Welcome to Edition 39 of InTallaght
We hope you’ve all been enjoying this fabulous weather over the past few weeks, at long last we have finally have what can be properly described as a summer! In this edition we met up with the lovely Amy Humberman before she jetted off to Australia to support her husband Brian O Driscoll in the recent Lions matches. Even though Brian was controversially left out of the final test I’m sure having Amy, and their little daughter Sadie, out in Australia with him softened the blow. A few of us from InTallaght made our way down to Galway for the recent Film Fleadh where we were lucky enough to meet up with Saoirse Ronan and Zachary Quinto. Watch the upcoming editions for interviews with both stars. We also met up with Shamrock Rovers newest recruit, and proper league of Ireland star, Eamon Zayed on the eve of his debut for The Hoops and had a very fascinating interview about his career to date. As always if there is anything you would like to see in the magazine please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Until Next Time CHECK US OUT ON

Local runners of all abilities are invited to join in the fun on August 5 when Ireland’s newest road race, the Rock n Roll Half Marathon, takes place in Dubllin.
Over 2,000 international participants will be joining around 6,000 entrants from around Ireland for what could be one of the largest official Gatherings in the country.
Siobhan Moore of The Loop is throwing her support behind the event by signing up to participate in the 21km race and is currently in training. “Dublin Airport and The Loop are expecting over several thousand additional passengers, plus their friends and families over the August Bank Holiday weekend, so it will be an extra busy time for us, which is very exciting as there will be a great buzz through the airport,” she said.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon will also be for a good cause as funds will go to the international SeriousFun Children’s Network and Ireland’s Barretstown, which were both founded by the actor Paul Newman.

A RED LINE Luas driver has been honoured for an act of bravery that saved the life of a woman recently.
Philip Redmond, from Clondalkin, was at the wheel of his tram on Wednesday, June 19 when a passenger notified him that a lady was in distress in the canal close to the Goldenbridge Luas stop.
Philip, who is a trained lifeguard, immediately notified the Luas Control Room which then alerted the emergency services and called for assistance. In the meantime quickthinking Philip took a points bar from his cab, which is used to change track points, and held it out towards the struggling woman. He encouraged her to grab the pole, which she did and Philip was able to bring her to safety. The emergency services then arrived and tended to the lady who is now making a recovery. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Cllr Naoise ó Muirí, commended Philip for his bravery and courage during a reception in the Mansion House.

Tallaght Community Council (TCC) and the passionate volunteers have all reason to smile after a massively successful festival weekend in Tallaght on 6th and 7th of July.
Tallafest was a celebration of art, environment, history and culture in the area. The idea came alive when local volunteers and businesses, including Bohernabreena Tractor Run committee and Rosana Hall committee, formed a dedicated festival committee. Under clear blue skies, Tallafest took Tallaght by storm, with an estimated crowd of five thousand people. TCC's PRO, Tara De Buitléar said: "It was a fantastic weekend. After months of hard work and planning, it was hugely satisfying to see the crowds enjoying themselves. I think we achieved to broadcast the best of Tallaght. A massive thanks to the TCC, the volunteers and to the businesses involved.”
The opening ceremony kicked off in style, with the infectious beat of the Tallaght Festival Band, and a hundred local children took part in a colorful balloon ceremony.

DSPCA By Rachel Lynch
DSPCA Fight Night boxing challenge will take place on the 26th of July both male and female volunteers will step into the ring for the ultimate challenge at Club 92 Leopardstown.
Tickets for the night are priced at €20 each and are available online or for purchase directly from the DSPCA at their campus in Rathfarnham. All proceeds from the ticket sales, raffle, and auction on the night will go directly to the DSPCA to help raise funds for the shelter.
The DSPCA first opened its doors to sick and cruelly treated animals back in 1840 and since then has developed into the oldest and largest animal charity in the Republic of Ireland. The organisation is completely dependent on charitable donations from the public to cover all costs.
ferent areas of the centre in Rathfarnham. Suzanne McGovern of the DSPCA explained the procedure and action taken when a cruelly treated or sick and injured animal turns up at their doors: “when the animals arrive they go through a process and they will see the veterinary team first of all and they will establish how serious their injuries or illnesses are. Then they will decide on a treatment plan. They may have to go into an isolation area which would be for sick animals, we also have surgeries should the animal need medical assistance with a number of inspection units in these buildings too. Once they have gone through their treatment process and are cleared by the veterinary team they can go down for adoptions. Then the adoption staff will actively look for homes for them. We do get a lot of people up to the shelter which is great”.

INTERVIEW
Yes I will be there till the end of the tour and then I will be flying back a few days after that so I think it’s about three weeks I will be away for.
By Rachel Lynch
Have you been following the Lions tour on tv so far? Yes I have, they are doing fantastic. I mean obviously the tough matches are still to come but they are doing great and fingers crossed they will have a good tour.
Will Sadie be going over with you? She will.
Amy Huberman is an Irish actress, author, new mum and wife of rugby legend Brian O'Driscoll.
She recently became the new face of Newbridge Silverware and we caught up with the multi-talented lady as she talked about her new role which sees her follow in thefootsteps of many iconic women such as Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and Maureen O’Hara. Prior to her following Brian on the Lions’ Tour, Amy also spoke to us about future plans and how she has adapted to the new role of a working mother.
Amy you must get asked Will you be designing to do a lot of partnerships anything yourself? Not for the moment no, I’ll leave with companies, why Newbridge Silverware? that to the people who know what
Yes I have been approached by different companies and I think when Newbridge came to us it was such an honour to be asked, especially with the association they have had with certain people in its past, that it was a no brainer. It really is a fantastic Irish company and I was really flattered and incredibly honoured to be associated with it. As an actress, to be named along with some of the silver screen greats, makes me want to pinch myself and I feel so honoured to be amongst them.

Who would you say is your biggest Hollywood icon?
That must be nerve wracking travelling so far with a baby.
Yep. I would be lying if I said otherwise. It is a bit daunting but I mean it’s daunting going on my own, I don’t love flying. My cousin Noleen is coming with me so we are going to have an adventure but we will be fine.
Hopefully she won’t cry and the people on the plane won’t hate me on the way to Aus. She could sleep What’s your favourite the whole way or she could shout piece of jewellery? and scream, we don’t know what Do you prefer earrings, it’s going to be like, but I wish I had a bracelet or maybe my Dorothy slippers to click and a necklace? or what’s the plan?
The last time you were down under you were parachuting and all that kind of exciting stuff will you be doing that again?
Probably not, even if I didn’t have the baby I would be in no rush to jump out of a plane again. We have a couple of adventures planned but they will all be on land.

There have been a lot of injuries this tour. Is it hard to watch Brian play? Do you get nervous?
I definitely get nervous, but that’s with any game, even if it’s a provincial home game here. That’s the nature of the sport and they are well looked after. They themselves are used to it so you have to let them get on with it.

Any time I have seen her interviewed I think would consider it. she is so funny and she doesn’t take herself very seriously.
Having just become a new mum and seeing the Newbridge adverts and how glamorous you always look, is that a reflection of what you are like when at home?
No. That is like a team of stylists and hair and makeup that unfortunately don’t live in my house. It’s so lovely to come in and do a job like this and have teams that do you up, because it’s girly and its fun but I definitely do not wash the bottles dressed like that.
Everyone gives out because she doesn’t smile enough and she laughs at herself about that. She’s also an amazing designer and obviously incredibly talented.
Would you like a full line one day?
I don’t know, you look at Victoria Beckham and what she does is a serious amount of hard work and I think if you were to do that it would have to be your primary job. It couldn’t be a side line, the amount of hours she must put into that.
What would you say personally would be your Would you like to see proudest moment in some of your books terms of your career? The first one was getting the book published and then the acting has been a progression so its hard to pick out just one job but it was starting to work outside Ireland as well because that’s all down to just you being right for the job. I still love working here but it’s nice to just change it up a bit.
In your Newbridge advert you are having a dinner party, are there any famous people you would like to have over for dinner?
Yes that would be amazing but again that stuff is a bonus. You have to write for what it is and not write something that would be an amazing movie, just be true to the form you’re writing, but it would be great if it did. It’s certainly not the reason to do it but if one of them took off it would be great.
Any new book plans?
No, it took me so long to get the second one out that I’m just going to park that for a while because it was hard to get though it with everything else going on as well.
I would have Victoria Beckham, I will definitely return to it but it’s although she mightn’t eat any- nice to not have deadlines over you thing, but that might also be for a little while. my cooking!

The Establishment INTERVIEW By Rachel Lynch

The other lads are all English?
Yeah they are all local Nottingham lads.
How long are you living there now yourself?
Well I’m there about 19 years now.
And you haven’t lost one bit of your Dublin accent!
Dublin footballer John Burns, who once played for Nottingham Forest releases his new single Jennifer Jones on July 26 with his band The Establishment. We talk to the man who has taken a complete career change and traded in one type of pitch for a pitch of a very different kind.
You were a midfielder with Nottingham Forest weren’t you?
I was 16 and I was spotted playing for Belvedere boys at Fair View park in Dublin so that’s where it all started and then I got an opportunity to go across to England. I could have signed for Aston Villa, Huddersfield or Blackburn but I just loved Nottingham Forest.
That would have been when Forest were in the Premier League?
Yes they were. It was brilliant and I remember when I was 16 they even came third in the Premier League and you had the likes of Stuart Pierce and Stan Collymore there. When I look back now at the standard of them in that time to today it’s like chalk and cheese.

I could never understand that.
How would you describe your sound?
Our sound, I would say, is very 60s but the great thing about it is no one has pigeon holed us. I love the 60s. It’s just a classic verse, chorus and bridge with a little bit of a solo. I came to England at a great time in the 90s I mean, you had the likes of Oasis and Ocean Colour Scene.
Would any of them have influenced you growing up?
Absolutely yes, definitely Ocean Colour Scene. I still listen to those albums today and then I also had the influence of the Irish music. I was mad into Christy Moore and The Dubliners.
Your new single is called Jennifer Jones, who is she?
Well, it was Stuart who wrote this one and at the end of the day we

There will be one or two ballads in there and really just a mix of everything. The feedback from people has been that there are so many different influences in this album, but I think that’s because we have three song writers in the band. Like Hobbo has a little slow one on track 11. Then you have Superstar which is a stomper. Just really upbeat music.

A Hill Billy Hoedown At The Square! This month we are recognising the amazing work done by the organising committee of the recent very successful Tallafest, by awarding them the Community Champion award.
The event was a great success and this was all down to the tireless work that was put in by the organising committee TCC, over the weeks and months prior to the event. Such was the thoroughness of the committee that they even organised a heat wave to hit Ireland on the big day!
Tallafest was a two day event that highlighted all that is good in the local area, it was a showcase for all the local sports clubs to show their talents as well as local bands who entertained the thousands of visitors.
There are so many events throughout the country that simply would not happen if it were not for the spirit of volunteerism and sometimes we take these volunteers for granted!
Dan Dent is a familiar face to customers.
Most days he makes his way from his home in Artane to Tallaght to spend time in The Square meeting old friends and making new ones.
“I really like this place, you can get everything you want here and everyone is so friendly,” Dan told Sq. Magazine.
Country living was brought to Level 1 when hundreds of kids attended the free Hill Billy Event here at the Centre. They loved making their very own grasscals to take home with them, and playing the giant garden games. There was also face painting and balloon modelling, and jelly sandwiches for those who fancied a snack.
dancing skills. The DJ held a pop the balloon pop challenge to entertain the kids. They could also get their photos taken with the Hill Billy girls and boys, and of course with Cheeky as well. The area was set up as a western garden scene and there was even a real-life scarecrow in the garden this time! Don’t forget to like the Square on Facebook to find out all about our upcoming, exciting free events held here at the Centre.
The DJ was playing western cowboy music and Cheeky Monkey turned up to show off his Line Dancing moves along with the kids! He was very impressed with their
“I've been coming here, nearly everyday, for two years, all the way from Artane, that's how much I like it! It's so handy for me, I come over on the LUAS.
If I went into town I'd be out in the open all the time but here I love to stay here as long as I can. It's very safe and accessible for me.
“I worked in Irish Biscuits in Belgard for many years and a lot of the workers from there meet in here quite a bit to keep in touch. I think it's the best shopping centre in the country. I've been in a lot of the other ones but this is the best, you could spend the whole day here there's so much to do.” Dan, from all us here at The Square, a huge thank you for your support!

THE WOLVERINE By Rachel Lynch
altercation with a group of lads and before he retaliates, is approached by a woman who explains she has been trying to find him for over a year. She tells him that her employer is dying and that he wants to thank Wolverine for saving his life. She also admits to him that she is honoured to meet him to which he replies “That’s not who I am anymore.”
The Wolverine 3D will hit Irish cinemas on July 26 and is certainly one of the most eagerly anticipated movies so far this year.
It is to be the sixth instalment in the X-Men film series and follows the events of X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). Hugh Jackman reprises his role from previous films as the title character.
This epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world, he will face a host of unexpected and deadly opponents in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed.
Battling ninjas and samurai swords, he must overcome a number of enemies including being confronted by a stranger from his past. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality.
The movie begins with a rather run down Wolverine having suffered many upsets in his life trying to keep a low profile. It all changes one Director James Mangold has said night while in a bar he gets into an of his new take on the character:
“I was fascinated with the idea of portraying Logan as a ronin – the definition of which is a samurai without a master, without a purpose. Kind of a soldier who is cut loose. War is over. What does he do? What does he face? What does he believe anymore? Who are his friends? What is his reason for being here anymore? I think those questions are especially interesting when you’re dealing with a character who is essentially immortal.”

GIRL MOST LIKELY By Rachel Lynch
A failed New York playwright awkwardly navigates the transition from Next Big Thing to Last Year's News.
Girl Most Likely is a comedy about a woman (Kristen Wiig) who, after having a nervous breakdown after a staged attempted suicide, must move back in with her mother. This will be Wiig's first starring role since the box office smash Bridesmaids.
As the taglines says: “She has a lot to live up to. And a few things to live down.” After both her career and relationship hit the skids, she's forced to make the humiliating move back home to New Jersey with her eccentric mother and younger brother (Annette Bening and Christopher Fitzgerald).
When her long term boyfriend decides they should no longer see each other, the completely distressed Imogene stages a suicide in an attempt to win back her ex, only to wind up in hospital. She finds her gambling addict mother has been contacted to take custody of her as the authorities do not believe she is safe on her own. With no other options she must leave the hospital with her mother and return back to her family home.
Imogene reconnects with her brother and clashes with the young guy who is now living in her old room (played by Glee’s Darren Criss). However, when she discovers a secret her mother has been keeping from her, she travels back to the Big Apple to confront her past.
From just viewing the trailer, it looks like the movie will mostly be about a mother and a daughter repairing their broken relationship, but there She is shocked upon arrival to find is also a romance thrown in along her childhood bedroom has been the way too. rented out to a handsome 20something year old. RUSSEL HOGG Man On Fire
THE ESTABLISHMENT Jennifer Jones
By Padraig Conlon
By Rachel Lynch
The Establishment are an indie band based in Nottingham. They were formed in 2006 by guitarist and Irishman John Burns and drummer Steven Landon, and were quickly joined by vocalist Stephen Hobster, bass guitarist Neil Jacks and guitarist Stuart Landon.
Man On Fire is the debut album from Russell Hogg, a multi talented 29-year-old folk singer from Aylesbury.
Two years in the making, Man On Fire is an excellent first record, full of tracks that showcase Russell’s wonderful story telling ability and powerful voice. The songs here are all extremely honest and deal with the universal themes of relationship difficulties and heartbreak. From the emotional scars that come from breaking up, to the intensity of an obsessive love, Russell puts it all out there on this record.
The opener, A Song For The Broken Hearted is a bittersweet track and is exactly what it says in the title: a song to give hope to someone who’s racked with pain from a bad break up, where the lyrics talk of “holding your head up, you’ll be alright.” It starts off slowly with just acoustic guitar but then the addition of strings and drums builds it into an uplifting tune, telling the listener “you can’t touch the highs without hitting the lows.”
Next track Winter is another acoustic track about a girl called Maria who has “something about her that” Russell cannot escape. After this comes Stay, one of my favourites on this album, which again
Having just recently been introduced to the band’s music I took a listen to their new single Jennifer Jones this week and I must say I was more than impressed. It is uplifting and instrumentally fantastic. opens with just acoustic guitar. Here the singer is begging the target of his affections to stay and the chorus, (which is the same as the title of the song) is delivered with what sounds like thunder breaking in the background. Too Much is the darkest track on the album, the guitar reminds me a little of an older Neil Young and the author wants to know why his head is so wrecked, “Why is this trip taking so long?” In The Girl With The Pink Hair” Russell’s voice sounds a lot like Eddie Vedder’s, a strong baritone that makes you sit up and listen to what he’s got to say.
The standout song on the album for me though is the title track Man On Fire, a powerful tune in which the singer pleads for someone to save him and he tries to save himself, tries to “be the man I’m trying to be.”
As well as being a musician Russell is also a sound engineer and you can notice the attention to detail in the production of this fine album. Man On Fire is an excellent record, which will strike a chord with many. Everything is done well and the musicianship is of the highest quality. Hopefully this album will lead Russell to bigger things but for the meantime he should be very happy that he has produced such a good debut album.
The simplicity of the song is enough to have you hitting that repeat button. There are no gimmicks to this tune, the chorus is also simple but effective. As guitarist John Burns told us in our interview with him on page 20 of this edition: “everyone knows a Jennifer Jones from their school days”.
Although some have said the lads are like other guitar based groups such as The Kooks and The Coral, the Irishman is keen for The Establishment to be out there on their own.Accompanying the single is the music video which has cameo roles from some legendary ex-international England players like Stuart Pierce and Teddy Sheringham.

PHILLIPS DESIGNLINE By Cathal Jennings
Televisions have been getting slicker and sleeker over the past five years.
But if you’ve seen one giant superslim screen, you’ve seen them all – until you’ve seen the radical new Philips DesignLine.
The clear glass at the base, coupled with three-sided Ambilight, adds to the impression that the DesignLine is floating in front of your very eyes. If you’re thinking, by the way, that the DesignLine is clearly going to be miles beyond your budget, you might be surprised to hear that the 55-inch model – the only one we’re getting this side of the Atlantic – is going to cost a far from outrageous €2,500. That’s a heck of a lot less than you’d expect to pay, at any rate, for the latest style-driven TV from the likes of Loewe or Bang & Olufsen.
There’s no frame, no curvy chrome stand, just a single (46 or 55in) slab of almost-square 'gradient’ glass – black at the top, fading into transparency at the bottom – that rests nonchalantly against the wall like that framed picture you haven’t got around to hanging. And it’s as smart on the inside as outside: WiFi-enabled, with all the Philips conceived it as 'an object of usual catch-up and on-demand desire’ and, handily for a TV, you’ll goodies, and a SimplyShare want to look at it for hours; you function to stream content from may even want to switch it on. your phone or tablet.

Dark’s look is based around a cell shading style that is designed to be reminiscent of a graphic novel. DYNASTY WARRIORS 8 By Cathal Jennings
Dynasty Warriors 8 follows the stories of the kingdoms of Wei, Wu, Shu and Jin through the actions of historical military and political figures of the time as they fight to gain control over the Three Kingdoms of China.
Apart from the Story Mode, which comes with new episodes and characters and takes a deeper look at the drama that unfolds in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms story, Dynasty Warriors 8 includes all new "What if?" scenarios.
Breaking away from historical fact, this mode takes a look at what could have happened if famous characters had lived to fight nother day. Stories branch out to different outcomes providing variety in the course and ending of the game, and giving the players the power to view an alternate version of history depending on their choices.
The game also boasts a vast number of new and returning playable characters, as the highly anticipated officers Yue Jin and Li Dian from the Wei Kingdom, who make their first appearance in the series, alongside more than 70 playable characters that fight to prevail in the battlefield. This highly anticipated game hits stores on July 16 and you will have to be quick because it will be a big seller.

Ireland’s Service Sector Increase
Ireland’s services sector expanded faster in June as the flow of new export orders improved and most business owners expressed greater confidence about the year ahead according to the results of a recent business survey.
The Investec Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) of services sector activity improved to 54.9 from 52.7 in May, well above the 50 line that separates growth from contraction, although short of the 2013 high of 56.8 hit in January.Ireland's services sector accounts for 70% of GDP, although that includes retail, wholesale and public services not covered by the Investec survey. Investec Ireland chief economist Philip O'Sullivan described the June result as "very encouraging" and said he expected positive results over the remainder of the year. The survey, which covers all private sector services in Ireland, excluding retail and wholesale, is based on questionnaires sent to around 600 Irish private-sector service companies.
Ireland to beat 7.4% GDP deficit target
Ireland is on course to beat its 7.4% GDP deficit target this year with our funding requirements through 2013-2018 among the least onerous in the euro area. That's according to an analysis from Davy Research which points out that, with six months exchequer returns in, Ireland is already approximately 0.5% of GDP (€800m) inside this 7.4% target. A key development since Budget 2013 has been an enormous improvement in the terms of Ireland's bailout loans and funding from the ECB.

Pfizer to create some 250 jobs with US$130m investment in Irish plants
Pharmaceutical company Pfizer is to create up to 250 construction jobs on the back of investments worth US$130m for two of its Irish plants.
The investments will be used to upgrade Pfizer’s plants in Ringaskiddy in Cork and Grange Castle in Dublin. Some US$100m is being invested in the Dublin site, and the remainder will be spent on the Cork facility.
The upgraded sites will be able to produce more advanced, complex drug therapies for difficult-to-cure diseases.
Dr Paul Duffy, vice-president of Pfizer, said the company is seeing the benefits of the investments it has been making in innovation, as shown by recent launches of medicines for stroke prevention, rheumatoid arthritis and cancer, as well as progress within its midto-late-stage product pipeline. “There is opportunity for Pfizer’s Irish sites to attract the development of new medicines, while also continuing to manufacture existing, important medicines,” Duffy said.
“Our Irish operations are significant and we have excellent colleagues across our sites, dedicated to the highest standards of manufacturing quality and excellence. This additional scale and capability arising from these investments ensure both sites are well-placed for the future within the Pfizer global supply network.”
Government publishes digital initiative
The government has published an initiative designed to help Ireland embrace the digital economy, encourage increased online training and e-commerce, and increase education in the areas of technology and digital skills the National Digital Strategy. A number of initiatives have been put in place to roll out the strategy - headed by Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte nation-wide. These include the introduction of vouchers that allow businesses to develop an online presence, as well as a "web awareness" scheme that aims to get 10,000 businesses utilising e-commerce.
The National Digital Strategy will work alongside the National Broadband Scheme to ensure high-speed broadband is delivered all across Ireland. Although Irish consumers spent approximately €3 billion online last year, less than a quarter of Irish businesses currently sell online.
Eirgrid expansion worth 3,000 jobs

TRUE BLUE By Lee Cloak
Pitch black, but it was the sea, I could smell it. The sun came up and the water looked calm and still like a sheet of glass. I put the bolt back in me rifle, inserted the magazine and closed the magazine door, then I checked the v-notch and front post sights, then I put me sling on. Everything cleaned and oiled, bayonet sharpened like a bleedin razor blade.

Sky of Red Poppies is a coming of age novel set during the political turbulence of 1960s Iran. It follows the unlikely friendship of two young schoolgirls, Roya and Shireen, and their struggle for autonomy under the oppressive rule of the Shah. Told through Roya’s point of view, many of the events in the novel and its characters are shrouded in mystery, and no one is ever really how they appear to be.
The story opens up with Roya, a daughter of a wealthy landowner, witnessing a student from

HOW TO APPLY THE
PERFECT RED LIP
Red lips are seen as classic Hollywood glamour, that we associate with legends such as Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor and more recently Angelina Jolie and Gwen Stefani.
It's a timeless statement that can appear so striking. But why is it that so many women are afraid of wearing it themselves? A red lip is so eye catching but needs to be applied perfectly! So you may need a little know how.
Skin Tones
So many women love the look of red lipstick and believe it or not, it is the one colour that suits everyone. It's all about finding the right shade. The pads of your fingertips are the closest to your lip colour, so this is a better place to test them than the back of your hand! Sales assistants will help you identify the correct shade if you have any problems.
Cooler tones of red lipstick suit most skin types, but especially if you have fair skin. Stick to reds that have a blue or brown undertone. These tones will also help to cancel out the yellow in your teeth, and give them an immediate

whitening effect. Warmer or olive skin tones suit brighter reds with an orange or coral undertone. If you tan easily then these will flatter you the best. Though they may not be the most flattering if you have yellowing teeth!

Installing INSTALLING Decking DECKING
DAVID FRAZER

Landscape Gardener
DECK OUT YOUR
OUTSIDE SPACE
The first step for ‘do it yourself’ decking is to decide where in your garden the decking is going to be placed.
Is it going to be coming out from a conservatory or other room at the back of the house, or is it going to be free standing in another part of your garden? It would be a good idea to look at your garden in the morning and evening and identify where the sun is shining most. A sunny area in your garden is the best location for your deck. When making your final decision, there are a number of things to keep in mind. These should include privacy from your neighbour’s gardens or windows, and where and when your chosen area gets the sun.
Also, what will your deck be used for? Will it be used for a nice quiet place to go and read a book, or to sit and enjoy the fine weather (if we ever get any!), or will it be used for parties and barbecues? These are all very important factors to consider when choosing your location. It is also important to consider what type of furniture you'll want on it once it's assembled. Will you have a dining table and chairs and if

so how many? Would you like room for sun loungers and flower pots and plants or any other accessories such as free standing heaters? So don’t make it too small. The next step is to make sure the area you've chosen to lay the decking on is free from obstructions like trees, plants or large stones. This is very important so that you can begin laying the joists that will make the solid foundation of the decking you have chosen. If your deck is to sit directly on top of the existing grass in your garden then, with a basic grasp of DIY and some hard work, you should have no problem with laying decking.
It is important to remove any grass underneath and cover it with a weed barrier to prevent unsightly grass and weeds growing up between the boards of the decking. You will also need to create a drainage system so the area under the deck does not get flooded.
Whether or not you want to have your decking installed professionally depends very much on your personal circumstances and budget. If you are confident with major DIY projects then the challenge of installing the For those of you with a downward sloping garden, decking yourself could be very rewarding. it is important to take note whether the deck will be located several feet below the room you wish If, however, you just want your decking to enter it from. Duble Delight
Dublin's GAA population is basking in the glory of an unexpected Leinster Senior double with the Footballers joining the Hurlers as Leinster champions. The Hurlers bridged a 52 year gap to bring the Bob O'Keefe trophy back to the capital when they beat Galway in a thrilling final in Croke Park. It was Dublins 5th game on consecutive weekends, as they needed a replay to dispatch both Wexford and Hurling kingpins Kilkenny. They then travelled to Croker with a fair amount of optimism ahead of the final and this was rewarded when they eventually beat the tribesmen by 12 points! They know face either Kilkenny or Cork in the All Ireland Semi Final.
It was a much less eventful journey who dispatched Westmeath and Kildare with a minimum of fuss before meeting old rivals Meath in the final. Despite being 2 points behind at the break Dublin kicked on in the second half and ran out comfortable winners in the end, and now await a qualifier in the quarterfinals. Lets hope it’s a long hot summer for the Dubs and more silverware comes back to the capital!

Trevor Croly
INTERVIEW
By Padraig Conlan
56 the people in the office to the players have been so great to work with.
When you were a player did you always plan on going into management eventually?
Since we last spoke with Trevor he has claimed his first trophy as Rovers manager.
His team are starting to show signs they are capable of putting a big run together and maybe challenging the clubs currently above them in the league. We caught up with him to get his thoughts on the season so far.
What is your reflection on the first half of the season?
It's been frustrating because we've drawn a lot of games. We played really well in a lot of those games and not got the wins we deserved. Like the Bray match last week, we scored a perfectly good goal late on that would have given us the three points but the referee has made a mistake and disallowed it. You just have to accept it and move on, these things happen. There are areas we can improve on and we will improve on, we will be better, those results have given us experience that'll we'll use in the second part of the season. On the positive side, we are All Ireland Champions, we won that final in such a convincing manner, it's rare that a team wins a final like that.
How did it feel to win the Setanta Cup and get your first piece of silverware so early in your career?
We were all delighted, it was great for the group to win something together, it'll help them bond which is fantastic for the squad. We have a lot of new players and it was great for them to win a medal early in their careers with the club.
Not really no. When I was playing I was just totally engrossed in being a player, it wasn't something that I would have thought about or planned on. Near the end of my career, which came quite quick, would have been the first time I really thought about what'll I do next. I knew I wanted to try and up skill myself, study the game and keep working in football. It's going reasonably well so far.
You must be delighted with the capture of Eamon Zayed, how did the move come about?
I spoke to Eamon at the start of the year to see if there was a chance we could get him. At the time it couldn't happen but thankfully he came home and this time it did. I'm lucky enough to have worked with him before with the PFAI team and he's an exceptional player. His quality is evident from how he has performed with his previous teams and he's an international player with Libya. He was someone I was very interested in and I'm delighted he's joined us.
Has management been everything you imagined Has the poor away form it would be? given you worries? I knew beforehand what it would be like because in a round about way I had done it before, without the title of course.
As I was saying earlier it's been really frustrating, but we have to learn from all of that, learn and develop. That’s why that draw with Bray was so frustrating because we were on a Rovers is a fantastic club with super good run. But you also have to repeople involved with it. Everyone member that it’s a building process from the board, the backroom staff, and this is a new group who will be

better for the experience they'll have picked up. The players have shown great character to comeback and score late goals in a lot of those games. Their attitude has been brilliant in all the games actually, they've shown desire, work rate and graft all season. They just need to develop that, learn from the set backs, as there's always a chance to learn from them. There is nothing like experience.
Are you surprised with how well St Pats have done so far this season?
Not really no. They have been developing those players for a while now and they've had a season together last year already so it hasn't been surprising to me. We'll see how they do now we're into the business end of the season.
Are there many of the Under 19s ready to make the step up?
Yes there is. We've just got them back as their season starts next month and we have some of them training with us. Alan Kehoe, who has already made the step up, played really really well recently against Dundalk and he was unlucky to get a bad injury in that game but I was very happy with his performance. I think there is definitely a few from last year who are capable of going on to play for Rovers and will do eventually. We've altered a few things in the underage structure, there needs to be a lot of work put in as it's vital we produce our own players for the future.
Finally Trevor, with the And are you surprised transfer with how competitive the window still league has been in the open any first half of the season? plans to No I haven't. Everyone is capable of bring in a beating everyone, as we've seen al- few new ready, and it's great for the neutrals faces? as it makes for an unpredictable league. Dundalk have looked very strong and they're making a great challenge. But we are just concentrating on our own end, we need to give everything to get us where we want to be.
How happy are you that Karl Sheppard's loan has been extended to the end of the season?
It's brilliant we have got him to stay. Karl is having a great season and he is happy and enjoying himself. All the strikers we have now at the club are excellent; we're lucky to have them all really.
We've our eye on Luis Suarez, hopefully that will work out! Ah no there are some really good players out there but it's not too simple to get who you want. We'll have a look but at the moment I’m presently happy with my squad.

INTERVIEW By Padraig Conlon
InTallaght Magazine met up with new Hoops signing Eamon Zayed the day before he made his league debut in the win against Derry City.
On a gloriously sunny morning in Marley Park Eamon replied openly and honestly to every question put to him. Just back in Ireland after 18 months playing in the Iranian League with two different clubs, the man who was PFAI Player of The Year in 2011 may turn out to be the signing of the season. Because of constraints on space the interview will be spread over two parts. In this the first part we focus on everything Rovers related while in the second part, which will be in next months edition, Eamon tell us all about the remarkable story behind his whirlwind time in Iran, from scoring a hat trick in the Tehran derby in only his second appearance to his struggle to be allowed leave the country following his last game.
How did the move to Rovers come about?
I actually spoke to Trevor the first day he got the job, we just had a chat to see what my position was. I’d already decided I was going to go abroad for another six months, to Iran. I came back in the middle of May and Trevor rang me again to see was I willing to come home. I wasn’t sure what I was doing and then I went off to play for Libya. I said to Trevor that we’d sit down when I got back on 15th June. Sligo were on to me as well, Rovers and Sligo were the two teams I had brief chats with. Derry and Limerick were also interested in talking to me but I decided that it was either
going to be Rovers or Sligo I was going to sign for. I spoke with Trevor and basically he sold it to me. I like Trevor a lot, he’s a great coach. I worked with him before at the PFAI Training Camp a few years ago, he’s a good man. As a manager I hear good things about him as well. Trevor was a main factor in me signing for Rovers, the way he wanted to play, the way he saw me playing. I’d be very much into my relationship with the manager I’m playing for. As a player I need that. I’ve worked for a couple of managers I didn’t get on with and I didn’t enjoy my time with them.
Are you good shape? Have you had many games in the last few months?
Yes I feel good, I finished playing in Iran in the middle of May then I played two games for Libya in June v Uganda in a friendly and a World Cup Qualifier v Congo where I played 60/65 minutes. I know I need to be fitter and that will only come with playing games, which in turn will help get my sharpness back.
Do you think playing in Iran improved you as a player?
Yes I’d like to think it has. I think I’ve matured and experienced a lot in the last year and a half playing away, I’ve learned a lot of different things. My knowledge of the game and the way I play as a striker has definitely improved. Out there I was training everyday, it was a professional set up and we were playing in front of thousands of people. In Iran everything is played on the deck. It’s a slower pace, they like to play from the back and build it up slowly. They don’t press. Technically they’re excellent. It’s a strong league and everyone in the league plays pretty much like the national team. At Persepolis I played with about eight or nine lads off the national team, it’s a good standard. They never really concentrate for the full 90 minutes though, I don’t know if that’s down to physical fitness or what but come the 70th minute you knew you were going to get chances. The defenders would get tired.
Do you look back on your time in Iran as a positive experience?
In the year and a half I was there I had some good and bad times, mostly good times. Most of the first year was fantastic; especially the first six months when I broke into the team, it was just surreal. The team I played for Persepolis are the biggest in Iran, not the best but definitely the biggest. There are 75 million people in Iran and 45 million of them support them. We went to Dubai and Qatar and the club would even have supporters there. I got to play in front of 96,000 people. I scored hat tricks in front of 86 and 76 thousand. The people are lovely. They absolutely love their football. Here in Ireland we have so much, so many different sports and

we’ve the pubs and the clubs whatever. Over there they don’t so football means so much to them. They get to let off steam. They treat their footballers like the very top end of celebrity.
Do you think Rovers can still win the league?
It’s going to be tough because of the fact that it’s about catching four teams instead of one. If there’s a league table between now and the end of the season I can see us topping that. I think a lot of the teams Did you keep in touch will drop points, we just need to with what was make sure we beat those teams happening in above us to give ourselves any The League Of Ireland chance.
