Ireland’s Highest Waterfall

P

OWERSCOURT WATERFALL IS IRELAND’S highest at 121m (398ft.) and is 5km from the Main Estate. It is set in one of Ireland’s most beautiful parklands at the foothills of the Wicklow Mountains. As you drive from the gatelodge towards the Waterfall you are surrounded by Beech, Oak, Larch and Pine trees some of which were planted over 200 years ago. Look out for the Giant Redwoods, which are native to Northern California where they may grow up to 80m high and live for 4,000 years so they are still youngsters! The Waterfall is an ideal location for summer picnics and barbecues. There is a vast amount of space to keep children entertained. There is also a playground for younger children. But be mindful of the other inhabitants of the parkland!

It is a haven for wildlife and children can have fun trying to spot some of the locals – the Chaffinch, Cuckoo, Raven and the Willow Warbler. Don’t fret if you forget your picnic as there is a kiosk on site that serves everything from coffee and tea to hotdogs and ice-cream. The kiosk is open everyday from the 1st June to the end of August and year round at weekends, if weather permits. There is ample car parking and toilet facilities at the waterfall. Dogs are welcome but they must be on a leash. Directions: The Waterfall is located 6km from Powerscourt Estate. From Dublin City and Wexford take Exit 8. After 2 km take the first left towards Enniskerry and follow the signs for Powerscourt Waterfall.

Opening Times: • Mar/Apr/Sept/Oct 10.30am – 5.30pm • May/Jun/July/Aug 9.30am – 7.00pm

Tickets: • Adults €6, Student/OAP €5.50 • Child (U12) €3.50, Children (U2) Free • Family Ticket €16.00 (2 adults & up to 3 children)

WELCOME TO KILCOOLE After many years of talking and eating pizzas, we finally decided to chase the dream! The past year has been an epic journey… which started with our oven “Big Red” . Once we laid eyes on “Big Red” we knew that we had to go for it. So we secured “Nicky’s” old vegetable shop in Kilcoole, and went in search of a Pizzaiolo. Thankfully our Italian friend, Francesco, answered our call! He has brought with him to Kilcoole, the classic Italian fundamentals for the most flavoursome pizza. B

ray Jazz Festival returns for it’s 17th year with another packed programme of jazz from leading international players and Ireland’s top improvisers.

Described as “one of the very best small jazz festivals in Europe”, the boutique scale Bray Jazz will this year host concerts featuring visiting artists from the US, UK, France, Ivory Coast, Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and Mexico.

Following a number of years of consolidation, Bray Jazz shifts up a gear this year, with a broader span of events and stronger international presence on the roster for some time. There are three great

headline offerings taking place at Mermaid Arts Centre, with leading Swedish jazz star Maghnus Öström following on from a date at London’s celebrated Ronnie Scott’s with an opening night headliner in Bray, the Grammy Award

Full details are available at: www.brayjazz.com. Tickets are available by contacting the festival box office at Mermaid Arts Centre on

winning West African singer and dancer Dobet Gnahoré appearing with her band on the Saturday night of the bank holiday weekend, and celebrated doyen of American jazz piano, Kenny Werner playing Mermaid on Sunday, 1st May. This year’s programme includes a ‘Duos Series’ of early evening recitals at the Town Hall, while a new venue is being created by the festival this year at ‘The Well’, the former St. Paul’s Church at Lower Main Street, opposite The Royal Hotel. The Seafront will again be alive to the sounds of jazz, with music each night at The

Harbour Bar, The Martello, and at various bar and restaurant premises including The Hibernia Inn, The Porterhouse and Jim Doyles. In particular, this year’s festival is setting out to create what organisers describe as a cool late night jazz club scene in the function room at The Martello, where anarchic young French combo Chromb! will play into the wee hours on Saturday night, and Latin jazz, courtesy of Conclave will round out this year’s festival on Sunday, 1st May.

Vein, featuring Greg Osby (Switzerland/ USA) Labels aren’t easy when it comes to Vernon Jane. Are they a rock band with jazz sensibilities, or a jazz combo who seriously know how to rock out? Who cares! What’s certain is that they’ve been generating quite a buzz on the Dublin scene over the past year, and the momentum is starting to build. Their influences are across a wide spectrum, from jazz through to psychedelic rock, with fast melodies and sharp beats overlayered by singer Emily Jane’s sometimes dreamy, trance like singing exploring the darkness, the light and every shade of grey.

Økland and Apeland’s are master musicians who create a soft and haunting atmosphere with their music. ECM recording artists, their presentation on hardanger fiddle and harmonium explores folk, jazz and the traditional music of Europe’s far north. 20.00 MERMAID ARTS CENTRE €25

The importance in exfoliating before application is to be sure you have removed any dead skin on your body for that natural looking finish. Make sure to pay close attention to your elbows, knees and heels as these areas are where we are most likely to have the driest skin.

Always use a tanning mitt when applying your tan, never apply with your bare hands as you will undoubtedly be left with an uneven all over tan and not forgetting perfectly orange palms and fingers … Trust me, You have been warned!

STEP FIVE: If applying tan to your face go very lightly or even better use a facial fake tan which are a little lighter than your all over body tan. You could always just apply your make-up and add a dusting Loreal Sublime of bronzer to match your tan Bronze colour.

Before applying your tan it is a very important step to use an oil-free moisturizer on those stubborn areas like your elbows, knees and heels and or on any dry skin you have so you do not end up with dark tell-tale tanned patches.

STEP FOUR: Vita Liberata Tan

relax while applying. Do not rush your tan because this will only result in a bad looking, streaky tan and nobody wants that. In circular motions apply to your legs, stomach, back and arms first making sure you have covered each and every part of your skin. Then with what is left on the mitt rub over your feet and hands and up your neck for an all over even finish. Go lightly when blending your wrists and back of hands you do not want to end up with tan lines or orange tangoed hands!

Applying your tan is simple really if you take your time and

Added Note: If going all in on applying fake tan is not for you but you would love that all over glow, you could simply opt for a gradual tanner and daily build your tan up to where you want it to be. A gradual tanner is just a moisturizer that nourishes your skin whilst gradually enhancing your natural skin colour.

Familiarity does not, however, lessen the challenge for car or driver. Barcelona’s mix of high- and low-speed corners, plus its abrasive and rather bumpy track surface, makes for a physically and mechanically taxing race. For spectators Elf corner is among the best places to watch, as it is one of the track’s few overtaking opportunities. For the drivers it is the final two turns, known collectively as New Holland, which provide one of the biggest challenges of the season. A fast exit is essential in order to maximise speed down the start-finish straight into Elf. Michael Schumacher has been the most successful driver at the circuit, with a total

of six victories. Among the current drivers, Kimi Raikkonen, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa have all won there.

BAMMA is set to return to Dublin for BAMMA 26: Craig Vs. Fields at the 3Arena on Saturday 4th June 2016. The event is headlined by the Light Heavyweight Title Fight between Scottish Champion Paul ‘Bearjew’ Craig and challenger Dublin’s own ‘The Housewives Choice’ Chris Fields. In what will be another top night of European MMA action and entertainment. Scottish Light Heavyweight superstar Paul ‘Bearjew’ Craig (8-0) has seen his star rise since signing on the dotted line with BAMMA. Causing huge waves in the division with his victory over the previously undefeated Karl Moore, he then swiftly dethroned the previous champion Marcin ‘Bane’ Lazarz to become the new king of the Light Heavyweights. The Scottish Hit Squad standout is now looking to dominate the division and has his sights set on a win in enemy territory over the hometown hero Chris Fields. After a minor altercation behind the scenes at BAMMA 24 and numerous clashes via Social Media, Craig is determined to not only win in style but to solidify his position as champion with a dominating performance over Fields on June 4th.
