The Elementary After School Activity (ASA) Programme has been developed to further support and encourage the personal, social and physical development of our Grade 1-­‐5 students complementing and enhancing the curriculum as well as contributing to whole school improvements e.g. improved behaviour, commitment and attitudes. The programme involves and increase the participation levels of all members of the school community i.e. teachers, aides, parents, outside agencies, administration and older MS/US students. The following webpage link: http://schoolnet.isp.cz/index.php/es/activities publicises each trimester's activities information as well as the on-­‐line application form, which should be completed with your child/children. Once the deadline for on-­‐line applications has passed a placements list is published both on-­‐line and in paper form (outside Room 77 near the Elementary Theatre) on the ES Activities display board.

TRIMESTER 2

Adventure Games Gd 1 2 3 Adventure Games -­‐ Ms Jana C/Ms Suja V -­‐ Elementary Gym -­‐ 2.50-­‐3.50 p.m. -­‐ -­‐ 20 Students take part in vigorous activities working in teams and learning how to respect their and each other's strengths and abilities. The activities include fundamental movement including hopping, skipping and running at different speeds as well as their ability to focus appropriate times. Having fun is always key and opportunities for 'scream time', which most not all like to do at the end of a school

Rhythmic Gymnastics Gd 1 2 3 Rhythmic Gymnastics – Sport Academy -­‐ Big Gym – 3.00-­‐4.00p.m.-­‐ 16 students. Rhythmic gymnastics is an Olympic sport that combines ballet, dance and acrobatics. Athletes u se expressive movement and apparatus manipulation. Apparatus used are b alls, clubs, hoops, ribbons and ropes. Rhythmic gymnastics is perfectly balanced for developing flexibility and strength as well as h and and b ody coordination. It uses the dynamics and flexibility of gymnastics, technical knowledge of ballet and the self-­‐expression and rhythm of modern dance. Rhythmic gymnastics uses elegant and expressive movements as well as developing posture and grace.

Loom Band Creations Ms Elsie P – Room 79 (PK4) – 2.50-3.50 p.m. - 12 Students. Ms Elsie is very excited to introduce a new

activity to the after school activity programme called Loom Band Creations. During this activity students can use their imagination to create anything they wish. Using colourful rubber bands in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere they can make unique jewelry such as bracelets, necklaces and rings or even three-­‐dimensional figures, which they can take home at the end

Bollywood Dancing Gd 3 4 5 Bollywood Dance -­‐ Om Dance Academy -­‐ Elementary Theatre -­‐ 2.50-­‐3.50 p.m.-­‐ 15 Come to a new offering for our ASA programme on the back of workshops during International Culture Week in December. Bollywood is a form of modern Indian film dance, which will surprise you in its expressive elements and colourful techniques fusing all dance styles. It is now a world phenomenon at ISP where students will improve their body coordination through entertaining techniques including the basics of acting skills and dance performance. 2

Wall Climbing Gd 4 5 Wall Climbing – Sport Academy – Big Gym – 3.00-­‐4.00 p.m. -­‐ 9 students. During this course you will learn the principles of safety on the climbing wall, climbing right technique and you will develop your climbing process. Basics of climbing movement, The gear management and handling, Principles of safety climbing on artificial walls, The nodes needed for climbing, Improving climbing techniques, Climbing Fitness Training. Bouldering is climbing form performed just above the ground , without the use of ropes. Bouldering often includes both traverse and vertical climbing. Quickly and increases strength and climbing skills. Bouldering is u sed as a training ground .

Destination Imagination

Gd 1 2 Destination Imagination -­‐ Ms M ichelle M -­‐ R oom 98 (2M) -­‐ 2.50-­‐3.50 p.m. -­‐ 10 students. Destination Imagination focuses on creative thinking and problem solving. Each week the children are presented with an interesting challenge to solve in teams. Challenges vary each week and incorporate many skills such as art, drama, building, music, and critical thinking. Destination Imagination encourages creativity and teamwork while having fun!

Football/Soccer

Gd 1 2 Football / Soccer – Sport Academy – Elementary Gym – 2.50-­‐3.50 p.m. 20 Students. These balanced sessions for Boys and Girls provide a good mix of FUNdamentals including movement, balance and co-­‐ ordination skills as well as learning 'tricks' and the basic rules of the game. Sportsmanship, team co-­‐operation and having fun are promoted at all times. Students should change into appropriate clothing in the changing rooms and wear clean, indoor trainers (Please no studs or cleats).

Chinese Calligraphy Gd 3 4 5 Chinese Calligraphy -­‐ Ms S huang C -­‐ Room 104 -­‐ 2.50-­‐3.50 p.m. – 10 Students will have the chance to learn the basics of Chinese characters writing skills and be introduced the artistry of Chinese characters as well as the culture of Chinese history (there is a very close relationship between the development of Chinese history and the evolution of Chinese characters). If you would like to learn more about Chinese culture, you are welcome to come and join us.

Badminton

Breakdance In the Break-­‐dance class you will learn and master basic techniques of top-­‐rock, footwork, basic freezes such as "Baby Freeze" or "Chair Freeze". Advanced dancers will work on power moves such as "Wind-­‐mill", "Back-­‐Spin" etc. Important p art of the class is of course a proper warm-­‐up, stretching and strengthening exercises. We will work on routines implementing and combining all the techniques. Join us for a fun and challenging Break-­‐dance class!

Judo Judo is now a Paid Activity at 250CZK per session (9 sessions in total = 250x9 = 2250 CZK per student) due to the addition of the belt exams. Kimonos can be bought for 700CZK each, if you so wish, in sizes 120-­‐150cm. Monies are to be brought directly to the Judo sessions and given to the Instructors. Judo is the most popular martial art/sport in the world. We teach students discipline, respect and self-­‐control using the basic principles of martial arts. Judo supports the general physical development of students. During the course we prefer both components: the physical and educational. Boys and girls learn to win and accept defeat. Students will take exams which will lead them to higher technical levels.

Creation Station Gd 1 2 Creation Stations – Ms Allison B – Room 87 (KB) – 2.50-­‐3.50 p.m. – 10 students. Come to this fun activity where you can build your skills as builders, architects, and designers to make amazing models, structures, and objects from re-­‐use materials! Come to the creation station on Thursdays!!

Swimming This is a paid activity where students of any level are invited to improve their swimming skills focusing on different swimming strokes and techniques through formal instruction and fun games. Transportation is provided to and from the Strahov Swimming pool. The cost will be 200 kc per lesson to cover transport and hire of pool and Instructors. Fee to be paid in advance to Mr Choudhury who can be found in Room 77 between 3.00 and 3.30 pm on Mons, Tues and Thurs. Payments can be made once the placements h ave been confirmed.

Writers Club Gd 3 4 5 Writer’s Club – Ms Katherine Z – Room 95 (1K) -­‐ 2.50-­‐3.50 p.m. -­‐ 8 Students. For students who love to write and want more time to explore their interest in creative expression, this activity will provide opportunities to learn and practice new writing tips and tools. We will practice some writing exercises together, look at author's craft in a wide range of books and support each other with our own, independent writing projects. The focus will be on student choice and fun exploration in our writing.

Yoga

Gd 1 2 3 Yoga – Ms Doris L / Ms Jana H – Elementary Gym – 14 students. Yoga is wonderful exercise for the mind and body. Its incredible movements, balanced postures, slow deep breathing and relaxation exercises will help students in many ways including keeping them flexible, relieve stress, build self-­‐confidence and give them the warm radiance of health.

Tchoukball Gd 3 4 5 Tchoukball -­‐ Mr Dean C -­‐ Big Gym -­‐ 3.00-­‐4.00 p.m. 24 Tchoukball is a dynamic indoor ball sport. Originally founded in Switzerland, Tchoukball is a team sport that is played using a back net, sponge and tchoukballs and is based on a basketball court. A wide range of skills are taught including throwing, catching, pivoting and team skills. Come and enjoy something different and explore the world of Tchoukball!

Chess Club This club is for students who already have a basic knowledge of the game and already know how to play. Although some strategies and tactics will be highlighted in each session, the main objective will be to PLAY!! Others forms of chess such as Blitz and Bughouse will also be explored and played.

Garage Band For all music lovers and future production artists – Students will learn how to make songs in Garage Band (and a couple of other online tools) and music videos.

Scrabble Club Gd 3 4 5 Scrabble Club – Ms Christine L – Room 207 (5L) – 2.50-­‐3.50 p.m. -­‐ 12 Students. Students will have the chance to develop a variety of successful game strategies and will use teamwork to strengthen spelling, vocabulary, and even math skills in a fun and competitive atmosphere. .

Kung Fu

Year Long Activities – Please note these Activities are year long enrollment has began at the start of the school year Beginning Dance Grade 1 Basic introduction to various dance techniques including Ballet, Folk and modern dance styles such as Jazz or Hip-­‐Hop. Students will learn how to connect music with movement, how to use space and work together on a choreography. A section of the class will be set aside for free movement expression. Beginning Dance Gr 2

Students will learn basic steps of various techniques including Modern Dance, Jazz Dance, Contemporary, Ballet, etc. Dancers will have fun learning these basics and putting them together with music in short routines that develop their memory and teamwork. They will have an opportunity to find their own improvisation style. This class will help students to improve co-­‐ordination, stamina, technique, rhythm and body alignment. Modern and Street Dance Gr 3,4

Students will explore more advanced movement patterns based on various styles of modern dance and street d ance. The whole class will be structured to include warm-­‐up, stretching, strength building, choreography building and free dance expression. Fun movement will b e complemented by an introduction to correct posture, awareness and care. Dance students will p erform for ES students and parents. A reasonable fee for costumes might apply. Ballet and Contemporary Jazz Dance Gr 3,4

The ballet part of the classes will introduce dancers to the basic positions and techniques of ballet. They will be taught how to hold their body correctly, including how to hold their hands and how to point their toes. Students will practice simple skills such as skipping and jumping to improve coordination, flexibility and body alignment. Contemporary Jazz Dance will introduce more difficult moves but we will use ballet-­‐based movements and will work on theatrical expression which will lead the group creating their own choreographed piece. Strings Aboard Grs 1-­‐ 5 In this PAA, Violin, Viola and Cello players can play music in various ensembles, chamber groups and solo settings. The repertoire will challenge advanced p layers, but will also be accessible for less advanced students. Unfortunately, students without any previous experience i.e. never played an instrument before cannot be accepted. We will regularly perform at ISP Gatherings and concerts. Beginning Band Gr 5 Ms. Wanamaker will be contacting all interested students about trying out instruments very soon after h aving met all of Grade 5. As a result, this activity is will start later than other ASA which will be communicated by Ms. Wanamaker. All students who show interest in Beginning Band will be able to participate. Lights Music Action Junior Gr 1,2 A fun, new blend of music with Orff instruments and easy percussion, choir, creative drama in preparation for the Musical Theatre of Grades 3-­‐5. No materials are regularly needed but students may be asked to bring miscellaneous items from home from time to time. Students/parents will be responsible for providing any costumes for performances. Brownies Brownies at ISP are for girls in Grades 2 and 3. This is a yearlong activity that meets twice a month along with other weekend events. We will combine with the older Girls Scout Juniors and Cadettes on occasion. This is a wonderful activity for girls who enjoy socialising and being creative. We value working as a warm, caring, and supportive group. There will be Gd 2 3 Brownies Registration and Information M eeting in the Blue Room on Tuesday 09th September from 3.15-­‐4.15 p.m. for parents. Then Brownies will start in Room 96 (2L) in the Elementary School every other Tuesday (2 times a month) starting on Tuesday 16th September from 2:50–4:00 p.m. There will be a registration fee of 1500 CZK for first year girls and all girls will be charged a supply/resource fee of 500 CZK for the year. DISMISSAL CONTRACT BETWEEN ISP Parent/Guardian/Student

• My child and I have read and understood the following ISP Elementary Dismissal Procedure and have agreed on a plan of how s/he will safely return home after an ASA. This is a necessary requirement as stipulated on the sign up page for your child to participate in any ASA: • Grade 1-­‐2 students to be picked up from the ASA location by either a parent/guardian/babysitter/older sibling/taxi • Grade 3-­‐5 students will either be picked up from ASA location by a parent/guardian/babysitter/older sibling or return home via taxi or public transport
