Shane Williams was a Welsh rugby union player, most famous for his long and successful career as a winger for the Ospreys and Wales’ national team. Williams is the record try-scorer for Wales and is the country’s most capped winger and is widely considered to be one of the greatest players of all time. Having played for the Ospreys, Shane made his debut for the national team and won his first cap by Graham Henry in 2000, as he was a replacement against France during the Six Nations. He scored in his first full start for Wales with a try against Italy in the same Six Nations tournament and went on to score a total of 60 international tries (58 for Wales, 2 for the British and Irish Lions). Williams is also Wales’ record try scorer in Six Nations Championships with 22 and Wales’ record try scorer in Rugby World Cups with 10. In addition, he has scored 6 tries for the Lions in tour games, of which, five were in one game. He was part of the Grand Slam-winning Wales side in the 2005 Six Nations Championship, where he scored tries against Italy, Scotland, and most famously England, the try that helped them achieve a famous 11–9 victory that got their campaign underway. He was then selected to represent the British and Irish Lions for their 2005 New Zealand tour. On 28 June, he equalled a single-game Lions record by scoring five tries in a tour match against Manawatu.

TIME: 08.45am

He participated in a second Grand Slam win with Wales in the 2008 Six Nations Championship, when he scored tries against Scotland (twice), Italy (twice), Ireland, and France, breaking the record on the alltime Wales try scoring list in the championship’s final match against France, when he scored his 41st try for Wales. This try resulted in his father Mark Williams winning £25,000 from a £50 bet placed almost 10 years previously that he’d one day become Wales’ leading try scorer. His performances in the Six Nations led to him being named the player of the tournament. Since his retirement from international rugby in 2012, Williams has worked as a presenter on S4C’s Six Nations rugby programme, Y Clwb Rygbi Rhynwladol, and as a pundit on BBC, ITV, and Channel 4 broadcasts. Shane also commentates on grassroots of Welsh rugby. He was appointed as Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2012 Birthday Honours for his services to rugby. In November 2016, Shane was inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame during opening ceremonies for the Hall’s first physical home in Rugby, Warwickshire. @ShaneWilliams11

The print industry is currently a challenging one in which to succeed. Clients want their printed items more quickly, at lower prices, while expecting quality to remain as high as ever. New equipment can help to achieve these goals but comes with heavy costs of capital investment. Printers who are not operating efficiently will not make large enough margins to afford to continue to invest. The sector has become a game of the “Haves” versus the “Have Nots”!

We launched in Cardiff 2010: We love what we do, but more importantly, we are passionate about our clients’ journey. To us, it’s not how we feel about branding and design, it’s how our clients feel. Our job is to make your business, service and products stand out from the competition in both digital and traditional marketing. We serve clients locally, nationally and internationally, from small independent business to large corporations.

Jen Hall You are unique just like everyone else! The market is bored of hearing the same old “supposed” USP’s being wheeled out – in essence USP has morphed its way out of being unique. The market is too saturated and competitive to use you as the USP. Jen Hall is a straight-talking business coach for service based businesses, coaches and consultants who have a big ambition to be the most desired option in the market and become a market leader. In this seminar, Jen will show you how to create and productise your USP so you can differentiate, dominate your niche and give your industry something worth talking about. TIME: 12:00pm

The Pitch The Pitch is back for another year! Sponsored by Cardiff Council, The Pitch is an opportunity for those with an exciting business idea or proposition to present their elevator pitch to a panel of judges who have extensive business experience. The judges for this year’s The Pitch include Ken Poole, Head of Economic Development at Cardiff Council. Judges will be announced shortly. Each competitor will present their business idea to the audience from the main stage, which should include information such as your marketing and scalability plans, as well as the strategies you plan on using to bring your business to the forefront. The Pitch will be held on the main stage from 11:00am.

SPEED NETWORKING The speed networking takes place at the Introbiz Expo and is completely complimentary.

The concept is designed to accelerate business contacts through facilitated introductions and conversations at speed. By delivering your prepared elevator pitch, your connections will be able to find out a little bit more about you and your business and in turn, their networks will expand too! Generally, during a speed networking session, you’ll have 1-2 minutes to deliver your pitch and ask your connection some questions. This makes the session really efficient and in a matter of half an hour, you could meet around 30 other businesses! Networking can cause some anxiety, even more the most extroverted business professionals. It can be quite a daunting thought, meeting tens of potential decision makers and managers, however,

networking is all about learning and helping each other. If everyone has the same mindset and goals, any speed networking session could prove extremely beneficial and well worth the time investment.

Here’s some quickfire tips on how to make the most out of a speed networking session: B e honest and show respect You will gain from giving A lways have the end in mind B e aware of your personal brand Prepare your elevator pitch

DIRECTION FOR START-UPS Starting a business is tough. Expect to find yourself without a penny for a little while, be prepared to work hard to get your product off the ground and keep it all relatively simple.

HAVE A CLEAR IDEA OF YOUR STORY You should already have a clear idea of your story and ethos. You should have tested the market to see if there is a demand for your products or services and asked for honest feedback from friends and family. Then comes the hard work – actually starting and attempting to grow your business. BE REALISTIC The first thing to think about and consider is that you should give your customers as much value as possible. Be as realistic as possible and don’t outprice yourself. Do plenty of research to ensure that you price yourself as competitively. INVEST YOUR TIME WELL Spend time working on the design and development of your product to ensure that it’s the best it possibly can be. Go and spend time with the developers and see your product in production and distribution. Test it countless times, ask others to try and test and promote feedback and honest opinions. Here is where you need to trust your instincts and follow your passion

48

CONTINUE TO LEARN Remember that you’re constantly learning so make sure you absorb everything you possibly can. Listening, taking advice and learning will all contribute to the success and growth of your business and you’ll be more likely to make smarter decisions. Read relevant books, make notes, invest in some training and you could even ask for the advice and support of a business mentor. SHOW PLENTY OF ENTHUSIASM You should have heaps of passion and enthusiasm for your business. After all, you’ve decided to launch a business which promotes your product or service. Your new and existing clients will pick up on your enthusiasm and sound knowledge and are therefore more likely to support and purchase from you time and time again. Starting a business takes plenty of hard work, grit and determination. Try to think of a gap in the market, address issues that many people face and offer an alternative. You’ll constantly learn, continue to be inspired and in turn, you’ll be sure to grow and thrive.

FUNDING AND BUSINESS GROWTH

One of the biggest fears that the vast majority of start-ups will face is the lack of cash flowing into their newly launched business.

There are a range of funding options available for start-ups. It’s important to dedicate some time to find the right one for you. It’ll depend on your industry, the product or service you’re offering and your future goals but taking the time to find the best funding option for you could make all the difference. Depending on your business, aims and the amount of money you need, you can then start exploring the options available.

BANK FINANCE There are two main types of business finance and these are short-term and long-term. You should have a business strategy for both these periods when considering your financial strategy. You should have documents outlining your business profits and losses, cashflow statements and your forecasts. Knowledge is power and this will help you to make informed decisions when it comes to deciding the best finance options for you. Familiarise yourself with various interest fees, loan periods and ??

CROWDFUNDING Crowdfunding is revolutionising the way businesses and projects are being funded. This funding option allows small businesses to raise money through a large number of investors, customers or lenders to enable the business to grow and thrive. The idea is that through the power of the internet, you could amass small amounts of funding from a number of individuals to grow a business, project, products or cause. There are a number of crowdfunding platforms available so make sure you do your research to find the best available option.

BUSINESS LOANS To grow, most businesses need capital and until you have a steady stream of regular business, cash is certainly going to be a bit tougher to come by. This is the time where you may turn to applying for a bank loan. There are a number of loans available – short, medium or long-term, depending on your requirements. Short term loans are usually the most appealing, due to the low interest you require to pay back. Medium and long-term loans are usually repaid over a period of five years and are appealing for those who’d prefer to pay a lower amount over a longer period of time. Again, you’ll need to research and find the best option available to you.

PRIVATE EQUITY OR BUSINESS ANGELS You may have heard the term “business angels” bandied about but do you actually know what they are? Business angels are private investors who provide financial backing and support to early-stage businesses. Usually, these individuals are wealthy entrepreneurs who have experience in the businesses they decide to back financially. They are able to offer a range of finance options, including shares or equity. This is a bit of a tougher means of finance for start-ups, simply because business angels are not usually found very easily. Nevertheless, plenty of start-ups have benefitted from this form of finance so why not give it a go?

LAUNCHING A

YOUTUBE CHANNEL

YouTube, as a platform, is absolutely booming and its growth knows no bounds. Stuffed with videos covering everything from building tutorials and beauty hauls, to inspiring interiors and parenting advice, there’s something for everyone to learn and enjoy.

STARTING A SMALL BUSINESS PODCAST

Children, teenagers, adults and even the elderly are becoming more inclined to use YouTube to learn, which is why it’s more important than ever to have a channel. However obscure your passion or interest may be, there’s bound to be channel or videos to enjoy.

Research has shown that millions more adults are turning to podcasts, either for entertainment or to expand their horizons. It’s a great way of educating yourselves whilst on the move and by super-focussing on a specific industry or topic.

You and your business should certainly take advantage of the platform. You can link your channel to your social media accounts to encourage viewers to watch your videos, to promote your brand and to share advice on industry related topics. Here are some tips that should help you on your way. WHAT’S YOUR MOTIVATION FOR STARTING A YOUTUBE CHANNEL? If your motivation for starting a YouTube channel is purely for your own promotion, then the platform may not work for you. You should have a desire to advise, educate and inform your audience. It takes time, hard work and dedication to get your channel off the ground and there’s never a guarantee that you’ll make a single penny from using the platform. Some of the world’s biggest YouTubers, such as Zoella, KSI and James Charles, make an absolute fortune from simply posting a video through affiliate links, advertising revenue and brand sponsorships but they’ve been in the game for many years. If you start a channel for fun, to make connections with others who have a similar interest and to educate then you should see some organic growth which can only be great for your business. HOW FREQUENTLY WILL YOU UPLOAD? Depending on the theme of your videos, the equipment you need and the time it takes you edit, the number of times you upload must be realistic. You should have set days on which you upload – the reason for this is so that your audience know and expect a video on a certain day. This builds trust, reputation and engagement within your community.

WHAT’S YOUR SUBSTANCE AND STYLE? When starting your channel, you should have a clear idea on how you’d like the theme of your channel. Try to tie this into your business’ branding for consistency, and try to create a fun and memorable jingle so that your audience get to know you. Include your social media handles to your video, take your time when creating the thumbnails and try to keep a regular filming pattern.

Podcasts are a more personal marketing platform and a way for brands to communicate a message with their existing and potential clients. If you think having a podcast is expensive, think again. It’s arguably one of the more affordable marketing methods – you need a microphone, a recording device, somewhere to save your recording and some good editing software. Get some practice in, and you’re good to go! You should already have a topic in mind for your podcast – it doesn’t have to be completely unique but it should differ from your competitors. This could be in the form of your podcast’s format, the stories you share or even your level of expertise. You could host Q&A sessions with others from your specialist industry or with those who have a keen interest in your product or service.

HAVE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT This goes without saying but you will need to invest some money into your channel. You should have a good quality camera, a tripod, and editing software that you feel confident to use. As you gain experience, subscribers and if you feel like you want to seriously use YouTube as a marketing platform, then you could invest in higher quality equipment, lighting and sound to produce even better videos.

The optimal length of a podcast is around 20 minutes, so when you are editing, you should consider this. Your content should be high quality and engaging, and should be interesting and compelling. You should use the appropriate platform for your podcast – there are a number of free and paid platforms available, depending on your needs. When you’ve recorded, finished editing and are happy with the finished product, then it’s time to promote and attract an audience. You should list your podcast on all the main directories, including iTunes, Google Podcasts, TuneIn Radio and Stitcher.

The great thing about starting a YouTube channel is that it’s completely free, very easy to use, you can expose your business to a completely new audience and you may even find a brand new hobby. You have nothing to lose so why not sign up today?

Although the world of podcasting isn’t easy, it can be highly rewarding to invest your time and money in this marketing method. The hardest thing you need to do is to direct the audience to listen and engage with your podcast but as you build your reputation, follower numbers and engagement, your podcast should grow and with it, a sense of accomplishment and willingness to help others. 50

Supporting, inspiring and educating people battling mental illness through the development and promotion of friendly solutions

We believe it’s 365 days of self care. 1 in 4 suffer with a mental illness but 4 in 4 has mental health so it’s about always looking after ourselves first. In the foundation we provide mental health anonymous meetings so people can have a safe environment to talk and listen. We have mental health coaches who attend. We also have different workshops so we can help people suffering to feel they aren’t alone and there is light at the end of the tunnel. We have created a family feel to it so we continue to support each other. The meetings are free as people can’t afford to always pay for private counselling. We have well being activities to create a healthy body, healthy mind. So exercise is key but we have fun attached to it as we are not looking to create athletes just exercising can make us all feel so much better with a routine.
