2# PharmaNews PARO Presents: Preventive measures for pregnant women to avoid COVID-19 infection for themselves and their newborn Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Coronaviruses are animal and human pathogens, in late 2019 a new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was identified as the cause of a group of pneumonia cases in Wuhan, a city in China's Hubei province, then it became in an epidemic throughout China so that in the end it becomes a global pandemic. Pregnancy does not appear to increase susceptibility to infection or worsen the clinical course, and most infected mothers recover without having to give birth. However, a serious illness may occur requiring admission to the maternal intensive care unit and the need for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Infected women, especially those who develop pneumonia, appear to have a higher frequency of preterm labor, rupture of the membranes before delivery, preterm delivery, pre-eclampsia, and cesarean delivery due to fetal distress. Suggestions, recommendations and indications: ●

Pregnant women should follow the same recommendations as non-pregnant women. Children with COVID-19 these are usually asymptomatic or with mild symptoms, however serious cases have been reported.

It is suggested that pregnant health workers in the third trimester, particularly those ≥36 weeks, cease face-to-face contact with patients

Mothers should always wash their hands before and after breastfeeding

It is recommended hospitals completely separate COVID-19 infected mothers from their babies until transmission

The practice of delayed clamping of the umbilical cord in full-term newborns, in whom the benefits are modest, has been suggested to minimize the exposure of newborns to any virus in the immediate environment and reduce chances that the newborn will require phototherapy for jaundice.

It is suggested to discontinue the use of nitrous oxide for occupational analgesia pregnant women due to insufficient data on possible aerosolization of nitrous oxide systems

Any companion is positive for COVID-19 will not be able to assist in the delivery process.

Although glucocorticoids in people with COVID-19 due to the possibility of prolonging viral replication, due to the clear benefits of prenatal administration of betamethasone in patients at risk of preterm delivery, its use is

recommended for standard indications in pregnant patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. All credits of scientific information are for the authors of the scientific article creation!
