iPod Flash Cards

How to Create Flash cards for iPods or Smartphones If you can create a PowerPoint, then you can create eye-catching flash cards for students to download to their iPods or smart phones!

Once you finish your PowerPoint, save it as a JPEG file. Click File > Save as: JPEG.

iPod and smart phone screens vary in size, so try not to cram too much information on one slide.

Tip: for vocabulary flash cards use colorful images to convey the meaning of the word! Look for the creative commons license agreement when selecting photos. There are numerous websites that allow picture “sharing” & photo editing.

Tip: check out these sites

Tip: versions of PowerPoint vary so If prompted to choose “every slide” or “current slide only” select every slide This will allow slides to become separate images that will save in a different folder. It’s important to rename the first nine slides with double digit value (to stay in order).

Tip: the first slide will be slide01, the next slide02, etc.

Get Ready for the Download!

Once you have saved your flash cards as JPEGs and renumbered the first nine slides, you need to create a .zip file containing all your new flash card images.

Tip: .zip file defined According to Tech Target, “Zipping is the act of packaging a set of files into a single file or archive that is called a zip file. Usually, the files in a zip file are compressed so that they take up less space in storage or take less time to send to someone.”

The next few steps will change slightly depending on your computer.

If you are a Mac user, follow these steps: (1) press [ctrl] and click the folder that contains your new flash cards (2) select compress “”name of your file”

If you are a PC user, follow these steps: (1) right click on the folder that contains your new flash cards (2) select send to > compressed (zipped) folder (3) if you can not open .zip files try Free Zip Wizard @ www.coffeecup.com/zip-wizard/ Now you have a .zip file that contains your new flash cards. Now you can upload the file to your class website or Blackboard site.
