Enterprise & entrepreneurship Creating, recognising, and exploiting opportunities is at the very core of entrepreneurship; this module is intended to help students develop a greater self-awareness of their own skills and capabilities for enterprise and

entrepreneurship and to develop these.

Enterprise refers to the skills, knowledge, attributes and capabilities that are needed to apply creative ideas and solutions to practical problems or

situations.

Enterprise & entrepreneurship skills This includes creativity, problem solving, detection and exploitation of opportunities, motivation and perseverance, taking the initiative, mobilizing resources, working with others, managing risk and uncertainty and developing self-awareness and self-efficacy (trust).

Entrepreneur Definition Entrepreneur: A person who habitually creates and innovates to build something of recognized value around perceived opportunities. Bolton & Thompson (2005)

7 characteristics of the Entrepreneurial mindset 3. Curiosity An inquisitive mind is very common among entrepreneurs and can strengthen their ability to see things from a new perspective. Always asking questions, looking for different ways of doing things;creating or detecting new opportunities.

Perseverance The determination to persevere through difficulties and challenges and resist rejection and disillusionment is a critical mentality that keeps the entrepreneur going. Seeing the challenges and setbacks as learning opportunities helps keep the entrepreneur focused and optimistic.

Tolerance to ambiguity and risk taking Elasticity and tolerance to ambiguity and change; what has been described in the field of sport as mental hardness; that helps the entrepreneur to face uncertain and difficult situations and still remains open to making risk decisions.

Vision Creating an entrepreneurial vision is an act of the imagination: you see it in your mind before it becomes real in the world; elaborating the vision in reality. Sharing your vision in a way that inspires others, clearly communicating this in a convincing message.
