Don’t Be A Grinch! Celebrate Christmas Under The Stars at King Edward Park

The weather is getting warmer, the Jacarandas are blooming, and the decorations are going up, which means it’s time to start getting excited for Newcastle Permanent’s Christmas Under the Stars, which returns to King Edward Park on Saturday, 2 December. Starting at 5pm, the free event will be packed with family-friendly fun, including Christmas carols with incredible local artists, children’s activities, and free popcorn to munch on while enjoying a special screening of a hit holiday film! Attendees can bring a blanket and snacks to enjoy on the night, or if you don’t feel like packing a picnic, food trucks will serve delicious local fare. And maybe set aside some cookies and milk from your hamper because Santa Claus is also set to make an appearance. After the sun has set, the screen will light up with our feature presentation, the PG-rated Jim Carrey classic How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000).

Newcastle Permanent Chief Distribution Officer Paul Juergens said the customer-owned institution was proud to continue this wonderful Newcastle tradition. “Christmas Under the Stars is one of the best evenings on the calendar for the whole Hunter,” Mr Juergens said. “A beautiful summer evening spent singing along to songs we all love, performed by amazing local artists, before kicking back and sharing a laugh while watching a hilarious Christmas movie – this is about as good as a night out with friends and family gets. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas is an excellent fit for Christmas Under the Stars. I’m sure grandparents will remember reading the original Dr Seuss book, plenty of parents probably saw this film in the cinema, and now younger members of the community get the chance to see it on the big screen for the first time. “This night also marks the start of our Cinema Under the Stars tour, as we bring this awesome, free experience to 11 towns in regional NSW.” There will also be a FREE shuttle bus service, with details to follow on the Newcastle Permanent Facebook page.
