TheLandConnection.org At Love Hope The Land Connection (TLC) is a Champaign based nonprofit that trains farmers in resilient, restorative farming techniques; informs the public about the sources of our food and why that matters; and works to protect and enhance farmland so that we, and generations to come, will have clean air and water, fertile soil, and healthy, delicious food. TLC envisions a community-based food systems in which every farmer has the opportunity to grow food in a sustainable manner, and every person can access local and organic foods.

TLC offers a range of farmer education courses for potential, new, and experienced farmers. Our community workshops are for those who are interested in learning sustainable living skills and techniques like seed saving and starting, and vermiculture. TLC also started the Champaign Farmers Market in 2015 to give more people access to fresh, local food and more farmers the opportunity to connect with the community.

Love Hope Strength Foundation

LoveHopeStrength.org At Love Hope Strength we turn concerts and festivals into lifesaving events. Through our “GET ON THE LIST” campaign we register fans to the national marrow registry, FREE of charge. All it takes is a simple cheek swab and a completion of a consent form for someone to become a registered marrow donor. The donation process, should someone become a match, is now an outpatient procedure. Most concertgoers revel in the opportunity to give back to the cancer community, which has touched so many of us. All of the testing is financially covered so it is of no expense to you. Incredibly, every time a match is found, we can trace it back to a single event, thus knowing just how many lives Summer Camp has saved over the coming years. A bone marrow transplant is a potentially life-saving treatment for people with leukemia and other blood diseases. A transplant replaces a patient’s unhealthy cells with healthy blood cells from their donor. To date, Love Hope Strength has help register over 100,000 people and locate over 1500 potentially life saving matches for cancer patients in need.

W

e like to think we offer adults the same break from life that we used to experience as a kid going off to Summer Camp. But we realized we were missing something: the Camp Counselor to guide your Summer Camp experience. In 2011, we filled the position of Summer Camp Counselor for the very first time. Our winner, Nicholas Stock, had a once in a lifetime experience that you can learn more about by checking out his blog on our web site. The Camp Counselor is the coolest job at the festival and gets a backstage look at everything the festival has to offer. They also get perks like watching their top 3 performances side stage, the chance to introduce moe., and a private performance by Summer Camp artists at their campsite. In exchange for these perks, they share their experience with the Summer Camp community through blogs, photos and videos. Our Counselor team is always growing and evolving, make sure to stay on the lookout for the 2017 application for your chance at a behind-the-scenes look at Summer Camp!

Thanks so much to all our past Counselors for all their help!

Artist Bios Here at the Summer Camp Music Festival we pride ourselves on bringing some of the most talented musicians and performers the world has to offer to Three Sisters Park every Memorial Day Weekend. We asked our talented Camp Counselors to tell you about this year’s headliners in a way only they can. One of the greatest things to leave Buffalo, New York since the chicken wing, the members of moe. have been our consummate hosts here at Three Sisters Park since the beginning. Summer Camp started as a twinkle in the eyes of the band and a few promoters here in the Midwest. It has grown into a yearly tradition that sees thousands of guests from all over the world. Moe. is made up of Rob Derhak on bass, Al Schnier on guitar and keys, Chuck Garvey on guitar, and the explosive percussion duo of Vinnie Amico on the kit and Jim Loughlin on everything else. Amazing musicians individually, but together they are an unstoppable harmonious wall of insanity. The quintet is a

progressive powerhouse that has toured relentlessly since their early days bumping around Northeast. Moe. has become the torchbearers for not only jam but impeccable musicianship and good ol’ rock and roll. Their faces have been features on the covers of Relix, Guitar World, Bass Player Magazine, and Drum!. They have played at every festival worth mentioning and continue to headline major venues across the country. Combining intriguing harmonies with shred-heavy guitar work, moe. is an experience that should

not be missed. As they near their 30th year as a touring band they show no signs of slowing down. With incredible events year after year including their upcoming co-bill with Gov’t Mule at Red Rocks and their three-day run in Portland, Maine there will be plenty of opportunities to see them in your hometown this summer. So go get you some moe. -Camp Counselor Nicholas

Big Grizmatik

SUN 11:45pm – 1:00am Sunshine Stage

Although considered to be electronic, Big GRiZmatik is far from a typical EDM DJ. The super-group is comprised of three of the grooviest live funktronic acts in the scene: Big Gigantic, GRiZ, and Gramatik. All three acts separately throw down some of the wildest shows you’ll ever attend, but together, the sky is not even the limit as surely you’ll be blasting through space. Big Gigantic is the duo of Dominic Lalli on saxophone and live production, with Jer-

emy Salken on drums. The livetronica pair have been shaping the scene for live EDM since Lalli left The Motet to team up with Salken in 2007, and have played at Summer Camp four times. Grant Kwiecinski is the oneman show better known as GRiZ, who will be back for his third performance at Summer Camp. GRiZ both live produces and peaks all sorts of saxophone timbres, and has even been known to unplug the computer and do a straight funk set alongside fellow SCamp artist Lettuce. Denis Jašarević leads Gramatik on production, backed by New Orleans jazz guitar-

ist Andrew Block. Gramatik is currently celebrating their “Epigram” album release, selling out venues all over the world. Big GRiZmatik shook the world with their first “unofficial” gig headlining a Late Night in The Red Barn at Summer Camp 2013, and then followed that with a surprise set at Electric Forest that same year. With the combined elements of drums, guitar, saxophone, and production, there’s no predicting what funk madness is ahead for Big GRiZmatik.

FRI 12:30am-2:00am Moonshine Stage

Since their formation in Atlanta over 18 years ago, Sound Tribe Sector Nine has carved themselves a comfy spot in the jam and electronic scene. Seemingly effortlessly interweaving

from sold out Red Rocks shows to multi-night New Year’s runs. STS9 formed their own record label, 1320 Records, based on collaboration, cooperation, and community—principles which they stand by. STS9 uses their fame for good and are partners with Conscious Alliance and have food drives at various performances. Through the years, they have raised over $20,000 for Hurricane Katrina victims, as well as raising $150,000 to build a home for a displaced family from Hurricane Katrina. STS9 also travels on tour in their carbon neutral tour bus and their performances are powered by renewable energy. After undergoing a

With Sound Tribe’s musical prowess and continued dedication to making the world a better place, STS9 always excites Summer Camp attendees; both those hearing them for the first time or their die-hard fans. 2016 marks the band’s sixth year performing at Summer Camp, with many special shows and late night displays under their belt in Chillicothe. Excision

FRI 11:15pm-12:45am Moonshine Stage

It is popular opinion in America that Canadians are polite and shy, however that is not the case when it comes to Canadian producer Jeff Abel’s music. Most of you know Abel as an artist who leaves one with a pretty good idea of what kind of bass music to expect - Excision. Many old school bass music fans probably know of his Shambhala mixes, but the more current fans will

recognize him from working with the likes of Datsik, Downlink, Bassnectar and the technological phenomenon known as Destroid. His long awaited album Codename X was released in 2015 and followed his 2011 X Rated release, though there was no shortage of side projects, remixes, and EP appearances in between. This will be his Summer Camp Music Festival debut, having graced sold out venues across the country this year with some

of the most intense production on the road, Summer Camp is pumped to have his near mosh pit-creating bass music on the Moonshine Stage. What will the show and production be like? What do you expect? There’s only one way to find out. It will be assumed by some, but known by anyone who’s witnessed Excision live before, that his Summer Camp debut will be a head banger. - Camp Counselor Sean
