The year 2012 will bring us some changes in issues. From now on we will meet more often printing WIadomości Inter Cars. Thanks to this you will be more up to date with all the latest news from the industry and automotive market and with the latest Inter Cars offer. New year will also bring some fresh ideas. One of them is the e-issue of the magazine. E-issues are electronic equivalents of traditional printed magazine, but enriched with multimedia contents(videos, animations), with active links (hyperlinks) to particular web pages. Such innovation is offered to those who prefer to look through the press on the screen of their computers. More traditional Customers will still be offered the paper issue, with new parts and contents. Taking care of further dynamic development of our cooperation and good communication with our readers we have launched two new columns with financial and law advices. We are also enlarging the “Garage” part of our magazine, with technical advices, mostly filling it with more information regarding the truck market. Seasonal topics will be touched in „the topic of the number” and in our technical supplements. New authors will be presented, e.g. Rafał Kosiński, Practical Skills Academy Expert, with which we are cooperating regarding practical trainings. Sport fans will find something for themselves as well, e.g. reports from spectacular sporting events or exclusive rewards, such as softshell jackets, MP5 players and the most modern tablets and coffee machines. Two contests are also very interesting for motorization fans, “Hawk eye” and “Take it easy” are concerning the history of Polish automotive industry. to perform periodic checks of their cars not in OE garages, but in independent ones. According to Alfred Franke, the President of Automotive Spare Parts Distributors Association, 20-30% of new cars owners can now be using the independent garages to perform periodic checks. And 4-5 years ago the number of drivers servicing their cars within guarantee period in independent garages was almost equal zero. The reason for new cars owners for passing from OE garages to independent garages is not only advantage of lower prices, according to Tadeusz Kuncy, GIPA Poland Director, but also bad coverage of OE servicing chain. We mean here mostly makes which market share in registered cars is less than 3 % in our country. They are e.g. Volvo, Mitsubishi and even Citroen or Peugeot. It is a well known fact that the barrier for the driver, which drives the driver away from visiting OE garage is the distance longer than 50 kilometres. Facing those two extreme information, we need

Garage Masters’ Gala is a recurrent event organized for Customers of Inter Cars S.A. Company. Just like EXPO of Spare Parts, Tools and Garage Equipment, this event is now also a fixed part of annual schedule of events organized by the Company.

Comparable quality, price not necessarily Modern cars manufactured nowadays are composed of about 1520 thousand parts. Toyota even gives the number 30 thousand, which includes all, even the smallest parts such as screws! Most of those elements are not changed in the period of running the car. The rest are easily available from independent aftermarket, that is without the logo of a car manufacturer. Thanks to such parts the cost of running the car can be much lower. Car manufacturers order their parts with their own logo, no matter who produces them. Similar (but not always the same) parts are also offered in OE garages – also with car manufacturer’s logo. This is how they create the impression that all those parts are produced in factories belonging to those Companies. But most of the parts, e.g. electronic elements, lighting, engine parts, suspension, brakes, drive transmission systems, are manufactured by independent companies – specialized manufacturers, having their own research and testing centres and experienced constructors and designers. They are companies such as, Bosch, Brembo, Magneti Marelli, Delphi, Valeo, TRW Automotive and hundreds of other companies in Poland, and thousands of them in Europe. „Those companies deliver a part of their production to car manufacturers for the firs assembly, and a part of it they offer to independent aftermarket via the chain of wholesalers, shops and automotive garages. They are the same elements, with only different packaging, logo and of course price” – explains Alfred Franke, the President of Automotive Spare Parts Distributors and Manufacturers Association. Independent manufacturers have a very wide offer of parts for many makes and models of cars, e.g. Brembo has about 1,600 references of brake disks and drums, and TRW has over 1,400 different kinds of brake pads, what covers 98% of European fleet of cars. Of course not all those parts are manufactured only and exclusively for car manufacturers and their needs. They are delivered to the market called parts with comparable quality. Their quality is confirmed by their manufacturer or bay the distributor, and they bare legal responsibility, so the quality must be equal the parts which are used for the first assembly by car manufacturers. But their price is very often much lower. The legal side of this spare parts is regulated

Independent garage: 370 PLN (270 PLN for the parts and 100 PLN for the cost of work). by European Commission Directive 461/2010 together with guidelines, known in Poland as GVO. This directive not only classifies the parts, but also describes in what situations and which of those parts can be used in order not to lose the guarantee for the car, if we have it. Arising from guarantee, free of charge repair in case of a malfunction, can be performed only in authorized OE garage, but periodic check and maintenance services connected with changing running parts can be performed in an independent garage, using original parts (no matter if they are in car manufacturer’s packaging or the packaging of their real manufacturer) or using parts with comparable quality. In case of cars, which are no longer under guarantee, we have a completely free choice. In European Union there are over 90 Directives regarding homologation and certification of automotive spare parts. This means that parts, which are sold in independent garage, can guarantee the Customers the right level of safety and also environmental protection. Source: SDCM www.sdcm.pl

ASO rules, ASO advices, ASO will never betray you?
In this column we will be publishing legal advices regarding automotive industry and garage services. Below example describes the situation of Mr Hare and Mr Wolf, representing independent and OE garage, who met in the court of law in order to settle a dispute, which is so much up-to-date at the moment. Engineer Hare entered law court building very unwillingly. He did not like the whole administration of justice, layers, their self-righteousness and hardihood. But he had no choice – he was sued. Mr Wolf – his former business partner, today owner of OE garage in the capital city of a voivodeship, was already in the court. “XZX’ Chambers talked him into a case, a spectacular case – as they said. „We will get that Hare, others will stop disturbing you and of course our brand!” – in this place they turned to the representative of a well known brand. „The independent should be repairing bicycles” – giggled in their silky suits the layers of Mr Wolf. The Court asked who was the author of the slogan „We repair LEPO and VW”, Mr Hare relied according to the truth – „My grandfather created this slogan in the 30s”. „Do you know the procedure XYZ necessary for the right opening of the door of repaired cars made by KARLAR?” - asked one of the silky layers. „I have passed matriculation, I also have an engineer diploma, and thirty years of experience, full equipment of the garage, I know this procedure, but I try to open the door using a door handle” – replied Mr Hare with a little irritation. Leaving the court of law, Mr Hare wanted to say goodbye to Mr Wolf, send his greetings to his wife. But he did not manage. In his ears he could still hear judge’s words – „The defendant had the full right to hang his advertisements in the form he had done it, and to distribute leaflets showing the logos and using brand names of well known automotive companies – because the advertisement described, precisely and truly, in compliance with the law, his business activities, which was repairing the cars of those well known makes – in a professional way”.

Invest in yourself and your employees – is a slogan which is a motto of the innovative Inter Cars S.A. project – ShowCar. In cities of Poland there will be free of charge technical trainings. Taking care of comfort of participants and top quality of trainings being performed in our new training truck, which had its premiere during the 11th EXPO of Spare Parts, Tools and Garage Equipment of Inter Cars S.A. The new car is air-conditioned and heated training room, most modern multimedia devices (e.g. first LCD television sets, which just by pushing one button convert standard 2D picture into a 3D one), comfortable chairs and lots of other conveniences. “Together with our business partners we have prepared lots of attractive trainings for the year 2012, so that everyone can find something interesting for him. „A very good idea, each year we can notice still growing interest and bigger number of participants of trainings within ShowCar project. The car itself presents very well and causes big interest of people passing by the branch, which is also an additional promotion for each branch (getting more retail customers). Trainings on the trailer are something absolutely different that classical trainings inside a room, not each room is air-conditioned, but the trailer always offers ideal temperature for trainings, which is even more important in the summer. It is an automotive industry, so the idea of meeting on board of a trailer is a 100% good idea. It is for sure an attraction for the participants. „The decision about ContiTech participation in ShowCar project was a typical “bang on”. After the first training in Legionowo we knew, that is was the right decision. Inter Cars S.A. creating its ShowCar project took us to a week long event, during which each participant takes part in five training days conducted by leading suppliers. During this time everyone has a chance to get to know the offer, garage programmes, can get technical support. For us the most important is the possibility of contact with industry professionals and together developing our common passions. I do believe, that for many of us work goes together with passion. ContiTech trainers develop themselves together
with trainings, we are always reacting quickly and responding all the signals coming from the market, that is why each participant is always up-to-date with the most modern news, which are given to us directly from our headquarters in Germany. During trainings we are realizing topics connected with the right parts matching, proper disassembly and assembly of belts in timing systems, reasons of belt malfunctions and ways of preventing them, together with legal aspects connected with spare parts assembly. Besides information aspect of the trainings, all the participants are given a ContiTech training participation certificated and additionally they can buy a Tüvpol Certificate (TÜV Thüringen branch). C1 contest In previous years Inter Cars S.A. customers were offered a possibility of renting Citroen C1 as a substitute car for their garages. Those who decided to take advantage of this possibility were invited to take part in interesting activity, of course in motor sport atmosphere. Each of invited Customers, C1 owners, set one driver to take part in a competition. Despite a freezing weather and wet surface, C1s were equipped with standard road tyres, with no spikes. Participants took the competition very seriously and professionally, that is why they started the day with a training of fast and safe driving. Precious and practical advices and tips were given by Piotr Wróblewski - owner of a Rally School. After the theoretical part, participants could use the knowledge in practice, driving the trial rounds. Everybody set behind the wheels of their cars and tried to go through the track as fast as possible. Additional attraction for the participants was co-drive with Bartek Ostałowski in his Nissan Skyline R34 and co-drive with Krzystof Oleksowicz testing his Subaru Impreza N14. Those of you who do not know it yet, we want to inform that Bartek’s extraordinary skills are that he drives his car in a drift using his feet! At present he has international FIA racing driver licence.

„Each year the cars become more and more complicated, and this forces garage owners to invest in the right devices and tools allowing them to repair and maintain the cars in a proper way. Without the right technological equipment, and also necessary technical knowledge of mechanics, servicing such modern cars would just be not possible” – says Radosła Grześkowiak, Marketing and Advertising Director of Inter Cars S.A. „In line with technological advancement of cars and with growth of customers’ wallets, their expectations regarding a garage are also growing. Today having the right reception and waiting room and other facilities which will be noticed by the Customer is one of the most crucial points. Modern garage must also have a replacement car for their Customers. Most drivers leaving their car even only for one day, expect that the garage will correctly diagnose the malfunction and repair it, but also that it will offer them a replacement car for the time of repair. In the past mostly OE garages offered their customers replacement cars, but nowadays more and more independent garages also have replacement cars in their offer. Also expectations regarding the make and model of a replacement cars have gone up. Very few customers will be satisfied with a more than 10 year old car from the lowest market segment. Customer now expects quite new and reliable car with air-conditioning and other systems commonly installed in modern cars. Just the fact of having a replacement car in the offer has a great influence on choosing this particular garage to perform the necessary repairs, as opposed to the one which does not offer such an advantage. This means that the garage gains new loyal customers, satisfied with the service, as a result it becomes more competitive on the market. In other words a replacement car for the customer is the same investment in its development as purchasing modern devices and tools”- convinces R. Grześkowiak.

Another schools, another HR “Young HR” is a programme created by Inter Cars S.A., which is aimed to cooperate with the schools, by e.g. equipping them with the most modern diagnostic and repair devices for automotive industry. It also delivers the necessary knowledge for educating young HR; it is also a “work trampoline” which helps young people to start their adult lives. The programme supports knowledge contests, and apprentices for the best students. In January this year we have launched Regional Training Centre in cooperation with Practical Training Centre in Grudziądz. The grand opening was visited by vice president of Grudziądz city – Przemysław Ślusarski, the Chairperson of Education Commission in town council in Grudziądz – Joanna Iwanowsa and PTC Director, together with Inter Cars S.A. representatives. The meeting was also participated by BOSCH and CASTROL representatives – the sponsors of the campaign, and also ITS representative, who bare the patronage of the programme. Also teachers and employees of neighbouring garages were present. During the event in Grudziądz, invited guests could hear the speech about current situation in Polish vocational schools. They could get to know all the advantages of participating in Young HR programme. On behalf of Grudziądz city, vice president of the city collected tools and devices which will be used at school for HR education.
In February this year Inter Cars S.A. have given another part of diagnostic devices worth 120 thousand PLN to Construction Engineering School in Gorzów Wlkp. It is one of five schools in Poland covered with the programme „Young HR”, and supervising is performed by Inter Cars S.A. Szczecin Group. The basic thing is to build in garage owners’ minds an opinion that the basis of proper prosperity of a garage is well educated and specialized group of garage employees. In the future, garage owners, thanks to their generosity and openness to new ideas and creating new workplaces for graduates of the schools covered with “Young HR” programme, will get measurable benefits. They will be able to concentrate on core activities and the need of training a mechanic fro the very beginning will not create

„Thanks to right education the chances of getting into adult work life for young generation are growing. Besides highly skilled educating team, we also need highly sophisticated equipment. It is especially important within the process of vocational schooling, where theoretical knowledge has to be supported with thorough practical trainings. The President of Inter Cars S.A. Robert Kierzek received from the Headmaster and the Students a statue. The official part took part in school hall in the presence of teachers and pupils of automotive profile classes. The event was made more official by the performance of special orchestra conducted by one of school graduates and a show of ballroom dancing. At the end all guests could try great dishes prepared by the employees of the school’s kitchen.

The last week of February VIP Club Gold members spent on a picturesque, but at the same time very mysterious Fuerteventura Island. It is a Spanish island, in the eastern part of Canary Islands, on the Atlantic Ocean. The participants could go to nearby Lanzarote island to see the “cosmic” scenery of Volcanoes’Way. Whilst in Poland there were minus temperatures, VUP Club Members were sunbathing along volcano seaside of Fuerteventura island and also swam on a luxurious catamaran.
