ABOUT INTROBIZ Introbiz was founded back in 2009 by Tracey Smolinski. Born in the heart of the recession, today the company is a contemporary success story. Tracey was sent out networking for the very first time on behalf of the company she was working for back in 2007. She didn’t really understand what networking was all about and gave it the hard sell, believing that this was what made a successful networker. After 3 months, Tracey almost gave up completely on networking until she took some very sound advice – something she’s keen to share today. Networking is all about building relationships and trust. Once she started implementing this, Tracey realised just how powerful and effective networking could be and went on to sell over £100,000 worth of business in just 6 months. Introbiz was born from Tracey’s intention to place businesses with their target audiences at 5 star venues and events. As she launched this new concept and business, unsurprisingly, she signed up many new companies to Introbiz - they all jumped at the chance to be placed with their target audience at luxurious venues.
Then, in June 2010, Tracey met her now husband Paul, and he came on board as an operations director in 2012. He came up with the ingenious idea of hosting an annual business Expo in Cardiff. The first Expo of its kind was held in the autumn of 2012 and has since grown significantly year on year and is now officially Wales’ biggest business Expo! Introbiz is now one of the most respected business networks in Wales with hundreds of members and over 70 events held every year. These range from breakfasts, socials, sporting business clubs and international events. We’re extremely fortunate that we attract companies from all sorts of industries and sectors which means that we can connect SMEs with the larger corporations at our events. Head on over to stand 230 and 232 to say hello and learn more about the network and what we can do for you. Introbiz is passionate about making it happen for your business.

We’re encouraging everyone to get involved with the marketing campaign in the run-up to the Expo. If you’re on Twitter, make sure you use #IntrobizExpo and tell everyone on which stand they can find you. KEYNOTE SPEAKER WENDY STEVENS Motivational Speaker
In early 2000, a bitter divorce wrenched Wendy Stevens from her life as a comfortable Nashville socialite, leaving her an unemployed single mother on the verge of losing everything. Date: Friday, 6th November Time: 12:15pm
Like so many baby boomer women, necessity forced her to launch a second career. She drew upon her experience as an athlete and coach to succeed beyond her wildest imagination. In 1980, a devastating head-on collision robbed Wendy of her rocket tennis serve, causing her to lose a scholarship to the University of North Carolina. Undaunted, she enrolled at the University of Maryland, and decided to take up lacrosse. Maryland was building a dynasty, a national powerhouse, jam packed with all American players, and she’d never even played Lacrosse before. But through ability, tenacity, and her whatever-it takes determination, Wendy not only walked on to the team, she became captain and was the most valuable player for the National Champion 1986 University of Maryland women’s lacrosse team. Out of college and into marriage, Wendy and her new husband moved to Nashville where she used her whatever-it-takes
tenacity to walk on again—right into her dream job—building and coaching a brand new Division I lacrosse programme at Vanderbilt University. Singlemindedly employing her vaunted skills in recruiting, coaching, and team building, she catapulted the fledgling Vanderbilt programme to number 18 in the country in its second year— another Cinderella story for her. But just when it looked like divorce had ended her fairy-tale life, Wendy walked on again, this time into the $20 billion dollar annual industry that is personal development, and through tenacity and determination, soon reached the top as a multiple seven-figure earner. She did this by utilizing the same core skills she mastered as a champion athlete
and coach: the ability to inspire with her words, the ability to illustrate with the ups and downs of her own life story, and the unfailing ability to transform crowds into communities, and communities into championship-level teams. Today, she is the CEO of Local Guerrilla Marketing. She recently co-authored Guerrilla Marketing Remix: Best of Guerrilla Marketing with marketing legend Jay Conrad Levinson and continues to coach budding entrepreneurs around the world. Her greatest satisfaction is reproducing the financial success she has achieved in the lives of others. In other words, building a team of champions, and having fun along the way.

Steve is one of the country’s leading experts on grassroots sales and marketing strategies. He’s not a theorist or a guru, but a doer. He left school at the age of 16 with no direction or real qualifications to speak of. At 18, he became engrossed in the power of personal development and goal setting. Then, at 19, with a fresh attitude and a determination to succeed, he found his niche in sales. Shortly thereafter he was invited to become a director of his first company. Since then, he has owned and operated businesses in the UK and USA and has taken them from start up to stock market flotation.
Date: Friday, 6th November Time: 11:15am
He helped grow his last UK business from scratch to £30 million in just 8 years, becoming one of the “Times Top 100” fastest growing and profitable SMEs in the country in the process. In 2005, the company was sold, and he was able to retire at the age of 45. Now he spends much of his time working with organisations, sales teams and entrepreneurs that want to achieve growth and success through improved sales and marketing. Numerous businesses can point

All of John’s achievements came as the result of endless hard work and unwavering tenacity. John is dedicated to showing others how they have the opportunity to do the same and is continually inspired by watching his students achieve the kind of success they thought they could only ever dream of. DERI LLEWELLYN-DAVIES The Strategy Man
Date: Thursday, 5th November Time: 11:00am
Darshana brings with her experience in growing a business fast with what she calls the ’Triple Win’ method. She used this method to run events for more than 500
business owners, to win her company a Guinness World Records title and also to build distribution channels. Darshana is passionate about integrating business with sustainability, healthy eating, adventure and a work-life balance. She enjoys being in business and working with things, thoughts and concepts in all forms and helping them come to market and flourish without friction. But the most important part of any business is the people it helps and supports. Darshana focuses on building a community of like-minded and self-motivated individuals who come together to contribute towards a big vision. Tie that to an engine serving the greater good of helping others and she is hooked.
With Deri Llewellyn-Davies (AKA The Strategy Man), the words adventure and business are brought together in a completely unique way.
That questioning nature is key in his role as CEO of BGI and founder of the Strategy on a Page methodology, as he helps leaders in SME and entrepreneurial companies to take their businesses (and themselves) to the next level.
As the UK’s leading authority on bringing strategy alive, Deri can often be found in CEO boardrooms in a pinstriped suit and in his spare time, climbing the highest summits in the world and wearing some of the biggest climbing boots (just one of his extreme exploits!)
Deri brings a sense of real life and adventure to any audience that he speaks to. His presentations come from experience learned at the coal face (as a Welsh man who comes from a working class background this is something he knows all about!) With over 17 years’ experience of the commercial markets, Deri knows that whatever issues businesses are facing – from funding shortages to management fall-outs, redundancy to bankruptcy – he’s personally been on that adventure and can help!
Deri loves business and adventure in equal measure and the same motivation underpins both: a fascination with life and a curiosity that always leads him to ask “why?” or more importantly, “why not?” as he believes anything is possible.

TRAINING WITH BARRY TRAINING SERVICES Barry Training Services started from modest beginnings, delivering localised training. They have now developed into a national company with 2 training centres based in South Wales. They offer training throughout the UK as well as EU Member States such as Poland, France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Croatia and Turkey. This is due to the high quality training delivered by BTS as well as being able to respond to training requests at relatively short notice. BTS offer a vast range of courses and are constantly adding new courses to meet the ever changing demands of the industry. Some of the latest courses to be added to their extensive portfolio are: IPAF MEWP’s (International Powered Access Federation), PASMA for Mobile Access Towers (Prefabricated Access Suppliers’ and Manufacturers’ Association) and CITB Site Safety Plus courses. With over 25 years’ experience in offering the very latest in health and safety, BTS has developed into a leading health and safety training company. BTS understand that you have to move with the times, so in addition to the above, they are now also able to offer an on-line Asbestos Awareness refresher training course. BTS have been delivering RTITB Lift Truck Training for over 25 years. In addition, they deliver the ECITB/CCNSG Safety Passport course and have done
since the early 90s for entry to petro chemical, power stations, oil refineries etc. to over a 100 delegates a week and to date, have issued in excess of 50,000 passports to successful delegates.
BTS are accredited by various awarding bodies such as the ECITB, CITB, NPORS, IOSH, UKATA, CIEH, RTITB, SQA, IPAF, PASMA, Department for Transport and JAUPT.
Deborah Boyle, Course Development Manager said, “Where possible, if there is a particular course required not listed, we are more than happy to tailor a course to suit a client’s own specific needs. Whilst training can be seen as a lot of red tape to some, the benefits of training people on the correct use of plant and equipment along with making people aware of the dangers whilst working as well as their responsibility to others, has proven to keep each other safe. Every year the HSE release new statistics on workplace injuries and deaths and we’re very pleased to see that the figures released are continuing to decline - this is part due to people being trained to work safely.”
For more information on the services BTS provide, please take a look at our website www.barrytrainingservices. co.uk or contact the office on 01446 743913/ 739457 where a member of our team will be more than happy to assist. Alternatively, if you’d prefer to have an informal chat with our Course Development Manager, Deborah Boyle, on any of our courses, she is more than happy to visit.

NETWORKING TIPS
5
Get involved
6
Listen, learn and connect
7
Follow up
8
It’s not what you know, it’s who you know
Believe us when we say, you’ll get absolutely nowhere stood at the back of a room. We know that entering a room full of strangers can be slightly daunting, but just take a deep breath and introduce yourself. Find someone stood alone and get stuck in!
Ask questions, listen to what your new found connection has to say. Why? This way, you’ll learn more about them as a person, what they do and who they’re looking to connect with. Every connection is different, you never know who they know so bear this in mind. When speaking to someone, try to say their name to build rapport – it shows that you’re really interested in them and what they have to say.
Whilst it’s great to be a part of a business network where you can connect with an array of other businesses, some may find the world of networking quite daunting. Here’s some tips that will hopefully help – make sure you put these to the test!
1
Leave your sales pitch at the door
Nobody likes to be hard sold to. Fact. A better strategy is to get to know a few people on a personal level. This will leave them with a better impression of you and what you do, therefore more likely to buy your products or services.
2
Bring plenty of business cards with you
This is a fairly obvious tip, but one many people forget when networking. Try to attend the events with plenty of business cards with you. Remember, offering a business card should be a trade: you should get one in return. These are key when following up.
30
Introbiz Business EXPO 2015
3
Be patient
Patience is an integral part of networking. Plenty of persistence and patience will be sure to pay off. As you build and invest in relationships, you’ll be sure to see results. Just keep at it!
4
Ask questions
Asking others meaningful questions shows that you are driven, interested in them and what they do, and prepared in advance for the meeting. This shows professionalism and willingness, so make sure you enter every event with a list of prepared questions.
Following up is imperative when it comes to being a successful networker. Try to follow up no more than 48 hours after the event. Some people prefer to be contacted by a phone call or an email, others prefer to be contacted through social media platforms such as Linked In.
This is a very common saying, and when it comes to networking, it really is true! Ask questions, listen and be friendly. You never know who your connection knows and make sure you get out there!
9
The more you put in, the more you’ll get out
It’s important to make the most out of the network – try to attend as many of our events as possible. Build your contact list as much as possible and get your name and company out there!
10
Smile
This might be a bit of an obvious last point, but believe us when we say, a smile really does go a long way. An approachable person is a memorable person!
HOW BEST TO MARKET YOUR BUSINESS Blogs Today, blogging is becoming an ever increasingly popular aspect of a business. Why? Because it’s seen as a very personable way of interacting with existing and potential clients. A blog is a place where you can share news, opinions and tips that are relevant to your industry. The beauty of this is that you can then share the content across social media. Make sure you update your blog regularly though – old news doesn’t reflect very well on your business!
SEO SEO or search engine optimization, affects the visibility of your website. This is often referred to as a natural, organic or hard earned result which simply means the higher your site appears in a search engine, such as Google or Yahoo! the more visitors

“The growth of the accountancy practice since its inception in 1994 has been a source of immense pride to me. “It’s built on offering an exceptional, personal service to our clients and one of the most satisfactory areas of running the practice is overseeing the development of clients’ businesses. It’s still exciting for me to meet new clients to discuss their plans, and the personal rapport that I enjoy with clients contributes to my continued enthusiasm managing the practice.” Russell Heath, ACMA Senior Partner
you’ll attract. SEO is also very clever as it takes into account what the public is searching for and ensuring they see exactly what they want. It can be a lot to take in, but once you understand the basics, you’ll certainly reap the rewards!
Branding Branding is an exceptionally important aspect of any business. But what is it? Well, it’s a promise to your clients, whereby you tell them about what they can expect from your products or services and how your business is different from the competition. In order to do this, you should have a unique logo so that you’re remembered, a website that’s easy to navigate and eyecatching packaging and materials. This should all communicate the message of your brand.
Advertisements Adverts are seen all around us on a daily basis, in newspapers, magazines, on the television, radio and even on billboards. This form of communication is used primarily to sell products or services. The purpose of this is to convince the public that a business or product really is the best that money can buy. Advertising can also enhance the image of a company and hopefully secure more sales.
Email Marketing A fantastic way to directly converse with potential clients, email marketing can include advertisements, alerting and informing your database about your news and offers. This method is not only effective, but significantly cheaper and faster than many other forms of marketing. It’s a great way of
reaching your target audience quickly and efficiently, welcoming them to your business and even to collate valuable information about them.
Social Media Social media is one of the most powerful forms of marketing there is today. With the vast majority of platforms completely free to use, it’s no wonder that most businesses take advantage of this effective way of marketing. You can use social media anywhere in the world making this easily accessible to anyone with the internet. You can share, create or exchange information and content with anyone and with research showing that users spend more time on social media than any other site, you really should take the time to set up an account which focuses solely on your business.

EXHIBITION TIPS Stand Design An eye catching stand design will draw potential customers to you. Although you should remain informative, a customer will be unlikely to approach you if your stand works purely to inform. Using innovative lighting, bold colours and catchy music can be spectacular methods to do this. You may be limited as to how far you go with your stand design, so it is important to find out the exact dimensions and type of exhibition stand/space that you have before finalising designs.
Entertaining your visitors Once you have attracted visitors to your stand, you need to ensure that they are entertained so that they are more likely to want to engage with you. This can be done by hiring a performer, by
exhibiting something eye catching and of interest to potential clients, or by using interactive tools such as gaming devices. For example, a sport related company could use signed sporting paraphernalia provided by a famous athlete.
Personal Interaction Perhaps one of the most important aspects of a successful exhibition is engagement with potential clients. A large part of this is to be welcoming and enthusiastic, and to make sure that you convey your personal interest in the attendee. They are at the exhibition in a purchasing frame of mind, so your job is to convince them that they should pick your products or services over any competitor that may also be exhibiting. This is far more likely to be achieved if staff are not only approachable, but informative. PA_IntroBiz_Ad 2.pdf

Refreshments Refreshments are another excellent way to entice customers. Exhibitions tend to be long and tiring days for both attendees and exhibitors, and good quality refreshments can sometimes be hard to come by. Therefore, displaying the availability of teas and coffees, biscuits and pastries and maybe some brightly coloured sweets, can really work to make the customers happy. This can also work as an effective marketing tool, by offering sweets with the company logo displayed on them.
Technology People are always attracted to high tech gadgets and innovative displays of technological devices. An iPad can be an easy way to achieve this, by using the device to display evidence of your work

whilst engaging with the customer. Large HD TVs can also be used, with attractive and informative visual displays. Apps are also increasing in popularity, ensuring that the customer is able to keep up to date with your business.
Follow Up Following up is a vital part of exhibiting and networking alike. You should follow up no more than 24 hours following the exhibition. You can do this through sending an informal email, picking up the phone and then arranging a face to face meeting. You can find out more about how to follow up effectively by heading to page 68.
INTERNATIONAL NETWORKING EVENTS
As well as hosting networking events here in Wales, we also host events across Europe.
Earlier this year, Introbiz headed to Spain and Paris for some international networking. We believe that this is a truly unique opportunity to connect with some of Europe’s most elite businesses. While networking here in the UK is hugely important to you and your business, there’s a wealth of opportunity (and business) out there.
SOCIAL EVENTS Social events are much less formal and usually include a delicious selection of food in the form of canapes or a buffet. These socials usually last for around 2 hours and take place on a Thursday afternoon. The socials are very relaxed making this the perfect opportunity to mingle and connect with business owners, corporate companies and SMEs from all sorts of industries and sectors. We’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy Indian and Japanese cuisine, afternoon tea and various competitions at our car showrooms. There’s always something different going on so make sure you keep an eye out for our social events.

When it comes to networking internationally, it can be difficult to form a solid foundation of contacts outside your home country. There could be a language barrier, perhaps you don’t have enough knowledge of the country or you quite simply don’t know where to start. This is where Introbiz can help you!

NETWORKING EVENTS Our regular networking events take the form of power group tables. These events usually take place on Thursday afternoons from 4-6pm, but we also host networking breakfasts once a month which follows the same format. How do these events work? Well, during the first hour, our members and visitors network and mingle informally, introducing themselves to each other and discussing their business while enjoying the delicious refreshments on offer. After an interlude at five, everyone takes their place at their designated tables. Each guest wears a badge with a colour attached which signifies on which table you’ll be sat on. You’ll be sat with 9 other companies from all sorts of industries and sectors who are looking to get connected. You’ll be sat with corporate companies, business owners and SMEs and all have something unique to offer.
SPORTING BUSINESS CLUBS Every week is completely different at Introbiz. As well as hosting our regular networking events, we also host breakfasts, socials and sporting business clubs. We host these for Cardiff City FC, the Cardiff Devils and the Newport Gwent Dragons. At these events, we welcome members of the network, corporate companies, sponsors and visitors to network with each other in an informal, relaxed and friendly environment. These events have previously included Q&A sessions with Wales’ football manager Chris Coleman and Welsh football legends Kevin Ratcliffe and Neville Southall. These clubs take place throughout the year, at Rodney Parade which is the home of the Dragons and at Cardiff City FC. The sporting business clubs will continue to take place throughout 2016 so make sure you keep an eye on our website for the dates.

JOUNALISTS ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN BAD NEWS – AREN’T THEY? I hear this mantra all the time from people about people like me – but have you ever really thought about how the dynamic of news works? News comes from human beings who are doing things – journalists have no magic wands, their job is not rocket science, it’s about dealing with people and spreading information. Bad – or unusual and quirky – stories attract a lot of attention, people can feel it more keenly. That’s why it appears journalists are only interested in bad news. However if you take a local newspaper for a week or a month and actually mark out how many good and bad news stories are within its pages – you’ll be surprised at the results.
The agenda of the local and regional press may be different to the national press but being clear about a publication (on or offline) and its agenda is fairly easy. For example, you probably immediately know an article in The Sun or The Daily Mail, might have a different angle using the same facts as an article in The Daily Telegraph or The Sunday Times. If you are in business – don’t assume you can demand things from a journalist just because you are thinking ‘that’s unfair’, ‘that’s invading my privacy’ or ‘that’s a lie’. You need to think about the context – you need to ask questions. This is particularly true if you or your business faces a ‘bad news’ situation.
@TheFionaScott
The truth is bad news reaches the public domain very quickly in the UK and it’s easily accessible. Often bad news will involve a public body– these are accountable, spending our money and they have to be seen to be doing their job. So bad news can come via the police, the ambulance service, the local authority, industrial tribunals, courts, etc. Good news is much harder to see for a journalist because it’s so commonplace. There are good news stories all around us. Did someone smile at you today? Were babies born at the local hospital today? Was it someone’s birthday today? Do you expect all of these ‘good news’ stories to make headlines? So if you are building a brand, publicising an event, you have to make it stand out from the crowd, make it easy for the journalist to use your story and trust the information. Like anything else it needs to be packaged correctly to have a chance of publication.

HOW TO GET THE BEST OUT OF SOCIAL MEDIA Over the last 10 years we have seen a massive shift in the way businesses are required to market themselves. Just having a website just doesn’t do it anymore and you have to be around and interacting with your customers as much as possible. This is true for B2B and B2C…so keep reading for some great tips! You’ll have no doubt heard that social media is important, but when you start tackling Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn you’ll be thinking, “how much time is this going to take?” and “will it win us business?” If that’s ringing true then you are not alone, but trust us, it doesn’t have to be that hard. So to help, here are our top 5 tips to getting the most out of social media:
1
Be around when your customers are
Most businesses do their social media between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. But when are your customers online? The most likely answer is when you’re not! Look at your website analytics to get a feel for when your customers are online and ensure that your social media output is planned around those timeframes. You’ll get better engagement, more shares and likes when adopting this approach.
2 62
Use images and video A recent survey highlighted that
Introbiz Business EXPO 2015
by using images or video in your social media it will increase your engagement by over 40%. In a fast moving society people tend to miss text based content without something visual catching their attention, so use an image or video as much as you can.
3
Keep it local
Hashtags are a great way of helping you get your content to the right people. One way of using hashtags is to localise your posts through tags such as #Cardiff or #Wales. People monitor these tags and when they see it in their feeds they’re more likely to share and like it. Being as local as possible will help you win followers that are more likely to call into your shop or office so try this out and see what happens.
4
Be personal
Your business may have a brand but you’ve got to be personable when dealing with social media and is no different to when you attend
a networking event. You may be the largest business in the area but when you’re networking you’re the one people are talking to so adopt this approach with your social media output.
5
Don’t sell, engage
If there is one thing you take away from this it should be “don’t sell!” Shouting your marketing message at your prospects will just turn them off and nobody likes a pushy sales person. Yes, you want to win business from it, but nurture your prospects and give them information that is useful. This will make you become an “influencer” and you’re more likely to get interest from prospects by adopting this style than shouting your sales message at them. To sum up, social media is here to stay. It’s not a fad and once you start getting it right you’ll love the return on the time investment. Give it a go, but if you get stuck there are plenty of agencies like ours around who will give you a hand at getting it right.

THE ART OF FOLLOWING UP So, you took the time out of your business day to attend a networking event. You heard the same thing, “you must remember to follow up with your new connections.” Well, how do you do this effectively? We’re here to tell you! You should have collected a load of business cards during the event, this is why it’s imperative that you have a bunch of your own to hand out. Many people who attend networking events seem to make the same mistake which is to wait to follow up with their connections or wait for the other to make the first move. Honestly, this is a huge no-no! You should make the initial contact no more than 24 hours after the event has taken place. This way, there’s much more of a chance that the individual will remember you. We advise sending an introductory email, using the address on the business card. This email shouldn’t be too long

Introbiz Business EXPO 2015
or short and shouldn’t be overly formal, just introduce yourself and include something along the lines of, “it was great to meet you at the Introbiz event yesterday…” Then go on to talk briefly about your business. Why not suggest a meeting to discuss how you’d be able to assist and help each other? If and when a meeting has been set up, make sure you’re clear about your intentions. This way, the other party can prepare anything that needs preparing, such as notes and to make the relevant enquiries. If you can, try to suggest meeting halfway with regards to distance between the two parties. This shows consideration towards the other
and always be prepared to pay for the coffee/tea – it looks good on you, shows you care and is generally considered good manners. One thing we always suggest is that you leave your sales pitch at the door, when you attend an event as well as the follow up meeting. The last thing you want to do is scare off your new found connection. Rather than forcing your agenda, ask them questions, about their families, business in general, current affairs, get to know them as a person rather than starting at the deep end. Just remember, follow up!

In my role in the hospitality sector, I go to many networking events and many business exhibitions all over the UK. I have now been to two Introbiz business exhibitions and both continue to surprise me on the scale of their events. They continue to grow and continue to produce top quality speakers who are relevant to today’s market place. I am looking forward to their up and coming event this year! Newport Gwent Dragons
The Vale Hotel have made some great new contacts at both the networking breakfast and during Wales’ biggest business Expo. The keynote speakers were extremely motivational, which certainly put a spring in my step, whilst exhibiting. We managed to obtain appointments, enquiries and leads. The Vale Hotel
It has been a very successful year for us here at Lexus Cardiff. With the launch of the all New NX300h it has really helped us attract new customers and through our partnership with Introbiz we have seen some great results. We would strongly recommend Introbiz to any businesses looking to up their game! Whether you are a one-man band or running a large organisation, the key to securing new business is meeting people! Just turn up, grab a cup of coffee and have a chat to a few people, it is amazing what comes up in conversation, just because they might not be looking to buy anything from you right now that doesn’t mean they won’t know somebody who is. Being around like minded people definitely keeps you open minded. Lexus
I have attended the Introbiz Expo over the last few years and I’ve seen it grow just like the company itself. Tracey and Paul work very hard throughout the year, connecting with all sorts of businesses to make the Expo the best in Wales. What I have personally found, is that I see both new and old faces, with existing business owners and new businesses, networking and making friends with each other throughout the day and picking up tips from each other and from the wealth of experience from the guest speakers. I have found the connections that I have made with Introbiz truly invaluable over the years. Ideal Financial Planning
The Introbiz concept is a refreshing approach to effective networking. We all have busy lives, so a networking organisation that is tailored to compliment your working day and to match specific companies that will be of mutual benefit for members, is an extremely exciting proposition. Global Radio

BEAUJOLIAS DAY Come and celebrate Beaujolais Day in style with Introbiz! For our seventh consecutive year, we’ll be heading to Cardiff’s most authentic Portuguese restaurant, the Madeira. Traditionally, Beaujolais Day is held on the third Thursday of the month of November, which means that this great tradition will be held on Thursday, November 19th from 12pm. You’ll enjoy a glass of chilled bubbly on arrival and this will be followed by a delicious 2 course meal as well as half a bottle of Beaujolais Nouveau each. We’ll be raising money for The Pituitary Foundation through conducting a raffle and auction where there’s a chance to bid on some great prizes. We look forward to seeing you there!

SLOW CASHFLOW Don’t let it hold your business back. In business, success depends on getting the fundamentals right – one of which is cashflow management. The issue, in a nutshell, is this. You have to pay money out, for premises, equipment, machinery, materials, stock, wages, and much more besides, before you get that cash back from your customers. On the one hand you probably need some finance to bridge the gap. And on the other you want to ease the strain by taking steps to ensure you get paid as quickly as possible. Here are some tips that you might find helpful.
Little things that make a big difference • Speed up your invoicing. Are you invoicing at the start of the new month, instead at the end of the old? And why not invoice at regular intervals throughout the month, or even as soon as a job or transaction is completed? • Make it really simple for people to pay you. Offer a range of payment methods so your customers can choose the one that suits them – and make sure every invoice features a “due by” date, that’s displayed prominently. • Offer discounts for early payment. Some customers will settle invoices early if it saves them money. It might be worth a try to see whether it works and to gauge whether it’s cost effective. • Create a collections policy. Keep on top of your sales ledger and operate a system of reminders that become gradually more serious and formal as invoices become increasingly overdue. • Keep track of what you owe. Pay your invoices right on the due date and not

before – unless, of course you can get a discount for paying early, in which case take the discount. • Extend your payment times. There may be some suppliers you have a particularly good relationship with that you can ask about spreading your payments or extending your due dates.
Getting extra funding – look beyond the bank Even if you do all the things suggested above you can still find yourself experiencing cashflow difficulties. Often, and ironically, this can be the result of success. What do you do, for instance, if you land a big new contract and need to make a substantial outlay for materials, stock, equipment or extra wages? In that situation you need a cash injection, and fast. The first port of call for most SMEs is their bank, either for a loan or an overdraft. Banks don’t always look on small and medium sized businesses very favourably, especially after the credit crunch. That doesn’t mean they won’t lend to you - just that the application process can be frustratingly lengthy, the terms may not be especially favourable and that some of their conditions can be tough to meet.

this is a way to release the cash you have tied up in unpaid invoices. The arrangement is relatively quick and easy to set up and means that you get the money in your account, to use as you see fit, within 24 hours of issuing an invoice. The fees are quite modest and the company providing the finance can also take over your credit management – instead of wasting time chasing invoices you can leave it to the experts and concentrate your efforts on building your business. Another bonus is the fact that the facility can even include bad debt protection, so you are covered against the risk of a client failing to pay entirely.
Other ways to save your precious working capital If you want cash to acquire equipment or vehicles then Asset Finance is much the best option. The finance provider purchases the items on your behalf then you make fixed monthly payments over 2-5 years under a Hire Purchase agreement. At the end of the agreement you have the option to purchase the asset for a nominal amount. Another common situation that causes cashflow headaches occurs when you buy items from abroad and the supplier is not willing to offer credit terms. A specialist Trade Finance provider can pay for the goods and give you credit for up to 90 days while you are waiting for your client to settle your invoice.
“Alternative” solutions that are becoming more mainstream The financial world, however, is changing fast – and there is a variety of providers beyond the banks who specialise in alternative financial products specially designed to help SMEs who are hungry for cash. One of the most popular is Invoice Finance, a facility that is rapidly overtaking the traditional bank overdraft or loan. As the name suggests
