SEA SHELTER

The proposal evolves from the pre-established. Seamlessly blending into the land and stabilising a design strategy that pays reverence to the ruin. By doing so, it merges the contemporary and historic elements, bringing back its essence and textures in the modern spaces. That way it establishes a multilateral dialogue between the façade and landscape, improving its character and assimilating the edifice into the vestiges of the monastery.

A sequence of reflection and meditation spaces is born from this idea, from the connection between nature and its simple guidelines. It’s a language in which only a few lines allow us to separate the functions, and at the same time produce paths that stimulate the course across spaces, with blurred limits and outdoor atmospheres. The arch invites the visitor to become part of the building while they walk across its roof and experience the contemplation of the sea from a place of serenity. Meanwhile, this space gives them access to a program based on a privacy gradient that varies depending on its depth and height. The deeper into the cliff they descend, the deeper into seclusion and shelter. The harmony and peacefulness dig deeply until they reach an immersive atmosphere at the Inner Space. This space is deliberately located for the visitor to be totally focused in their activities from dawn until dusk. Sea shelter reaches an equilibrium between the experience of disconnection and personal growth, finding a new way to realise the place.
