WELCOME! TO THIS NEW SCHOOL YEAR 2019-2020
What a better way to start than to share with you that during the first sessions of the Second Step program we are working on the prevention of Bullying. Students are understanding what it is and what isn't considered bullying, how to prevent it, and how to address it. We have been discussing the importance of the role of the witnesses and the power to report. Another very important topic we have been working on is the proper care of their private parts, by giving them tools that will be very useful from now on and for the rest of their lives. Here are some very valuable resources related to both of these topics so you can work on them at home as well. Remember that the YOU as a parent are the best resource for our little ones to obtain accurate information. ● ● ●

This month we have been working on the “Bullying Prevention unit of the Second Step Program for our Community Building Campaign! in which students are encouraged to learn and develop safety skills that can be applied in daily activities and situations.
Say stop, I don't like it and report it... Let's prevent Bullying that way!
Counseling Tip: Promote in your kids an open communication with you, teachers, school staff and counselors! Give your kids the resources and opportunities to express their feelings, ideas and thoughts.

What makes you UNIQUE? During the first month of school students have been doing different activities within their Houses exploring and defining what a culture of peace in middle school will look like this year. In one of the activities they searched for the most positive aspects of some very unusual "people". The activity reinforced the idea that one can't always judge the quality of a person by his or her appearance; sometimes people can be appreciated for their differences. Students also reflected on what the word PEACE means to them and how it can be practiced by everyone in Middle School community. Understanding and acknowledging others unique traits contributes to cultivating a community of peace.
