PLUMA TYPEFACE illustration
‘Pluma’ (latin for feather) is a typeface inspired by the variety of feathers from different birds. Each character is made up of illustrations of feathers from a bird thats name starts with the respective letter. The process is a cross between both traditional and digital media.

common encounters: editorial & book design
COMMON ENCOUNTERS editorial & book design ‘Common Encounters’ is a metaphysical examination of Wimbledon Common and its local community. It explores the notions of ‘place’ and ‘memory’ and the mutually dependent relationship that binds them. The project involved placing disposable cameras on the Common for local residents to document their time there. The results depict Wimbledon Common visually, from the point of view of an untold number of protagonists in over 200 different photographs. The images were collated in a book thus transforming them from a range of individual separate events into one singular continuous narrative: depicting an assemblage of the difference relationships and connections that are held between Wimbledon Common and its residents. click here to view the full archive of photographs

COMMON ENCOUNTERS film The film ‘Common Encounters’ acts as the counterpart to the book. Where the book focuses on the collective contribution to the project from the local community, the film allowed me the opportunity to express my own ideas independently. The film suggests the transcient nature of place through conveying the effects of passing time and includes a ‘memory sequence’ that relates back to the book. background image from ‘Common Encounters’

PERSONAL WORK / WAYFINDING sculpture & photography To achieve a means to an end in the simplest form; this concept is something that is universal and rooted firmly in the foundation of our consciousness. It can also be applied to the definition of a ‘desire line.’ This work explores the idea of walking as a form of sculpture, creating a familiar and universal element, a common understanding of the necessity to negotiate imposing structures and figures; to either avoid it or destroy it. It poses the realisation that from leaving a path, one does not necessarily have to return. Do you follow a path or does a path follow you? This piece was exhibited at The Rag Factory in 2011

PERSONAL WORK / RUMINATION sculpture & photography ‘Rumination’ is a project in which I used various animal by-products as a means to create art through sculpture and photography. My work often takes shape through a reflection on society, in this case I attempt to remind the audience of the effects of being wasteful and the sometimes callous disregarding we have for food. The work contains elements of irony in that the products are being wasted for the purpose of artwork however I attempted to balance this by eating the subjects in the photographs, if possible, afterwards. However, the wastefuls act that created these pieces work could potentially hold the power to conserve on a much greater scale.

freelance work: web design & development / screenprint
FREELANCE WORK / JAMES WILLIAM MURRAY web design & development / silkscreen print I was comissioned by artist James William Murray to build his portfolio website. Working very closely with the client the design of the website itself was made in collaboration but the development was completed solo. Additionally, I was asked to screen print a photograph of a walnut for the home page of the website. I used a half-tone print allowing the print to have shading, giving it an almost 3D quality.

FREELANCE WORK / BUILDING TEST EXPO web design & development / silkscreen print I was comissioned to create an A4 3-roll fold brochure for print and on-screen viewing, advertising the Building Test Expo in Germany. The target audience was mainly scientists, engineers and workmen. With this in mind the brochure was designed to be systematic and present the information with direct clarity. Additionally, the design of the brochure had to follow the aesthetic of their website which had already been created. (www.buildingtestexpo.com)
