Welcome to Edition 40 of InTallaght
American film star Zachary Quinto may be familiar to readers as Spock from the latest Star Trek movies and we were delighted when we got the chance to meet up with him for a chat in Galway when he was over for the recent Film Fleadh. He is a very friendly and down to earth guy who was so easy to talk to and we wish him the best of luck with his latest release. Our other two interviews in this edition are with musicians Jennifer Paige and Russell Hogg. Jennifer had a massive world wide hit with the song Crush back in 1998 and is just about to release a new album this month. Russell is a local singer songwriter starting out his recording career and we spoke to him about his hopes for the future as he releases his debut album. InRovers features well known RTE reporter Samantha Libreri talking about her love for the club and also includes the second part of our interview with latest Hoops star Eamon Zayed where he discusses his experience of playing football professionally in Iran. Please feel free to contact us if you have any community news or events you want us to publicise for you; whatever it is we are only too happy to try and help.

Majority Of Dubs Want Directly Elected Mayor
Nearly two thirds of those surveyed in Dublin City Council’s ‘Your Dublin Your Voice’ survey are in favour of a directly elected mayor, which Dublin Chamber of Commerce believes is vital for reform and development.
Music Fans Gearing Up For Tour De Picnic
Tour de Picnic is an annual 80km charity cycle from Dublin to Electric Picnic festival, Stradbally, Laois. Over the past 5 years, they have raised over €500,000 for children’s charities including Temple Street, Laura Lynn and Thank you Crumlin, Love Mia.
This is a non-competitive, all in participation cycle challenge which raises much needed funds for these charities and gives participants the reward of a 3 day festival pass for taking part.
Last year they had over 700 participants so sign up today to guarantee your place in this year’s event. This year Tour de Picnic beneficiaries will be Thank You Crumlin, Love Mia and LauraLynn House, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice.

revamp of the multi-sensory garden that can be enjoyed by all the children and their families. The minimum total participants must raise is €380 which includes the sign up fee – this also includes raising money for the two fantastic beneficiaries.
They will also get the full first class cycling experience, baggage transfer to the festival, full weekend camping ticket, return bike transfer and a bus ticket home. The Tour de Picnic starting point is Tallaght Stadium. Music-filled breaks will be provided along the cycling rest stops, and cyclists are encouraged to go at their own pace. On arrival at Stradbally, ice baths, massage, burgers and beers will all be provided whilst the cyclists collect their bags and full weekend passes.
A more accessible 10km charity run has been added to the fundraiser this year. Participants in the 10km run will be bussed from the Tour De Picnic starting point in Tallaght Stadium to Athy, LauraLynn House provides end Co. Kildare. They will run from of life care to sick children in a Athy to Stradbally, accompanied very unique, special setting in by a fleet of Harley Davidsons. Dublin. The survey took the responses of over 1,200 people from each Local Authority area into account, having asked questions about the form and function that the office of a DEM (Directly Elected Mayor) might take. “All over the world, mayors with strong executive powers and real vision are transforming their cities and making a real and tangible difference to the lives of their citizens,” said Gina Quin, Dublin Chamber chief executive. “Over the past decade, Dublin Chamber has championed the concept of a directly elected mayor for Dublin with the powers required to drive efficiency and to promote the region internationally.”
Local Author Launches Second Book
InTallaght favourite Louise Phillips officially launched her much anticipated second novel on August 7 at The Gutter Bookshop. The Doll’s House features established characters Criminal Psychologist, Dr Kate Pearson and DI O’Connor and has already been picked by the Bord Gais Energy Book Club as their Top Fiction Book of the Week. Well done Louise! See this edition’s book review on page 47 to see what we thought of it!
8 A plebiscite will be held next May to determine whether the citizens of Dublin wish to see a change in the system.
Before that happens, a forum of Dublin’s four local authorities, chaired by Lord Mayor Oisín Quinn, will discuss proposals for a directly elected mayor. Following a public consultation, their proposals will be presented to Phil Hogan TD, Minister for the Environment, Community & Local Government.
“Dublin needs a champion who will be directly accountable to the people of Dublin as a whole on issues of regional importance. Such a champion would market the region internationally as an attractive location, drive the regional integration of infrastructure, and provide coordinated regional leadership,” said Quin. “To achieve this, the forum must ensure its recommendations include real executive powers and accountability that cuts across the four local authorities.”

INTERVIEW
You kept Instagram updated with an amazing video of you retracing your way to your old work place, taking in the great community vibe of Galway City.
By Rachel Lynch
It’s a good video, I really like Instagram. I have a certain level of scepticism about social media. I think sometimes it is a totally unnecessary evil but I think of all them, Instagram is my favourite because it’s just images or videos. I don’t even really tweet anymore, just the odd one to link it to my Instagram.
We recently caught up with Zachary Quinto, best known for playing Spock in the 2009 reboot Star Trek, and its 2013 sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness during the Galway Film Fleadh He revealed some interested insights into his time living here in Ireland and also revealed that Paramount have told the Star Trek cast that they're planning to shoot Star Trek 3 in 2014, and that J.J. still wants to direct!
Welcome back to Ireland Zachary.
around a lot while I was here too. I went to Dublin, Limerick and Cork It’s just great to be back, I lived here and saw the whole country but 15 years ago in Galway so it really Galway is my favourite. I spent the whole day when I got here roaming is great to be back. around and trying to find the old places I used to hang out.
So why Ireland and in particular why Galway?
Well I’m half Irish, my heritage is half Irish and half Italian. So I wanted to go somewhere that I had a connection to but I didn’t want to learn a new language and I did a lot of research at the time and in 1998 it was the fastest growing city in western Europe actually and in terms of use it felt like a really vital City in Ireland. I travelled
Did you go and visit the old coffee shop you used to work in?
I did. It was the first place I went to. Everything has changed, they now have computers. The owner told me they just got them like last year. When I did it we literally had to wear a fanny pack with my money
in it and give change and add it all up in our head for all these drunk people. We had to write the orders on a note pad and then tear it off and put it on top of the toaster oven in the kitchen and then the heat from the toaster oven would curl the paper and then the orders would fall behind the toaster and people would be like “where is my order?”
Seems like you look back at that time in your life with fond memories? I do. I really do.
Have you loved all the roles/characters you have played?
Yes, well it’s difficult for me sometimes and I feel like Sylar, Heroes and American Horror Story were almost chosen for me. I don’t know why I gravitated toward them or they gravitated toward me but I just try to understand the humanity of all those characters with a sense of compassion. It’s hard to say that I really firmly believe that as an actor every relationship with a character I play has to be rooted in love and obviously it’s really difficult to love people like that.
There is an interesting quote from you, saying that you can relate to Spock because of his duality. Is it hard to act out a character of his particular kind?
It is hard I guess as an actor, our instinct is to express but I have a profound respect for the character and his duality is a big part of that. I think it is just about diversity, I play that character and then I play

other characters and do other things that allow me to exercise different muscles so when I’m playing Spock that kind of restraint is something that I embrace. The thing that is frustrating for me while I am doing Spock is we will do a scene and in a movie this big you have a lot of time and freedom to really get in and explore, whereas on a television show you have to turn out an episode every eight days for the most part, so there really just isn’t any time for exploration. You have about four or five takes and you are onto the next thing, whereas with something as big as Star Trek you have six months to shoot.
You had some really funny moments in the movie. Was it enjoyable onset?
Of course, the thing that gets frustrating sometimes is we could be on the coverage of Chris, and J.J would be in there working with him take after take after take and it could sometimes be ten takes later they get onto me and there is only so much you can do. Like I really tried to cultivate an inner life that transcends and that is translatable to the audience but the reality is there are only so many different ways I can raise my eyebrow. So I often feel like I wish I had another take but then I ask myself why? But I love the character for who he is.
The other thing I love about your interpretation of Spock is the humour. Do you consciously think about the humour when you are playing the role or does it just come from being him?
Both. I mean it is in the writing. I think J.J Abrams (director) is funny in his own right, so I do think that is part of it. It’s also something Leonard Nimoy (original Spock) and I talked a lot about actually. I think that’s one of his favourite aspects of the character; the humour. In this new movie when Kirk and Uhora are in the lift and the door opens and I am there, and he says to me “Are your ears burning?”. It’s just the logic of that for Spock, the irony of the sarcasm doesn’t register with him straight away and that is funny in its own way. I think it’s just all part of the character. Even towards the start of the movie when Spock is referred to as “pointy” and he replies with “Is that a derogatory reference to my ears?”. All brilliant lines.
You and Chris Pine who plays Kirk have a great onscreen partnership. Do you get to catch up much?
I was just thinking about him yesterday. I haven’t seen him in a long time since I moved to New Your Spock and Zoe Saldana’s Uhora translate York, but yeah, he’s a great guy and we are great friends. I think he is really well on screen. super talented and intelligent and It’s hilariously strange. I think she finds it hot, what can I we get on really well, which is why tell you? She’s hot blooded enough, it works so well on screen. You can’t that Zoe Saldana. She doesn’t need manufacture that kind of thing and it would totally suck if we didn’t get any more spice. along, but it’s not just Chris. I mean, I
have such a deep affinity for the entire cast, in particular Zoe. I’ve knownher for 13 years. We met right after I graduated college. The whole lot of us just get on really well and the thing that I realised when doing this movie is these are people that will be in each other’s lives forever. We have at least one more movie left together and that will probably happen sometime next year. Well the shooting, that’s the sense I get, although there hasn’t been any official word on it yet.
Margin Call was the first feature that you produced. You must've felt really happy with the Academy Award nomination, and it was loved critically. How did your production company and the relationship with J.C Chandor start out?
Well we had been looking for our first feature to produce for a while and my business partner, who I have known since I was 15, knew a guy who knew J.C Chandor (Writer/Director). So it was a mutual acquaintance. My business partner rang me and said you need to come meet this guy and I did. He was super cool. I really liked him. He was really intelligent and articulate and laid back and

he told us about the project before we read it. We hadn’t read the script yet and it sounded like the kind of movie we wanted to make. So we read the script and we decided this is it. This is the movie, and then we made it within a year and a half of that time, which is pretty remarkable in terms of how long it takes to get independent films made generally.
pecially with independent filming. My production company has no affiliation with a studio on purpose now. It wasn’t always on purpose, but now it is on purpose. For the first few years I was sort of wondering why we didn’t have an overhead deal, like, why aren’t we getting money? What is going on?
But it just didn’t happen for whatever reason and then of course after Margin Call we could have a It’s actually quite deal wherever we wanted but now different from the we don’t want it, so it’s actually stuff you started out great. Jennifer Paige INTERVIEW By Keith McLoughlin
18
What was life like when very young singing in bars, cafes and restaurants?
It was a great introduction to the music scene. By the time I got my first record deal, I had already performed in every possible scenario - big & small venues, huge crowds, no crowds‌ that gave me the experience I needed to handle the "overnight" burst onto the worldwide stage.
How did the song Crush come about? Were you surprised it became such a hit?
I was dating a guy at the time who was talking about marriage after a couple of dates. It freaked me out and I shared my thoughts with my producer. It became a song - and now that guy no longer speaks to me.
How do you go about writing songs? Do you write lyrics or music first? Are you good at collaborating?
Readers may remember Jennifer Paige from her 1998 smash hit Crush, which reached number one all over the world.
Since then she has released a number of critically acclaimed albums and singles and carved out a very successful career for herself on the other side of the Atlantic. Her new project sees her team up with Coury Palermo. The duo releases their debut album GO this month under the name Paige & Palermo. InTallaght Magazine caught up with her to find out more about the singer from Atlanta, Georgia.
I love to collaborate. I generally come up with melodies and lyrics first. I like to work with producers who are musically strong so I can have the freedom to create whatever I want. When I'm focused on chords and arrangements, it slows me down creatively. I like to just see what falls out when I'm not thinking too much about it. Those are usually my best songs.
What has it been like touring around the world especially in Europe; countries like Germany and Spain?
InTallaghtMaster40_Layout 1 07/08/2013 17:26 Page 19
19
Would you ever hope to come to Ireland?
I have been to Dublin for two very quick trips! I love the Irish people so much - some of the kindest, funniest people I've ever met. I've spent a lot of time in Germany since I've been signed to two different German labels. And, Spain is totally my speed. Good food, good people, good music…what's not to like? I love seeing the different places in the world. I've been so blessed to see the world with my own two eyes traveling has been my favorite thing about my career, so far.
Tell us about your new duo act Paige & Palmero? How did you meet Coury Palermo? How well do you work together?
Paige & Palermo came about after a songwriting session with Coury. I went out of town and asked Coury to add backgrounds to the song we had written for my upcoming record. It sounded so good, we decided to write more songs, and that first song we wrote together became a P&P song. It's called Losing You and it's on our current EP, Stay, which was released on June 4. The project has been a labour of love and Coury has become a great friend during the creative process. He's awesome!
How does Stay compare to your solo work?
The sound stays true to my previous work and to Coury's, as well. When we come together, it creates somewhat of a singer/songwriter infused pop.
Would you ever go back to being a solo artist or do you prefer being with Palmero?
Paige & Palermo is a project in addition to my solo work. My most recent release was a holiday record in December of last year, and I am currently working on new material.
I believe in the P&P record and I feel like it allows me to express a different side of myself creatively. It's been a lot of fun. I hope the world will love and embrace the new EP.
What music do you like to listen to?
I love Ellie Goulding, Imagine Dragons, Lissie…there's so much great music out there, it's hard to only name a few.
What hobbies do you like to do?
I love to cook, hike, yoga, garden, play with my dogs Chili and Maggie Mae.
What are your future plans, what is in store for the rest of the year?
Paige & Palermo will look forward to touring. We will release GO in August. So excited to finally be able to share some new music with everyone!
Thanks everyone for your loyalty throughout the years. It means the world to me!
Paige & Palermo’s second EP, GO was released on August 6 and is available from all the usual outlets.

Who are your influences? Russell Hogg is a singer songwriter from Tallaght. We reviewed his new debut album Man On Fire in our last edition.
InTallaght Magazine met up with him to chat about his hopes for his career, the Irish music scene and the album.
For our readers who haven’t heard you or your music before how would you describe your style?
A lot of the Irish singer-songwriters. Damien Rice, Luka Bloom, Mark Geary, Josh Ritter and of course all the classics. You can’t call yourself a songwriter if you don’t listen to Bob Dylan!
What are your thoughts on the Irish music scene at the moment?
What are your targets career wise?
I have absolutely no interest in being a one hit wonder, that wouldn’t be something I would aim for at all! I would like to have a career like someone like Josh Ritter, who is someone I admire very much. Being able to travel around doing gigs and festivals and make a living like that.

There’s the scene and the industry. The scene is as big as it’s ever been and as diverse and as talented as it’s ever been. There’s a vast amount of talent from every type of genre from singer-songwriters to soul and punk, there’s a massive punk scene.
Unless you’re willing to go out and support independent bands and musicians then you wont have a choice. I understand not everyone is that interested enough to do that though, which is fair enough. Nowadays we’ve probably got too much choice really.

Level 1 was no place for the faint hearted on Saturday August 2 as it was invaded by all sorts of strange creatures. The latest in our events here at the Square saw a host of reptiles such as snakes lizards and geckos visit the Centre.
The animal handlers were very impressed with the questions they were asked and remarked that: “The kids of the Square are a very inquisitive bunch!’ Cheeky Monkey was of course in attendance as well as our face painters and an art and crafts table for those that did not want to get too close!
There was great interest in the event and Mary Collins from Aylesbury was very impressed: "The Square are really doing a great job lately having these events, the kids think it’s great” and Suzanne O’Brien from Cushlawn said "It's great for the kids. They love it, I came down especially for it". Keep an eye on our Facebook page for details of our next great event!

THE LONE RANGER By Rachel Lynch
Johnny Depp is synonymous with his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in The Pirates of The Caribbean.
So it’s not surprising that the filmmaking team behind that blockbuster franchise have cast him again.Disney/Jerry Bruckheimer Films bring you The Lone Ranger, a thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes.
Director Gore Verbinski weaves a rousing, captivating tale that incorporates back stories for both the Ranger and Tonto, explaining how each came with haunting personal motives to the quest that ultimately unites them against a monstrous outlaw, with a taste for blood and a greedy expansionist railroad baron.

X-Files Anniversary Reunion
Matt even visited the Doctor Who stand where he posed for a picture next to a giant poster of himself, but no one realised who he was.
The 57-year-old star fitted in perfectly with the crowd at San Diego’s Comic-Con, because most fans turn up wearing costumes anyway. He went completely unnoticed strolling around the event, only revealing his true identity when he took to the stage for a Q & A session with fans.
The biggest question concerning the franchise dealt with the possibility of a third XFiles movie and the panelists skirted the question like pros, though Carter left it open.
Jennifer Lawrence star struck
Comic-Con super fan
Doctor Who star Matt Smith disguised himself as Bart Simpson so he could walk around Comic-Con without being mobbed by fans. Matt revealed in a backstage video for BBC America: "I'm going on the floor as Bart Simpson because I love The Simpsons and I'm going to go and check it out."
Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence, a star in her own right, became star struck herself when she spotted the iconic actor Jeff Bridges on the red carpet at the Comic -Con convention.
“Oh my God, I'm like your biggest fan, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry for interrupting you, there's cameras everywhere,” she told Bridges after literally jumping into his arms. Invited to continue the interview herself, she managed to regain some composure and be her usual funny self.
Bryan Cranston, the star of hit US series Breaking Bad also went incognito at ComicCon this year. He covered up his face with a mask of his own character Walter White’s drug lord alter-ego ‘Heisenberg’.
It was in 2009 during Comic-Con when Timmy Madere got drunk in the middle of the day and stumbled into Nothing Sacred Tattoo, the closest tattoo parlor to the convention center. He walked out with his first tattoo ever. It was a Green Lantern symbol on the middle finger of his right hand. Since then, it's become a tradition. Every year he comes to Nothing Sacred and gets tattooed by Todd Smithson, a skater who has tribal tattoos covering his face and zero interest in comics.
It’s been 20 years since the seminal Fox show, The X-Files, premiered and to celebrate, stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, former writer (and Breaking Bad creator) Vince Gilligan, creator Chris Carter and key writers and producers made the pilgrimage to San Diego for an anniversary reunion panel.
Doctor Who 50th Anniversary
The first official teaser trailer for the highly anticipated 50th anniversary special celebrating England's famed Doctor Who was revealed at Comic-Con. The trailer has not yet appeared online, and it's unclear when it will officially be posted to the official BBC website.
The teaser, which hypes the special set to debut in the United States on Nov. 23, highlights the meeting of the current Doctor, Matt Smith, and his previous incarnation, David Tennant.

Avengers sequel title and villain revealed
The 2015 Avengers sequel will be called Avengers: Age of Ultron. It follows on from the hugely successful first movie, reuniting stars including Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man and Chris Hemsworth as Thor. Marvel villain Ultron is a rebellious artificial intelligence which creates an android that attacks the Avengers.
The Irish Film Board-funded documentary examines the pressure of running a major TV show, with the term showrunner referring to the person with overall responsibility for the smooth running of such a large scale production (they may be credited as the executive producer too). The film intends to show audiences the huge amount of work that goes into making sure their favorite TV series airs on time as well as the many challenges that showrunners have to overcome to make sure a new series makes it onto the schedules at all! The cameras take us behind the scenes of US TV to meet the showrunners and the team of people who surround them as they go about their work.

Man of Steel director Zack Snyder will act in the same capacity for the follow-up, expected in 2015.

BACKSTREET BOYS In A World Like This
MORRISSEY & MARSHALL I’ve Got A Plan
By Kathleen O’Connor
It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since the Backstreet Boys first crooned their way into prepubescent hearts in 1993.
To celebrate this pretty impressive milestone, they’ve just released their eighth studio album, In A World Like This. To make matters even more exciting, Kevin is back! That’s right, this will be the first album since 2006 to feature the full crew. Backstreet’s back, but don’t expect to hear the old stuff you’re used to from the boys. They’ve taken a slightly different approach to this album, most likely to appeal to the younger crowd of today. At times it succeeds and other times it falls short.
The album starts off with a power ballad, Breathe, reminiscing about a relationship after a breakup. The song starts out with a quiet piano melody accompanied by dramatic strings and then is interrupted by a strong bass line igniting a steady groove for the rest of the song. I thought it was fitting that the first person to sing on the album is Kevin. It’s a nice start that eases you into the rest of the album.
The title track, In A World Like This, is about finding love when it’s needed most and staying together no matter the obstacle. This song is dominated by
By Padraig Conlon
Darren Morrissey and Greg Marshall, collectively known as Morrissey & Marshall, are two lads from Tallaght set to release their debut single, I’ve Got a Plan later this month. It is a wonderfully upbeat song that seems absolutely right for the current times with its message of positivity and the importance of making people laugh. The track opens with Morrissey singing how he’s “got a plan” to make things better, he “needs a hand to make it happen” but he’s fairly sure “change will follow suit.”
acoustic guitar and a heavy drum beat that creates a fun, upbeat pop song that you can’t resist bopping your head along to. At times, this album seems almost formulaic. I would say that the weakest song on the album is Love Somebody because it makes them sound more like teenage boys than grown men.
Some of my favourite tracks on this album, surprisingly, were some of the acoustic tracks. Madeleine, Trust Me, and Try, which are probably some of the strongest songs on the album, mainly because they steer away from a stereotypical boy band sound. A heavy acoustic guitar presence with light drumbeats gave these songs a laid back, soulful element. They come across as a sort of combination between Jason Mraz and James Morrison, and if you didn’t know who was singing, you probably wouldn’t know it was a boy band. I love old school Backstreet Boys, but it was interesting hearing them experiment with some different styles. It’s a definite step away from what we’re used to hearing from them, and I think sometimes it works and other times it just sounds way too forced. They definitely have some fun and catchy songs on the album, but I look forward to how they’ll improve their sound in the future.
Opening with acoustic guitar, the track builds up into a powerful melodic up-tempo chorus where both lads reveal the plan, singing about “how easy it is to laugh, make everyone laugh.” Morrissey & Marshall’s sound evokes some of the classic duos of the sixties and seventies and they cite The Everly Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles and The Kinks as influences. This is a great single that should make an impression on the charts, a feel good summer song bristling with happiness, seamlessly blending rock and roll with folk. Tallaght seems to be brimming with musical talent at the moment and Morrissey and Marshall sound like they’re ready to take on the world.

SPLINTER CELL BLACKLIST

By Cathal Jennings
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist is an upcoming actionadventure stealth game published by Ubisoft.
Following the events of Splinter Cell: Conviction, Patricia Caldwell, the President of the United States, shuts down the corrupt Third Echelon and replaces it with a new special operations and counterterrorism unit called Fourth Echelon – a team of elite operatives drawn from different agencies, who operate in a mobile environment and perform missions assigned directly by the Commander in Chief, led by former Third Echelon agent Sam Fisher. When a group of twelve terrorists calling themselves "The Engineers" initiate a deadly countdown of escalating attacks on United States assets called "The Blacklist", Fisher and his team are assigned to hunt them down and stop the Blacklist countdown before it reaches zero. Blacklist again stars Sam Fisher as the spymaster and commander of the newly instated Fourth Echelon. The game also sees the return of Fisher's old ally, Anna 'Grim' Grímsdóttir, along with new characters such as Isaac Briggs and Charlie
Cole. Victor Coste and Andriy Kobin reprise their roles from Conviction. In November 2010, Jade Raymond from Ubisoft Toronto announced that the studio was developing a new Splinter Cell game. During the Microsoft's press conference at E3 2012, Splinter Cell: Blacklist was officially revealed; the talk highlighted new features for the series including Kinect integration. It was also announced that series veteran Michael Ironside would not reprise his role as the voice of Sam Fisher, with this part filled instead by actor Eric Johnson, who will also be performing motion capture duties. In a "Blacklist" developer diaries Ironside stated that he would not return to voice the character, but instead pass the torch to another actor.
Ubisoft executives said that the change was made to take advantage of new performance capture technology to create a richer experience, with Ironside assisting Johnson in the role. MADDEN 25 By Cathal Jennings
Madden NFL 25 is an American football sports video game based on the National Football League and published by EA Sports for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as a launch title.
The game is one of the first to run on EA Sports' Ignite game engine. In Connected Franchise career mode, players own and manage a National Football League (NFL) team. Players can also move teams to new cities, including international markets like Toronto, Mexico City, and London, or revive historic teams like the Houston Oilers or the London Monarchs from the NFL Europe League. It will be the first time this has happened since Madden NFL 12 for the franchise and Team Relocation since Madden NFL 09.
The game was announced in early 2013. It was shown in conjunction with EA Sports's Ignite game engine announcement at Microsoft's Xbox One reveal as one of four upcoming games to use the engine. Electronic Arts confirmed the game as an Xbox One and PlayStation 4
launch title at its E3 2013 press conference.
Improvements over the previous Madden titles include upgraded graphics, better real-time physics, new running controls, and a reactive environment, including a playing field that wears out in high-activity areas. The next-gen console versions are better equipped to handle these updates due to their extra processing power. Player-character foot tracking is five times as accurate on the newer consoles. The debuting Ignite game engine tracks all on-field players simultaneously in order to predict path collisions for more realistic impacts. The game can also store more animations to make player movement more realistic. The next-gen versions will also include exclusive features, such as an improvement to pass blocking where increased computer player awareness lets the artificial intelligence change priorities mid-play and double-team players, new to the Madden series. These choices are designed to let the player think more like the quarterback instead of retreating every play to evade the rushing defensive players.
Hall of Fame Running back Barry Sanders, who played for the Detroit Lions from 1989 until 1999, won the contest to be featured on the video game's cover over Adrian Peterson of the Minnesota Vikings, with 58 percent of the vote. Sanders becomes the 1st player to appear on the cover of Madden NFL Football more than once (he appeared in the background of the Madden NFL 2000 cover). Electronic Arts later announced that Peterson would be on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game covers, while Sanders will remain on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 covers.

FORD FIESTA By Rachel Lynch
The Ford Fiesta is one of the best selling cars in Ireland.
So when the manufacturers got down to designing the new model it is clear their main focus was on the performance of the car as opposed to a complete redesign. The new model has just received a simple nip and a tuck.
From first glance it’s clear to all that the car is still very much like the old design with a few new features. The face of the car has received the major work most notably with the grille which looks like it has been lifted straight from an Aston Martin. The new feature sits in well with the compact design. The car now comes in a range of 11 striking colours.
There is plenty of storage space inside. Unfortunately practicality isn’t as great further back. The sloping roofline means if you have tall passengers they may find the back seat a bit of a squeeze with head room a little bit tight. The boot space isn’t too big either but do people buying one of these cars really expect a fantastic sized boot? The car also comes with some new technology which is available for the first time. For example you can get it with the Sony stereo which includes DAB digital radio and Ford’s sync system, which lets you control lots of the cars features using voice commands .
The drive itself is exactly what you would expect from any of Ford’s range and it can only be described as excellent. The biggest news about the Fiesta is the introduction Inside the changes to the new of a new three-cylinder 1.0-litre Fiesta are less dramatic but they do Ecoboost petrol engine. help keep the car looking fresh. AirServ Sign Up Seven New Shopping Centres
AirServ, the in-centre radio station provider for The Square, has added seven shopping centres across Ireland to its growing client list, offering advertisers the opportunity to reach a combined weekly audience of over one million listeners. Established in 2011, AirServ creates and runs professional bespoke radio stations for individual retail outlets and shopping centres.
A first for Ireland, the service provides ‘point of purchase’ radio, which can audiotarget consumers in an active purchasing channel where brands have never been able to reach before. In addition, the company is in advanced discussions with a premier fuel and convenience brand to launch a ‘point of purchase’ radio service both in-store and on forecourts. AirServ is the brainchild of Enda Murphy, an advertising professional with over 20 years’ experience who has also worked as a presenter on a variety of radio stations.
“AirServ operates a policy of broadcasting just one commercial in each ad break, offering significant benefits for advertisers and listeners,” he said.
“This ensures no clutter and provides a greater cut-through for brands with no vying for opportunities to be heard, as is the case with traditional FM radio who broadcast three to four-minute long ad breaks.”
“The service also allows for extremely targeted messaging for individual brands with the majority of the AirServ centres having grocery anchor tenants such as Tesco or Dunnes Stores or both.” See www.airserv.ie for more details.

SUMMER TIME By Declan White
You can tell it's summer: The gusty breezes are carrying sweet fragrances right past our noses, As all the plants wave, sing, and dance in their long awaited floral party, Throwing their pollen to each other far and wide, like so much confetti at a wedding, Or young new scholars with their mortarboards, Cast in feckless unison high above their heads. A great hurrah, rippling right across landscapes, As thoroughly and deeply as a shock wave, Of 'long live the season', For it's nature's coronation. The wind, now, it doesn't blow desolately. It is a breathless messenger, carrying its bright backlog, long overdue, Leaving a trail and scattering everywhere.
NATURE, DAYTIME By Declan White

Nature, daytime, is constantly beautiful, Even in the city, it's noticeable. I can hear the evening church bells ringing, even though trucks are rattling by on both sides of the river, with buildings in between. The swinging music of the bells, like sound falling down a stairs and racing back up again, a powerful reminder of something. I'll never know what I'm being reminded of, So I happily whistle the sound instead. That will do.
Declan is 32 and originally from Swords. He now lives in Terenure and works as a security guard. He has just started writing poetry recently.

THE DOLL’S HOUSE By Louise Phillips
I’ve been looking forward to reading this book for a good while.
Louise Phillps first came to our attention last year when we featured an interview with her in the magazine. When her debut novel was released, we were one of the first to get a copy and the same can be said for this one. We love supporting local talent and that definitely describes this author from Bohernabreena.
If you’re a long time reader of my column you may remember that I really enjoyed Red Ribbons, Phillips’s debut. Her second book, The Doll’s House, welcomes back the two major players of the first book.
The book starts with a snippet of a memory, or possibly a fantasy based on memory. This is indicitive of the way the main character Clodagh recalls past events throughout the novel. This fantastical approach adds an extra layer of intrigue to the slow revealing of the complex plot. Clodagh has gaps in her memory which
she thinks may have caused her current problems; mental instability and alcoholism.
She believes something from her childhood is being blocked out by her conscious memory and in order to get better, she needs to get to the bottom of her strained relationship with her recently deceased mother.
Clodagh resorts to visiting a hypnotherapist who unleashes disturbing childhood memories of her father’s death thirty-five years ago. As Clodagh delves deeper into her subconscious, memories of another tragedy come to light - About The Author the death of her baby sister. Again, like Red Ribbons, the book is set in Dublin, though this time it’s more focused on the Harcourt Street Police Station, Ranelagh, Sandymount and Ring’s End. I always like a bit of local flavour and being able to picture the locations of a book from real life. The vocabulary is also unmistakably Irish, but not in a twee way. Certain turns of phrase cement the story firmly in Dublin.
The structure of the book, each chapter headed either by the location or Clodagh’s name, flits between the characters and keeps the momentum going right until the end. I really enjoyed this novel. It builds nicely on the base of Red Ribbons and I’m already looking forward to her next outing!
Born in Dublin, Louise Phillips returned to writing in 2006, after raising her family. She lives in Bohernabreena, where some parts of her debut novel were set. InTallaght magazine first interviewed Louise last year before Red Ribbons was released.

THE IMPORTANCE OF
SUN PROTECTION
With all the recent hot weather, one particular thing is very important - SPF. This stands for sun protection factor. There are a huge number of people in this country with fair skin, freckles and moles, who go red and burn very easily in the sun. So SPF is vital, not only to avoid the discomfort of sunburn, but for the health of your skin. As shocking as it is, skin cancer is the most common cancer in Ireland.
48
The next time you are purchasing SPF make sure it has broad spectrum protection, meaning it protects against both UVA & UVB rays.
UVA rays are the same intensity all day, and all year long. Weather doesn't effect UVA, so there will be the same amount of exposure through wind, rain and snow as there would be on a hot summer’s day. They can penetrate clouds and glass. HONEY SPICED PECANS By Amy Bronee
A warning - these tasty little nibbles are addictive! Pecans are good to begin with, but toss them in a hot melty mess of honey and spice and suddenly there's no such thing as just a few. Have them in a salad, dip them in yogurt, or just pile these sticky candied nuts in a stack and enjoy them as they are.
I think snacks should always be easy to prepare and that holds true here. This snack starts with a mixture of honey, vanilla and spices heated on the stove until ooey gooey, then tossed with the nuts and baked quickly in a hot oven. So quick and a really special treat.

Installing PROPAGATE Decking CUTTINGS
DAVID FRAZER
By David Frazer By David Frazer
Landscape Gardener
CUTTING OUT THE MIDDLE MAN
Propagation by cutting is one of the most efficient techniques of reproducing a plant that is an exact genetic copy of its parent.
This method preserves unique and special plants that have different or patchy results when grown from seed. Cuttings are usually taken from mid-spring through mid-autumn but, with a greenhouse heated propagator or heat mat they can be rooted a lot earlier. If you have a parent plant that is getting a bit old or showing signs of distress and you are a bit worried it might die, then it might be worth taking a few cuttings especially if it means a lot to you or is a rare species. The resulting plant will be identical to the parent plant.
Taking cuttings from shrubs is an easy way you can increase your stock of many popular garden plants at no cost, including hydrangeas, philadelphus, lavender and forsythia.
One of the most popular types of cuttings is a tip cutting - the tip of the bud and a length of stem containing 2 or 3 nodes. Don't take too large a cutting; the growing tip is going to root much faster than hardened wood. Cuttings should be 5 to 10cm (2 to 4in) long.
Use a clean pair of secateurs or a pruning knife and choose healthy, pest-free and non-flowering shoots of new growth. Cut from the parent plant and put inside a plastic bag - add a few drops of water and shake to help prevent the plant material drooping while you're going round the garden taking your cuttings and make sure that you avoid crushing the plant tissue. Rooting hormones can encourage rooting of difficult plants and increase the number of roots on others.

EAT FRESH & COLOURFUL
FRUIT & VEG
We are all familiar with the old saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” but is it true and if so, why?
Well apples may not rank highest on the list when it comes to antioxidants but many important fruits and vegetable do. However since our society has changed so much over the years we rarely eat these essential nutrients relying too much on processed foods instead.
One of the main reasons foods are processed is to extend shelf life of a product which is no doubt essential to the retailer and consumer. Processing also kills harmful bacteria and other micro-organisms too but these procedures also destroy all the vital nutrients and vitamins that are essential to the body. On average, processing can remove up to 80% of nutrients of a product which means that the body is not getting enough nutrients to perform its daily functions never mind to ward off diseases of infections.
Without antioxidants the body cannot protect itself against the stresses and strains of everyday life which often result in a lower immune system thus we gets colds and flus more easily than we should.
The role of antioxidants in the body is to fight off free radicals. Free radicals are groups of atoms or molecules that have become imbalanced due to impaired electrons and because of this they are unstable and highly reactive constantly causing a chain of reactions in the body in an effort to try to pair themselves correctly. Free radicals not only cause cell damage but they are also known to cause and accelerate cancers, cardiovascular disease and other age-relating diseases like Alzheimer’s.
generative and age-related diseases. Nature provides us with thousands of antioxidants in a wide variety of fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains, nuts and legumes to help prevent these diseases.
When your body needs to put up its best defence, antioxidants are crucial to one’s health. For example, carrots contain beta carotene which is essential for maintaining healthy eyes and lycopene which is found in tomatoes is known to benefit prostrate health. Cocoa which is found in dark chocolate is not only good for your heart but it also promotes your mood and cognitive functions. Proanthocyanidins found in cranberries and apples can also aid the maintenance of the urinary tract.
Smoking and air pollution are known as external toxins and are a huge and dangerous source of free radicals. The water we drink and the pesticides used to grow our foods all contain free radicals and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol triggers and promotes free radical production within the body. In so far as the saying goes “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” it may very well be true Antioxidants work to stop the chain of reactions indeed. The recommendation is that you eat at of free radical production in the body by pairing least five portions plus, of fruit and vegetables electrons and balancing the molecules thus per day incorporating all the colours of the rainstopping the reaction before or after it has bow for the best sources of antioxidants. The final Score was Dublin 1-16 to 0-14 but it could have been a lot more as the Dubs squandered numerous goal chances early on when points could have been taken to establish a lead. Goalkeeper Cluxton with 0-06 was top scorer in a game, which saw Bernerd Brogan only register a solitary free, and the only goal coming from the speedy Jack McCaffery

Kerry qualified for the semis by dispatching Cavan in a game where they dominated for large periods before some sloppy play allowing Cavan to come close and giving hope to the Dubs who must fancy their chances of beating the Kingdom in a repeat of the classic final of 2011.
On the other side of the draw Tyrone beat Monaghan in a game that provoked a lot of debate in the media due to the cynical tactics of the Tyrone men and Sean Cavanagh in particular. They will face Mayo team who have their tails up after they thoroughly dismantled the reigning All Ireland champions in an astonishing game which saw them score 4 – 17 past the hapless champions.

In this the second part of our interview with new Hoops striker Eamon Zayed he tells us all about his time playing in Iran, from the highs of scoring a hat trick in the Tehran derby to the frustrations of not being paid.

This must have been the last thing you wanted to hear?!
Yeah, absolutely! I’m just standing there thinking “What the f*** have I gotten myself into?” I trained for a couple of weeks but I wasn’t doing great in training to be honest.
How did your new teammates treat you after you arrived?
They weren’t very friendly. It’s completely different when you are a new player in a foreign environment; they’re not that friendly to you. I was a new comer; a foreigner there to try and take their place so there was quite a bit of jealousy. Out on the streets everyone was lovely, they all want to talk to you, they were very friendly.
It must have been lonely for you?
Tell us about how your night unfolded?

Samantha Libreri INTERVIEW By Padraig Conlon

Most memorable season for you?
2011 was the highlight of my time supporting Rovers. Just six years before I had stood in Tolka Park watching the club being relegated, teetering on the brink of extinction because of its financial troubles.
By the end of 2011 I had seen Rovers move to a permanent home in Tallaght, host Ronaldo and Real Madrid, play competitively against the giants of Italian soccer Juventus, win the League for the first time in 16 years in 2010 and then retain it in 2011 while qualifying for the group stages of the Europa League in extraordinary circumstances.

Any funny stories from being a Rovers supporter?
Humour is a huge part of the Rovers experience. The witticisms of my fellow fans never cease to entertain me. But I do get a laugh when fans first experience sitting beside my father. He gets very execited and has this kind of gutteral roar which frightens young children and adults alike!
Favourite away ground?
Why do you think Irish people would rather support English clubs than go and watch their local team?
I have no idea, as I didn’t grow up watching football on television or supporting an English club. But I think if more people went and supported their local side and experienced the atmosphere, the excitement and the sheer joy that live football can bring, they would feel differently about domestic football.
If you could change anything about the League Of Ireland what would it be?

Do you think the League Of Ireland gets enough coverage in the media in this country?
No but I think that’s related to the low attendance figures at many games. If more people supported their local clubs there would be a greater interest and I’m sure it would be better for football in Ireland as a whole.
Do you think Rovers can catch the clubs at the top and mount a challenge for the title in the second half of the season?
I think we were in with a chance in the past few weeks but the 1-1 draw with UCD made it highly unlikely. I think the best we can hope for is a European place and even that won’t be easy.
