I find regular swimming invaluable for relief of symptoms of my back problems including sciatica. The staff at Shoreline have always been really genuinely friendly and offer constant encouragement and motivation, they all seem to be highly trained with lots of drive. The whole centre is well maintained and regularly cleaned to a very high standard. I would highly recommend this friendly and professional leisure centre“ – Member of Shoreline Leisure for 3 years

“I first went to Shoreline about a 1 ½ years ago not to join, just to use the pool as I had a problem with movement in my shoulders and hips. I went to my first Aqua aerobics class in Shoreline, I remember them playing Abba and it was so good I went home and told my husband that he would love it also. He came the next week and we met some lovely people who told us about all the other classes that would be of benefit to us. We then decided to join the gym and now my husband goes 7 days a week, he finds it so good. The management and staff are excellent at explaining the different moves and at using the gym equipment so you don’t injure yourself. The reason I tell you all this is my husband is over 80 years old and I am 76 years, I must say the joy of movement is wonderful as I was getting quite stiff in my joint’s but not anymore. “Great job Shoreline keep up the good work.” – Member of Shoreline Leisure for 1 ½ years

The Woodlands Restaurant at The Glenview Hotel
Exotic Fruit & Meringue, Raspberry Ganache & Jelly
Our 2 AA Rosette winning Restaurant is situated on the first floor and has breath-taking views of our beautiful gardens and the majestic Glen of The Downs.
It is a very nice way to enjoy seasonal exotic fruits in a classical way. Meringue here is prepared as a thin layer and bit of cream as another layer. Sliced fruits are then arranged on top of that which then are garnished with micro basil and some meringue drop. The sour and sweet fruits with meringue makes a fantastic combination and micro basil just freshens the whole dish.
Dining in The Woodlands is truly an experience. Each season our Head Chef Sandeep Pandey and his team, bring you sumptuous dishes to reflect the seasons. Both he and his team have won numinous accolades over the years. We pride ourselves on using all locally sourced ingredients and an extensive wine have been specially chosen to accompany each dish on our menu.
Tasting & Textuxes Of Beetroot & Goats Cheese This dishes gives a tasting of three different textures of Goats Cheese which are accompanied with three texture of beetroot. A Goats cheese mousse, pistachio crusted Goats Cheese Bon Bon and a Goats Cheese Fritter gives different tastings of goats cheese which are married with a beetroot puree, beetroot crisp and a marinated baby beetroot. It’s a very well balanced dish and the flavours are quite subtle.
Herb Crusted Rack & Slow Cooked Shoulder Of Wicklow Lamb, Basil & Pine Nut Mash, Spinach Purée, Baby Carrots, Rosemary Jus
It’s a beautiful way of cooking the Lamb by utilising prime and secondary cuts. Pan seared rack of lamb cooked pink and diced leg cooked slowly for 12 hours with mustard and cumin. Basil mash and seasonal baby vegetables accompanies the dish and enhances the whole dish.

PLANNING YOUR CHILD’S
So, you have a child and their birthday is coming up? Well, if you want them to have a great birthday party, it’s going to take work and lots of planning from your end but it’s always a good idea to let them be part of the planning to. It’s more than likely the child will have their own theme in mind, they’ll know who they want to invite to their party and what food or sweet treats they would like to eat, so all you have to do really is to make a plan and bring it all together.
Simple basic tips to planning your birthday party are: 1. Pick a place and time Picking your place, well this is
the first decision to be made really, are you going to have the party at home? Or are you going to book a party venue? This could be your local community hall (perfect for a football party), bowling (for all ages), Roller skating or Build-A-Bear (perfect for little girls). Once that decision is made you will know what 18
inWICKLOW

amount of work has to be done because when having your party at a venue kids meals will more than likely be included in your booking price. When picking your time it is always a good idea to leave yourself enough time in
the morning to bring last minute things or food prep together. Therefore you won’t be stressed to the hills when all the little guests start arriving.
2. Make a guest list
Sit with your child and see who they would like to invite from school or football club etc. You will be able to do the rest ie, inviting cousins and friends. Just remember to have a limit on the amount of guests as to little can be boring and hard to keep entertained but to many can

get crazy and the last thing you want to be on your child’s special day is stressed and dealing with tears and fights!
3. Send Invitations
The invitations should include who the party is for, what date and time it will be held, and where your party is. Also provide your phone number and a RSVP date. That way, you’ll know who can and can’t come. Don’t forget to mention the theme!
4. Cake
Decide if you will be baking your own cake or ordering one. If ordering your cake order up to 3 weeks before to give your baker plenty of notice of the type of cake you’re looking for ie, sponge or chocolate biscuit etc. and the theme/design you wish to have your cake made as. If baking your own cake same goes, about 3 weeks before make sure you have everything you will need… Tins, Ingredients etc.
5. Party Food
If doing hot food at your party and your serving pizza always make sure to have two kinds (regular cheese pizza and a pepperoni or chicken pizza), you could also do chicken goujons or hot dogs and serve with chips or wedges. Your cake will be dessert, or you could have jelly and ice cream. Other party snacks will include popcorn, crisps and or sweets.
6. Party Bags
The end of a party would not be complete without the all important ‘party bags’. Always go with the theme of your party and ages of the children. Party bags should not be expensive so a packet of sweets and crisps and a little gift should be all. For the gift you could include stickers, a pencil and little notepad or temporary tattoos . Or you could simply get your party bags made up in your local sweet shop at say €1 a bag.

When it comes to choosing your bedroom flooring there are a range of options available – wooden, carpet or laminate. It is important to take into consideration who will be sleeping in this room and if the flooring will require much maintenance. Bedroom flooring should also fit in well with the rest of the room. If you choose carpet, it should not match the color of the walls. If you choose wood or laminate flooring it should not be the same tone as wooden bedroom furnishings, in order to allow both the furniture and the floor to stand out on their own.
Choosing t he right mattress / bed for a good night’s sleep Most of us appreciate the benefits of a good night’s sleep for vitality, wellbeing and general quality of life. As work commuting gets longer, stresses of modern living seem to increase, work hours lengthen and sleep hours often shorten it is more important than ever to get quality sleep. Remember though that people generally want something similar to what they currently sleep on with extra padding. Check your existing bed before visiting a showroom. Check the size, and even take a picture of the model to show the bed specialist when you get to the showroom.
As Thomas Dekker said - “sleep is that golden chain that ties health and our bodies together”. So how do we eliminate the pitfalls and improve our chances of getting the right sleep? So let’s start with the obvious, move on to the less obvious and then explore the choosing of the right mattress. Books have been written on sleep tips and most include • Regular bed times • Avoid over napping • Try to get sufficient sunlight during the day (a good 20 minute walk will help here - no excuses here if you live in County Wicklow!) • Low/dim lights at night particularly before bedtime • Keep room cool • Eliminate loud noise • Avoid late heavy meals, excessive alcohol and too much liquid. A good starting point is to start with the level of firmness - soft, medium or firm. A rule of thumb is • Light Build - Soft Mattress • Medium Build Medium Mattress • Large Build - Firm Mattress.
Consider moving your bed to a guest room and upgrading yours or increasing/ decreasing the size of your bed. If considering upsizing to a 6’ bed remember to check measurements for lockers and for access. Check the base - it can be a false economy to replace the mattress without replacing the base, (usually 25-30% of the price of the complete bed). Divan bases can be platform (an upholstered box with a padded top) or sprung full to the floor on castors with or without drawers or shallow on raised legs. If you opt for a sprung base the mattress will feel softer than on
a platform base and vice versa and a sprung base can add longevity to a good mattress. Always test the mattress by lying on it, pressing and sitting are not enough and if there are two of you then lie on it together, moving from your back to your side or other sleep position .It’s good to test a given mattress/ bed for 5 minutes or more as you narrow down the choice. If you are prone to overheating in bed it is probably best to avoid memory (Visco Elastic) unless it’s accompanied by Gel.

Nothing says true luxury like crisp, clean bed linen. This fitted sheet from Carolyn Donnely is made from luxury cotton percale and is available in divinely soft shades. Plush yet fresh, it is a subtle way to add richness to your bedroom. Brought to you by Irish designer Carolyn Donnelly, exclusively for Dunnes Stores.

Colortrend brings you… more ways with walls!
It is time to put a creative spin on these recessionary times by revamping old furniture and flea market treasures and rediscovering their individuality and self-expression. There are so many decorating ideas to choose from that with the help of Colortrend paint you can breathe new life in tired bedrooms and worn furniture to create a home that is individual to you and your style.
Paint Ideas The largest part of any home of decorating project is your walls - they take up the most space but they are the simplest way to transform any decorating scheme without the expense of changing all your fittings and furniture. Why not have a look at all the other things that can be updated with just a touch of paint - have you ever thought about painting your ceiling? Changing the colour of your ceiling can be dramatic but depending on the style of room and the amount of light it gets, changing the ceiling can offer a completely different dimension to your room. Painting furniture is another simple and effective way of updating a room - you can choose a new trend colour to make your furniture pop. Or update an older, tired piece with some new neutral tones. Don’t forget about painting wardrobes or fitted cabinets - it can give them a whole new lease of life. Change from the traditional - you can move away from the tradition of painting all your woodwork
Springs: Irish spring manufacturers like Respa are world leaders in bed and spring making often exporting extensively around Britain and kayfoam are also exporting to America and even to China! Great Irish success stories and supporting jobs in Ireland! Open coil / Bonnell springs are the most common type of springing. These are metal coil springs connected in series to form a single unit. Some of the firmest mattresses are open coil sprung. As a unit the whole mattress will be more prone to movement with movement on one side affecting the other

Rebecca Williamson, Senior colour and design manager “Warm neutrals are the perfect backdrop for colourful furniture, cushions and paintings, as they help to create unity in a room. They combine well with vibrant colours like lime green, raspberry and cobalt blue.” A neutral colour scheme is a wonderful starting point for any bedroom, especially one that needs to cater to both feminine and masculine styles. Choose cool neutrals like dove grey, taupe and pewter for a crisp, fresh feel or warm neutrals like chocolate, sand, beige and tan for a cosy atmosphere. Elevate the luxe factor with a feature wall painted in bright, saturated colours (choose hues that you both love) or experiment with graphic patterns, like a geometric paint effect above the bed.

Powerscourt Golf Club
Powerscourt Golf Club is set in the foothills of the rolling Wicklow hills on one of Ireland’s most beautiful and intriguing estates. Opened in 1996 Powerscourt features two championship courses in Ireland, which despite their proximity to each other, pose remarkably different challenges for any golfer.
Designed by former Walker Cup Captain Peter Mc Evoy, the East Course offers a testing and rewarding challenge for golfers of all levels. It has hosted some of Ireland’s major golfing tournaments including the Irish PGA Championship and the European Tour Irish Senior Open. The course is surrounded by hedges, ancient oaks and beech trees and often the golf becomes second nature as the sheer beauty of the surroundings takes over. One of the hallmarks of the course is the contoured undulating greens.
Designed by David McLay Kidd, the West Course meanders its way through the 1,000 acre Powerscourt Estate. It has been a qualifying course for many Barton Shield and inter-club competitions. It features wonderful views of the Wicklow Hills and Irish sea as well as a variety of challenging holes. The surroundings include mature trees, ravines and streams. “I’ve managed to let this course explore around corners and over brows…it allows the player to feel a sense of adventure.” David Mc Lay Kidd. Powerscourt Waterfall At Powerscourt you can enjoy listening to the sound of the River Dargle as it plunges 121m (397ft) over Ireland’s highest waterfall into Powerscourt Estate.
As you drive towards the Waterfall you are surrounded by Beech, Oak, Larch and Pine trees some of which were planted over 200 years ago. Look out for the Giant Redwoods, which are native to Northern California where they may grow up to 80m high and live for 4,000 years so they are still youngsters! The Waterfall is a haven for wildlife and children can have fun trying to spot some of the locals – the Chaffinch, Cuckoo, Raven and the Willow Warbler. Some other inhabitants are the Sika Deer which were introduced to Ireland in 1858 and there may be a red squirrel or two.
The landscape surrounding Powerscourt Waterfall didn’t always look like this. Had you been there 20,000 years ago you would have been very cold indeed, as Ireland was in the frozen grip of an Ice Age! The steep cliff over which the waterfall flows was created by a glacier which, as it retreated, carved out a valley. Powerscourt Waterfall is known as a ‘horse-tail’ waterfall, because the water stays in contact with the bedrock as it falls. Powerscourt Waterfall is an ideal location for summer picnics and barbecues. There is a vast amount of space to keep children entertained. There is also a playground for younger children. Avoca One of Ireland’s best-loved cafés and stores
Avoca is an Irish, family-run business that is one of the oldest surviving manufacturers in the world, home to some of Ireland’s best-loved cafés and retail. Once upon a time there was a Mill in the picturesque village of Avoca, County Wicklow. It was set up in 1723 as a cooperative where farmers could spin and weave their wool. Today, Avoca has grown into one of Ireland’s most loved brands producing signature throws and blankets, using natural yarns like lamb’s wool, cashmere, mohair and angora. As well as weaving classic patterns, their design studio creates brand new ideas for throws, blankets and scarves season by season. To this day, they continue to handweave at the original mill in Avoca village.

Manny Pacquiao V Floyd Mayweather Jr
Roy Jones Jr Former world heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr. weighed in on the MayweatherPacquiao superfight, claiming that Mayweather will need to knock out Pacquiao in order to emerge victorious. Sugar Ray Leonard “I would say I lean toward Mayweather because he hasn’t tasted defeat and he doesn’t want to taste defeat. And I look at Pacquiao and I see a guy, a champion, who is equipped with such speed and power and unfortunately he was KO’d bigtime by [Juan Manuel] Marquez. “Most fighters that get knocked out that way don’t come back the right way. But if there is anyone who can do it, it’s Pacquiao. All fighters have one big fight left in them. My last fight was Hagler, I came back and I still had everything.

Monday 18th MaY “I don’t know if it’s going to show up or be present for either guy. If it’s present for one guy, that guy is going to dominate. If it comes from both of them, it’s going to be a hell of a fight.” Evander Holyfield I think it’s a toss-up, because their styles are just that different,” he said, to Newsday. “Pacquiao, the only way he can win is if he corners him off. Can he corner him off? If he corners him off, I think he will win. I don’t think he can. But that’s what makes the fight so interesting.” Holyfield adds that Pacquiao must “take chances” against the unbeaten Mayweather. “The only way you’re going to beat Mayweather is if he takes some chances.” There is a lot of pressure on both of them to beat their opponent. The pressure is heavy on Floyd, for whom the “0” means more than anything. “It’s his identity. And the further along he goes with each fight, the heavier the pressure is on him. You have to really bear down and you aren’t as fresh and comfortable as you were earlier. Things creep into your mind.
