A Note From Sam Samantha Snipes
Director IPHC Women’s Ministries Ssnipes@iphc.org
Prayer changes everything! We have the responsibility and authority to pray as believers walking out our faith. Our prayers can be the very catalyst for change. Let’s pray every day, setting into motion His will and seeing the world change by the force of prayer. Let’s do this together!

According to the dictionary, the word “force” is an object’s mass multiplied by its acceleration. Let’s bring in some physics

of the pendulum as our life. Satan is pushing the pendulum; however, our obedient prayers create an opposing force. Our prayers increase the force and multiply the acceleration of God’s will on earth. More prayers equal greater results! Think of heaven and His pervasive presence, everyone experiencing absolute peace, health, and joy. We could experience His will on earth as it is in heaven. What an amazing thought! Jesus teaches us how we should pray in Matthew 6:913 NIV. “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’”
If each believer prays daily, there will be exponential results as God’s force moves across the earth and increases for His purposes.
This prayer calls the will of God into our lives and into the world. Our obedience in prayer impacts the life-changing force of prayer; it changes everything. In Tauren Wells’ song, When We Pray, the chorus says, “All the world starts changing, when the church starts praying.” We ask for His will, reject temptation, and God delivers us from the evil one. There is a lot of evil in the world. We do not need to fear because we have the power of the Holy Spirit. We are free to walk in His liberating victory. We are ambassadors of God almighty on this earth. We walk in His power each time we pray and the force of prayer changes the world. If we, as the people of God, act on the knowledge we have, it would change everything. We have the power to utter prayers and change the trajectory of the future.

re you hurting and broken within?” I find the answer to this question on the unspoken lips of so many women I meet. It is displayed in
their eyes because our eyes often reveal what lies hidden deep in our soul. It is almost as if they are afraid to reveal the brokenness of their lives because they think it would somehow disqualify them for service to the King. I have been there myself. The enemy of our soul wants to trick us into thinking that we have nothing to offer. Women often look around at the gifts and talents others possess and allow it to keep them from stepping into their God-given role. God created each and every one of you for a purpose that no one else can do. You are irreplaceable, treasured, and loved more than you can comprehend. Deuteronomy 7:6 says, “For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession.” (NIV) We often view being broken as something negative, not realizing that God uses brokenness. Broken soil to produce a crop, broken clouds to give rain, broken grain to give bread, broken bread to give strength. It is the broken alabaster box that gives forth perfume. It is Peter, weeping bitterly, who returns to greater power than ever. This is my prayer for you, that you allow God to transform your pain and brokenness into something beautiful. Nothing is beyond the reach of God, and He loves to give us beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. I want to share a powerful story with you about how

we can change the very trial we are facing. We are carriers of the very presence of our Lord and Savior and nothing can stay the same in His Presence. “A young woman went to her grandmother and told her about her life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting and struggling. It seemed that as one problem was solved, a new one arose. Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to a boil. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs, and the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit and boil, without saying a word.”

launching pad of our greatest calling.
“She brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft. She then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee. The daughter smiled as she tasted its rich aroma. The granddaughter then asked, “What does it mean, Grandmother?” Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity — boiling water — but each reacted differently. The carrot went in strong, hard and unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and became weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, it’s inside became hardened.” “The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, they had changed the water. ‘Which are you?’ she asked her granddaughter. ‘When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?’” “Think of this: Which am I? Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain and adversity, do I wilt and become soft and lose my strength? Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship, or some other trial, have I become hardened and stiff? Does my shell look the same, but am I bitter

and tough on the inside with a stiff spirit and a hardened heart?” “Or am I the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot, it releases the fragrance and flavor of your life. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better and change the situation around you. When the hours are the darkest and trials are their greatest, do you elevate to another level?” Here are some keys to help you during your trials: • Know that God loves to use brokenness. “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalms 147:3 • Know that God has promised to work “All things out for good to those who love Him.” Romans 8:2 • Know that the battle is the Lord’s and “no weapon formed against you will prosper.” Isaiah 54:17 • Run into your heavenly Father’s arms!

There is yet a “cause” even in our day. We work, shop, laugh and also worship with women crouched on the sidelines trapped in fear by the enemy. Such women are broken, bruised, and battered. Some are so wounded they are limping or weak to the point that they cannot go on. To your peers, you might appear to be the most unlikely person to engage in such situations. I once decided...

to go from SUPER long hair to a cute, choppy, shoulder length bob. I visited a HIGHLY recommended + trendy school, showed the picture, and the gal seemed very confident. She prepped my hair for layering and the first chop hit right under my ear- WAY above shoulder length. I asked her to stop and bring over an instructor. After all but shouting at me that she was the professional and I was out of line, she angrily fetched her teacher. Long story short- I left with heartbreakingly short hair that had one style on the left, one on the right, and a stacked bob in back. It was a hot mess and took MONTHS to even out.
haircut has to be, unfortunately, one that I requested! I was about to leave on a missions trip to Colombia and my thought was... “It’s going to be hot, so I should get it cut really short, so it won’t be on my neck. Bad thought!!!! I didn’t take in to consideration that Colombia has 200% humidity and that mixed with my naturally crazy curly hair would make me look just like a chia pet in every single picture. Sometimes I want my hair cut short, but then a chia pet pops in my head.

awkward, and obnoxious 5th grader. It was 2 days before church camp, and all I wanted was to be cool. I saw a haircut in a magazine, and I knew that was my ticket to cool kid land. It was a trendy 2006 haircut, longer in the front and shorter in the back, so you could spike it up and layer it. Worst mistake of my life. When I looked in the mirror after my hairdresser was done, I gasped out of shock. I quickly recovered with a high-pitched squeal of “It looks so great-it’s the best haircut I’ve ever had-I LOVE it.” Two words to describe the haircut: Backwards Mullet. That afternoon in May 2003, I heard Jesus’ statement in Mark, “The child is not dead, she just sleeps.” (Mark 5:41 NKJV) I knew that the Spirit of God spoke to me, “MY CHURCH IS NOT DEAD, BUT SLEEPING, continue praying for life, so that she will ARISE because the coming revival will be greater than that of Azusa Street.” It was as though He silenced the preacher to speak to me and captivated my heart. a vision of an army of white horses commanded by the great King of kings and Lord of lords. I could hear the galloping of the horses and feel the dust they raised. I remembered the word of Isaiah 13:4b, “Jehovah of armies reviews the troops for battle.” In that moment, a passion came to me, lighting a fire that will never go out. A fire for the Spirit of Resurrection (Jesus Christ, John 11:25) to come to my life, to my church, to my nation, and to the nations of the earth. Through all of this, He called me to ARISE. Now, God is calling YOU to ARISE. Beautiful women of God, I want to tell you that God is raising up an army of women, disciples of Christ, who remain in His word, who believe it, who speak it, and who bring life to everything that is dead. (Ezekiel 16:6, Ezekiel 37:9) Surely God has shown you places, situations, and lives where mortality prevails. It is time to act and speak over your marriage, your children, your church, and your nation. It is time to believe the

Of course, God has given each of us unique ways to expand his kingdom, and I may end up reaching people for Jesus differently than you do. But ultimately, the goal is the same! Follow him and make disciples. Lastly, we have all been given the ground between our own two feet. Let me explain: the place you find yourself right now—the ground between your feet—that’s your mission field. Before Jesus ascended into heaven, he said these last words to his disciples: “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Sometimes, I think we get so lost wondering what our future holds that we end up oblivious to what the present offers. We get busy searching for the ends of the earth and forget to begin in the familiar places. Yes, Jesus made it clear that his plan included the entire

world. But note that the retaking of the world began with the place in closest proximity to his followers—Jerusalem. His disciples already knew the people, spoke their language, understood the culture, and were known, in turn, by their fellow Jews. It was, among many things, strategic and logical to begin the biggest mission of all right where they were. So, I ask you, where is the ground God has placed between your two feet? If it’s in Jerusalem, stay there! Don’t be concerned about your Judea and Samaria. Start in Jerusalem. When we say yes to Jesus Christ, we accept the call and the mission, and we must also submit to wherever and whomever he may send us. It’s not our job to worry about the next step. And maybe Jerusalem isn’t so easy, and you just want to move on to Samaria. I encourage you to unpack and stay! God has placed you where you are for a reason. Realize that God has entrusted you with an opportunity to influence that place, and those people for His Kingdom. In 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV, Paul tells the congregation

There is a special poem that I love year-round and I love to incorporate it in my décor, especially for a special party, shower, etc. That poem, simply entitled “Silver Boxes” by Michael Bright, was printed in a book by Florence Littauer. Her book title was Silver Boxes: The Gift of Encouragement. I honestly cannot even tell you how, when, or where I first came across the poem, but I do know that it has been at least two or three decades ago. I have used it in many devotions and training sessions over the years. When I unpacked a framed version of that poem with my Christmas decorations last November, I immediately reconnected with its powerful message. Since we have embarked on a new year, I felt compelled to write about it. If you are still thinking about changes you need to make, this is definitely one worth considering.

in which she features the poem by Michael Bright. The verses recall times of hurtful and harsh words. Because of copyright issues, I can’t include the poem, but click here to read it online. The last two verses extol us to let our words be like silver boxes that are beautifully wrapped and ready to give. The treasures in these boxes are not gifts that can be held physically, but words that edify and uplift and touch the heart. Proverbs 25:11 tells us, “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver” (NKJV). A silver box then is the perfect setting from which words of encouragement can flow! When I display this poem in my house, I like to have silver boxes next to it. It is a reminder to myself to guard my tongue.

>>PROJECT KID >>QUESTION “As a hardworking parent, it is tough to see my child have little motivation to do anything. It affects his school work and he no longer wants to attend youth group. In my efforts to talk and encourage him, he only shuts me out. How do I help instill in him a desire to live by Colossians 3:23, ‘Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…’?”
>>ANSWER by Director of Boys Ministries, David Moore Knowing how to properly motivate someone is an extremely difficult and sensitive issue. Unfortunately, there is no simple formula for how best to accomplish this. If we apply too much pressure we can do more harm than good, not enough and there is no change. The first step, as in anything that we do, is to ask the Lord for His wisdom and direction in everything we say and do. God is the only one who knows the heart and He alone can change and heal those hearts. The next step is to for us to examine our expectations, as parents we sometimes send the wrong messages to our children about our expectations and the accompanying love or lack of love associated with either meeting or failing to meet these expectations. This sometimes leads to a feeling of, “why bother, I can’t ever please them.” We need to make sure our children know and believe that our love for them is always unconditional. Next, we need to try and identify the source of the lack of motivation. Sometimes it may be as simple as just not understanding the importance of the task. Movies, books, stories or listening to others tell how they went the “extra mile” can help. Other times, it is the outward display of deeper issues of the heart. Some of the things we need to look at might indicate that this is more than just a lack of motivation. Is this lack of motivation a sudden change or a developing character trait? Is this attitude directed at just one area such as school work or does it crossover into other areas of their life? Are there other personality changes or issues that are presenting themselves at the same time? Several of these factors occurring at the same time, may indicate a deeper heart issue that needs to be dealt with through love, counseling, and prayer. Send your questions to kids@iphc.org!
