Architecture Portfolio

Hello,

my name is Irene and I’m an Architect from Spain

I am dedicated, hard working and committed to seeing things through to the best of my ability. I enjoy being part of a team and I am quick to learn. Architecture has provided me with the tools to research and question how and why we shape the space around us.

At school I found maths and drawing to be the subjects that motivated me the most, which led me to focus my college years on Technical Drawing. Following that I studied a 6 years Masters in Architecture, which has provided me with a competent skill set and has enhanced my ability to use my initiative and motivate myself.

My professional experience in both Spain and the UK, along with my Erasmus year, has been an enriching experience Learning the cultural and professional differences has made me open minded and resourceful This background has provided me with teamwork, communication and management skills, organisational abilities to achieve deadlines, and has given me the opportunity to build a great appreciation and understanding of different work environments and cultures.

During the past six years I have gained experience in multiple areas of architecture. Working hand in hand with both clients and developers has allowed me to understand the processes and challenges involved with architectural projects.

- I have been working at Studio HIVE for over 4 years as an ‘in-house’ architect in support of the developer group I have relished the development of Architecture by Studio HIVE into a full, chartered practice. This process has been an enriching and exciting experience.

I play a key role in early concept work as well as interior design and urban planning proposals. I undertake feasibility studies to explore optimal architectural outcomes for projects.

I’m confident in all the specific software which the studio employs. Being CPD manager has allowed me to train and improve my knowledge and confidence, but also to gain responsibility and experience in managing roles I’ve had the opportunity to undertake the roles of Project Architect and Project Interior Designer, managing a team to take projects through Planning or to prepare a Tender Pack.

Additionally, working in a small practice, I’ve had the chance to look closely and take part in tasks related to new bids, team workload reviews and marketing strategy.

WSM RFC Clubhouse

Detailed Design

Studio HIVE | From masterplan to detailed design

Rugby Clubhouse plus commercial Role: Project Architect RIBA Stages 0 to 4.

The new Rugby Clubhouse for Westonsuper-Mare is part of a wider development including residential buildings and a Health Centre. This presented challenges for both building and masterplan design

I have worked on this project since its very first stages, taking it through Planning and working on the Tender drawings and specifications, working with developers and consultants to achieve a coordinated design, as well as managing the production of CGIs

10-12 Cave Street was a georgian house used as offices. After the initial stages my team and I got Listed Building Consent and Planning Consent.

Following that, I managed a small team putting together the Tender Pack drawings, details, RDS, schedules and specifications for construction and interior design, having to communicate with developers and consultants to coordinate the design.

Interior Design

Studio HIVE | Interior Design for a new residential building Student accommodation project Role: Interior designer RIBA Stages 4 to 6.

I worked on the interior design and courtyard landscaping for the project, specifying finishes and fittings and regularly going to site during and after construction.

I also worked on the marketing strategy for the project delivery, making a brochure and managing the production of visuals with consultants, as well as doing most of the photography work for the common areas post completion.

The project comprised two buildings from 5 to 17 storeys - about 690 units. AHMM designed the buildings, which meant we worked closely with them and I had the opportunity to get an insight into a larger architecture practice.

I led the interior design proposal for all the inside spaces, specifying finishes and fittings, working

Refurbishment and extension of a private traditional house Residential project

Role: Architect RIBA Stages 0 to 2.

For this small extension went to several meetings with the clients and took measurements and photographic surveys on site to draw the plans.

My main involvement with this project consisted in producing a set of drawings for Planning, as well as working on materials and finishes sketches for the proposal, integrating the new contemporary design with the existing.

New housing development

Residential project

Role: Architect RIBA Stages 0 to 2.

This developmet is part of a larger mixed project including landscaping, the refurbishment of an old pub, a new office extension and a temporary building. The design had to be consistent, acting as a whole.

I worked on the several low energy house types from the beginning, sketching ideas with my team and turning them into a Revit model, making sure it was compliant and detailing the plans for Planning.

I also managed and contributed to the creation of visuals and presentations for Public consultations with the community.

Each space we design is focused on a Neuroarchitecture parameter, creating a circular itinerary that can work as individually spaces or as a whole.

We got involved directly with the community and reflected their culture and needs on our proposal, as well as the need for regeneration in the area.

Intervention (published in Defensive Architecture of the Mediterranean) to revitalise Santa Barbara Castle, highlighting the contrast between historic and contemporary while keeping in mind the heritage.

We did research on the current condition of the facilities and the SFS structure needed for the intervention.

The ceramic panels resemble the existing castle stone walls, however the light passes through and gives them a slightly lighter look.

Hand drawing Graphic Design

I rely on hand drawing especially for the initial sketches of a project.

It helps me think about the space I’m designing during the first stages and understand a building in a better way.

Live drawing of existing buildings has developed my attention to detail “You don’t see a building until you’ve drawn it.”

During the last few years I’ve used my drawing skills to develop guacamolett, a digital space where I share and sell my artwork.

Intervention to regenerate the Sao Domingos Fortress, a historical landmark located within a powerful natural scenery and steep cliffs.

Our proposal merges the contemporary and historic elements. It establishes a multilateral dialogue between façade and landscape, creating a series of meditation spaces.

The connection with nature is essential, blurring limits between indoor and outdoor atmospheres.
