T
his year marked new beginnings for Interface Engineering as we celebrated the opening of offices in Los Angeles and Chicago.
These strategic locations provide our clients with even better access to our innovative team members and shared technical expertise. It also allows for more design collaboration as we continue to develop our portfolio in key market sectors and regions.
9
10
Our Los Angeles office, led by Principal Eugene de Souza (PE, LEED AP, Senior Mechanical Engineer), opened its doors in July 2016. Eugene brings over 25 years of integrated design leadership to his work, and often collaborates closely with clients through the entire project lifecycle. The southern California location not only bolsters our ability to grow and serve our regional clients, it also enables increased involvement in supporting the region’s progressive water and energy efficiency goals. Our local portfolio includes aviation, multifamily, higher education, central utility plants, and master plans.
11
Principal Tom Voltaggio (PE, Senior Electrical Engineer) leads our Chicago office, and brings 40+ years of global multidisciplinary engineering design and management experience to his role. An experienced problem solver for energy consumption reduction, he works effectively with teams to design and implement systems that are the most economically and functionally suited to each project. Tom has a reputation as an effective communicator, which has enhanced his success in leading project teams and maintaining strong client relationships.

To continue building a history of innovation, the Managing Principal group announced our R&D Grant Program. Our evolving field requires new ideas and forward-thinking action, and this initiative provides funding for team members to do true research and development on advanced technologies and strategies. The body of research we accumulate will help us continue to transform our work, our practice, and maybe even our industry.

LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 24
In April of this year, leaders from around the firm convened in Portland, Oregon for a two-day summit, structured to advance and expand the firm’s commitment to management and technical excellence in building sciences, engineering, operations and client service. The primary goals of the Summit were to connect leaders from around the firm, develop firm-wide opportunities for inter-office communication, define our new “pathway to principal” philosophy, and to educate our leaders on topics critical to the firm’s growth and development.

Founded in 1864, Gallaudet University is a federally chartered, private university, with an educational curriculum that is specifically tailored to meet the needs of Deaf and hard of hearing students. The university is known globally as a leader in the educational advances of hearing impaired, drawing the attention of applicants across the United States and over 25 countries world-wide. The first phase included the interior renovation of various science labs and support spaces on 64 the fourth floor north wing of HMB. Additionally, a new pedestrian walkway was constructed between the north and south wings of the fourth floor, creating a link between lab spaces and a new student collaboration area. The second and third phases of work encompassed the interior renovation of the fourth floor south wing of HMB, as well as the renovation of science lab spaces throughout the entire third floor. A new, open stairway bridges the third and fourth floors, creating a sense of unity between the newly renovated space.
