It all started when five cars left Tullow a few years ago for the Wicklow Gap on a Sunday drive and from that the interest began. In 1972 John Peel gave Finbar, along with his brother Eddie, their big break by voting them act of the year.Their music was phenomenal because it was a new sound - Irish (Uillean) Pipes with Guitar and voice, which up till then had not been done.) Subsequently of course the format was used everywhere from Planxty to River Dancre, Braveheart to Hailey Westenra. It was modern music, with an ancient root. The music came from the Irish Gypsy community and when it met the psychedelic era, a new sound was born.
WATERING HANGING BASKETS: One of the most frequently asked questions in our garden centres is - How to keep your hanging baskets watered? There are a few different options available to you: • You can buy packets of water retaining gel which will slowly release water in to the baskets for you. • You can also buy Container and Basket Compost from Bord na Mona which already has this contained in the mix. • Some people advise placing ice cubes in your containers during hot weather but we would say not to do this as it can damage the plants Or we suggest trying to top tip from one of our horticulturists: In my own garden I have a number of small bottles filled with water with a small hole in the lid sitting at my door ready to use during hot weather. Our Plant Lover’s day on 19th June 2016 from 11-4pm will make the perfect gardeners’ day out – browse the plants, get some advice, and enjoy one of Ireland’s largest Victorian Walled Gardens! Festina Lente will be celebrating all things horticultural from a range of nurseries selling unusual plants, shrubs, herbs, trees, bulbs along with Dr Phil Havercroft from Leamore Nursery…. The Wicklow 200 is a non-competitive cycle ride that takes place on one day every June. It covers 200 kilometres around the roads of beautiful County Wicklow (the Garden of Ireland) and attracts over 2000 cyclists from many different countries.
The shorter Wicklow Challenge takes place on the same day, and shares most of its route with the Wicklow 200.
Taking part in the “Wicklow 200” or the shorter “Wicklow 100” is taking part in one of the best cycling challenges in Ireland. This very popular event which is on it’s 33rd year, incorporates some of the most difficult mountains in Co. Wicklow to cycle up and at the same time covers some of the most breath taking scenic roads in the whole of Ireland. The Wicklow 200 is famous for its relaxed, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and for its ability to combine this with organisation of the highest standard. This year, the roll call of Celebrity Chefs is even better than at previous Taste of Wicklow Town events. There is a really star studded programme of Celebrity Chefs, which include Neven Maguire, Derry Clarke, Paul Kelly, The Druid Chef Rory Morahan and a host of local chefs Paul Smith of The Mystic Celt, Alan Hegarty of
The Lighthouse Restaurant, Veronica O’Reilly of Healthy Habits Café, and Andy McDaniel of The Bridge Tavern. The objective of The Taste of Wicklow is to encourage a food and artisan culture and towards that end, the festival will also feature chefs from the transition year students of local schools. There will be a full music programme all day which has been generously sponsored by The Bridge Tavern. This will ensure that all visitors to the beautiful historic Abbey Grounds will be provided with a first class music experience with music to suit all tastes and age groups. From start to finish, the day is packed full of family fun with children’s
games, magicians, face painters and walkabout performers. It has truly become a family friendly festival with something for everybody. There is a cost of entry to the Abbey Grounds of €5 per adult, with children under 12 going free. All entertainment for the day is completely free of charge. The Taste of Wicklow is organised by The Wicklow Town & District Chamber of Commerce who have organised a fantastic fundraising raffle with many valuable prizes including a cash prize of €2000 and an opportunity to win two All Ireland Football Final Tickets with an overnight stay. The cost per ticket is €10 which includes free entry to The Taste of Wicklow. 1 ½ kg Minced Beef, not lean 2 Red Onion, finely chopped 5 Garlic Clove, crushed Large Handful of Parsley, chopped 75ml Tomato Ketchup 50ml Oyster Sauce (optional) 2 Egg Yolk
Divide the mayo between the bap bases and top with the burgers. Add the pineapple, beetroot, tomato and lettuce, then put the lids on top. Serve and enjoy.

Serving suggestions: Lovely served with potato salad and a fresh green salad, or delicious sliced in sandwiches in some good-quality bread. Add some leafy lettuce and sliced tomato to give it a good crunch.
Fruity Lamb Kebabs with Chilli Mayo
To serve: 6 Smoked Back Bacon Rashers 6 Slices Fresh Pineapple (optional) 6 Slices of Cheddar Cheese 6 Burger Baps, spilt in half Mayo Pickled Beetroot (optional) 2 Large Tomato, sliced 1 Cos Lettuce, separated into leaves
Method: 1. To make the burgers, mix together all the ingredients and knead well so everything is thoroughly mixed. Separate the mix into 6, roll each into a large ball, then shape into burgers. Put them in the fridge and, if possible, leave to chill for at least 1 hr. They can be made up to 2 days ahead. 2. To cook the burgers, get the barbecue good and hot with the coals glowing. Put the burgers on the barbecue and leave for a few mins until the edges start to colour. Slide a fish slice under the burgers and turn over. Repeat the process, then turn again. Remove to the cooler side of the barbecue and leave to cook for a good 15 mins if you like them well cooked. 3. While the burgers are cooking, BBQ the bacon and pineapple. Top the burgers with the bacon, then add the cheese and put back on the barbecue to melt. Warm the baps over the barbecue, too, if you like. 4.

Ingredients 1 Orange 1 Dried Chilli 1 ½ Heaped tsp Smoked Paprika 1 ½ tsp Dijon Mustard 3tbsp Honey 3tbsp Ketchup 1 tsp Olive Oil Salt & Pepper to taste 4 x 5oz Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
Method: 1. If barbecuing, light the grill now so the flames have died down and it’s ready when you’re ready to cook. 2. Finely grate the orange zest into a shallow bowl. Crumble in the dried chilli. Add the paprika, mustard, honey, ketchup and a splash of olive oil. Season with a small pinch each of the salt and pepper and mix well. Spoon out a few tablespoons of the marinade and set it aside. 3. Add the chicken breasts to the bowl with the remaining marinade. Turn them over in the marinade so they’re well coated, cover with plastic wrap and leave to sit for 5 to 10 minutes or until the grill is ready. 4. If using a grill pan, put it over high heat now to get it screaming hot. Use tongs to transfer your chicken breasts onto the grill or grill pan. For chicken breasts about 1 inch thick, cook for about 5 minutes on each side, turning every minute and basting as you go, or until golden and cooked through. Spoon a little of the reserved sauce over each breast.
Ingredients: 1 tbsp Chopped Thyme or Oregano Juice 1 Lemon 2tbsp Olive Oil 3 Garlic Clove, crushed 600g Lamb Neck Fillet, diced 2 Red Pepper, deseeded & cut into chunks 2 Green Peppers, chunks 1 Small Pineapple, peeled, cored & cut into chunks 200g Jar Light Mayonnaise 1 Chilli, deseeded & finely chopped ½ small bunch Corriander, chopped Juice 1 Lime
Method: 1. Mix the herbs, lemon juice, olive oil, garlic and some seasoning, add the lamb and turn to coat it in the marinade. 2. Thread the lamb, peppers and pineapple onto 8 metal skewers, alternating the ingredients as you go. Heat the barbecue or a griddle pan to hot, then cook the skewers for 8-10 mins turning frequently. 3. Meanwhile mix the mayo with the chilli, coriander and lime juice. Season and serve with the kebabs.

Also included are a number of specimen mature trees, including a fine Chilean myrtle, Luma Apiculata, planted c. 1880 and believed to have come from Woodstock, Co. Kilkenny. There is also a wild flower meadow which is at its best towards the end of June beginning of July. We are delighted that people enjoy visiting the gardens and sharing them with us. Everything from ‘regrowth, to treatments, to shaping, to brow kits and tutorials’ almost every woman has now made the eyebrows the no.1 accessory to whatever look you’re going for. It’s no longer just all about our hair styles or outfits now we are on the hunt for the perfect brow as well!

STEP 3 – EYEBROW MAPPING: There are 3 points at which our eyebrows are mapped out so before you do anything else take a thin brush or pencil and an eyeliner pencil and lightly pin your 3 mapped areas:

STEP 2 – PERSONAL CHOICE: Eyebrows are a very personal thing so once a professional has shaped your eyebrows to suit your face it’s now your job from here on in to keep your eyebrow maintenance at bay. If you choose to pay regular visits to your local beauty salon to keep your eyebrows in shape, perfect! But if you choose to maintain them yourself talk to your beauty therapist first about what would suit you best regarding your eyebrows? Ask about the many different options

Using your concealer apply a thin line under and above your eyebrow and blend to give you a more finished look and you’re done!

The 2016 U.S. Open Championship will be conducted at Oakmont Country Club, in Oakmont, PA. Consistently ranked as one of the best tests of championship golf in the country, Oakmont has hosted more major championships than any other club in America. The 2016 U.S. Open Championship will mark the ninth time the course has hosted the national championship and has crowned some of golf’s legends as champions, including Ben Hogan (1953) and Jack Nicklaus (1962). Rory McIlroy is the current favourite but I don’t fancy him this year. He came from off the pace to finish 10th in his first US Open in 2009, he finished fast to claim ninth at Chambers Bay last year and he smashed records when he won the 2011, but they’re by some distance his best event efforts and has since been a long way short of that. The cream always rises to the top at Oakmont, where a certain Jack Nicklaus won his first ever event beating Arnold Palmer in a playoff in 1962. Jason Day is currently the best-equipped player to finish the week on top. His US Open form figures are impressive and if he’s in form this June, he’ll take some beating on a course that should really suit his game.
