Your credit score is key to your financial health, affecting loan approvals and interest rates A higher score can save you money Here are some simple ways to improve your score:
1. Pay Bills on Time
Payment history is crucial. Set reminders or automate payments to avoid late fees and build a strong record
2 Keep Credit Utilization Low
Use less than 30% of your credit limit to show responsibility. Pay down balances or request a credit limit increase to improve your ratio.
3. Check for Errors
Review your credit report for mistakes. Request free copies from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, and dispute inaccuracies
4 Reduce Debt, Don’t Transfer
Focus on paying down debt instead of just moving it around. Prioritize high-interest accounts to see positive score changes.
5. Avoid Too Many New Accounts
Each credit application can temporarily lower your score. Only open accounts when necessary
6 Keep Old Accounts Open
Longer credit history improves your score. Unless they have high fees, keep older cards open to show reliability.
7. Consider Secured Credit
If rebuilding credit, use a secured card responsibly to establish good habits and improve your score
8 Seek Help if Needed
Non-profits offer credit counseling and debt management plans. Reach out for guidance if you're overwhelmed.
