Welcome to Jordan !

We have been talking about it ‌ dreaming about it and its finally here !!! in this summer we are all honored to have you in EMPS 2010 in our beloved country Jordan, a young country for all seasons dense with history, full of natural wonders and historical sites, a well-travelled bridge between sea and desert, east and west, and an open air museum in almost all its entirety ‌ welcome all !

Practical info about Jordan Language: Arabic is the official language, but English is understood by most people involved in the tourist industry and by middle to upper class Jordanians.

Currency: The official currency is the Dinar (JOD), which is divided into 100 piastres or 1,000 fils. Foreign currency and travelers cheques can be changed at any bank or moneychanger, although the latter will usually give a better rate of exchange. Banks are closed on Fridays. Better hotels will also exchange money. American Express, Visa, MasterCard and Diners Club are the most widely accepted credit cards and can be used at major hotels, restaurants and tourist shops; cash can be withdrawn from inside banks. ATMs are available, though acceptance of foreign cards is limited.

Time: Local time is GMT +2 (GMT +3 from April to October).

Electricity: Electrical current is 220 volts AC, 50Hz. European two-pin plugs are the most common.

Communications: The international dialing code for Jordan is +962. The outgoing code is 00 followed by the relevant country code (e.g. 0027 for South Africa). Jordan has international direct dialing with most countries. City/area codes are in use, e.g. (0)3 for both Aqaba and Petra, and (0)6 for Amman. Mobile phone companies have roaming agreements with most international mobile phone operators. There are Internet cafes in Amman and most major towns.

 IPSF EMRO Orientation:

It is a workshop, where a general introduction to IPSF EMRO will be done and a full description of all IPSF EMRO executive positions and their duties’ in the Organization  PCE: Patient counseling Event Intro-

duction  SEP: Student Exchange Program

The IPSF Student Exchange Program has allowed students from IPSF member organizations and IPSF Individual Members to explore pharmacy in another country since 1958. Currently, close to 60 associations throughout the world participate in SEP and over 600 international exchanges take place every year.  RA: Regional Assembly

This is an opening session for the Regional Assembly, where it will be taught how the RA works. Thus it is important for the participants to be present at this session to understand the function of the Regional Assembly as well as getting to know more about the rules and regulation of IPSF and IPSF EMRO.

CP: Contact person

The contact person is the one responsible for all the communication between the association and IPSF or any IPSF Regional offices.

It is a workshop about the tasks and responsibilities of the association contact person, for a better understanding as well as improving the quality of work of the Contact person in the local or national association.  PCE: Patient Counseling Event The Patient Counseling Event (PCE) aims to demonstrate the importance of pharmacy counseling skills, increase awareness of pharmacists as public educators, and to encourage and promote the development of the pharmacy profession. 

Community Service:

The campaign will include a trip with the volunteers and the kids to explore the Children’s Museum and learn following that we will have lunch with the children at a fast food restaurant finishing of a nice afternoon filled with laughter and learning at the same time for the orphan children and the volunteers. 

 Tour: An early morning ride to look into Amman and the old city.  Pharmacy One: It is the leading chain pharmacy in Jordan, this lecture will include an introduction to Pharmacy one and it is successful experience in the field of pharmacy practice.  KHCC: King Hussein Cancer Center This lecture will explore the work of the leading cancer center in Jordan and it’s experience in clinical pharmacy field.  Scientific Poster: It is an exhibition of scientific posters from the region and Jordan presented by pharmacy students and fresh graduates.  LIT Workshop 1 The IPSF Leaders In Training (LIT) program is primarily aimed to train pharmacy students interested in taking up leadership roles at their local, national or IPSF level to become better leaders and ensure that there is a certain standard of leadership amongst new leaders every year. The LIT program is also combined with the potential to help LIT participants to be successful trainers and provide the same LIT training program with the same leadership topics for their local student associations. 

Community Service As a part of our efforts to come up with something different, beneficial and fun and our strong belief in education as an essential tool that will help children in the future we decided to focus on underprivileged orphaned children and giving them an afternoon full of excitement and joy by taking them to the Children’s Museums of Jordan The Children's Museum CMJ– Jordan This exciting venue is the first hands-on establishment of its kind in the Kingdom and is filled each day with the joy of new discoveries. Opened in May 2007, CMJ was brought to life as part of Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah’s commitment to children's well being, education and development.

The Children's Museum CMJ is dedicated to serving children. With over 150 interactive exhibits, the Museum is guaranteed to delight visitors of all ages. A variety of inventive, educational programs and dynamic activities ensure that the Museum is a stimulating setting where learning and fun go hand in hand.

Above all, CMJ is a place where children can touch, experiment, create and interact comfortably with their environment and with each other.

Poster exhibition The theme for the poster exhibition is patient counseling, it is defined as providing medication information orally or in written form to the patients or their representatives on directions of use, advice on side effects, precautions, storage, diet and life style modifications.

Patient counseling is the talk of the pharmaceutical community these days due to the rising importance of patient counseling in community pharmacy and the increased awareness of the pharmacists role as a medical care provider within the community, for those reasons Patient Counseling was our choice for this year poster exhibition The posters will include: Data and information from real pharmacies where patient counseling is being implemented.

Participants will have the chance to demonstrate their posters, all the posters in the exhibition will be evaluated, the winner will be awarded with a certificate for his/her 1st place and a prize will be offered to the winning poster at the end of the exhibition



Public health campaign with Royal Health Awareness Society We at JPSA are very proud to work hand in hand with the RHAS on our public health campaign “Smoking Free Cool Generation” This year in cooperation with the RHAS we are looking forward to establishing a new program that will help to educate youth about smoking and it’s dangerous consequences.

“Smoking Free Cool Generation” campaign is mainly concerned about the passive smokers, how smoking affects their lives and well-being.

This campaign is divided into several stages, where EMPS 2010 participants will get the chance to explore and work with us on this project.

One of the main goals is to establish firm rules and regulations that will prohibit smoking in places like universities, where we will announce the faculty of pharmacy/ University of Jordan the role model for this campaign, as well as educating non-smokers about their rights to lead a healthy, smoking free lives!

It is cool not to SMOKE! This project is directed by the RHAS, as it is the leading organization in Jordan that provides our society with programs, projects and activities related to our health and well-being!

Time : 14th of July 2010 Location : Amman - Jordan (public areas) We aim to encourage non-smokers to speak out loudly and demand of their, and our, negligible rights of having smoking-free public places and the enforcement of those already existing laws everyone forgot about it and having smoking-free places and smoking booths for smokers, which is supposed to be the normal situation not the opposite, which is annoying and harming everybody around them with their bad habit.

Did you know?

Some of the world’s earliest known churches have been recently discovered in Jordan. The remains of a mud brick building in Aqaba may be the world’s oldest known purpose built church. This Aqaba early church dates from the late 3rd or early 4th century AD.

2. A night to remember: 10th of July 2010 Did you ever wonder what is about to visit another country while you are staying in the same room!?

Grab your national dress, most delicious sweet and tasty drink and join us...

It is a night where we are gonna explore and enjoy different cultures, not only that, most of our EMPS guests are in Jordan for the first time, and most probably you are one of them, so lets enjoy Jordan!

Lets see it differently away from routine and stereotypes!

You will get the chance to look into Jordan and see Amman in a unique different way!

For the international night every participant has the chance to introduce his/her country, so what to get?

World Cup night: 11th of July 2010 “You're a good soldier Choosing your battles Pick yourself up And dust yourself off And back in the saddle Waka Waka eh eh Tsamina mina zangalewa Anawa aa This time for Africa” You definitely chose a team already and so excited to know who is gonna hold the cup this time.

Together with EMPS team we are going to enjoy a night full of fun, suspense and great moments…

What to get?

You can bring your ”favorite team” flag, T-shirt or anything else.

4. Free Night: 12th of July 2010 This is a wonderful opportunity for you to explore the city; you can go for some shopping or just have some rest!

It is summer here; coffee shops, restaurants, malls and many other places are open till late at night, you can visit some cultural places or souvenir shops to get your gifts!

Hang out with your newly made friends, you can go shopping or visit new places here in Amman, or anything else these long tiring symposium days have been keeping you away!

what to do, count on us, we are here to help you and provide you with all the info you need to choose the perfect place and have the best time ever!

What to get?

1. On that day in the morning there will be a morning ride around Amman to visit some historical places, so make sure you get a cap as it might be sunny and hot, and comfortable shoes.

2. As for the “Free Night” you will need to get your pocket money for shopping and souvenirs, etc. *Make sure you ask EMPS reception committee to provide you with city map, or any directions before you go anywhere!

5. Walk around Amman: 13th of July 2010 This is another extraordinary chance to see Amman; we are going to take you for a short walk around the most famous and beautiful places in our beloved capital!

Lets see the sunset, eat some tasty traditional food, and do not forget your camera; there is a lot to capture!

What to get?

Please remember to bring comfortable shoes and your camera

6. Gala dinner: 14th of July 2010 Gowns, Tuxedos, Ball Room Dancing. A night of your dreams! Celebrating the End of our Symposium.

It is the final moments that we will definitely enjoy and never forget!

After a week of work, learning and training it is time to enjoy and have some rest, it is a night where you will have the chance to see all your new friends in a relaxing, fun atmosphere!

Saying goodbye is always hard and sad, but we promise you something special and amazing!

What to get?

1. Dress Code FORMAL: Evening gowns and tuxedos 2. Dress up and get your smile with you for a lot of photos and great moments!

What to bring back for the family from a visit to Jordan?

Among the most popular things to buy in Jordan are the decorated sand bottles, sometimes with the most intricate designs done in the sand, with the aid of a knitting needle and a funnel!

Other things such as souvenirs whether knives, the jewellery, boxes , the embroidered cushions , ceramics or even Jordanian “kefiyas” all very nice indeed!
