The second quarter of 2019 has been busy and exciting for us working to build more routes in our network to serve you better. On 17th April, 2019 we launched our new services to Kinshasa, our 27th destination with three weekly direct flights, which in May became six as a result of three additional night flights to offer better connections to passengers travelling to Europe.

Le 17 Avril 2019, nous avons lancé notre nouvelle ligne vers Kinshasa, notre 27ème destination avec trois vols directs hebdomadaires qui sont devenus six vols en Mai avec l’ajout de trois vols de nuit pour offrir de meilleures liaisons aux passagers à destination d’Europe.

We are continuing our expansion plan in the Middle East and Asia in June with three weekly flights operating an Airbus A330 to Guangzhou in China. Guangzhou will be tagged to the existing Mumbai route that has been operational since April 2017. We will also commence flights to Tel Aviv in Israel three times a week. We have been thinking about your demand to increase frequencies on our Brussels-London route and have added a fourth flight to help you connect with your friends and families during this summer holiday season. From July to mid-September, we will operate this route on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. In April 2019, we completed the migration of our all our passenger service systems used for Reservation, Ticketing, Inventory, Ecommerce, Loyalty, Check-in, Departure and Load Control to a world class system provider – Amadeus Altéa. We are now able to offer our passengers an enhanced on-line booking experience, a quicker check-in service, and an improved frequent flyer program. After sponsoring Tour du Rwanda, Aviation Africa and Africa CEO forum during the 1st quarter, RwandAir was also proud to sponsor the Transform Africa 2019 Summit held at Kigali Convention Centre from 14th -17th May. This high profile summit attracted over 4,000 delegates including Heads of State, Government Officials, UN Broadband Commissioners, Industry Leaders, Innovators, High Net-Worth Investors and many more. Nous sommes maintenant en mesure d’offrir à nos passagers une expérience de réservation en ligne améliorée, un service d’enregistrement plus rapide et un programme de fidélité évoluée. The inaugural Mu Masangano art exhibition held at the Kigali School of Architecture from March 15 to April 5, 2019 on the side-lines of the International Forum on Urban Spaces and supported by the Rwanda Art Initiative and the Fine Arts of Brussels will remain a highlight of the year artistically speaking.

You have created an improved version of Inanga that we have seen you play live. Can you tell us more about it? Yes. It is the work of my brother who lives in Canada. We still had problems mixing the sound of the Inanga during our live performances because the original sound of the instrument cannot be connected to the sound system like guitars, piano and others. My brother worked with a manufacturer of musical instruments in Canada to release this version which has the same sound and the same strings as the traditional Inanga, but which can be connected to a sound system and mixed like any other instrument.

Our priority is expanding our financial services portfolio to make our brand into a One-Stop Center under which those services are available to customers. We separate into a group of companies. For instance, our insurance is going to become an important part of our business, last year insurance had a of 2% market penetration in Rwanda. Insurance is a product that is not bought, its effectively solved, we have to be in a position to show people the benefits of insurance. I believe that in the next four, five to six years, our insurance business is going to be as big as our banking business. I believe that it’s in the interest of the market that there be some consolidation, it’s no secret that we are shopping for a potential consolidation in the market, insurance is a business that serves a very important public need. The consolidation will resolve into better efficiency, pricing and opportunities for consumers to buy better. Sustainability By being listed on the Nairobi Stock Exchange, it gives us greater access to capital, increase liquidity and there are also tremendous other benefits for raising our profile. Ten years ago the bank had 200 million dollars in assets, in 2019, the bank has crossed the billion dollar threshold of assets, that’s a huge victory for the Bank and for Rwanda, We are constantly looking for better ways to serve our customers, 27% of Rwandan have bank accounts, we believe that number should be up in the 70%, or 80% We are all about financial inclusion, tightening our margins, lowering our pricing and serving the population of this country.

Greetings to you Hello Kinshasa (Mbote nayo, in Lingala). These two languages (French and Lingala) overlap each other in the huge country that is the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kinshasa, the capital, is the largest French-speaking megalopolis in the world. By Arnaud Nkusi

Kinshasa has slightly over 17, 1 million residents and covers 965 000 square kilometers. After Lagos and Cairo, this Congolese city is the third largest in Africa. In the air, something nice emerges, a simple Lingala conversation seduces those who do not speak this language but love it without really knowing why. “For the vibe”, some people tell me. While most still do not know why, this language, one of the four main national languages, enjoys popular sympathy of which only it holds the secret. Tshiluba, Swahili and Kikongo have their uniqueness and aren’t any less beautiful than the legendary Lingala.

The joy of living The spirit of the residents of the Congolese capital are called Kinois. They are highly alert and resourceful. “To a valiant heart, nothing is impossible” is an adage tailored to them. The joy of living, the crazy love of all forms of art and sports, spontaneous communication and the taste of adventure are assets that strike everyone arriving for the first time in Kinshasa. The Kinois is so ‘tonic’ and enterprising that this attitude could baffle many. Keen on business, the Congolese capital is very attractive in many ways. First, like an empty dashboard, everything awaits rebuilding. The return of political stability and security in the country will contribute to the improvement of the business environment, if the improvement persists and evolves as expected by the Congolese. The areas of security, road infrastructure, transport of people and goods, health, agriculture, manufacturing, education, communications, but to name but a few are laden with opportunities. In Kinshasa, we will most likely visit because we have heard about it, a bit like Rio, to discover ourselves, rather than for its attractiveness, because of the very long period of political and economic crisis. It’s best to roll up our sleeves and put ourselves to the heavy task of reconstruction taking place all over. The Congolese diaspora and its many and diverse friends are likely to bring a lot to the

Two days in Rwanda’s tea country How do you drink your tea? Black or green? Strong or weak? Do you take it bitter or sweet? Or with milk perhaps? No matter how you sip your tea, all tea aficionados can enjoy their perfect cup and learn all about the journey of the tea leaf from the field to the cup at SORWATHE plantation, tea factory and guesthouse in Kinihira, about 70km north of Kigali. It is a pleasant drive, less than two hours from Kigali, with views over hills and tea plantations and, upon leaving the main road, quirky teapot signs that show the way to the estate. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with – what else? – a hot cup of tea. The 10-room guest house is situated within the premises of the estate amidst a lavish flower garden. From here it is an easy stroll to the factories and plantations. The food is excellent, a typical mix of stew, vegetables, potatoes and rice, and if weather permits, you can enjoy your meals on the veranda which offers 180-degree views over the plantation. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, suitable for families. And for good measure there is a tennis court, a dart board and even a billiards room to spend a rainy day.

How beautiful and soothing would it have been, to sit down in one of the rooms at the Kigali Genocide Memorial and write about why I could not stop crying, or why I was so angry? Pili Pili’s popularity with Kigalians and foreign visitors, including international celebrities is no coincidence. Its atmosphere delicately blends the rustic feel of an East African game lodge setting (simple but tasteful wood design), and a Nantucket beach bar, for those familiar with the isolated but dream destination island off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, in the US. SEATING

ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Electronic Devices may not be used during taxing, takeoff, climbing, descent and landing. This includes laptop computers, remote-controlled games, radios, portable TVs and mobile phones, all of which may interfere with the safe operation of the aircraft.

TAKE-OFF

Immediately after takeoff the aircraft climbs very steeply. Shortly afterwards you will hear a reduction in the engine sound, but the aircraft will continue to climb. All aircraft cabins are pressurized. Due to change in pressure during takeoff and landing, some passengers may experience slight discomfort in the ear. Relieve this by swallowing, yawning or pinching the nostrils gently and breathing out whilst keeping lips sealed. Should you feel unwell at any time, please ask the cabin crew for assistance.

LANDING

After touch down, you may notice an increase in engine noise level due to the reverse thrust being applied to assist braking. Please remain seated until the engines have been switched off and the doors are opened. Before leaving the aircraft, ensure you have all your belongings with you. Always keep your belt fastened until the plane comes to a complete stop.

The Frogs were much pleased and a good deal frightened

came wriggling and swimming among them. But as the days went on, and the eel was perfectly harmless, they 134

Soon they sent a third messenger to Jove, and begged that they might have a better king - a king who was worth while. It was too much; Jove was angry at their stupidity at last. "I will give you a king such as you deserve!" he said; and he sent them a Stork. As soon as the Frogs came to the surface to greet the new king, King Stork caught them in his long bill and gobbled them up. One after another they came bobbing up, and one after another the stork ate them. He was indeed a king worthy of them!
