New exhibits at Tara’s Palace Tara’s Palace, Museum of Childhood at Powerscourt House, Co. Wicklow has been made a kind donation of three 6ft cars, a Bugatti a Hispano Suiza and a Rolls Royce. All three cars were made by Hugh McGrath, he was by trade a Mechanic and a welder, he built all three cars outof recycled bits and pieces. The launch of these cars will be held on Sunday the 14th of October at 2pm with help of the MG Enthusiasts Club of Ireland who will all be lined up outside Powerscourt House along with our three new acquisitions which will then go into the Museum, so we will have lots of interesting things for boys and girls and indeed men and women.

Transport

Arriving in style is high on the list for every bride and groom (but especially the bride, because let’s face it – it is essentially all about her!), whether it be the initial trip to the church or to and from the celebration venue. Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre

Dalkey Castle & Heritage Centre in the heart of the scenic heritage town of Dalkey is open all year round 6 days per week. (Closed on Tuesday). The site is comprised of an early Christian Church & Graveyard, a fourteenth century fortified town house/castle (where the living history performances occur) and a modern Heritage Centre which interprets the site.

Experienced guides will help you to explore the site and examine the Church and Castle features that are still in evidence from much earlier times. All year we have actors from Deilg Inis Living History Theatre Company to enlighten, engage, amuse and entertain you as part of the Guided Tour.

The daily living history tour ‘Discover Dalkey’s Tudor Secrets’ will enlighten you on many aspects of Tudor life in Ireland. Throughout the year there are seasonal variations and in November and December all the medieval Christmas traditions are incorporated into the live theatre performances. From January to April the focus is on medieval Dalkey. An education programme runs alongside this which covers all the eras of Dalkey’s illustrious history. turing the work of well-known writers from the area and proved to be very popular. (Maeve Binchy, Flann O’Brien, Hugh Leonard, GB Shaw & James Joyce). We also host a varied programme of events throughout the year, mainly featuring work from our great literary heritage. Through the summer 2012, events such as The Dalkey Book Festival (15th-17th June) and the Bloomsday Festival (16th June) bring many visitors to Dalkey.

Dalkey developed into its present form during the 19th century and it remains unspoilt. Many of its shops and restaurants have unusual facades, and the private homes are striking – there are artisan cottages, grand castellated buildings, and modern minimal houses, all enjoying the fabulous outlook towards Dalkey island and across the Irish sea. Dublin’s rich and famous have gravitated here. Past residents include George Bernard Shaw, who lived in Torca Cottage (on Dalkey hill) from 1866 to 1874. Modern local heroes include writers, film directors, musicians, racing drivers, TV presenters and a fair contingent of the local business elite.

Shopping and Going out The shopping in the village is small scale and interesting. There are jewellers, fashion, flower and furniture shops, art galleries, one or two arty gift shops and the re-opening of the public library. Dalkey Island Dalkey Island is situated about 16 km (10 mi) south of Dublin, near the village of Dalkey, two miles south of Dún Laoghaire harbour. The island is now uninhabited by humans, but there are the remains of houses, a church and a Martello Tower. Located less than 300 metres offshore the island comprises 9 hectares (22 acres). From Bulloch Harbour, it is possible to rent a boat to visit the island.

Dalkey Island, only 5 minutes by local boat from Coliemore Harbour, is an important site of ancient and historic remains. Artefacts from the island, now housed in the National Museum in Dublin, are evidence that the original occupants were from the Mesolithic or Middle Stone Age. Settlers continued to use the site through the Iron Age and Early Christian period. A promontory fort was located at the northern end of the island,

right through until 5:00 pm (Last orders 4.45pm). We also offer a full wine list. Visa/ Mastercard and Laser are accepted. Oct 20th 2012 Danny Garcia v Erik Morales II Former WBA super world light welterweight champion, Amir Khan, was hoping for a December rematch against undefeated Danny Garcia, but “Swift” has plans of his own. Instead of giving Khan a rematch, Garcia will defend his WBA and WBC light welterweight titles against Erik Morales on Oct. 20. The main event is going to be Danny Garcia, obviously the Puerto Rican from Philadelphia, and Erik Morales, the Mexican. Erik feels that in his last fight, that when he came off of surgery, that he wasn’t at his best. He’s convinced that he’s going to beat Danny Garcia this time around. Given how decisive Garcia’s win against Morales was, a rematch between the two doesn’t really make any sense. Sure, Morales had his moments during the fight, but Garcia was clearly the better boxer inside the ring. When one considers the fact that Garcia is 24 years-old, while Morales is 35, it’s hard to see doing any better in the rematch.
