11. Regents are introduced during the speaking portions of the Dinner Dance. Regents sit with their Districts. 12. As you appoint Deputy Regents, keep in mind that one day they may become Regent. It could take eight years for this to occur, then the Regent term is four years. Some of the Regents will go on to become Officers, adding another four years, so a total of 16 years could be involved. 13. You can get mailing labels (no charge) for your District from the Section Office. They are generally mailed on the same day they are requested. Request an updated set of labels for each mailing. 14. You can also request email strings of your District and/or State Fellows. Request an updated string of emails for each blast. 14. Your District can nominate a non-dentist as an Honorary Candidate. Ask for a Sponsor Form from the Section Office. The nomination is made to the Awards Committee. Honorary members must be endorsed by at least five Fellows – exception: only two letters of endorsement are required for technology sector nominees – and must be endorsed by the Regent and Deputy Regent. 15. You are furnished with ICD stationery from the Section Office. You can receive ICD generic envelopes (logo but no return address) by request. Type your letter on the computer using pre-set margins and then print out on the ICD stationery. If you want a stationery template, contact the Section Office. 16. A light continental breakfast is usually served prior to board meetings. 17. Familiarize yourself with the USA Section website, www.usaicd.org. There is much information available, including the Bylaws, committee makeup, and meeting dates. The roster of members is also found here. You must sign in using your unique username and password to see other Fellows’ contact information. Please inform the Section Office if you find stale information for your District. 18. Ultimately, the Regent shoulders the duty of making sure adequate numbers of candidates are nominated from the District. If you only have two or three new Fellows to introduce at the convocation, you have not done your best to identify worthy candidates. Start early, the process takes a while and the classes can fill rapidly near the end (May 15 deadline). 19. You have the power to appoint your Deputy Regents. If they are not doing their job, replace them! Your Deputy Regent can appoint as many Counselors as needed. Keep the Section Office informed of changes to your local leadership.
