A boat to make you happy “We must, therefore, pursue the things that make for happiness, seeing that when happiness is present, we have everything; but when it is absent, we do everything to possess it.” Epicurus I recently ran across some statistics about the purchase of used goods. I must say that I was surprised to find that among all the categories surveyed, the demand for used boats was particularly high. Examining the data collected by Subito.it, the largest on-line portal in Italy for buying and selling among private individuals, you can find out some interesting things. The demand for certain kinds of items has been steadily on the rise, progressing even at a doublefigured rate compared to last year. Looking more closely, we can discover details that testify to a change in habits and attitudes about spending. If it has therefore become imper“What a pity that ative to spend as little as possible, it seems that this behavior can be seen across no use to us.” the board, among different types of consumers, at least, based on the target of the research. At the moment on the portal, in fact, more than 136 thousand Italians are trying buy a used Vespa, more than 60 thousand an iPhone or a Bmw. Plenty of people are looking for a deal on a Rolex and up to 15,800 people, a boat. Probably they are just looking for a dinghy or a raft, but it doesn’t matter. What matters is that it is a precise indication of Italians’ desire to go to sea. A growing desire that those who work in the nautical world would do well to stimulate and satisfy. It is Italy, surrounded by the Mediterranean, the most beautiful sea in the world, where sailing ought to be most appreciated. Europe will soon be a flourishing market for Italian-made boats. Besides the USA, Mexico and surrounding countries, for the moment we need to forget about China. Whoever thought, after having sold a few boats in Asia, that the market there was opening up, has begun to realize that it is going to be a long, hard road and results will be slow in coming. Moreover, in reading the Ultra Hnwi classifications, we see that of people who have more than 30 million dollars in invested assets, 65,579 are North Americans, followed by 54,170 Europeans, 43,026 Asians, 15,230 South Americans, 4,475 Indians, 3,967 Australians
and 2,488 Africans. If we take into consideration that in Italy alone there are over 200 thousand people who possess more than a million dollars worth of investments, we can easily affirm that the sector’s recovery has nothing to do with economics. Besides, for the first time in years, since the onset of the recession, the Italian GDP is expected to rise in 2014. According to the most pessimistic estimates, the increase will be at least 0.5 percent. That the situation is changing can be seen also in the number of last minute requests to participate in the Genoa Boat Show. No one wants to miss out on the chance to take part in the recovery, but just being present isn’t enough: you need to when they are of have something new to show or to say. The old recipes of Oscar Wilde the new world aren’t enough anymore. We need mass communication, newspapers and television to spread the word about the nautical world without wearing the blinders of prejudice. “She saw the motorboat coming at her. She waved her arms so they would see her, but in vain.” The news story was certainly dramatic, but why do we allow these rare incidents to become a major media event, making people believe that the sea is a dangerous place and the chance of accidents is so high? Every day in Italy 590 road accidents are reported, killing an average of 12 people and wounding 842. Last year there were 215,405 car wrecks causing 4,237 deaths with 307,258 people wounded. A dozen or so accidents at sea are nothing in comparison. The media do not give nearly the same emphasis to stopping the ongoing massacre of people in automobile accidents. Not to mention how intensely the Financial Police check out business in seaside tourist resorts heavily frequented by yachts. Unfortunately the social envy of mass media journalists (the purest of the pure) also damage a sector that ought to be presented for what it is: a tremendous opportunity for economic, social, industrial, cultural and tourism growth. Make way for sailing ships The Perini Group sailing ships coast race is at its fifth edition. It takes place from the 28th to the 31st August in the wonderful waters of Porto
Cervo in Sardinia by Camilla Bianchi As of today there are 18 Perini Navi sailing yachts enrolled in this competition which is characterized by great fun in total safety over three days. Yachts enrolled include the new 60m model Seahawk, the 56m Panthalassa and the latest 45m Clan VIII. The 38 m Racing P2 will also be making her debut at this event. After the first edition in 2004, Perini Navi Cups have been held in 2006, 2009 and 2011. The event, organized in collaboration with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, is a must see for all sailing enthusiasts and for the Perini Navi style, one that is synonymous with technological innovation, comfort and sailing performances. A full calendar of social events will compliment the three racing days. The Gruppo Perini Navi has a fleet of 54 boats including 52 sailing ships and 2 motor yachts and it is among the international leaders in the design and construction of large sailing yachts. 14

Interboot 2013 It takes place from 21st to 29th September in Friedrichshafen. It will present all varieties of water sports across seven exhibition halls, at the Interboot Harbor and on the lake in front of the Trade Fair. The comprehensive selection of boats, innovations and accessories will be rounded off by a program of activities and presentations. About 500 exhibitors will present the industry’s innovations and trends for the next boating season. « Mobility exhibitions are one of Messe Friedrichshafen’s core areas of expertise. Mobility on the water is pure pleasure at the Interboot, and that inspires everyone to pursue movement through this element», emphasized Klaus Wellmann, CEO of Messe Friedrichshafen.
Fort Lauderdale Fort Lauderdale hosts the 54th International Boat Show from October 31st to November 4th and visitors from all over the world are expected, as well as a lot of foreign exhibitors. It covers six locations with 280 million square feet of space. As usual thousands of boats ranging from fishing boats to megayachts will be on stand. The visitors will find a lot of attractions and have fun together with workshops and seminars about the nautical world. 22

X-41 World Championship It is scheduled from 22 to 28 September in Naples and the whole category of the Italian fleet is registered in the races organized by the Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia.
«It will be a high level world championship - ensures the President of the Crv Italy, Roberto Mottola di Amato - because the crews of this class are great professionals and experienced sailors. We expect to have about 200 athletes in Naples during the seven days of the event».
Invitational Smeralda 888 Thanks to Gryphon, Bear Essential and Botta Dritta, the top three winners in this edition of the event ,the colors of the Monaco Yacht Club have stand out on the podium. As usual this is the last race of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda sporting calendar. The seven teams have competed in fleet races on board of the one-design Smeralda 888 class, the boat specifically designed for the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda by naval architect German Frers.
Ucina The association is launching the project "Water Poles of European interest" together with the sailing club of Barcola e Grignano, the organizer of the Barcolana. The memorandum of understanding recently signed by Anton Francesco Albertoni and Vincenzo Spina, presidents of the two organizations, provides
a series of activities to be implemented in the short and in the medium term that will strengthen the link between the industrial association and the Trieste sailing club. There are a number of initiatives including promotional activities between the Genoa International Boat Show and the Barcolana Autumn Cup which this year will be sponsored by Ucina.
Myda Seatec, the International Exhibition of technology, subcontracting and design for boats, yachts and ships, at CarraraFiere on February 5 to 7, 2014, is planning the 11th edition of Myda (Millennium Yacht Design Award), reserved for planners, designers, professional architects and newcomers. There will be three sections: A: New Projects: Design as a substantial contribution to the development and innovation of a pleasure boat. Completed projects but not realized yet. B: Dream Boat: design of a one-off in full freedom of expression, in a personal concept, conceptual and formal. C: The boat on a human scale: development of external lines and interior of a sail or motor boat, with a maximum length of less than 10 meters.
Uim Environmental Award Even this year the Union International Motonautique presents the terms and conditions for participation to the Environmental Award dedicated to shipbuilders, racing teams, associations, universities, research studies, companies and non-governmental organizations. It is a prize for those who have innovations for the eco-sustainable solutions and reducing environmental impact. F2 World Championship In recent months a round of the F2 World Championship took place in Baku, Azerbaijan It was the first powerboat race that was held in this country.

The shipyard is continuing with its expansion in Latin America signing a dealership agreement with Pronáutica Chile, one of the most important companies in Chile dedicated to the dealership of leisure boats. Its main office is in Santiago. Let’s remember that Rodman has recently signed two other important agreements for the sale of its boats in Ukraine and India, respectively, with Grand Yachts and SS Marine.
2012 Balance Last year the outboard engine market in Italy recorded a decrease of 26.3% over the previous year but, despite the bleak picture, for Suzuki Italy Marine Division 2012 was a good year. It consolidated its market in Italy and the pool of engines with license reached a market share of 26.5%. The other extremely positive result was achieved in the range of outboard between 20 and 25 horsepower where Suzuki increased its share of the market by 10%. Hydrodynamic foot It incorporates the latest technological innovations developed in the field of hydrodynamics: its strength is the minimum resistance to the advancement in water. The goal of the Suzuki engineers was to enhance the pressure of the flows on the propeller, increasing the performance. The result is increased efficiency and stability of the in-water part, to which is added the reduction of friction. The redesign of the foot has allowed the introduction of two new additional water outlets operating in the lower part, then, with a total of 4 water outlets, two on each side, they have obtained an increase in the capacity of engine cooling.
Volvo Penta A seminar on novel propulsion systems and transmission for applications in yachting was held at the Polytechnic of Milan . The event was organized within the training provided by the Master in Yacht Design. Volvo Penta, by the engineer Belloni - application engineer - and Eng. Piccione- Key Account Manager OEM's – has shown the impact that the Volvo Penta IPS has on yachts performances and design. The IPS is the transmission system with pod superior to the traditional shaft installations in all aspects: maneuverability, comfort on board and performance. The IPS range includes 10 models: from the IPS 350 to the IPS 1200 that correspond to 3 different pod sizes. They are available for double, triple and quadruple installations. 24

Vripack Peters Shipyards together with Vripack, have launched the first-hull tankers for inland waters with Lng electric propulsion. The goal of both companies was to give priority to environmental protection and at the same time, energy efficiency. It has also introduced the Esquire 35, a 10.90 meter long unit with hull and superstructure made of alluminium. It is characterized by windows of elliptical shape surrounded by wooden panels. There is also the project of the 45.5 meter B52, which features the characteristics of those of the 1920s to the 1940s. On the main deck, there is the owner's suite, the cabins for the kids and the one for the baby sitter; an office and a utility room. The lower deck is dedicated to the crew. There is also tender, swimming pool ,equipment for scuba diving and much more for a perfect cruise.
Maserati di Soldini Marina del Gargano Nicola Francescucci, 44, is the new director of Marina del Gargano, the international marina of Manfredonia, inaugurated last July 18th and run by the English network Mdl Marinas from Southampton. The design and construction of the harbor respond to a new marina concept, an open "square" which will allow the mooring in one of the most charming places of the Adriatic coast and also the advantage of using a mooring in one of the other network ports.

Giovanni Soldini and Maserati team crossed the finish line of the Transpac Race 2013 at 3:02:38 Italian ( local time 15.02.38) in second place (class 1). The Italian crew sailed the 2,225 miles from Los Angeles to Honolulu in 7 days, 5 hours, 2 minutes, 38 seconds. Maserati is the first boat without electric winches of Class 1 to the finish of the Transpac. On board Maserati, as well as Soldini, there were eight crew including John Elkann.

After a major refit that lasted more than a year, the company has delivered the yacht Keyla (formerly:Chevy Toy;Stanley Z). The yacht , built by Trinity Yachts, is 45.3 meters long and has an aluminium semidisplacement hull and superstructure. It is powered by two MTU/DDC 16V2000 engines, 3,600 hp. RMK Marine and Hot Lab – Yacht&Design studio in Milan developed the yacht’s refit. The yacht has been extended by more than 2 meters. The electrical systems were updated with the installation of new generators.
The yard presents the new yacht range that will include three versions (33, 40 and 55 m) which will be built in aluminium with a semi displacement hull. These yachts have been designed together with Vripack studio. The concepts will be presented at the Monaco Boat Show.
Lürssen Niki The yard has presented the project of Niki, a hull of 85.10 meters, which will be named Solandge. The exteriors were treated by Espen Oeino, while the interior by Aileen Rodriguez. It is 13.80 meters wide with harmonious proportions that allow you to have impressive volumes while maintaining a sleek line. "The interior has a classic feel with contemporary details that make them unique," said Aileen Rodriguez. Quattroelle At the Monaco Yacht Show the 86 meters megayacht Quattroelle will be presented ; its name is linked to the Italian words love, life, liberty and luxury. It was designed by Nuvolari-Lenard both for external and for internal layout. It has six bridges that allow up to 12 guests large spaces dedicated to relaxation and fun.
Heesen Yachts Mark Cavendish has been named marketing and sales director of the Dutch shipyard. He replaces Fabio Ermetto with whom he has worked closely for several years. Niels Vaessen also joins the management, as chief financial officer, who will work together with Hans Boerakker, director of the production. Together, the three make up the yard’s board of directors.

Eleonora Cavallin, 35, instructor of the school since 2007, is the new president of the Orza Minore associaiton. She was elected unanimously by the new Board of Directors newly installed (composed of the same Eleonora Cavallin, Matteo Bruno, Martino Colnago, Michele Granzo, Constanza Raccis, Roberto Tovazzi and Riccardo Urbani). Michele Granzo was elected Vice President. Constance Raccis was elected Secretary.
The Cantieri Navali Codecasa has launched the megayacht Framura 3. It is a 50-meter, designed to become the flagship of the shipyard’s sport line, which already counts among its models the Codecasa 35s, the 41s and the 45s. It was designed by Andrea Bacigalupo, while the interiors are by Anna Maria and Franco Della Role, who have worked for two years in close collaboration with the owner’s architect.

It will make its world debut at the Monaco Yacht Show (from 25th to 28th September). It was also built to fulfil the specific need of the charter activities, but despite this, is characterized by several notable elements, such as the designer’s research for a solu-

The novelty is the 53 foot yacht of the new Eco Trawler range, that "celebrates" the way of a smooth navigation enjoying the sea, rather than the speed, with spacious relaxation areas and large vertical windows in the saloon. It is Eco because it is equipped with the Ips system , specially designed for this semi-planing hull, and the Volvo Penta engine obtains low consumptions with low CO2 emissions. The “green” project is completed by the solar panels that power some accessories on board. It has three cabins, two with a double bed and one with twin beds, and a fourth bow for the crew. The 54 HT comes from the 54 Fly hull, but it has a new attractive line designed by the Centro Stile. On the deck above the saloon there is an innovative sunbathing area with a hidden electric ladder. The Panama 29 is an easy to use out-board and with a maximum customization engine choice. The Endurance 27 is a stern-drive sport with central helm.

els such as the 717 GT (2010 European Boat) and the more recent 1017 GT and Lido. Miesbauer designed the hull which allows the 858 Fantom a soft and comfortable navigation. The team Kiska was chosen by Frauscher to draw the model applying some innovative and characteristic traits to the distinctive features of the Frauscher boats. It can accommodate up to seven people, it has a comfortable
aft deck, a wide bathing platform and a cabin below deck. The teak deck can be combined with various colors of upholstery. Options include a stainless-steel electrical anchor, a bow thruster for easy docking, an easy-to-use bimini top and a Bose sound system. The Fantom is available with V8 petrol or diesel engines of 300 Hp in a Z-drive configuration and it easily reaches the 40 knots and with the optional 8.2l of 430 hp engine it breaks the 48 knots barrier.

Among the novelties for the 2013 edition is a new international advertising campaign, expanded to include developing nations, multi-lingual social-network communication and a reception desk at the Show dedicated to welcoming international visitors. Recognizing the shift in the geographical origins of potential visitors and customers, in particular from the Far and Middle East, has motivated the organizers to continue and expand their efforts to welcome foreign visitors, whose numbers in 2012 reached 22,000. The design combines “old school romanticism” with contemporary technology. Aeroboat will be a highspeed day boat for up to seven passengers, while at night it will host two people in a cabin with double berths and bathroom. This 14 meters long boat,

Concept 90M/SYD A yacht 90 m long and 13.5 m wide is the first project of the Zuccon Super Yacht Design, brand of Zuccon International Project entirely dedicated to research and development in the maxi yacht market by Alessia Cherubini
The goal of this megayacht project, signed by the Zuccon Syd team, with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, is to reach a very distinctive pattern, strongly architectural, focused on vertical surfaces and limited to a few essential features, resulting in a yacht with a sharp design. Great attention has been given to the external common spaces equipment and to exclusive use for the owner, with the original addition of green areas as greenhouses and winter gardens. There are four decks, along with the sun deck, all connected with central large stairs and an elevator. The lobby takes on
great importance through a double height effect, that gives a strong scenic impact. In the lower deck the transom door could be opened in three different sections and gives access to an ample beach club, directly connected to the lobby by a hallway that goes through the garage and the engine room. The remaining deck is dedicated to the crew, with the exception of the Jolly area, which can be used either as a Cinema, Fitness room or a Spa. On the main deck the cockpit turns into an entrance gate while the external living area has been moved onto the upper deck for maximum privacy. The main deck is entire-

ly dedicated to the guests and the living zone has been divided into three portions: a formal living area, a cinema and a bar area with two balconies (where a great double height visually links the main deck with the upper deck). The guest sleeping area has six double cabins, two of which are VIP cabins with a balcony. On the upper deck the external space becomes the focal point of the life onboard. A clever system of sliding glass-walls allows the transformation of the inner dining area into an outside dining area (patio), creating a unique setting that includes the big swimming pool and the large sunbathing area. On this deck you can also find the steering along with the Owner’s cabin and studio, while on the aft part is the helipad and another relaxation sitting area with sunbeds and sofas. Going up there is the deck entirely dedicated to the owner, with a studio, spa, two large terraces (one on the stern, and the other on the aft) as well as a huge fitness area, positioned for use also by the other guests. The Sun deck is completely open and equipped with a Jacuzzi, a lunch area and an ample sunbathing area. In terms of balancing and functionality, the layout shows clearly how the integration between external and internal lays the foundation for all the living-areas; in comparison to more traditional solutions adopted on similar vessels, the 68

exteriors play a key role in defining the space allocation, coming to the point of physically ‘entering’ into other volumes. A clear example is the use of teak in the dining area on the upper deck: a clever system of sliding glass-walls allows the transformation of this room from an inner-formal into an outside-informal dining area. This concept is further emphasised with the confirmation of the green theme. The aft part of the upper deck is surely another characterizing element, where the majority of outdoor activities take place, thanks both to the abundance of space and the large swimming pool. Another distinguishing aspect, inspired by studies on other living solutions, is the theme of spatial integration between the bridges’ common area; wide double heights allow the bridges to be linked visually and physically, offering potential new opportunities to perceive the space.

Today the results of these operations can clearly be seen in the relaunch of the brand, its products and its entire productive line. The range will include 40- to 60-meter steel and aluminum displacement vessels and aluminum planing craft from 38 to 50 meters long. Among the first under construction are 53-meter model and a 46-meter one, characterized by a very original pro-
The production branch Thanks to a 20 million euro investment over the next few years, the production center in La Spezia is destined to become one of the most important in the entire Mediterranean basin. Two huge, fully-equipped structures will be dedicated to carpentry, mechanics and refitting for boats of up to 55 meters. A third building will handle the construction of new, 60-meter boats, with a capacity of working on six vessels at the same time, for a possible output of four ships yearly. Each structure will also be equipped with a modern, temperaturecontrolled paint booth to guarantee top quality in the delicate phases of installation and painting. The 700 ton travel lift, already present at the shipyard, means that even vessels of up to 60 meters can be hauled and launched. In addition, there are four carriages with an equal capacity. Finally, the company also plans to renew its ties with the military, reinstating an old tradition of the “Gabbiano” brand.

This aluminium yacht is 44 metres long and 8.30 metres wide. It can accomodate 10 guests in 5 cabins, located on the lower deck, as well as 8 crew members. It is the natural evolution of the 44 Fast line, whose first two models were the motoryacht Tatiana per Sempre and her twin Apache II. The outer lines reflect the style of the design firm Francesco Paszkowski Design, while the interiors are by designer Alberto Mancini. Baglietto took care of naval architecture and engineering aspects. All indoor and outdoor furniture is custom made: the sofas, characterised by flexuous, curved profiles and lined with dovecolour Rubelli linen; the steel, glass and Nabuk leather coffee tables and the dark Wengé and satin steel dinig table; the

At the event there were also the designers Carlo Nuvolari and Dan Lenard and the team who followed the yacht development. After appearing in the open sea accompanied by a splendid full moon, the MCY 86 reached the private pier of Key Largo Villa in Cap d’Ail. Here guests could see the yacht up close , with the performance of the famous violinist Saule Kilaite. Once on board, all participants were able to understand the functionality, the design solutions and the quality of the features of the MCY 86, all of which make the boat a yacht comparable to one of higher dimensions. The Monte Carlo Yachts 86 will be presented for the first time to the public at the Festival de la Plaisance in Cannes. At its side will be the other models of the range: MCY 76, MCY 70, MCY 65.

A sense of belonging arises when members of a group feel a connection with one another and a connection to the group as a whole. The owner of a Riva knows that his relationship with his boat is based on more than just the practicalities of needing to travel in safety and comfort. “Belonging” is an emotional, psychological issue. No one can impose a sense of belonging; we can only create an environment conducive to making an individual feel welcome to becoming an integral part. The stronger our brand loyalty, the more we feel that it is “ours,” the more we feel dedicated to preserving its value over time. This may seem like an abstract idea, but it is what occurred to me as I was standing on the wharf in Rapallo, just a few minutes before the boats took off for the 78

I was watching a couple of boat owners who were silently observing our festive group of merry-makers from the cockpit of their boat, and I thought, “It isn’t enough to own a 20-meter yacht to be happy.” I would have liked to invite them to join our celebration, but as I was also a guest, I couldn’t. I thought to myself that we need to find a way to deal with unhappy boat owners. Happiness and the desire to be a bit more carefree, at least when we are not working, was one of the main characteristics of this sixth edition of the Riva Trophy. An Ariston, an Aquarama, a Saint Tropez, a Sportfisherman 25’, a Bahamas and a Dolce Vita together with an Aquariva Super, a Rivarama, an 86’ Domino and a 92’ Duchessa were truly the stars of the day. The program began with an actual race, the Rapallo-Vernazza-Rapallo, and ended with a Gala Soirée in Portofino. Besides the speed race, an elegance competition was also held in front of the terrace of the Rapallo Yacht Club. The crews all tried to outdo one another. One even had a truck travel through the night to bring in a delicate, antique replica of the Milan Cathedral to recall the city’s atmosphere in the 80s. Although many of the boats were decidedly “vintage,” they all were in perfect shape, as if they were brand new. Particularly splendid was the refurbished Riva Bertram, owned by a Dutchman. Vhernier, who shares with Riva a passion for fine craftsmanship that respects tradition, but embraces the future, partnered the event. Vhernier’s exclusive line of jewelry was displayed in a fashion show in the square in Portofino. Another partner, greatly appreciated by the boat owners, was Charles Heidsieck Champagne.

Riva 170th Anniversary The event also saw the presentation of a book dedicated to the company’s 170th anniversary (see the May issue of Barche, pg. 70) in the presence of its publisher, Riccardo Sassola. The commemorative volume gave voice to the many people who have been connected with Riva over the years. Alongside captivating images, testimony by restorers, collectors, designers, architects, photographers, managers and staff, carpenters and owners regaled us with anecdotes, emotions and reflections linked to Riva boats.

t’s been 130 years since fans of the sea and challenges gave birth to modern regulations of sailing competitions. The place
was just Naples and in the role of coordinator there was the "Society of racing." To recall the charm and romantic but at the same time exciting atmosphere of those early races, the president of the Royal Yacht Club Savoy Rowing - Giuseppe Dalla Vecchia - wanted a reprint of the Regulations for the races of 1875. And the Gulf of Naples is therefore the natural setting for the vintage yachts gathering that brings to life the old days and allows for a dip in the ancient art of navigation, when the boats were made of wood and there was nothing of modern instrumentation to which we are accustomed today. In particular, the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge is an annual event desired by the Royal Yacht Club Savoy Rowing, in collaboration with the Office of Navy Sports Sailing, reserved to vintage and classic yachts. Among the most famous boats subscribed there were Manta, Marconi cutter of 1935; Naif, winner of the Challenge Durand de la Penne in 2010; Cholita, winner of last year's gathering of Naples, and Emilia, the 12 meters built in 1930 by the Costaguta shipyard in Genoa Voltri. First time, however, for Hallowe'en, Marconi cutter of 1926; Leonore, Marconi sloop in 1925; Voscià, Marconi yawl of 1959 and Bau Bau, a six meters at its 75th birthday. The Italian Navy participated with its fleet: the Marconi yawl Capricia, Corsaro II and North Star. For the third consecutive year, there were also the Classic Dragons, monotype born in 1929 in Norway, which competed for the Eduardo Pepe Gold Cup perpetual challenge.
First day. The boats left the dock of the Savoy Club to move out Castel dell'Ovo. Separate starts for the fleet of vintage and classic yachts and for that of the dragons. The boats were divided into three groups: those with apm (rebate per mile) more and less than 15 meters (classic yachts) and vintage yachts. The wind was steadily increasing and it then stabilized around 11 knots. Moro di Venezia and Polar Star stood out among the classics of more than 15 meters, while Mariquita and Vanity V excelled among those vintage longer than 15 meters. Among the Dragons, Buriana had the best with two tests on two won by the team led by Susan Guidi. Second day. It was the time of the long-distance race, which brought the boats up to the rock of Vervece and back, with excellent weather and sea conditions. The temporary standings in the Vintage yacht under 15 meters category saw Sirius, Marconi sloop of 1937, excelled on Bona Fide Five Tonner of 1899, winner of the Olympic Games in 1900, and on Manta. In the category of vintage yachts over 15 meters Manitou, the Yawl that belonged to JFK, ranked first, followed by Hallowe'en and Mariquita, the only 19 meters S.I. still sailing of the six built. For the Classic yachts under 15 meters Chin Blue (Marconi sloop of 1965 by the shipyard Sangermani) dominated the race. Voscià, Marconi yawl of '5 was in the second place, and Dalgra RYCC III of Savoy in the third. Among the classics of more than 15 meters the podium was all of the Navy with Polaris followed by Bufeo Blanco, Marconi cutter of 1963, and Outlaw, cutter of '63 built by the shipyard Souter. In the Vintage yachts with apm greater than 15 the victory was for Eilean, Marconi ketch in 1936 bought by Officine Panerai in 2007, followed by Manitou by Phil Jordan, and Mariquita by John Caullutt. M
atteo Cervasi is a young entrepreneur who has already accumulated years of experience.
After learning the ropes as an official Pershing salesman and post-sales service manager, in 2004, at only 25 years of age, he founded the Cmm Yacht Service Company in Senigallia, Italy. Soon after, the company began specializing in providing technical assistance and ordinary and special maintenance for yachts between 12 and 40 meters, as well as pleasure boat rental services. In 2007, as the company was

expanding, they moved their headquarters to a larger site in Senigallia, a 12,000 square meter area, 500 of which for offices and a showroom and the rest for boat storage, refitting and service. How did you come to understand that there was a need for services aimed at boat owners? I have always been work- and service-minded. Even when I was little, I liked personalizing objects. This where my ideas for customizing refitted boats come from. Can you make a boat even more exclusive than it was originally designed to be? Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s like when you buy a house, and then you personalize it with furniture and objects. For example, an Italian living in Monte Carlo who owns a Pershing 90â&#x20AC;&#x2122; wanted to have a Jacuzzi installed in the bathroom. Everyone he consulted discouraged him from doing it, but I made his dream come true. What is your strong point? We donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t need to depend on anybody, because we have expert personnel working for us: body shop workers, wood varnishers, laquerers, carpenters and electricians. Do you also overhaul engines? Yes, for what concerns the generators, but for the actual engines, we outsource to two companies we collaborate with. I believe it is best that a BMW engine gets checked by a BMW mechanic and a Porsche engine by a Porsche mechanic. Transmission work is also outsourced. There are cases where rebuilding a boat is more expensive than purchasing a brand new one. This is undoubtedly true. But the sentimental value of a boat where you intend to spend quality free time with your family is priceless. This is why people choose to restore a vintage Riva or other boat on which they wish to spend special moments. This is precisely the case with the Pershing 88, one of the most iconic boats on the market, whose picture has been on the cover of every specialized magazine in the world.

O
ver the course of the years, the collaboration between Roman architect Andrea Vallicelli and the boat building company
from the Marche region of Italy, Isa, has borne excellent fruit. Vallicelli applied his years of experience designing luxury cruise and regatta sailboats to creating sleek and elegant motoryachts for Isa, from the “littlest” sports model, the semi-custom, fiberglass, hydrojet propelled Isa 120, to the majestic 63-meter Kolaha. After a long and successful series of semi-custom models, both in fiberglass and steel and aluminum (Isa 120, 133 and 470), between 2010 and 2013 the company launched two entirely custom-designed megayachts, one 60 meters long and the other 63, as well as three 50-meter models that share a common naval platform, but whose exteriors lines and interior layouts are completely different from one another. The Belle Anna, subject of this article, is the third 94

o f this series, following the Liberty and the Papi du Papi. With the exception of the 60-meter model, the Mary Jean II, all the boats mentioned here have been designed by Andrea Vallicelli. Concluding the panorama, the company has recently delivered a 41meter, custom-made yacht, and the first in a series of semi-custom Isa 140s with hybrid motors is currently under construction, along with three custom-designed models measuring between 43 and 66 meters. The 66-meter yacht is a magnificent specimen belonging to Isa’s new Gran Turismo line, which will include customizable models in a variety of lengths.

What the models will have in common, earning them the Gran Turismo title, is a series of distinctive features such as a straight prow line and austere interiors.
Exteriors What sets the Belle Anna apart is, without a doubt, the design of her stern featuring a pair of slightly curved stairways framing a pair of glass doors which are also curved. This element has already featured on the second in the 50meter series, the Papi du Papi, but in this case the dramatic, twin staircases linking the poop deck to the sundeck above distract a bit from the ingenious closure solution for the beach area. The tender garage, which opens laterally, has been positioned a little forward. The entire stern area is used as a beach club, with a very comfy indoor lounge that opens onto a bathing platform with an electro-hydraulically operated extension which can double its surface area on command. The yacht is owned by a young couple who love to spend their vacations at sea with their children and with friends. For her maiden voyage, they took her all around the Mediterranean, to Croatia, Montenegro and Sardinia, avoiding the more crowded (and trendy) ports, only stopping when they needed to get supplies.

Although the Belle Anna was designed for this purpose, she is, as one would expect for a 50-meter yacht, extremely luxurious. Her interiors, sophisticated and refined, were designed by one of the top names in international interior design: François Zuretti. The main deck, upper deck and sundeck all feature large lounge and dining areas, well distributed to offer a variety of options. Forward of the wheelhouse is a lovely spot for enjoying the open air in utter privacy, whether at sea or anchored in the harbor. The view of the sea and surroundings is guaranteed by a series of details denoting the care and attention devoted to the projectâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s design. Besides the great windows that allow light to pour profusely into the rooms on the main deck and the upper deck, the low bulwarks crowned with thin, stainless steel handrails let you admire the view even when sitting or lying on a chaise-longue on the sundeck. Here, from the arch formed by the unimposing and slightly curved antennas, two canopies may be opened, shading both the prow and the stern.

a lounge and a formal dining area, opens onto a big aft cockpit. Moving forward, past the “official” entry hall, we come to a generous master suite, composed of a study, sleeping quarters and a huge, sumptuous bathroom. Four cabins are located amidships, below decks, where at the owner’s request, a vast massage/wellness center with its own bathroom has been installed. This space converts to a fifth cabin, with a queen-sized bed which can be folded down from the wall. Crew quarters and service areas take up much of forward part of the lower deck and are directly linked to a pantry and to the galley adjacent to the dining room on the main deck. On the upper deck we find not only the wheelhouse, but a comfortable captain’s quarters and a panoramic lounge with a dining area on the terrace, shaded by the overhanging sundeck.

Isa Belle Anna the fine furniture in prevalently warm colors, browns and beiges. The upper deck salon is characterized by splashes of red that light up an environment intended for a variety of activities: cozy corners for playing cards, reading or socializing, perhaps over a drink from the wet bar in the corner of this roomy panoramic lounge. The dominant woods are Macassar ebony and maple of varying hues in the different rooms: golden beige in the master suite, anthracite grey in the sonâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s cabin and pink in the daughterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s, where one wall is covered in hand-painted and embroidered silk, studded with pearls and semi-precious stones. The furniture of the Belle Anna, as is usually the case for privately owned yacht, was created based on precise indications by the owners, who actively collaborated with the interior designer.

he breakwater at Lavagna Marina is where they moor the gigayachts.
It is not terribly crowded, but there are a few of these “behemoths.” The crews on board them are busy cleaning the superstructures, the stainless steel, the windows. It is the end of July. The owners will be arriving soon and everything has got to be shipshape. Among the vessels berthed here is the MCY 86. It may not be the largest on site, but it certainly cuts a fine figure. Its overall length is over 26 meters, though it is official classified as one centimeter shy of that definitive 24-meter limit. There are three decks: the roof of the upper fly deck is a carbon-fiber t-top with an electrically controlled softtop. I barely have time to hop aboard before the electro-hydraulic gangway is withdrawn and we have unmoored. It is a beautiful day, without a trace of mist, since an eight-knot land breeze has swept the skies. The waters of the Tigullio Gulf are calm and perfectly smooth. The engine room holds twin 1800HP Man V12 motors. As soon as we have passed the lights, we start to press down on the throttle. She gains power at a regular and steady rate. Her timing is satisfactory: it took only 13 seconds for her hull to emerge from the water. Little more than 1500 rpm is all it takes for her to plane. At 16.3 knots she consumes 242 l/h. Not bad for a 26-meter craft. Her top rpm reaches 2360. The GPS registers just under 30 knots. Her performance can definitely be labeled “sporty.” Consumption is circumscribed even at top speeds. At full throttle the twin engines “gulp” only 700 l/h. This is a relatively low consumption level, when you consider that many boats of similar lengths can consume up to
a thousand liters per hour at full throttle. The bottom line is that, compared its competitors, the MCY 86 consumes 300 liters less for reaching analogous performance levels. The hull appears to be very stable, and not only in calm waters, but also on the waves we create by our maneuvers. But what is truly amazing is how she comes about. I must confess that I am generally an IPS fan so whenever I board a boat using a shaft propeller, I always wonder why the shipyard did not choose the Volvo pod drive system. In this case, we are aboard a 26-meter boat. It would have been impossible to have a stern drive, even with triple or quadruple installations. The Lazzara shipyard had done something like that, managing to motorize a 92-foot vessel with four IPS 900s, but the size of the MCY 86 means this is not a viable option. It is no wonder, then, that not many manufacturers have attempted to imitate Lazzara’s example. The shipyard’s transmission choice was ZF’s V-Drive, with exceptional results. She comes about in a very tight circle even at quite high speeds. At 2000 rpm we completed a 360° rotation in only 40-50 meters of diameter. The hull, moreover, maintained excellent adherence to the water. The boat did not incline, even though she was able to come about so tightly. You feel safe and secure, even if you are up on the fly deck. It is not only because the hull has been so successfully executed, but also because the boats center of gravity, despite having three decks, is quite low. The decision to use carbon fiber for the fly t-top was not just an esthetic consideration: it helps keep the vessel light and its center of gravity low. Another contribution to her navigational prestige is the Humphree display. An automatic trim control system, the Humphree uses two “blades” rather than flaps. lization was always perfect: positive during displacement phases and almost horizontal while planing. Only at top speed did the slight rocking of the prow mean that the trim registered slightly negative percentage. From the fly deck, we pass to the pilot station on the deck below. It is located fore for optimal visibility. Slightly elevated with respect to the saloon, its windscreen permits a 180° view. Rear-facing cameras whose images are displayed on ultra-flat screen Raymarine monitors on the display panels do the rest. We reenter the marina. Maneuvers are eased by a hydraulic prow propeller and an excellent stern propeller. The bunkered docks of Lavagna are on the right when entering the marina. The MCY 86 needs to fill up because, after I disembark, she is headed to the French Riviera for her official public premiere. I handed the helm back to Federico. I watched him approach the dock. I expected him to head to the back of the breakwater and turn around so that he could dock facing the outward from the marina. Instead, he easily relied on the two propellers to rotate 360° at the mouth of the marina. The space there is quite limited and there are always other boats coming and going. The boat spins around as if guided by a joystick. It seems very easy to handle even in tough maneuvers in tight spots. The main deck sports an open living space with a 360° panorama. The open feeling is provided by the vast windows, the undefined overlap between dining and living spaces and especially by the two, large, lateral doorways, level with the dining table, leading to adjacent balconies. They can be lowered at the roadstead giving the feeling of being right on the water’s surface. The galley is separate and is located in the crew area. Livability is remarkable in this area, too, since the ceilings are over two
meters high and there are separate cabins, one for the commander and another with bunk beds for the rest of the crew. The five-fired induction-cooking stovetop, the side-by-side refrigerator and every other appliance imaginable make for a kitchen worthy of a Masterchef –type TV cooking program, able to satisfy the needs of a large number of guests. Indoor living areas are found both fore and aft. The aft living area offers a traditional set up featuring a large dining table and a linear sofa. The interiors also offer two options that bespeak great attention to detail: one is a bathroom accessible, not from the saloon, as one might think, but from the portside gangway. This allows guests to enter the bathroom after having taken a dip in the sea without passing through the dining room. The door to this bathroom is watertight to avoid any unpleasant surprises in rough seas. Another excellent design solution is the Up&Down poop

This saves space on the fly usually occupied by a davit, allowing for a larger lounge area. The engine room contains a 28 kW generator and an air conditioning system as well as two Seakeeper stabilizers to be used for roadstead berthing. There are two of them, instead of one large one, to better balance the hull and keep it from listing. There are five different layout options for the sleeping areas, from a luxury, double master-suite version with only two enormous cabins to a charter version with five smaller ones. Between these two extremes lies the version premiering here, with four cabins. Aft of the saloon, down some stairs are the VIP cabin and a twin guest cabin. The rooms are spacious with plenty of headroom and the bathrooms seem like master baths. Wardrobes are also abundant. The hallway between these cabins also provides a second access to the engine room. The master suite is accessed instead by a stairway located forward of the saloon. It takes up the entire beam width and includes a vanity, a living room, a bathroom with a separate toilet and a double shower stall. Storage space is not only found in the cupboards and doorways, but also under the bed. Some of the elegant details, such as the alabaster wash basin counter and the bronze headboard, are immediately evident. Nearby the mastersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; suite is a second twin guest cabin. Here, too, the private bathroom is equipped with a separate shower and, just as in the stern twin cabin, the two beds can be pushed together. This particular layout accentuates the separation between the guest areas, located amidships and aft, and the forward crew areas. The same is true for the walkways between the saloon and other indoor areas, allowing the crew to move around without interfering with the guests.
The lateral terraces provide a typical gigayacht-type technological solution, making the 86 even more luxurious.

ight and technology have played a starring role in the design of this 20meter craft. Particularly striking is how much
of her profile is glass: the vast windscreen and generous lateral windows create a feeling of continuum between indoors and out, of contact with the sea. Everything about this yacht speaks of quiet elegance, of ease of being and grace in movement, of rationality and practicality in the layout of living and navigational spaces. This category of boat is characterized by now by having plenty of light and plenty of space; the individual nuances making this boat unique are discovered little by little, in the choic-
es of colors and types of wood, the quality of the upholstery, the thoroughness with which she has been equipped with everything, even down to the dishes. The hand of designer Alberto Mancini is evident on this project. Coming from the world of sports car design, he collaborated with the engineering and design department at Dominator under the direction of engineer Donini. The steel and glass exterior, accented by the teak tabletops and panel lighting in the wheelhouse and on the fly, along with the color scheme of the outdoor sofas, were carefully chosen to create a particular atmosphere that mirrors the interior. Laterally she presents a high-gunwaled, but sleek profile. Her superstructure is low with a profile characterized by the roll bar that flows smoothly out from the fly. This means a higher foredeck that has a dual function: more space in the cabins below and a good spot for a sunbed. A classic combination completed by comfortable side decks protected by strong railings and a deep and ample cockpit adjacent to the bathing platform. The fly is accessible via an external stairway. The secondary pilot station is well protected by a wrap-around windscreen that extends laterally all the way to the base of the roll bar. Each Dominator is unique as far as furniture is concerned, since the boatyard provides a vast range of options in terms of material and components so that each individual owner can custom design the interiors according to his own taste and needs, although Alberto Manciniâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s suggestions are always well accepted. INTELLIGENT SOLUTION A decisive role is played by the ownerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s cabin of the 640: the glass window surface has been extended to the double compared to the previous model to bring a great amount of natural light to this area and to enjoy the contact with the sea. The trial We started off from the jetty of the prestigious, historic yacht club, Compagnia della Vela, with the incomparable backdrop of the city of Venice tempting to distract us from our â&#x20AC;&#x153;journalistic missionâ&#x20AC;? and transform a task requiring careful attention into a pure pleasure cruise. As we leave the canal, we can appreciate how well this Dominator 64 handles. Once in the open waters, we can really enjoy her stability and how smoothly she moves. The twin 1200 hp powerful Man engines take us to planing speed in about 20 seconds with the engines running at 2100, which she maintains until only 13.9 knots, remarkable for over 35 tons of displacement. The trial is being carried out on calm seas. She comes about with little inclination and her turning radius at 26 knots was about 50 meters with no need to change gears. Her low noise level is also remarkable, in great part due to the design of the hull that reduces the impact of the waves. Her wake was well extended and smooth. The structure never seemed at all fragile, not even at the strongest impacts; in fact she seemed ready to tackle even tougher provocations. The work of architect Alberto Mancini has made optimum use of the space available and enhancing it with excellent materials.

he title of this article comes from one of the most famous lines in a cult movie. Which one? Saturday Night Fever. He is Tony Manero, played by John Tra-
volta, and she, his girlfriend. Standing, balanced on the Verrazzano Bridge between Brooklyn and Manhattan, Tony says, “Hey Annette, te gusta lobster?” In our case, though, we’re talking about a lobster boat, and not the actual crustacean. The latest model is the 64 Fly. And its balance doesn’t come from being perched on the railing of a bridge, but from how well the space has been utilized both on deck and below, thanks to the hand of Fulvio De Simoni, the same designer of all the other Austin Parker models. While remaining faithful to the distinctive lines of a traditional New England lobster boat, the 64 has an extra deck, provided by the fly. This means more space so that guests can spread out sometimes and not always be forced to spend time together. There are, for example, three lounge areas: on the flybridge, in the cockpit and the main saloon. There are two sundecks, one at the prow and one on the fly. There are also plenty of dining options, since in addition to the dining areas in the saloon and the cockpit, the table on the sundeck is large enough to offer a valid alternative. The canopy that folds into the frame of the cockpit can shade the entire area. No wasted space. The interior layout proves it. The beam width master suite is located amidships. It has an en-suite bath, of course, situated starboard, which has been fitted with a series of sliding doors so that it can be divided into three distinct areas, containing the shower, the toilet and centrally, the washbasin. This way the two lateral areas can be closed off leaving only the

washbasin in plain view. Since the space is developed vertically and located starboard, there is a large window over the basin looking out to sea, giving the room a wide-open feel. As you gaze out, you don’t feel like you are enclosed in a room, but out in the open. There is no space wasted in the other two cabins (a VIP and a twin) either, where a lot of space is utilized for wardrobes and cupboards. Navigational comfort also means plenty of storage space. The master suite even features a walkin closet. All three cabins have en-suite bathrooms with separate showers. The only defect is that the bed in the VIP cabin could be a bit bigger. At only 179 cm in length, some passengers may end up sleeping with their feet hanging off the edge of the mattress. No one runs the risk of bumping their heads, though, since ceilings are over two meters high everywhere, even in the closet. Also important for space and comfort are the retractable stern platform and the tender garage. (cont. pg.128) Having a stern tender garage, besides being more practical,

means more space on the fly, since there is no need for a davit.
The test The sea is as smooth as Tony Manero’s dance floor, but the 64 Fly is not meant to dance, not even on the waves formed by the wakes of passing boats. The hull is deeply V-shaped and the prow is high enough not to mind rough seas. The electronic throttle guarantees a gradual fuel supply. No jumps, no “gaps.” Everything is perfectly calibrated, which also keeps her from accelerating too brusquely. The two Man engines are pretty powerful, though, because we reach planing speed in only 14 seconds and top speed in 45. She sure doesn’t perform like a lobster boat. At full throttle we get up to almost 31 knots, 30.8 to be exact, while consuming 470 liters per hour. Her cruising range is very wide because 1300 rpm and 13 knots are enough to plane, while the maximum she reaches is 2250. This means a difference of almost 1000 rpm, 27 knots and 340 liters. You can opt for an easy-going, fuel-saving ride, just over planing speed or go for a faster, but more expensive pace. Fuel consumption is rather low in any case, particularly at medium-range speeds. Her turning radius is not particularly tight, but she always stays stable. To complete a 360° turn at top speed, takes more than a 100-meter diameter. Her visibility is optimum, even from inside, since the windscreen is at the right height and is very wide. The control console in the dinette is set rather far back so that at speeds of 30 knots, you need to check the GPS to realize you are going that fast.
125 The fly, especially when you are moored in the harbor, offers more privacy. The engine room is protected by a watertight door and around the two 1,200-hp Man there is plenty of room for easier maintenance and inspections. All facilities are close at hand and easy to inspect.

The D11 series has been expanded to be offered in three power classes: 625, 670 and 725 Hp. The D11 series complies with the world’s most stringent environmental legislation, the U.S. EPA Tier 3, which comes into force in 2014. The particulate emissions will then be 40% lower compared with today’s levels To be approved according to the Tier 3 requirements, the levels of particulate emissions must be reduced by 40% and nitrogen oxide emissions must be reduced by 20% compared with the previous Tier 2, which means an emission ceiling of 5.8 g/kWh and NOx.

Not only that, the "recipe" includes observance of quality, safety, reliability and the environment. As part of continuous improvement, this year the company has made several innovations, which we illustrate in detail.
Volvo Penta D11 The new generation of D11 is born. It is based on the latest technology which has been further developed and optimized for marine use by Volvo Penta’s engineering team. The new engine has a peak power of 725 hp. It is compact and powerful with new and improved design. In addition to a larger number of power classes, the in-line sixcylinder diesel engines have been boosted with a large number of technical upgrades. «We have further enhanced our twin-entry turbo where each exhaust pulse now is used maximally to provide charging pressure. This gives an extremely powerful torque even at low revs. The engine responds instantly to control commands and provides a stronger acceleration», says Thomas Lantz, Chief Product Manager at Volvo Penta. The Volvo Penta D11 will become the natural choice for flybridge yachts and sport cruisers between 45 and 55 feet,
which weigh around 20 tons and have high demands on the engine torque when they are planing. Among the advantages there is the on-board comfort: «Thanks to a new and more efficient turbo and air filter with improved noise reduction, the perceived noise levels are reduced. The design helps minimize the on-board vibrations» says Lantz. Thanks to an optimized air and fuel pressure ratio, which gives efficient combustion, the greater power is united with less of an impact on the environment.
Volvo Penta Ips 800 and Ips 950 The current range increases the existing power (600 and 700 Hp) with two new and reliable drive packages – IPS 800 and IPS 950 – both with high torque. They have power levels up to the equivalent of 950 Hp, better driveability and lower noise levels and emissions. The result is a highly fuel-efficient power package tailored for 40 to 60-foot boats. The two transmission systems combine perfectly with various types of installation and with the engine D11 provide power and considerable resistance in the whole range of use. The driveability is great at both high and low speeds; besides, thanks to a new and more efficient silencer, a new turbocharger and an air filter with improved insulation, the sound levels have been reduced by 2 dB and the on-board vibrations are at a minimum. The emission levels for Volvo Penta IPS are already about

loaded with new technology. The V8-430, in particular, meets the US EPA requirements by a broad margin and the V8350 has been certified for Europe (Imci) and use on Lake Constance (Bodensee). With powers of 430 and 350 Hp they are compact and light: they weigh around 100 kilos less than any other engine in the corresponding class on the market, resulting in very competitive weight/power ratio. At the same time they are heavy-duty, fuel efficient and, thanks to the new catalytic converter, emission levels have been lowered. The VVT (Variable Valve Timing) optimises torques at low rpms while maximising the effect at high rpms, resulting in faster acceleration, increate top speed and smoother, better response in the mid-range. The exhaust systems are protected and made of alluminium to lower the weight and their exhaust flow has been optimized to achieve the highest performances. The engines and the exhaust systems are freshwater cooled, as standard. They are equipped with catalytic converters as standard. Like all gasoline engines of the brand, they are fully integrated with Volvo Penta’s Evc electronic platform.
Glass Cockpit It is an all-integrated control and monitoring system that gathers all driver information, including warnings and alarms, which sits on a fixed point in the boat, on one or more high-tech displays. It enables a common ergonomic design for the whole dash-

A major effect of the IS, and boat trimming in general ,is the improved fuel efficiency. With IS in automatic mode, fuel efficiency is always optimized, irrespective of the conditions.
Buyers of Volvo Penta engines and transmissions for leisure applications can look forward to the improvements for the Volvo Penta warranty. The basic limited warranty is extended to up to two years for the whole product and an additional up to three years for certain major components. Accessories purchased simultaneously with engines will also benefit from an extended warranty period. A good warranty means peace of mind together with the cost control advantage. Volvo Penta customers have a complete engine and transmission protection, that means repair or replacement of defective parts, up to the fifth year, so even after the standard warranty expires. As a first step, Volvo Penta will introduce the offer extended warranty for leisure marine engines in October 2013. Towards the end of 2013 will also be offered for commercial engines. The owner purchases the extended warranty when the engine is ordered or within three months of opening the standard warranty by the dealer.

The system is fully integrated with the Evc (Electronic vessel control) and when the boat is powered up all screens light up simultaneously. All settings, including instrument dimming, are carried out concurrently at the helmstation or on the flybridge.
Interceptor System It is an efficient and easy to use trim system, good for boats of more than 40-feet. It is a fully electrical system (no hydraulics) with powerful servos that is integrated in Volvo Penta’s electronic platform Evc (Electronic Vessel Control). The trim blades generate lift and drag that translates into movements on the boat on all three axis depending on needs. The first effect of the IS (Interceptor System) becomes apparent in the acceleration phase and when the boat is about to plane: the bow of the boat is lower compared with boats with traditional trim systems. It planes already at 20-25 knots (instead of the 30-35 knots of boats with traditional trim system). This means greatly improved forward view during the whole plane phase, but also a considerably shorter acceleration/planing phase with reduced forward visibility. Also during sharp turns the visibility improvment is considerable: sight distance of about 300 m and a sector of visibility of about 5,100 mq. The design is super-compact and the Interceptor blades are always applied in even pairs, two or four. It is totally maintenance free, because the blades have a selfcleaning function. They are made of plastic and will not send out an electrical current.

T
he complex of Marina di Varazze, in the green and privileged position, it is
now operating at full capacity and wants to go beyond the concept of the marina, through the long and indisputable experience that AzimutBenetti and its president Paolo Vitelli have decided to transfer from the world of leisure to the port system, playing a key role in the development and implementation of the project. In addition to all the traditional services of a modern marina, Marina di Varazze focuses on the quality of services to the ship owner, on boat and land, and offers houses with a privileged location for those who choose to purchase one of the thirty prestigious apartments overlooking the harbor. It also offers opportunities for recreation, both at day and night. Much attention has been paid to the aesthetics, not only in the buildings, but also in the realization of the green areas. For yachts were created over 800 berths for boats up to 35 meters in length. The piers located in the eastern area of the port, works with both fixed and floating structures and are reserved exclusively to sailboats, while those fixed of the three more Western zones are dedicated to motor boats. The owner can choose to deal with his own boat partially or completely, relying on the nautical support services in the port. On an area of ??about 232,000 square meters, of which 144,000 of water surface, the new complex features, as well as luxury apartments all facing the sea and with independent air-conditioning system, also 900 parking spaces covered and uncovered in the service of the whole compound, restaurants, bars and shops. In addition, Marina di Varazze was the winner of some prestigious awards, including in 2013 the reaffirmation of the ISO 14001 environmental certification, and for the fifth consecutive year, the prestigious banner of the Blue Flag awarded by the FEE, Foundation for Environmental Education, as a recognition for the full adherence to the parameters of marine eco-sustainability and environmental protection. 2013 is characterized by innovation also present in the means of communication with a more interactive port that launches the new web platform (www.marinadivarazze.it), also available in Russian language. The website, addressed both to yachtsmen and guests, is integrated with social media, dynamic and with a 3D map that allows to precisely locate all the local events. In addition, the Navy is also near at hand with smart phones thanks to the App for Android and iOS.
The strong points For 2013, Marina di Varazze, as a proactive response to the crisis in the sector, has decided to continue to invest on the customer, enhancing the quality of the offer, and making a choice of social responsibility by focusing on the environment, with new sustainable initiatives on the territory working in synergy with the municipality, associations and local authorities. It has set an important partnership with Legambiente and a collaboration with the Ecology Service Communication. The port is an integral part of "Riciclaestate", an environmental awareness project that allows ship owners to carry out the separate collection of rubbish thanks to the four new ecological platforms in the marina. In addition to the discounts and privileges in selected national structures reserved for the holders of the "loyalty card", the Marina invests in initiatives and promotions in collaboration with the Association of Traders (Ascom), the Association of Hoteliers and the operators of the port. The "Logbook", like every year, has also proposed for 2013 a season full of events at the dock: from art music to the cabarets to involve all guests and offer them quality concerts and performances with free admission . "We are very pleased with the way with which this 2013 is progressing, as we wanted to enrich the calendar with many free and high-level events - said Giorgio Casareto, director of Marina di Varazze - nationally and internationally renowned artists took turns on our stage for the summer months , while the numerous side events have hosted the best of boating and sport '. In particular, the summer planned an evening in June with the PFM (Premiata Forneria Marconi) who sang De Andrè, concerts with Discoinferno, songwriter and Zibba and the Radiostar. In July it was the turn of Simona Molinari, a cabaret show hosted by Beppe Braida and of the surfing rock concert of the Italian band Sunny Boys. In August, however, there was Soul Nassau and the cabaret musical theatre of Oblivion. For September there will be the closing night (on the 13th) with a concert by Max Gazzè. Further along the quay until October there is the photographic exhibition "Art shots in the Marina: musical images from 2008 to present": 52 panels that trace the musical and artistic history of the port and portray the most important artists engaged in their performance and concerts in recent years.
