FROM THE

EDITOR

Darren Hallesy

I love my movies It seems like yesterday that we just had one cinema screen in Ipswich, in the R.T.Edwards building in East Street. I remember seeing ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ there a few weeks before it closed, and being a Stanley Kubrick film, as usual I had no idea what was going on (still don’t). But fast foward and now we are already celebrating one year of Limelight Cinemas in Ipswich who have helped turned Ipswich into a mecca not only for moviegoers, but for film makers too. It’s proof that we love our movies in Ipswich, and by the end of 2015, we will have gone from one screen to a total of 29 screens from Ipswich City Cinemas, Limelight, Redbank and soon Springfield! Just goes to reflect our growth and the fact we love going out to the movies! In this issue we chat with Elle Dawe, Shannon Noll and Charmaine Wilson all who are coming to town in the next few days. Iit’s certainly a great time of year to get out of this heat and enjoy a movie or some live entertainment. Hope you like this issue as much as we did putting it together for you, and remember it’s FREE to you thanks to our advertisers, so please support them. darren@strikepublications.com.au

Shazza’s coming to town! STAR CHAT CELEBRITY NEWS

It’s the TV series and now movie series that fans can’t get enough of, and now the stars of ‘Fat Pizza vs Housos’ are coming to Ipswich for a special screening of the movie which opens nationally on November 27.

Shazza will be in town along with other cast members for a special preview of the movie on November 19 and is excited about touring the country again in the character of the foulmouthed ‘Houso’ Shazza. “Its very funny how long it took people to get that I’m just an actor playing Shazza,” Elle said. “When they realise I’m really Elle Dawe and they see those glamorous pics of me it’s a bit of a shock. “I don’t get recognised often, but they are like ‘so sorry to ask, but are you Shazza?’ and then when I say yes, people go ‘oh my gosh’, it’s usually very hush hush when they do approach me. I always wonder if I should have done my hair and make up a bit better that day!” With the success of shows like Upper Middle Bogan, Bogan Hunters, What Really Happens in Bali, and Housos, does Elle think that we as a nation are embracing the Bogan in us all? “I think for so long we’ve steered clear of Bogans in the media, but we’ve all grown up with them. It’s nice to now see people on TV that are more relatable to the general public. You don’t see people in tracky dacks and bleached hair on Home & Away or Neighbours. I grew up in Penrith, and Shazza is more of what I saw rather than Summer Bay. “I guess there’s always going to be the haves and have nots. In England they are called Chavs, in the USA it’s Rednecks, in Australia we

call them Bogans. “We meet some interesting people when we promote Housos, mostly from all walks of life. There’s a lot of people that work in areas where the characters are from, like the Department of Housing and they love the show. They see the humour in it.” Elle says that the Fat Pizza/Houso humour maybe uniquely Australian, but the show and movies are loved all over the world. “We have so many loyal fans, so many people love the character, I’m not sure why… but we’ve been very lucky that the fans have stuck with us. “I get a lot of Facebook fans from overseas, especially in the UK. For some reason they relate to the show, and some Americans too. They love the humour we use. Housos is pretty edgy to what you’d see on normal TV here, and with HBO and such screening different shows, they have access worldwide. “I’m looking forward to bringing Shazza to Ipswich. We are going round the country to promote the film, but I don’t think Tassie is on the list, which is a shame, cos they have great quality Bogans down there. “It’s a funny thing, when I first took on the role we didn’t know if we’d gone too far. I keep waiting for someone to say we’re not doing any more, but we might do another movie, or some live stuff… we will keep the character alive as long as people enjoy it.

“Shazza is great fun to play, and if it makes someone else smile by me being a bitch then that’s okay with me. We’ll see you in Ipswich on the 19th!”

GIVEAWAY! Thanks to Limelight Cinemas Riverlink and Transmission Films we have: *5x Double Passes to the preview on Nov 19 featuring a Q&A with the cast PLUS 10x double in-season passes to see ‘Fat Pizza vs Housos’ PLUS a FPVH thong stubbie holder to keep your grog cold! To win, email your details to win@ strikepublications.com.au with the word ‘HOUSOS’ in the subject line. Winners will be contacted by phone on November 18th for the Q&A session, with in-seasons passes being drawn on November 26th.

GIVEAWAY! How would you like to win a prize pack consisting of: • A double pass to see Charmaine’s show on Thursday November 27th • Autographed copy of Charmaine’s first book, ‘Spirit Whispers’ • Autographed copy of her second book, ‘Life Goes On- Spirit Children’ • A deck of her signature Tattoo Oracle cards • A Charmaine Wilson stubby holder • Charmaine’s Heaven’s Gate guided meditation CD Charmaine has generously donated TWO of these prize packs which you can WIN just by sending your details (inc daytime phone number) to win@strikepublications.com.au with the word ‘CHARMAINE’ in the subject line. Or snail mail to Charmaine Contest, PO Box 124, Ipswich Q 4305. Contest closes November 26. Winners contacted by phone.

Charmaine’s mystical messages While others struggle to make a career after winning a reality TV show, Charmaine Wilson is bucking the trend. Six years after winning “The One”, she is working full time, and touring the country constantly. Charmaine Wilson is heading back to Ipswich this month for the final show of her current tour, and she can’t wait to be back on her home turf. “This has been a long tour, I’ve been on the road since the end of July, I’m really keen to get back home, but its been a lot of fun, I’ve met heaps of interesting people and seen so much of the countryside,” Charmaine said on the phone from Inverell where she was heading off to her next stop. “I have to think how many times I’ve been at the Ipswich Civic Centre. The first was back in 2008 from memory… where does the time go?” Charmaine was already working as a Medium before the show came along that would change her life, ‘The One’. The program pitted several psychics against one another, participating in trials which challenge their purported abilities in activities such as clairvoyance, telepathy and medium ship to determine who was Australia’s “top psychic” Charmaine won the show, and has continued to perform all over the country, along with writing two top selling books. “I was doing this before ‘The One’, mainly along the East coast, and had been touring for about four years before the show.” After nine months touring Australia, the Ipswich show is the final chance for locals to see Charmaine in 2014. With her third book of guidance due early next year, Charmaine is as down to earth as they come and connects on a very real level with her loyal audiences. So does Charmaine have a set format for her shows, which can often be very unpredictable?. “I definitely have a format for shows. My husband goes out and shows people how to work the microphones firstly. I then come out and explain what I do, how it works and then the middle part I can’t format…that’s the readings and anything can happen! “At the end I like to give a talk about dealing with grief, in a more positive way that can be useful in life. My big thing is that we are all going to pass one day, its perfectly natural, and

if you know someone that has passed, they are meant to be there…whether we like it or not. The feeling I get from spirits is that they want people left behind to have a long, happy life. “I’ve heard some stories that have ripped my heart out, mediums are not meant to cry but some stories do that to me. I remember one about a four and half year old boy that died suddenly. There were family members there and by the end of the show there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Often I find standout stories that you never forget, and that was one of them. There is another woman I’ve met who lost her daughter and I’m offering her a free spirit workshop, as sometimes I like to give a little bit of help. “I love people walking away from my shows realising that we all grieve, and we do it because as human beings, we love. Some people get so caught up in the moment of death they don’t want to let go, which is all part of the process” Charmaine said. “In the spirit world they aren’t there in the moment of death, and those left behind have to accept that before that moment, they were happy with their life. I think that’s what mediums are for. I feel that we are here to bring the living back to life after going through the unacceptable. “I can understand why people are sceptical of what I do, but the way I see it, if I keep delivering good strong positive messages to people who have lost someone they love… I’m not hurting anyone.” Charmaine recently made the ninth spot on a recently published list of the ‘World’s Top Ten Psychic Mediums’, which had John Edwards at number one. Not bad company to be in! “I have no idea how I made the top ten list, I think it had something to do with winning ‘The One’, along with me getting such a positive response on my facebook page, I’m averaging 4.8 out of 5 and have had that score forever. I don’t know how it happened, but its great!” Charmaine is appearing at Ipswich Civic Centre on November 27. Tickets from www. ipswichciviccentre.com.au

OUT AND ABOUT IN

BLAIR

WITH SHAYNE NEUMANN, MP

Last week I was pleased to host two Ageing forums, one in Ipswich and one in the Somerset Region. We were privileged to have Everald Compton, Chair of the Panel for Positive Ageing, as guest speaker. Everald was part of the team that compiled the Blueprint for an Ageing Australia and he spoke to hundreds of locals about the challenges facing us all as we age. Everald said ageing of the population is one of the biggest social and economic issues facing Australia today and that he would have liked to have seen Ageing on the agenda at the weekend’s G20 Leaders’ Summit. But this Government refuses to address the issue of Ageing. Tony Abbott sacked the Panel of Positive Ageing not long after he was elected, has not appointed a Minister for Ageing and has no plans to address the challenges of an ageing population. Everald lives in Brisbane and was the President of National Seniors for many years, but s you may not know that he was born in Linville in the Somerset region. He was a entertaining and intelligent speaker — even sharing a story of how, in 1938, he had his tonsils removed at the Kilcoy Hospital with chloroform still used as anaesthetic. He asked us to think about our community and how we would like it to look in 2050. This simple advice is actually quite profound. Every decision we make in politics and as members of the community should be made with that thought at the forefront of our minds. Mark Twain said something similar when he said, “Plan for the future because that’s where you are going to spend the rest of your life.” Labor is working with the Panel of Positive Ageing to address the challenges and opportunities of an ageing population. I encourage you to think about your city, your community and envisage how you would like it to look in 2050. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts. Kind regards, Shayne Neumann, MP

Ross agrees with most industry pundits, that 2015 is going to be one of the biggest years on record for moviegoers. How about these to whet your appetite?: Mad Max: Fury Road, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Taken 3, Furious 7, Terminator: Genisys, Jurassic World, Fifty Shades of Grey, The Minions Movie, and Ted 2…the list goes on! Oh, and there’s one more teensy, weensy tiny movie to get your attention next Christmas by the name of Star Wars: The Force Awakens *squeal*. “It’s been a terrific first year, and we’re really proud of what we’ve been able to achieve so far,” Ross said. “Let’s be honest, people were being charged too much for movies in this town, and we made it more affordable. We also thought the whole experience of going to the movies in Ipswich was getting pretty tired, so we brought in some new concepts to freshen it up, amp it up, and inject some fun and interactivity where possible! “The result is that attendances in Ipswich have skyrocketed this year while the overall cinema market has been pretty flat. “We’ve always said we’re a team of movielovers, who just want more people seeing more movies. Well, that’s certainly starting to happen, but we’ve got heaps more movies of all shapes and sizes we want to share, and some new and exciting ways to watch them... so watch this space.” 2014 has been a bumper year, with special interactive screenings including The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Grease, and Frozen Sing-a-long, not to mention the 80’s movies collections which have been packing in audiences to classics like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Princess Bride and The Breakfast Club.

“If I had to pick some highlights in the last 12 months though, it would have to be either watching theatres full of people dressed up, singing and dancing along to our interactives; getting feedback from customers when our staff have done something extra to make their experience really special; or (selfishly) having a glass of wine and something to eat while I watched Gone Girl in The Lounge a few weeks ago.” *Only available to Limelight Rewards members. Limelight Rewards is free to join. Membership cards are available from the box office. Terms and conditions apply. Not valid for online bookings. ESCAPE What’s on your bucket list? Everybody’s list is different and some have longer lists than others but Christmas is a great time to think about ticking off one of those on your bucket list. People are running around frantically searching for the perfect present when a travel voucher could be the ultimate gift. Ever imagined being in New York for New Year, climbing the Great Wall of China, delighting the senses in the iconic German Christmas markets, exploring the natural and cultural splendours of Vietnam? Christmas time might be the perfect occasion to sit down and write your dream list and instead of some day, next year, start planning today and turn your dream into a reality. We would love to see you instore. It has been 12 months since our rebranding and our name changed to helloworld Riverlink Ipswich. As a locally owned and operated store, we thank you for your continued support. Here are some Travel Hints for Christmas… • It is not too late to book but suggest you decide quickly. • Buy a Travel Voucher. This gives the perfect gift, spoiling someone special but allowing them to plan, book in advance to make sure they get a seat on a plane, to the desired destination and with preferred choice in accommodation.

• Pack wisely — with presents as luggage don’t get hit with any surprises with extra luggage charges and don’t wrap them as chances are security may want to see them • Be happy and patient. Travelling at one of the busiest times calls for extra patience as everyone is trying to get to their destination too Best Wishes for the Festive Season and Robyn, Jacob and I look forward to seeing you instore. helloworld Riverlink Ipswich Riverlink Shopping Centre Phone: 3812 9888 Sharon Jones Managing Director, helloworld

The Listening Post With Ian Berry MP MEMBER FOR IPSWICH

Last week I had the opportunity to invite the Attorney General & Minister for Justice Jarrod Bleijie to the Ipswich electorate. I wanted the Attorney hear firsthand the issues our community is facing and explain to locals how our government is working hard to ensure Ipswich is one of the safest communities. I want to thank residents, community organisations and members of the Queensland Police who took the time to attend my recent Community Law & Order Forum. With over 50 local residents, community representatives, stakeholders and NGOs in attendance; the successful night was due to your eager participation. Held in Raceview, the robust community discussion allowed residents to engage one on one with the Attorney General and hear firsthand what measures the State Government has introduce to tackle law and order. With a strong consensus supporting tougher sentences, the forum also provided a great opportunity for locals to express their views on how law and order could be managed within our community. With representatives from the PCYC, Neighbourhood Watch and Queensland Police all providing valuable input; the forum served as the basis to identify the areas that matter most. Comments heard heavily reflected the feedback I have received through the course of door knocking the electorate; on the positive steps the State Government has taken, over the past two years. Whilst the progress is warmly received, there is a need to work harder and continue to deliver on reforms that keep our community safe. I remain determined in our State Government’s commitment to revitalise frontline services. For too long our community has had a legal system, not a justice system. By rebalancing the scales of justice by giving victims greater say, putting more boots on the beat, improving resources for our Police Officers, we are building a justice system worthy of our great state. The State Government has a strong plan to make Ipswich the safest place to live, work and raise a family and we are on track to achieving this. Ian Berry MP facebook.com/ianberrymp

Teah Mackay wins spot at National Science forum

Let them eat cake

A local Year 11 student has been chosen to represent Ipswich at a Science Forum where four hundred of the nation’s best young science students will travel to Canberra for a ‘Meeting of the Minds’. Teah Mackay, who attends Ipswich Girls Grammar School, splits her time between study and her flourishing swimming career. But Teah has her sights set on a =career, with her goal to move into the specialised field of sports nutrition. “Science has been one of my passions since I was little,” the 16 year old said. “It’s a two week forum in Canberra in January where we get to meet real life scientists, see what they are doing, look at their research, and join in what they are doing. “It will help me get to better understand what I want to do in my chosen field. “I’m sponsored by the North Ipswich Rotary Club, who are supporting me to go down there. From Brisbane to Toowoomba, fifty students went for it and I was lucky enough to get a spot.” Teah hadn’t heard of the event until her teacher raised the possibility of it one day in class. “My science teacher asked the class one day if anyone wanted to go for it as it was a great opportunity. So I went to the orientation day, or trials where the top 14 scores got to go through. “It was an intense day but it opened my eyes to science a lot more. A couple of days later I got a phone call saying I’d made it. “When I was there I spoke about things I’m passionate about, like global warming because I’m planning to go to the forum with more of a chemistry and biology feel. “I’m not entirely sure what I want to do for the rest of my life, but I’m hoping it will give me a focus on sports nutrition and diet…but who knows, it might open my eyes to a whole range of things? “A sports nutritionist career could last a lifetime, whereas as a professional swimmer, you only have a few years at the top,” Teah said.

Happy Birthday! “Happy Birthday to us, Happy Birthday to us…”

Wow, can you believe it has been 3 years since we expanded our family business from Boonah to Ipswich. Earlier this year we celebrated 20 years since Boonah Furniture Court and Beds R Us opened the doors and now it is our chance to celebrate our 3rd Birthday at Ipswich Furniture Court and Beds R Us. We have spent the year listening to our loyal customers and tweaking our range a little to meet their requirements. Our Beds R Us range has seen the injection of a second major Australian Made household brand — SLEEPMAKER. The Miracoil spring system has been a leader in the bedding world for many years and compliments our Orthopaedic Range from Sleepyhead very well. This combined with our award winning Swisstek Range — 7 Zone Pocket Spring Mattresses, means we have mix of products which will rival any other major bedding retailer in Brisbane. The Furniture Court buying group has also provided some great new ranges like the exclusive Farmhouse Pine Range as well as seeing the introduction of the new Leath-aire product which is a fabric which looks and feels like leather at a price everyone can afford. In an effort to make sure we remain competitive in the market place, our Furniture Court group has lead us on several overseas trips direct to the factories which has allowed us to not only check the quality of the product we are buying but also ensure we are

getting the product in to store and sold to our customers at the lowest possible price. The most exciting news of the year has come over the last few months, with the announcement that Ipswich Furniture Court will become the home of Ipswich’s very own exclusive La-Z-Boy In-store Gallery. This means that our customers will have access to the best products La-Z-Boy has to offer at the same prices that will be offered nationally. We currently have access to the full range of La-Z-Boy products which are starting to filter through on to the showroom floor and we are building towards our grand opening early in the New Year. We are celebrating our birthday month with a Massive Storewide Sale across all departments which means now is the time to start your Christmas Shopping. We have Sofas from $299, Aussie Made Double Sided Mattresses from $169, All our Premium King, Queen, and Double Mattresses at the price of a Single as well as up to 30% off our La-Z-Boy range including recliners from $599 and Lift Chairs from $999. We look forward to seeing you in-store and invite you to help us celebrate our 3rd Birthday at Ipswich Furniture Court and Beds R Us — 30 South Street Ipswich — Open 7 days.

A new doco titled ‘Soul Boys Of The Western World’ opened in cinemas in the UK recently and did huge business, making it the 2nd most popular movie in the UK that week. The documentary charts the bands success, followed by years of spats, in-fighting and lawsuits, until they all put that aside and reformed in 2009. The band, with the original lineup of Tony Hadley, Gary Kemp, Martin Kemp, Steve Norman and John Keelbe, was in Australia last week, doing a couple of Q&A sessions in Sydney and Melbourne where the doco was screened. But not to worry Queenslanders, as we will see them in May. They play the Brissy Entertainment Centre on Wednesday May 13th. Tickets are now on sale.

*Taylor Swift has been busy breaking her own records again. Her new album ‘1989’ has become the highest selling album in its week of release in the past 12 years. The record was held by Eminem’s ‘The Eminem Show’ in 2002 — but Swift’s ‘1989’ sold 1.28 million copies in it’s first week. ‘1989’ has become only the 19th album in history to sell more than 1million copies in its first week and Swift owns three of those positions with her albums ‘1989’, ‘Red’, and ‘Speak Now’. Taylor Swift also announced she’ll be back to tour Australia again in December 2015.

Beyonce earned $US115 million ($A124.43 million), Taylor Swift ranked second with $US64 million. They were followed by Pink ($52m), Rhianna($48m) and Katy Perry($40m). *In gaming news, remember those E.T. game cartridges that were uncovered in a New Mexico desert in April? Now they’re on eBay. It was a game that is still considered today the worst game of all time, and sold so badly that the makers buried all remaining stock in the desert… and so a gaming myth was born. Decades of video game speculation was brought to an end earlier this year when a crew unearthed a bunch of Atari 2600 cartridges in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Now, the city’s Tularosa Basin Historical Society decided to sell some online. E.T. could be yours for a few hundred dollars, but the seller notes that it might not actually work. (Doh!) We only live once Believe it or not, it has been 11 years since Shannon Noll and Guy Sebastian fought it out on the first series of Australian Idol! It takes hard work and talent to remain in the spotlight for that long, and Shannon Noll has managed to make a successful career in music after the launch pad that was ‘Idol’. While so many fail to turn all the attention into a career, Shannon is proof that it can be done, and is coming to Ipswich on November 28 as part of his latest national tour. “It’s crazy to think it was that long ago, but working hard plays a big part. The first year for me was really good, it was a new concept and I toured very hard for about four or five years,” Shannon said. “It’s really a combination of trying to put the best music you can out there, touring, and the hard work really begins when the show ends.” Shannon is putting the finishing touches to his new album ‘We Only Live Once’, and after years of playing live, now has more of a say in his shows. “Mate, I’ve learnt a lot from touring. I was so busy early on… one day you’re on stage, the next you’re doing photo shoots on the other side of the country. It was a very steep learning curve. It was hard to be away from the family so much, but I always think of people in the Defence Forces who are away for months on end. My situation was nowhere near as tough as theirs, so I just valued any time I got at home.”

Shannon chooses the set list himself and is bringing back some popular songs for this tour. “I wanted to do some songs I haven’t done for a while,” Shannon said. “Learning to Fly is in there which is going down really well. It’s only when you do these songs after a while that you realise how much you liked them. “ Shannon plays The Racehorse Hotel on November 28. Tickets from the venue or at www.ticketmaster.com.au

GIVEAWAYS Disobeying Hitler

German Resistance in the Last Year of WWII by Randall Hansen In the last months of the war, Hitler ordered the poisoning, blocking, and wrecking of all ports across Europe; the destruction of all industries, railroads, bridges, utilities supplies, archives and museums in Europe; and the destruction of the most beautiful city in the world: Paris. Thanks to the determination and bravery of a few, including those who paid with their lives, Hitler’s orders were often disobeyed. The result was a profound and lasting effect on the war and its aftermath. In this fascinating and gripping book, Randall Hansen explores the extraordinary phenomenon of disobedience and its consequences. Did the actions of one Prussian General save Paris from total devastation? Why were some German cities defended to the last man, while others surrendered without a fight? (Allen & Unwin)

Talking Beer WITH TIM AT THE PA HOTEL

Try Robot Ninja Lager If I were to say the words “Robot Ninja” I would be pretty confident in saying that ‘beer’ wouldn’t be the first thing that pops into your head, but my latest craft beer find is Robot Ninja Sorachi Lager. For those robot-enthusiasts who can also appreciate the finer points of a well-crafted shuriken, Robot Ninja Sorachi Lager is a light, yet full-flavoured rice lager inspired by the creative, colourful and sometimes crazy culture of Urban Tokyo. The taste however, is in a world of it›s own due to being delicately brewed and keg fermented with a precisely calculated blend of high quality malt and an exotic, Japanese Sorachi Ace hop. This all combines to create a fruity aroma and a surprisingly sweet finish that reminds me of toffee or even bubble gum. Very much like Tokyo Night life, it›s the kind of thing that has to be experienced to be believed, and the best place to experience this beer is at Char’d Steakhouse at the Prince Alfred Hotel, this being the latest addition to their expanding range of craft beers and ciders. Keep an eye out as this is only the beginning of their craft beer journey. The flavours are extraordinarily restrained,

especially considering it has Sorachi written on the bottle. It’s a lightly flavoured lager - dryness from the rice gives it a finish and the Sorachi adds a bit of a lemony/ butter note. The PA Hotel has a great range of craft and other beers to try. Fun times ahead people! Cheers, Tim

Fighter jets at RAAF Amberley protect G20 Super Hornets and ‘Classic’ Hornets joined forces at RAAF Amberley in the in the leadup to and during the G20 Leaders Summit last weekend. The jets flew airspace security missions over Brisbane, with the aim of protecting world leaders attending G20, and also the general public. With world attention on Brisbane, a high level of security in the air and on the ground was enforced, which remained in place until the safe departure of the leaders of governments from the 20 nations taking part.

In a150km area around Brisbane Airport the fighter jets maintained readiness to intercept any aircraft not complying with the exclusion rules, effectively maintaining a lock-down of airspace during critical periods. The G20 coincided with the absence of six F/A-18 Super Hornets along with air crews and ground crews, deployed to the Middle East to conduct air attacks against Islamic State forces. In the two weeks before the start of G20, the Super Hornets and ‘Classic’ Hornets conducted realistic training sorties, supported by E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning & Control aircraft and KC-30A air refuellers. Commander Air Task Group to G20, Wing Commander David Smith, said that a lot of practice and rehearsal was necessary to effectively integrate the F-18s, Wedgetails, airto-air refuelling aircraft and tactical air defence radar systems. Fighter aircraft mission profiles along with the intelligence information obtained from the E-7 Wedgetail and other sources were combined to create a common air picture.

This in turn, provided the task force and commanders with a full awareness of what was happening in the airspace. This was an important factor in making tactical decisions to counter potential and actual threats. In military terms, being able to enforce a high level of airspace control has a twofold purpose: to make that capability known to would-be intruders into the exclusion area, and to enable combat assets to react fast and furious to any threat to the security related to the G20. Air Commodore Tim Innes, Commander of the ADF support to G20, said that Air Task Group operations were truly a joint response effort, with all three Services taking part along with several government agencies. RAAF Amberley was home to an additional 600 people, assigned to the Air Task Group or an affiliated government agencies. AIRCDRE Innes said that while the air base was but one

“node” in the security response to G20 it was nevertheless a significant node. Clockwise from top: An F/A-18 Hornet pilot waits his turn to air refuel from a KC-30A air refueller during a practice sortie. Honda announces limited edition CBR1000 SP Honda Motorcycles has announced it is releasing a new 2015 special edition Repsol CBR1000RR SP.

Due to arrive in March 2015, the exciting new CBR1000RR SP will be available in strictly limited numbers, with only 60 of the bikes released to the public. With a nod to Marc Marquez’s second consecutive World Championship victory, the special release will feature an exclusive Repsol colour scheme. The 2014 model has been a dominant force on the world stage, as well as the local racing scene this year, with a spate of wins in the Australasian Superbike Championship. Team Honda Racing manager, Paul Free, said the 2014 spec bike has been a force to be reckoned with straight out of the crate. “Right from the get-go, the CBR1000RR has been simply flawless,” said Paul. “It really captured the right balance straight out of the crate and this has been reflected in the results it’s had on track this year. “We couldn’t have asked for a more complete package.” The CBR1000RR SP is designed to take road-legal to the limit, with an extraordinary balance of handling and power.

The 999.8cc inline, four-cylinder engine boasts an updated cylinder head, along with improved inlet/exhaust gas flow and combustion efficiency, and an extra peak power boost. The aluminium twin-spar frame is based around the standard CBR1000RR frame, with modifications to maximise the Öhlins front and rear suspension. The gull-wing swingarm operates through MotoGP-derived Unit Pro-Link rear suspension, with the fully adjustable, 43mm inverted fork and rear shock developed specifically for the CBR1000RR SP to offer outstanding all-round performance. Cutting an aggressive form on both the road and track, Honda’s highly anticipated Repsol CBR1000RR SP, will only be available for a limited time, so be quick to secure yours today for the MLP of $23,499. Plan: use a zero-interest period to pay off the card debt; this should include not using the card and regular deposits into the card account. If you use a cash-back card, have the cash paid into your credit card account. Cash advance: as a first rule on any credit card, avoid making cash draw-downs on it — this is a very expensive way to access cash and the fees capitalise into your credit card debt. Low interest: when the zero-interest period finishes on a card, it reverts to the full rate. So if you’re unlikely to commit to a plan that eradicates the debt, at least find a low-interest card. No Credit Card: the cheapest option of all. With a proper plan and a budget for your household income, you actually don’t need a credit card. Anyone can write a budget. If you must have a credit card, at least clear your card balance every month. This is good time to have a strategy for debt, and especially expensive debt such as credit cards. It’s likely that our interest rates will start rising in 2015 and you don’t want to be stranded with high card balances and high interest rates. So have a look at some of these credit card offers, and then make a plan. Genesis is Hyundai’s high-tech global flagship and easily the most advanced and luxurious car ever to wear a Hyundai badge. Importantly, for Australia the handsome and prestigious Genesis has been specified and locally tuned to match the world’s bigname prestige and luxury car brands for a fraction of their prices. In terms of cabin space and luxury, Genesis matches or exceeds the prestige and luxury car establishment against which it was benchmarked. Following technical development at Hyundai’s R&D Centre in Namyang, Korea, high-speed and durability testing of the DH Genesis was carried out at the famed

With all the recent changes to interest rates, one of the most common forms of debt — credit cards have largely stayed the same. Interest rates on mortgages started falling from October 2011. But during the same period credit card rates remained in the high teens. This has meant a change in consumer credit behaviour: the Reserve Bank says the growth in the number of credit card accounts fell to 0.6 per cent in the year to April 2014, the lowest growth on record. So credit card issuers are now competing, making it a good time for households to take control of credit card debt. One inducement is the ‘cash back’, where the lender either gives you $100 for taking their card, or they credit you with $10 for every $1000 spent on the card. The other way to catch our attention is the zero-interest period on a new card. Most of the big banks are currently offering zero-interest periods of more than a year on new cards and/ or balance transfers. On a credit card debt of $10,000 the difference between paying the standard interest rate and a zero rate, over a year, is around $1800. Australians have been using low mortgage rates to get ahead of their home loan repayment schedules, boost their equity and speed their ownership of a hard asset. Many Australians have seen this as an opportunity. There’s now an equally good opportunity to speed the repayment of expensive credit card debt. Here are a few tips: Fees: always check the annual fees on a credit card, and go for a low- or zero-fee option. Some fees are high enough to wipe out the value of cash-back or zero-interest.

Nordschleife part of the Nurburgring, in Germany, and at Yeongam Circuit, Korea. Extreme hot-weather testing was conducted in Death Valley, Colorado (USA), while extreme cold-weather testing was carried out on Sweden’s famed Argeplog Lake. Final durability testing was also carried out in Eastern and Central Australia. As well as 5* ANCAP rating, Genesis was awarded the highest ANCAP score ever achieved in local crash testing. Like its predecessor, this second-generation Genesis has also been awarded a 2014 Top Safety Pick+ Award, the highest honour given by America’s Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Genesis also earned a coveted ‘Good’ rating in the demanding IIHS small overlap crash test. The arrival of the important new Genesis here emphatically ushers in a new era in Australia’s prestige and luxury car landscape. New Fiat Ducato

Motoring News Bulletin

The latest evolution of the Fiat Ducato has arrived in Australia. The new generation of this hugely successful LCV, which has notched up 2.6 million global sales since it was launched in 1981, will set a new segment benchmark in Australia.

The new exterior style brings sophisticated ‘car design’ to the light commercial vehicle segment, conveying a strong sense of dynamism, quality, safety and robustness. The all-new front end features new Daytime Running Lights with optional LEDs and a bold new grille design, as well as a new three-part front bumper which helps to reduce repair costs. Inside, the new Fiat Ducato offers a comfortable, attractive and superbly functional cabin environment. New seats offer car-like comfort levels across the range, while technology upgrades, like the new five-inch colour touchscreen infotainment unit, offer new levels of useability.

With the new Ducato, Fiat Professional has worked to reduce emissions and improve economy. The heavy-duty, 3.0 MultiJet diesel generates 130kW@3500rpm and 400Nm@1400rpm, has CO2 emissions of

Toyota Camry gets an upgrade 203g/km, and sips as low as 7.2 litres per hundred kilometres. Further cost-saves are offered with the Ducato’s impressive 48,000km service intervals.
The new Ducato is available with gross vehicle weight configurations of between 3510kg and 4005kg and is available with three different wheelbases, four different lengths, two heights and maximum payloads. The new Ducato is available with a sixspeed manual transmission or six-speed Comfort-Matic transmission (standard on ‘Long’ and ‘Extra Long’ wheelbase versions). Further improvements to efficiency and running costs have been gained by working on kerb weight reduction and increased payload through, for example, the use of composite materials in the rear suspension.

Toyota has upgraded the audio systems and made a reversing camera as standard on its best-selling Camry range.

The running changes come at no extra cost for the four petrol and two petrol-electric hybrid Camry variants. Camry’s latest improvements arrive as the popular Toyota model is within weeks of achieving its 21st consecutive year as Australia’s best-selling mid-size car. Every Camry gains Toyota’s newest audio system that features a display screen that provides touch, drag and flick operations familiar to users of smartphones or tablets. Four of the six variants have a 6.1-inch screen that also displays the image from the reversing camera, which is now fitted to the most affordable Camry, Altise. Other Camry variants are already fitted with this safety and convenience feature. Top-of-the-line petrol Atara SL and hybrid HL have 7-inch screens with satellite navigation~ and the addition of Toyota Link* connected mobility. Toyota Link provides apps^ to help drivers find a destination, fuel, weather details and other information as well as roadside and other assistance. Users can connect compatible smartphones and operate the apps entirely using the touchscreen. The audio in these grades also includes voice recognition in addition to the Camry standard of Bluetooth phone connection and audio streaming.

Camry has been sold in Australia since 1983, has been built locally since 1987 and has been the best-selling car in its class since 1994 (FCAI data availability). So far this year, Toyota dealers have sold more than 15,700 Camry sedans, which represents a remarkable 42.6 per cent of its segment and places it 11,000 sales clear of its nearest competitor. Now in its seventh generation, Camry offers 2.5-litre petrol engines in petrol or petrolelectric hybrid configurations. Camry Altise delivers 133kW of power and 231Nm of torque while Atara variants gain twin exhausts that help lift output to 135kW and 235Nm. Fuel economy across the petrol range is just 7.8 litres/100km+. Stand-out performance and economy comes from the hybrid system, which has a combined output of 151kW with power varied between the petrol engine and electric motor, or combined as needed. Fuel use is just 5.2 litres/100km+. For information on this and all things Toyota, contact local dealer Llewellyn Toyota on 3282 2922.
