College graduates face uncertainty of job market Bianca Shrestha Editor-in-Chief

High school seniors who are getting ready to invest thousands of dollars in college education may be wondering what the future job market looks like. The current trend of job opportunities is an increase in health care professionals, business professionals, and engineering. In fact, according to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, companies are more interested in graduates who have majored in computer science, engineering, economics, business or accounting. A large part of why these occupations are growing is due to the rapid advancement of technology as well as mass globalization. Jobs that do not offer stable job prospects are usually the ones that could be done cheaper in other countries. This includes low- skill assembly line work like semiconductor processors or textile operators. Also, postal service workers are expected to decrease by 26 percent, making it the fastest shrinking profession in the U.S., according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). ,Q WKH FXUUHQW PDUNHW WKHUH DUH VSHFLÂż F MREV that are high in demand. 7KH PHGLFDO Âż HOG RU WKH ÂłUHFHVVLRQ SURRI´ Âż HOG KDV SURYHG WR EH VWDEOH DQG DFFRUGLQJ WR today’s trend, will continue to grow. According to U.S. News and World Report, entrepreneurs may have the biggest impact in 2020, as it is unpredictable what new ideas will be introduced. It is important to note that the industry and recruitment processes vary upon factors such as geographic location, size of organization of recruitment and the recruitment’s needs. LSU, for example, has large oil and gas recruitments and hires many from their Engineering and Business colleges. However, a social work graduate may not be recruited as easily due to the different industry. Jesse Downs, Associate Director of Talent Development of LSU Career Services, describes the importance of researching the process of recruitment and understanding the sources of
