cause you get all the“Come on Phil!”With the nerves though it’s just experience,you get used to it,you say to yourself “I’ve been here before.” That was the difference in the World Final this year, I knew he’d start thinking about it.Most players come out flying mentally,it’s like in football when the big teams play the small teams, they do OK up to about 80 mins then they start thinking about it, that’s when they get beaten. It’s the same a lot of the time in darts.
Is there much sledging in the game and how frequently As you’ve gotten does it happen? older have you noticed any changes in yourself physically? Yeah all the time! They can say daft things but it doesn’t work on me though. Remember Kim Huybrechts? I played him at the world pairs and I’d already beat his brother, Kim had just beat Adrian (Lewis) and his brother was playing Adrian and we were practicing back stage and he said “If my brother beats Adrian I’m gonna smash you to pieces, ya know that don’t ya!” And I just said, “Nah, no you’re not, you’re not good enough.The bad thing for you is I’m gonna smash you to pieces!”Most of the time it’s a good laugh really, we all take the piss out of each other. Adrian Lewis is bottom of the Premier League so when I see him I just start singing The only way is up!
Yeah I get tired now, travelling kills me. It’s only really been for the last two or three years that I’ve noticed it. I’m going to have to start slowing down but I seem to be getting busier. Like this week I’ve had three days over here then I have to meet a crew from CBS tomorrow.They’re making a big documentary about me for America which is going to be massive. Then on Tuesday I’m on Question Of Sport, Wednesday I’ve to get a train to Bournemouth for the Premier League, Thursday play in Premier League, Friday back and then God knows what after that! I bought a couple of holiday homes so I’m going to try and go away more, I can’t keep going like this, no way.
and there’ll be like 500 people in the lobby waiting for me! It’s great though the people over here are lovely. I’ve been coming over here for 30 years, I’ve been to every single bit of Ireland and I love it. Because I’ve been coming here for so long I’ve seen all the changes in this country.
Do you see MichaelVan Gerwen emulating your success?
No I don’t think he can.He can’t emulate me because I won the first World Championship I was in; Michael didn’t so he can’t emulate me.To win 16 World Championships you need to play in about 20 finals.Will he last 20 years? I don’t think he will. I’ve probably got about a thousand titles; he won’t be able to do that.He’s good but I don’t think he will emulate me,I don’t think anybody will.I’ve been top for 20 odd years.
If you could play anyone from any era who would it be? Jesus! I’d ask him some tips!
Anyone else? Me dad.
Sky’s coverage has Is he any good? taken darts coverage to a new level, Did he play when he how do you feel was alive? What are your plans about the changes for when you retire they’ve introduced? from darts? Sky have absolutely brilliant for darts. My earnings have gone from about £70/80,000 a year to £3 million a year, that’s the difference. I think they’re doing a fantastic job. I love all the close ups of the fans with the funny hats and costumes.Without the fans we wouldn’t have these great spectacles, they make it what it is.
One of your most famous quotes is “You can’t practice sh*tting yourself?” Could you explain what it means to our readers?
I’ve got a lot of properties that I rent out so I’ll probably work at that. I’ll probably also manage players, I keep getting asked to do that.I’ll do TV, I regularly get asked to do a lot of TV programmes.I’ll probably do The Jungle,Come Dancing, stuff like that. I’ll have a go at anything if the moneys right!
You’ll be playing a Premier League game here in Dublin this April in the O2 do you get a good reception here?
Oh yeah I do, it’s always buzzing.Belfast is noisy but Dublin’s even nosier. It’s mad, I’ll step out of a lift in a hotel in Dublin
No he’s dead!
Yes my Mother and Dad both played darts. Everyone in Stoke used to play darts. When I was a kid there was no tellies so we did other stuff. I was good at darts, my Dad’s team were the best in the league, used to win everything, and I used to go down and play them when I was a kid and I used to beat them easy. I was only about 12 and I used to say to them“How come you lot keep winning all the time?” He was dead quiet though my Dad, my Mother used to have a row with him to get him to talk! He was very proud of me though.
What would you have been if you hadn’t been a darts player?
A gynecologist but I wasn’t tall enough! I don’t really know what I’d do to be honest with you. I’d probably be in the building trade.
What other sports do you enjoy?

I like watching most sports really. I live on a golf course but I don’t get time to play! I love watching the football, Port Vale is my team.I don’t go to many matches though,I rather watch it on the telly because if I go I get pestered, sign this, sign this and I end up missing most of the match.
Were you ever offered money to fix a match? Me, no never, I swear on the bible.
Do you think match fixing has happened in darts?
I’ve been a bit suspect of some matches down the years but it’s never been proven. I could have made a few bob myself down the years but I didn’t need to,I earned enough money from winning.
Are any of your four children good at darts?
No they’re rubbish! As soon as they know I’ve won its“Dad? Can I have a car?” My daughter Lisa is like my secretary, she does everything for me, she runs my life really so she deserves to get a new car!
What’s the craziest entrance you’ve ever seen from a darts player?
This Irish lad I was playing once, he came tanking into the room on a motorbike straight up to the stage, slammed on the brakes and then f*ckin’summersaulted off the bike and landed on his feet! Mental bastard!

Finally Phil what advice would you have for any young darts players starting out?
Dedication. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. It’s all about practice and dedication.When I was starting out I was still working so I used to get in from work and I’d probably do a couple of hours practice, even if I was knackered. I’d still get up and do it. I’d be falling asleep but I’d just do it.You’ve got to do it even when you don’t feel like it. I’d probably still do about an hour and a half a day now, I can’t really improve anymore so I just keep topping up. It just comes down to experience now.

What do your fellow students in Maynooth think of it all? They love it! They’re all milking it as well.Like the other day we were trying to get into The Roost and the bouncers were saying it was full and we couldn’t come in.Then they spotted me and ushered us all in.They call me Ronseal and Nutella. Apparently I look like Nutella.
Is it true that you were in the Army? Yes it is, I joined when I was 17 and was in the army for 5 years. I loved it, the lads were amazing. I served in the 2nd Field Artillery Regiment; I did a tour of peace keeping in Liberia. I was the exact same then I was I am now. I used to turn up for parade with fake tan on – the lads all thought I was either gay or a weirdo! They used to call me Gunner G String!
Marc O’Neill is the newest addition to the cast of Tallafornia
If you don’t mind me asking how did you, with your personality, end up in the army?! My Granddad Hugh O Neill said to me“You’re an immature little f*cker, join the army!” He reckoned it would do me good.He’s a military man and he was a champion boxer.He was the first Irishman to win The Café Royale Diamond Belt. He fought loads of legendary boxers like Floyd Patterson back in the day.
What did you do after leaving the army? I went and did an access course then I got a job in Manchester working in a lab. I had done well in my Leaving and I was interested in going on to further study. At the moment I’m in my second year of Organic Chemistry and Bio Chemistry in Maynooth.
How’s college life treating you? I love it; I literally never want to leave college.I’ve got some great friends; we help each other out with study and that. One of my friends I have to mention is Clare Colleran from Tubbercurry in Sligo. She’s my buddy; she’s run off her feet she’s so busy with everything, yet she looks after me.They love coming out with me because they get treated like celebrities.It’s a lovely feeling to share with them and to see them enjoy themselves.
What do you want to do after you finish college? I want to go to Australia and be a science teacher. I’ve no interest in being rich. I had loads of money before and I wasn’t happy.I worked as a personal trainer before making great money but I wasn’t happy.I couldn’t understand why the people I was training didn’t want to train as hard as me. I couldn’t give a rats about money.
What else do you do to make ends meet?
Was your experience How has the public the army a reaction been towards in positive one? you since the show What do you like went on air? to do to relax?
I work as a stripper in nightclubs, none of that stripogram sh*te, I do fire breathing and stuff. I love it, it suits me down to the ground because I love attention and I’m mental handsome!
It’s been great, I’m absolutely loved! 99% of people tell me I’m a hero or a legend, which is hilarious because they don’t even know me. About 1% don’t like me, so they go on Twitter and say“You’re gay!”or“You’re f*ckin’orange”- s#*t like that. Idiots. I couldn’t give a s#*t if someone thinks I’m gay or they don’t like my tan, why would I?
Absolutely,I owe everything I got from the army.It gave me discipline and I discovered that I was definitely a leader.My corporals and sergeants were like father figures to me. My corporal at the time, he’s now Sergent Paul Tiernan, even taught me how to shave. When I was 21 as well! I’d recommend the army to any kids aged 17 to 22 who don’t know what they want to do. I see a lot of kids now, Dublin kids, and they’re hanging around not even looking for a career.
I love going to the gym and training.I do a bit of boxing, just in the gym as I got sick of being hit in the face. You can’t have the best looking bloke out there being hit in the face! I used to do a lot of kickboxing. I was the ICBA champion. I beat a lad from Mayo in my title fight then I retired!

You’ve done so much with your life already, where do you get the energy?! One of my best friends was killed in a car crash a year and a half ago. His name was Gyorgy Covacz he was the loveliest guy you could meet. He was a real healthy guy who looked after himself really well. He was in the back seat of the car. He wasn’t wearing his seat belt properly and he was thrown out of the car through the window. It was devastating. He was found 50 metres up the road. To be honest I know it sounds cheesy but when he died my life changed.I decided I was going to live for both of us because he missed out on so much living.
How do you get on with your Tallafornia co-stars? I get on well with them.We’re all weirdos! Myself Dave,Kelly and Philly are doing a charity night together on Valentines in the Wright Venue in aid of Lilly Mae, the little girl who lost her charity money from HMV recently. Myself and Nat are just mates now, it was just a holiday romance. I go out a good bit with Philly. He’s such a nice lad and he gets an awful lot of shit off people which isn’t deserved. It’s only a tv show, it’s not real.And he can pull really! Cormac is a lovely lad as well.
Are you still single? Yes I am, very much so. I had a girlfriend for 5 years and we broke up last year.We’re still best mates.Her name is Karina Kennedy, she’s from Springfield. We go clubbing together, it’s so much easier now. I don’t want a girlfriend. I’m not for settling ladies!
Finally Marc how would you describe yourself to someone who didn’t know you? This is my story. Two mythical beasts; a unicorn, my Mum and a dragon, my Da, got together and had a baby phoenix with issues. The phoenix then fell into a volcano and got burned and from the ashes, from the brimstone I came!

We also announced this month that The Square are one of the sponsors of The Gathering Dublin 2013. We are delighted to be involved and to work in conjunction with South Dublin Tourism on what we hope will be a very memorable national event. A Massive Crowd Turned Up To The Square On Valentine’s Day For The First Fashion Show Of The Year. Models from one of Irelands’ leading agencies Assets strutted the catwalk as they modeled clothes for the Spring/Summer collection 2013 all available from stores in the centre including Debenhams, Dunnes Stores, Carraig Donn,H&M,A-Wear,New Look,Direct Sports and Lollie & George with accessories provided by Newbridge Silverware and hair by Peter Mark.
Models Sarah Morrissey, Lynn Kelly, Corina Grant, Aoife Cogan Darcy and Matthew John all brought glamour and style to the proceedings.
The aim of the event was to showcase the latest trends available in The Square and let people know that all they need can be found here.

OUR LATEST LITTLE STARTJ,TAKING AWELL DESERVED REST FROM ALL HIS MEDIA ATTENTION
We’d Like You To Meet Our Little Friend & Next Little Star TJ. He is a very brave little boy that suffers from a rare and severe form of epilepsy called 'Infantile Spasms'. An infantile spasm is a specific type of seizure seen in an epilepsy syndrome of infancy and childhood known as West Syndrome. West Syndrome is characterized by infantile spasms,developmental regression,and a specific pattern on electroencephalography (EEG) testing called hypsarrhythmia (chaotic brain waves). The seizures primarily consist of a sudden bending forward of the body with stiffening of the arms and legs and dropping his head forward.This makes it extremely hard for Tj to try walk as at any moment he could fall forward. He has over 100 seizures a day. We recently spoke with Tj’s Dad Tony and he told us that they received great news from the surgeons in the States. Tony told InTallaght, “We are flying out to Detroit on Friday22nd February.He is being admitted to the hospital there on Sunday 24th February for further testing and
the work up for surgery. He will then have a couple of weeks of tests with the neurologists and the surgeon”. Tony added,“His first surgery is planned for 7th March. If all goes well he will have a 2nd surgery on 13th March. In order for him to get this operation all the medical people have to agree to it. There has been loads of support for Tj in the community, with loads of fundraisers and sports events taking place. Ourselves at The Square have entered a team to compete in the upcoming 5-a-side Tournament taking place in the Postal Club on the Kiltipper Road. Tj’s Pharmacist, Jennifer from Doc Morris braved the freezing cold waters recently and jumped into the 40 foot out in Dun Laoighaire and in doing so helped raise over €500.Well done Jennifer! There is so many more events going helping to raise funds for Tj’s medical expenses.The whole community have really come together to help this brave little boy. Moyle Park Students Relive History Here At The Square! Clondalkin had a long and proud history of paper making which spanned over 100 years until the mill finally closed in 1987. The students of Moyle Park college relived that history on a recent visit to the Creative Campus on Level 3 here in The Square.
Chloe Brenan and her colleagues from NCAD led over 30 of the boys in the art of Paper making, they completed the process from start to finish and the fruits of their labour can be seen hanging on the windows of the Creative Campus.This was the first in a series of visits planned by the Creative Campus in conjunction with the Tallaght Arts Council and judging by the enthusiasm shown it will be a great success.

Ralph(John C. Reilly) finds himself doing a job he doesnt have much love for anymore; he feels under appreciated and wishes that for once he could get a medal for his good work You see Ralph is the anti-hero from the arcade game Fix-It Felix Jr.He is programmed to destroy and wreck the building while Felix Jnr jumps around with his magic hammer repairing the damage that Ralph has created. Ralph, fed up with his role in the gaming world, decides to defy the rules and attempt to win a medal in another game in the hopes that his peers will celebrate with him and for once see him as the hero and not the villian. Ralph’s quest firstly lands him in a‘Halo-style’game called Heros Duty where he pretends to be one of the super soldiers, and from there he ends up in the very cute, very pink world of Sugar Rush, a fast paced cartoon style racing game similar the the classic Super Mario Kart. It is here that Ralph meets the quick witted,spirited character Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman), a 9 year old wannabe racer who is banished from the game by Candy King for being a ‘glitch’. Ralph and Vanellope find themselves getting into some sticky situations, with great comical effect and also the odd heartwarming moment.You can't but help want to see the pair do well, reach their goals and become the characters they yearn to be.
This film has some fantastic graphics, fast paced action and never leaves you bored waiting for the next exciting scene. It's a great movie for both boys and girls but I also think a lot of the parents will also enjoy it as it's quite nostalgic seeing some of the characters that we would have played with or against back in the day. I can see Disney milking this movie going on and having a few sequels similar to the Toy Story franchise but I can't see where the story can go from here to be honest.So,if you're like me and still enjoy Disney animated movies I'd highly recommendgoing to see Wreck It Ralph. Before McClane heads off his daughter gives him a copy of The Idiot's Guide to Moscow, when a copy of Blood Soaked in Moscow would have been more appropriate! He’s not off the plane five minutes when he is attacked by Russian mobsters. He is only there to bail his son out after all. Little does McClane know that his son is a chip off the old block, working for the CIA and on a mission
I did like an early chase scene that piles up an astonishing amount of vehicular mayhem, and there's a visual thing at the end of the opening credits: the screen appears to have been blasted with bullet holes ,that is effective.

Murs does it again The last few years have proven that the runners up of the X Factor UK have in most cases gone on to be more successful than the actual winners of the show. Olly Murs who came second to Joe McElderry in 2009 has topped the UK and Irish charts along with presenting the after show of the X Factor.
Justin Timberlake has finally decided to take a break from acting and head back to his first love: the music business Many young people may have already forgotten that Timberlake even had a singing career before he ventured into the world of acting. He married the beautiful Jessica Biel last year and has now decided to release his first studio album since 2006,which he has described as“the best stuff” he’s ever done. Timbaland evidently had a huge influence on the song choices of the album and Timberlake could not be more effusive in his praise of the producer, saying that they share a “unique” relationship which made new record The 20/20 Experience so special. The new album also sees a collaboration with Jay Z for Suit & Tie.This will without a shadow of doubt be a number one single for the pair.Although it’s very“classical Justin”it works really well with Jay Z adding a mix up to the flow of the song. Probably the most run of the mill JT song on the album is the song Mirrors yet I have to hand it to him. He pulls it off.
So it was only a matter of time before Mr Murs was back on our airways.His new single Army of Two follows the track Troublemaker which peaked at number one on the singles tally for two weeks last year.The song is to be released this month from his album Right Place Right Time. Murs has been keeping his Facebook and Twitter account updated over the past few weeks with behind the scenes photos and videos of the new video which seems to be set in a train station. It’s his vintage sound that makes that song another possible chart topper.I must compliment Timberlake on his decision to stuck to his old style, rather than trying to radically reinvent himself.which may have been tempting for his big comeback. The success of his old sound may be due to the fact that he hasn’t been on the scene for over seven years. There are 10 songs on this new album. JT has said“My new songs will remind people of the kind of singer I always was but there are a few shake ups.” The star went on to explain that his record feels complete and that although its only 10 songs long, that doesn’t mean its short.“It’s not so much a narrative or a story, but sonically we really made it to listen to from top to bottom”. He continued:“I was just like,let’s make some music without all the hoopla of,like expectations.Let’s just make something that feels genuine from us”. Overall I think the album will do quite well across the board. Girls will be delighted to see Timberlake back and with the influence of both Timbaland and Jay Z there is even something there for the lads.

There's 8GB of storage,a micro SD slot for adding up to 32GB more, plus micro USB and mini HDMI ports. You also get a front-facing 2MP camera which can be used for Skype video chats as well as self potraits,and a pair of speakers on the rear. Zooming in on your city creates a lack of focus around the edges of your screen, perfectly recreating the tilt shift technique.It gives everything a kind of twee appearance,which is a great look for a game built around playing god in a toy city. This version of SimCitywill be the first to feature full online play since Maxis's SimCity 2000 Network Edition,allowing for regions to house multiple cities from different players.Regions can alternatively be set to private for solo play. Kip Katsarelis, lead producer of the new SimCity said: "We have definitely emphasized co-op, so from the ground up, this has been a multiplayer game.But it’s really tailored to the experience you want,so when you go and set up your city or region,you can set it to public or private.If you set it to private,you can go ahead and play single-player by yourself." Sly Coopermakes you wonder why platform games aren’t more popular The game, set in a world populated by anthropomorphic animals,follows from the end of Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves. Sly Cooper, a raccoon from a long line of master thieves, will need to reunite with his gang to locate and recover the Thievius Raccoonus, a book chronicling the Cooper family line that has been lost within time. The player controls Sly, Bentley, Murray, Carmelita Fox, and Sly's ancestors, using their skills to pull off heists and reveal who has tampered with the Cooper history. Like previous games in the series,players primarily control Sly Cooper, who must sneak around and navigate various obstacles to help restore the history of the Thievius Raccoonus. Many of Sly's abilities return,such as navigating poles and ropes, jumping across narrow platforms and stealing items from guards.New to this game are costumes earned throughout the course of the game, which give Sly access to new abilities. The plot of Thieves in Time is a bit silly, resembling a Saturday morning cartoon in terms of substantive value. It's a fun game, with clever

Yet you have to ask yourself if the only con I can spot is the bland design of a dashboard then you must be onto a good thing with the new Corolla.

Irish tech invents teen health therapy Irish technology company, SilverCloud, has invented a pioneering new online‘e-therapy' programme to help teens with self esteem issues.The new SeeMySelf programme has been launched by Bodywhys - the Eating Disorders Association of Ireland - to support teenagers with selfesteem issues and to help prevent these developing into eating disorders or other related psychological problems. The launch of SeeMySelf marks the first time in the world that this type of 'e-therapy' has been introduced for young people with eating disorders. The programme has been developed for Bodywhys by SilverCloud Health, which is an Irish technology company specialising in computerised therapeutic/wellness programmes that healthcare professionals and organisations use to provide care and support to patients and clients.

Irish animators win Kids Emmy Award Irish animation company Boulder Media have won the Kids Animation Award at the inaugural International Emmy Kids Awards, which took place on Friday. The Dublin-based firm, which was founded in 2000, picked up the prize for its production of The Amazing World of Gumball.
The Amazing World of Gumball combines 2D and 3D animation in a live-action setting,and follows the misadventures of 12-year old Gumball and his family. Featuring a stellar cast of characters,Gumball's school friends include a tyrannosaurus rex, a cheerleading peanut, and a banana. Boulder's Creative director and founder, Robert Cullen, spoke after the win: "We're over the moon with the Emmy and are very proud to be part of such

RTE & Betfair in TV first InVision ads RTE and Betfair have announced a two year exclusive deal that will see the betting company run their TV ads 'In-Vision' across 46 days of televised Irish racing on the national broadcaster. The ads, which air during the program itself, first appeared on screen during the recent Leopardstown Christmas Festival and are a first for an advertiser on RTE Television. The activity will cover all RTE Racing coverage including major festivals in Punchestown and Galway plus the Irish Classics from the Curragh during the Flat Season. Split-screen is where the content of a programme is shrunk into part of the screen for a period where the viewer can continue to view it but the other part of the screen plays a commercial, before the screen is again returned to its full size and the programme continues.

Social Entrepreneurs Ireland (SEI) has half a million euro in new funds for Ireland's brightest and most ambitious emerging entrepreneurs as part of its 2013 Awards programme.
Over the last seven years SEI has supported 161 social entrepreneurs,investing €4.9 million in their projects and provided significant additional supports.These in turn have directly impacted over 200,000 people across Ireland and created over 800 employment opportunities in the process.

Applications for the awards programme have already exceeded 2012 levels, when SEI received over 200 applications.These were put forward by entrepreneurs with game-changing ideas to solve the social problems facing Ireland and SEI is now looking for a new batch of applicants. This year SEI will provide €500,000 in funding to eight social entrepreneurs, as well as a further €250,000 in professional consultation and support.This will ensure the entrepreneurs are equipped to scale and grow their businesses, and positively impact as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.

Aer Arann plan to double passenger numbers in the next 5 years Irish regional airline, Aer Arann, has unveiled an ambitious plan to double its passenger numbers within five years and join Europe's top tier of regional airlines by 2015. It added that it is extending its franchise agreement with Aer Lingus until 2022.The airline also confirmed a 32% rise in Aer Lingus Regional passenger numbers in 2012, with total passenger growth of 16pc in the past two years. Announcing a 'new beginning' at the airline, Sean Brogan, Interim Chief Executive, Aer Arann outlined a package of measures to grow its customer base and route network. Starting this Summer, Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Aer Arann will add two new routes to its network, Dublin Birmingham and Dublin Manchester. The addition of these routes, two of the busiest on the Ireland to UK network, will
increase passenger numbers by 300,000 and bring the airline's route network to 24.Combined with existing Aer Lingus mainline services to Manchester and Birmingham, these new services will result in a significant ramping up of frequencies to two of the busiest routes on the Ireland to UK network, it said. The airline is also to increase frequencies on its Dublin Edinburgh and Dublin Glasgow routes. "These new routes connect us with two of the UK's largest cities and means that for the first time, the airline is servicing all of the main UK destinations from Ireland. These new routes will add over 120,000 passengers to our network this year, and it is our aim to increase this to 300,000 passengers by the end of next year."

Asian-American relations and reminiscences I first noticed Beautiful As Yesterday because of its very attractive cover, which subtly blends traditional Chinese motifs such as the paper parasols held by two female figures wearing what look to be traditional Chinese dresses called cheongsam with a transparent American flag in the foreground. What made me buy the book was a quote on the front from Amy Tan that read ‘A story with intelligence, insight, and heart’. I have read several of Amy Tan’s novels and really enjoyed them, so I took her word for it! I feel I learnt more about Chinese culture and attitudes, as well as the history of the country and its people than I have from any other novel I’ve ever read. That’s not to say it is bogged down in dry historical details.We learn what things were like for the three main characters,living in China during turbulent times through their thoughts,feelings and memories and it is by no means a conventional potted history. Guo-Mei, which means ‘China is beautiful’, now calls herself Mary and is the elder of the two sisters. Guo-Ying, which means ‘China is outstanding’, now calls herself Ingrid.These two sisters grew up in Communist China and have since emmigrated to The United States. Mary moved to the States first and helped to support her younger sister through accounting school when she followed several years later.Ingrid seems the exact opposite in personality to her big sister.Mary is married with one son and is settled in a big house in the suburbs of San Francisco. Ingrid is a free spirit who lives in New York with no permanent job and no real ties to anyone or anything.
causes tensions between the couple which adds to Mary’s stress about her mother’s arrival.There is an interesting scene when she goes to meet her mother off the plane and automatically greets her in the American way,with a big hug.This isn’t the way things are done in China and it makes her mother uncomfortable and makes Mary embarassed about having become so Americanised. The sisters are basically estranged at the start of the novel and it is lovely to see the way they become close again, by spending time with their mother and by speaking about their shared experiences in the past and how they each felt about them at the time. While the sisters still feel a little out of place in America, Fenglan is really a fish out of water.She doesn’t speak English and has to rely on Mary to translate for her constantly; she can’t drive and all her friends are back in China. The real highlight of her trip to America is being near her grandson Alex. He is taking Mandarin classes and becomes very close to her during her stay. She is torn between her desire to return to China and to stay in America and be close to him and her daughters. There is a lot Mary and Ingrid don’t know about their past and also about each other and the way Fan Wu slowly gives little clues that explain the narratives of all of their lives makes for a very good story. It is really interesting to see a culture that we are so familiar with, America, through the eyes of immigrants from a totally different, Communist country. In this, Fan Wu is writing from experience and it shows.It is obvious that Wu knows both cultures inside and out.Beautiful As Yesterday explores what it means to belong and the themes of family and friendship, love and loss.
About The Author The third main character is that of their mother Fenglan, a state factory retiree,who still lives in the city where the girls grew up. Their father has died a few years before, leaving their mother alone in the flat they once shared.The start of the novel sees Mary getting ready for their mother’s arrival to The United States, on an extended visa, with a view to her moving there permanently. Mary’s sense of duty to her aging mother thinks that it is only right that Fenglan moves in with her and her American born husband Bob. Bob may look Chinese on the outside but he’s much more American than Mary. He was born and raised in the U.S., in a very different culture. He doesn’t even speak Mandarin, which means Mary has to speak her second language even at home. Bob is a good man but he just doesn’t really seem to ‘get’ the Chinese ways that are so important to Mary.The prospect of Fenglan eventually living with them full time
Fan Wu was born on a state-run labor farm in mainland China, where her parents were exiled during the Cultural Revolution. In 1985, her family left the farm and settled in Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi Province. In the mid-90s, after graduating with a bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature, she went to work in Shenzhen. In 1997, a scholarship from Stanford University brought her to America, and after earning an MA in Mass Media Studies, she joined Yahoo!, where she worked for more than seven years before devoting herself to writing. She started to write in 2002. Her debut novel, February Flowers, was chosen by Picador Asia as its inaugural book and it has been translated into eight languages. She writes in both English and Chinese, and often translates her own writing between the two languages. She currently lives in northern California.

This is a really common skin type. First I would try and pick the correct cleanser which doesn't dry out your skin.I find the Tourmaline Charged Cleanser from Aveda really good for combination skin.
Powder really does help make your foundation last longer but it will really depend on your skin type and the finished makeup look you want. If you have dry or dehydrated skin, like me, I would suggest a mineral powder. MAC has a great one, it is a satin finish which leaves your skin looking great. If you want a fuller coverage power you should try the Studio Fix power for that flawless finish.
For your moisturiser I would suggest you look for one for combination skin, one that isn't too heavy but that will still keep the skin hydrated. You can also try an oil-free moisturiser and a serum. In general, serums penetrate the skin 70% more than moisturiser alone so that which could help combat the dry patches on your skin.

Method: 1. Dice all fish and place in refrigerator. 2. Sauce- Fry all your vegetables, add flour to all your vegetables and mix it up.Add a glass of white wine, fish stock and cream. 3. Place sauce on top of fish in a bowl with vegetables. 4. Bake for 10 minutes at 170 degrees. 5. Remove from oven and add parmesan cheese and bread crumbs and return to oven for a further 5 minutes. Served with a nice tossed salad and a glass of Pinot Giorgio white wine.

It is a good time to start off the slower-growing halfhardy annuals and perennials.Pelargonium,begonia can be easy to grow from seed if you have a warm window sill or some heat in a glasshouse. Some seed may take two to three weeks to germinate, which will bring you into March when the days will be getting longer. Sow seeds of broad beans and sweet peas in a cold greenhouse or outdoors in a cold frame with some protection. Buddleia and summer-flowering clematis can be pruned, pruning last year’s growth to within a couple of buds of the old wood. Prune height to about 3 ft from ground and it will help retrain clematis on to their support. Hydrangeas can also be deadheaded now by taking the old flowering heads back to a new pair of shoots. Prune winter-flowering shrubs that have finished flowering.Prune wisteria if plants show signs of dieback after a hard winter. The best time to check is in early spring when new growth starts, though some plants start into growth later than others,so make sure the stem is really dead before you prune it. Scrape a small piece of the bark off with your thumbnail or a coin. If the stem underneath is greenish in colour it might be OK, if brown it might be dead. The stems of deciduous shrubs, such as hardy fuchsias, may die back completely and may take longer to restart growing, so do not be too quick to discard the plant,since it should re-grow from healthy buds lying sheltered underground. At the end of the growing season make sure the roots are well covered with a layer of leaves or compost or bark mulch. Divide clumps of perennials. Cut back winter flowering shrubs as they finish flowering. Clean, oil and sharpen
tools. You can start to prune clematis. Clematis fall into one of three basic categories early flowered such as Montanas, early large-flowered hybrids such as Nelly Moser and those flowering after midsummer such as Clematis Jackmanii.
Prune acer and birch trees now, while they are still dormant. This will avoid the danger of ‘bleeding’ (excessive sap loss) which is a danger if they are pruned in spring when sap is rising. It is best to wait until all leaves have fallen.
The ones that can be pruned now are the last two types, so check first which varieties you have.For the last group, the late-flowerers, it's not too difficult to prune them. Cut them down to six to ten inches above ground level, pruning them just above a bud if possible. Don't prune spring-flowering clematis now or you'll get no flowers this year. After pruning feed with fertilizer. Tomato fertilizer,rose food,or 5-10-10 are all acceptable fertilizers for clematis.
Wood ashes contain some phosphorous and magnesium, as well as potassium and calcium which make the soil more alkaline, so make sure not to put it on any lime hating plants such as Rhododendron, azaleas or conifers as it may harm them. It is beneficial around deciduous trees, including fruit trees and vegetables, but not potatoes or annuals.
Camellias need to be in a location in your garden that does not get the sun before mid morning.The reason for this is that the flower buds can drop if they thaw too quickly in the early spring frosts. Placing them in a location that allows them to be heated up slowly by the air temperature before the sun hits them means that they thaw out at a slower rate. Autumn-fruiting raspberries can now be pruned back to a few of inches from ground level,as the berries will grow from this year’s stems. Make sure to keep the row no wider than 18” by removing any suckers that creep beyond this these suckers can then be used to start another row.Raspberries will benefit from a top-dressing of a fertiliser high in potash, and a general fertiliser towards the end of March, and a mulch of well-rotted manure or compost during the summer.
Do not prune roses until after St Patrick’s Day, as it may encourage new growth and frost will burn the new cuts. On the other hand now is an ideal time for planting new roses, but do not plant roses where they have been growing before and you will avoid replant disorder.

If you’re just going to go through the motions and phone it in don’t even waste your time. It’s not worth it. Only those who absolutely love to train, those who go to the gym and bust their asses with passion and intensity will make significant gains. If you’re constantly doubting and second guessing your program, always looking for a better workout, over analyzing everything you do because you’ve read too much conflicting info on the internet, you will always be small and weak.That’s just how it is. Get to a real training facility and stop wasting time in Mickey Mouse fancy gyms queuing and waiting to use the bench press or squat racks. Believe in what you’re doing and know that doing anything you aren’t truly passionate about is a complete waste of time and energy. Up against the long established Barnhall U12 in Lexlip they got under way at 10:30 on 17th of Feb, another date to be remembered for the Tallaght RFC.The youths have been training for the past 5 months in all conditions with full commitment, passion and nothing has stopped them from learning the fastest growing team sport in Ireland. All this commitment and passion spilled out onto the pitch in Barnhall with coaches and parents alike commenting on the tackling and passing of the Tallaght team, with a mixed team of boys and girls something that is not seen often in rugby circles. Stepping out as a united team they performed with pride, skill and determination that is rarely found.
St Anne’s GAA New Nursery and Senior Management All teams at St Anne’s GAA Club, Bohernabreena are now back in action after a very successful season for the club last year which saw many of their Juvenile teams win silverware. The club have renamed their Nursery Macra, and each Saturday morning have over 70 children taking part in the fun and games. If you have a son or daughter, niece or nephew, or friends of the family aged 4-7yrs of age that want to get involved in sports in a fun environment, bring them along on a Saturday morning at 10.30am for Gaelic Football or Monday evening at 6pm to the indoor sports hall for Hurling. Ballyboden St.Enda’s St Judes get Coaching Conference ready to rumble Last weekend, Ballyboden St Enda's GAA Club undertook their first Coaching conference. Over 220 delegates representing the coaches and mentors of all the teams in the club attended this event. Over the last few months, Ballyboden St Enda's have taken a new approach in recruiting new coaches to the club so organising this conference is a great incentive for young coaches to get an insight in GAA coaching. It was not surprising that there was such a large turnout considering the quality of the guest speakers which included Pat Gilroy (former Dublin manager) Brian Cuthbert (current mentor to the Cork Senior Football Team) and George O'Connor (former All Ireland winning Wexford hurler). All guest speakers gave their insight on coaching and gave their tips to up and coming coaches. In addition to a series of excellent presentations, all the speakers showed the crowd their skills as football and hurling sessions took place.Local club Ballyboden St Enda's has a total of 80 teams which includes football, hurling, camogie and ladies football. Chairman of Ballyboden St Enda's stated that it was great for the club to have days like the coaching conference " It's great for the club and it shows by the numbers that attended that people are interested in different ideas when it comes to coaching".
“Three weeks before the big night and it’s a sell out!” was the cry from St Judes Fight Night Co-Chair Denis Ryan this week. 46 members ranging from the young to the old; the fit and the not so fit, have been slugging it out in Drimnagh boxing club for the last six weeks in preparation for the big event. Club PRO Fergus McNally, himself one of the boxers, explained to InTallaght that this event is already a success“We have built on the hype from last year’s event and have beat every milestone since, more boxers, more program ads and more ticket sales”. There will be a monster raffle on the night and also some very exciting items for auction. Rathgar Kenpo Karate Club celebrate milestone The Kenpo Karate club on Garville Rd in Rathgar has been part of the community for 30 years and this February they will be celebrating a special event.The occasion is that their Chief instructor and Grand Master,Tommy Jordan,has been doing Kenpo Karate forfifty years.The celebration will be on February 22 in the Community Centre in Balinteer. Tommy was the first student of Kenpo Karate not just in Ireland but also in Europe.The art of Kenpo Karate is now widespread in Europe and Ireland. The club has about 50 members and men, women and total beginners are all welcome.There are two levels,junior for under fourteen years of age and also adults.The art of Kenpo Karate is geared towards self -defence. I get to see all the best fans, I get to see the photographs of our games by the brilliant George Kelly and watching the games at Tallaght stadium, well ya can’t get any better then that... sure it’s Tallaght Stadium and everyone knows thats the home of football!
My duties are to always to be on time, make sure everyone’s in good form, wave and say hello to all my Hoopermaniac fans and give them the respect they deserve. I guess though what some people don’t know is there are always jobs to be done, helping the lads with work backstage.You name it, I’ll do anything to help out as it’s my home, my motto is "Keep it as you found it, respect it".That’s why I love Rovers, everyone looks after each other with a positive attitude!!
I do birthday parties for all ages for the Shamrock Rovers fans, and I love helping out at any gig I’m asked to. My favourite gig last season was going across to Tallaght Hospital,seeing all the children and parents looking after them and brightening up their day. The most important thing in life is to be happy and have a laugh and helping them that day was fantastic!!
Ohh...well if I must...it was when Rovers beat Shels last year on a rainy night in Tallaght 4-0 and I jumped with joy and slipped and my poor cape was covered in muck as the team jumped on me for the goal celebrations. It was great craic.
I have had so many but my most memorable was a sunny day in July 31st 2010 when I got to meet Alessandro Del Piero. It was a huge honour for me to meet a legend like him,I asked him would he like to finish his career with us and he said “hopefully” haha.
I get on great with all the mascots.Sadly they understand I am king of the mountain and number one mascot but I love when the other clubs bring them to Tallaght to say hello.Mind you I rang my good friend,Sligo mascot Benny The Bull last weekend and informed him I’ll be lifting the league title this season!!! I missed it in my grasp last year
By all accounts decent, some fans will sing this and that but I never mind as I enjoy the banter and I only like to seeagoodatmosphereandagreatgameplayedbybothteams
It would mean the world to them.You can see it in their eyes. To be honest they deserve it. They’re the best fans in the world; they sing their hearts out every week and will travel far and wide for Rovers.I suppose it would have to be Man Utd’s "Fred The Red" mascot, as he talks the talk but he’s never seen Ireland’s number one!!

Have you got a good relationship with the Square’s mascot, Cheeky Monkey? We've noticed some pictures of you two together on Facebook. Are you two friends?
We’re best friends, we are. He pops down for a cup of tea every week and we watch Rovers DVDs. I always ask him to the games but he’s a loyal mascot and stays in The Square to look after all the staff instead. He’s a real pro!
Who is your favourite player?
My favourite player is Stephen Rice. He’s a real fighter, he never gives up. He has a great voice in the dressing room, on the pitch, or where ever you need him to be. He’s the man. Fans love him and he shows them that every week with a 100% effort. He’s a real gent off the pitch too.
Who is the best player you've ever seen grace the pitch at Tallaght Stadium?
Gary Twigg - legend, need I say more? A great striker and scored many famous goals for the club.
And finally, how do you see this season go for Rovers?
Well I think having Trevor Croly back is great. He’s a fan favourite and I think hes a great manager. We’ve signed some good players in Quigley, McGuinness etc., and I believe the squad we have this season is very strong. So fingers crossed we can push on but I firmly believe we will win the title back. As I always tell my Hoopers...just "Believe". To finish up I would just like to give a big shout out and Hopper thanks to two great Hoops, Luke and Keith, as without them I wouldn't be the Hooperman that I am today.Thanks lads. - KOH!!!!!

We speak to Dublin’s How did the role All-Ireland winner, with Rovers come about? Philly McMahon, about how he’s turning Rovers into the fittest team in the league Have you much How are you soccer experience? enjoying your new role at Rovers? Do you ever get to play in any of the training games What kind of tests? at Rovers?
I’ve been dealing with Trevor for the last few seasons.I’ve done a good bit with individuals in the League Of Ireland and I met him through working with St Pat’s and we built up a relationship.We’ve got similar philosophies. As well as this I’ve also been training some lads that are in the Premiership at the minute, such as Enda Stevens who’s with Aston Villa.
Yes I played a good bit of soccer when I was younger. I had trials at Nottingham Forest,I played centre midfield. I’m an Everton fan.
It’s been great, the boys are reacting well to the training. They’ve approached it with a great attitude and been working really hard. I had them in the gym with me for five weeks before pre season so they’d been working hard before they came back. I do a lot of tests on them to check their progress and the results have been good.
Tests on their aerobic capacity, lung function, how they move, anything else relevant to the sport. For example their aerobic capacity has really increased in the last month.
What do you want to achieve with the players this year?
I want to make them move better which in turn will hopefully help them perform better on the pitch. I also want to improve them mentally as well as physically. Most of the lads here haven’t done strength and conditioning before, I think we might be the first League Of Ireland club to have a strength and conditioning coach.
What is the main difference between strength and conditioning for GAA and soccer?
With GAA it’s about lads getting bigger, you have to be as big as possible to compete whereas in soccer there’s not as much emphasis on getting big.
As well as your job with Rovers you also run your own business?
Yes I do it’s called BK Strength and Conditioning.It’s a high performance gym that specialises in athlete training and strength building.We have two facilities,one at Ballymun Kickhams and one in Tallaght. I work with all types of people.From MMA fighters,Thai boxers,soccer,rugby and GAA players and also world champion disco dancers,who are brilliant to work with!
Finally Philly why do you think so many other sports Will you be involved are starting to with the team on employ people match days, will from the GAA? you be on the bench? No I don’t. I’d love to! If I did get in there Trevor would be getting worried I think!
Yes I will, I’ll be working on their movement pre match, getting them warmed up. That was one of the things I made clear when I agreed to take the job, I want to be involved with the team all the time, not just for a few days a week.
I don’t think we’re getting the jobs because we’re Gaelic footballers. Even though we come from an amateur sport, when other sports take us to work with them they’re surprised by our level of professionalism. We’ve worked hard at our professions, and we’re getting the benefits from it, we’re getting the jobs out of it now. You can always learn from different sports and what I have learned in Gaelic can be transferred into soccer.
