Eye on Local News 05 Ricki Raises Money for Local Alzheimers Society

Hoyland Vikings Rugby League player Ricki Reckless braved baking conditions last month to complete a gruelling Triathlon to raise over £600 for BIADS (Barnsley Independent Alzheimer’s & Dementia Society). The triathlon consisted of a 1500 mtr swim (Manvers Lake), 40k bike ride (Dearne Valley Parkway/Adwick-upon-Dearne/Barnburgh 4 laps) followed by a 10k run (around Manvers Lake and golf club - 2 laps). Ricki completed the course in around 3 and a half hours.

Ricki (pictured right) said: “It was boiling hot. I enjoyed the swim and bike ride but the run was absolute murder, I really had to dig in and grit my teeth to get through it. I started training for it at the end of June.... in hindsight it should have been the end of January!!! My Grandad was recently put in a home with Alzheimer’s so raising 550 pounds for the Society was a real bonus. I’m going to continue training with Team Manvers but not sure if I’ll do another triathlon this year. Hopefully after this I will be the fittest man in amateur rugby league when Hoyland Viking’s season kicks off in September!!!”

If you would like to donate to BIADS phone: 01226 280057 or email biads@btconnect.com

Val retires after 52 years of service RIP Frank/Chris In the same year that NASA was created, and America launched its first satellite, Elvis was in the charts, and Val Rimmington first joined Barnsley Hospital. Val is retiring after working for 52 years at Barnsley Hospital after joining straight from Barnsley High School for Girls’ in 1958. She has had a number of roles over the years including student radiographer, technician, and is a qualified medical photographer. She has been the health and safety officer for Unison and did a secondment to help the Trust to shape its policies. When Agenda for Change was introduced, Val worked on behalf of the union, looking at job roles. Val’s latest role has been as the Knowledge and Skills Framework Officer (KSF) for the trust, working in the Learning and Development team. Val said, “I have grown up with the hospital in a way. I remember a time when we all had to call each other by our surnames, but I’ve met so many people and made lifelong friends. The hospital and staff have changed so much over the years, and I’m privileged to have been with this super hospital for so long,” she added.

The Eye was saddened last month to hear of the passing of comedy legend Frank Sidebottom (AKA Chris Sivey). It’s hard to believe that Frank Sidebottom is no more. He seemed too surreal, too childlike, too cartoon strip to be bothered with tedious, boring stuff like dying. But it’s true: Frank is no longer with us because his creator Chris Sievey died of complications caused by cancer on June 21st. I will always remember interviewing the pair of them after a gig many years ago for an online magazine and he had me in absolute stitches. One thing that I remember was that he loved my strong Barnsley accent.... coming from Frank with his nasal Manc drawl - it was a massive compliment! GM

The new hoist was unveiled by Barnsley Councillors Roy Miller and Graham Kyte this week and is just the latest in a series of recent investments made by leisure operator BPL. This is the fifth pool hoist to be installed in the past six months, following hoists at the Metrodome Leisure Complex, Hoyland Leisure Centre, Dearneside Leisure Centre and Wombwell Swimming Pool, culminating in an investment of over £20,000 from BMBC. The new hoist is designed for wheelchair users, as a seat can be attached, and a sling can be used for customers with spinal conditions, with the hoist having the capability to lift up to 22 stone in weight. Eddie Lim, BPL swimming development officer, said: “This is just part of our aim to put the customer first, by making our pools even more accessible to those with restricted mobility. ”

08 Eye on Local News Sorbys Launch New Estate Agency In Barnsley A brand new estate agency – Sorbys – is being launched in Barnsley to change the face of house sales and lettings in the area and help home owners lower the costs of moving. Sorbys is part of a new breed of estate agents that are choosing not to take a high street shop, in a bid to make savings they can pass onto clients. Launched by Grant Sorby, a Barnsley estate agent for 15 years, Sorbys is providing the same professional residential sales and lettings services as its more traditional rivals, but without an out-dated retail outlet. Grant, a former director of Barnsley-based Lancasters Property Services, said: “The internet has changed the way we buy and sell houses and according to research, 80-90% of buyers now find their perfect property online. The estate agency industry has to evolve and adapt to the current economic climate and the needs of its clients. This means becoming more streamlined and competitive by abolishing the unnecessary high street presence.” Sorbys will still use local media, property search engines such as Rightmove and other marketing tools to secure maximum exposure for its clients. It is also providing a guarantee that its valuers will be personally responsible for seeing a sale or letting through to the end. Grant added: “Our competitors’ in-branch staff very rarely see the properties they are selling or letting. We believe no one has more knowledge, or is in a better position to sell your home than the valuer, which is why we promise our clients that the person they meet initially will oversee the entire transaction.” To make buying, selling and renting a home more convenient, Sorbys will be available from 9am to 9pm every day. Valuations and viewings can also be made by email: info@sorbys.co.uk.

For further information about Sorbys residential sales and lettings services, telephone (01226) 799000 or visit www.sorbys.co.uk

Sun, Sea and....Savlon? Summer is officially upon us and many of you in new relationships, may be about to embark on that all-important milestone......the First Holiday As A Couple™ Your First Holiday As A Couple™ (we’ll call it your FHAAC) can throw up all manner of situations for us girls – some good, some bad and some very, very frightening (like discovering for the first time that your usually well-dressed beau is a closet Speedo wearer). If the Redknapps are to be believed you’ll spend your FHAAC taking long, moonlit strolls on the beach, wafting around exotic restaurants in a maxi-dress and sipping cocktails on deserted beaches, leaving a coconut scented cloud in your wake. Together you’ll release paper lanterns over the sea, you’ll scuba dive, you’ll dress in white linen and ride horses through the surf (I tried this - its very hard to look elegant and wistful on a horse hellbent on chucking you off). There won’t be a screaming child nor a visually offensive person in sight and the only other people you’ll encounter will be other loved-up Redknappalikes. Your wardrobe will consist of beige/white/khaki separates and the minute you step off the plane you will magically turn golden brown, develop sun-kissed highlights and of course, you’ll have the body of a supermodel. You will not burn, you will not get bitten and you will certainly not get any romance-ruining, bathroom-related illnesses.

Of course the reality is very different..... Rewind exactly one year to my last foreign holiday – I spent every day slathered from head to (very pale) toe in thick, greasy Factor 50 and I lived in beachwear. I could easily have doubled as a post-breakdown Britney - my hair went yellow, my skin went red and with the combination of mosquito bites/coldsores/blisters I’m surprised I wasn’t thrown in a leper colony. Dreams of languishing by the pool were quickly dashed by an over-enthusiastic Aqua-aerobics instructor called Jean Paul, who took great delight in forcing bikini-clad ladies to star-jump around his shallow end. Romantic strolls on the beach became drunken staggers back to the hotel and the exotic restaurants were, at times, a little TOO exotic – I almost shrieked in horror as virtually everything I ordered came complete with eyes/legs/tails/ all three. Luckily by now, my husband is used to seeing me looking less than glamorous (when someone is holding your hair back while you vomit like the exorcist girl after too many Coronas - sunburn and mozzy bites seem quite tame). But the pressure of living out the perfect holiday with your latest flame can put some of us into a blind panic. The truth is, if someone loves you enough to spend two weeks in a foreign country with you, the battle is almost won. Most blokes won’t be phased by catching you bleaching your moustache or hacking away at your bikini line with a Mach 5 (just don’t nick his cos it blunts the blades, so I’ve been told - ahem) and whether you’re Louise Redknapp or Louise frum Tarn, never underestimate the power of Lancome Juicy Tubes, a good mascara and a damn hot bikini! Warning - if you happen to chance upon an Aqua-aerobics instructor called Jean Paul, either shuffle down on your sun lounger and hide behind your Jackie Collins or prepare to strap ‘em down girls!

Robert Eaton, North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year and Creative Director of the Russell Eaton salon in Barnsley and Leeds gives his consultation advice:

Hot Summer Hair Tips! the conditioner has extra time to soak in and repair the hair.

With the hottest months of the year approaching we always tend to think of our skin and body’s but forget our ultimate fashion accessory, our hair! Having glorious, shiny hair is not only a matter of genetics—it is also a matter of good hair care. During the summer, the heat and rays from the sun can be very damaging, causing hair to become dry, brittle and frizzy. Applying some simple summer hair care tips will help keep hair strong and healthy. Heat, UVA and UVB rays are constantly bombarding hair that is not protected. Use a UV protection spray or cream to create a barrier from harmful rays. Very often you cannot prevent your hair from going lighter but you can prevent hair from being damaged, this can cause colour fading, not only when your away but for future colour applications. Try using Aveda Protective Hair Veil which is a light weight, non greasy, water resistant spray that forms an invisible screen to help protect your hair from UV exposure all day! (£17)

Another way to keep hair moist, particularly the ends which are most susceptible to dryness and damage, is to apply oils. Either use it as a treatment before shampooing or apply it to the ends during the day when they need a little extra softening.

Meet the Expert Artistic Director & Regional Educator for Paul Mitchell, Zena Claire.

This month we put Artistic Regional Educator For Paul Mitchell on the spot once more, We asked “Fringes?” find out Zena’s take….

Cut me…… A fringe “Fringes can be fun, flirty & fashionable there’s a fringe for you, for everyone!”

Summer hair styling is about the dishevelled look so if you normally use hot styling tools (hairdryers, straighteners etc.), try to go au natural and give your hair a rest during summer months.

On trend – heavy fringes are still bang on trend, your hair type will also affect what fringe suits you, so essentially a consultation before hand.

Allow hair to air dry whenever possible and wear simpler styles that do not require heat application to create, opt for easy chic styles, try braiding damp tresses which can create natural waves as the hair dries. Play with half up/half down styles or Boho side braids. All these have the added benefit of hiding frizziness. If the hair must be blown dry or styled with hot irons, applying a leave-in product that is designed to protect the hair will minimize the damage.

Smoothly does it- A smooth fringe gives a great contrast against tousled lengths. Killer looks- outgoing personality & cheek bones to match “why not try a Micro-fringe on an asymmetric.”

Robert Eaton, 2010

When it is time to turn on the air conditioning, it is also time to step up the hair conditioning. Regular conditioning treatments are important to keep hair moist. In addition to normal conditioning, occasional deep conditioning treatments can be very beneficial. Before bed, apply deep conditioner to damp hair and wrap in a shower cap or towel and leave in overnight so

We are suffering a bit of uncertainty at the moment with the economic climate as it stands and the temptation is to go for the cheap chop or D I Y, this is not the best way to go.

A lot of my guests are scared to go for a fringe, with the mindset it’s too young or the other end of the scale saying does it make me look like I m trying to look too young. “There is a fringe to suit every hair style and face shape- you need to choose an experienced hair designer to give you a complimentary one not only to suit this but your lifestyle and budget too!”

Fringe tips – Team a curved fringe with shattered layers for a rock chic look. If you have a high forehead, try a deep fringe to balance your features. An annoying “Cowlick” can be disguised with a deep fringe too. A strong fringe will frame your style but be prepared to put in some styling effort to keep it looking amazing- essentially a salon visit every 2/3 weeks. We offer Just Fringe@ £7.50 to beat the temptation of the Dreaded Kitchen scissors!! Don’t you deserve the best??

Lads are also thinking more and more about the styling of their hair, the most popular product has been and still is DI:F D;struct, a pliable is great because it can be used for both long and short styles. Personally I think it’s the products fruity fragrance that appeals, It smells a lot like a drumstick lolly, and at around £8 its good value too.

Product of the month American crew Fiber The daddy of all American crews products. I am relably informed that there is a pot of crew fiber sold every 10 seconds some were in the world. This product provides texture with added thickness and a matte finish. It works especially well on short choppy cuts. Only a small amount is needed so a pot goes a very long way. It can be applied to either dry or damp hair but personally I think it works better on dry hair.

For an appointment just telephone 01226 208555 or pop in and see us at The Thomas Whitworth Forum / Hanson St.

Reflexology by Maria Nortcliffe (MAR. MICHT) Are you suffering from the effects of stress? Do you have back pain, migraine, arthritis, digestive problems, hormonal imbalances or problems sleeping? Do you want to feel better? Reflexology can help with all these problems and more.

Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. The number of treatments needed depends entirely on the individual and your reasons for having Reflexology. You may just want a relaxation treatment so an occasional treatment is indicated. A course of weekly or fortnightly sessions may be needed if you have a long-standing condition, this helps to build up momentum and sustain results. Some people then like to have a course of monthly maintenance treatments.

So what is reflexology? Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the theory that there are points or reflexes, on the feet and hands which correspond to organs and systems within the whole body. When the reflexologist works on these reflex points using special pressure techniques, imbalances in the systems, organs and tissues of the body can be detected and the body’s natural equilibrium restored.

I am often asked does it hurt or does it tickle. Sometimes sensitivity or tenderness is felt in any area of imbalance but, once congestion has been cleared, most people find it is a pleasant sensation. You may also feel an increase or reduction in body temperature, feel relaxed and sleepy and some experience tingling sensations over areas of the body as the reflexes are worked. Most people find the treatment as a whole to be a pleasant experience and even people who say they have sensitive feet are surprised to find that it doesn’t tickle.

With ever increasing levels of stress, it is important that we take more responsibility for our own healthcare needs. Reflexology helps us cope on a physical, mental and emotional level thereby enabling our body to heal and encourages maintenance of health in all areas of our lives.

Reflexology is a very safe treatment. It is suitable for people of all ages and beneficial for all kinds of conditions. While there are few reasons not to treat, it is wise to proceed cautiously in some cases. This would be discussed with you prior to any treatment being given, along with aftercare advice.

Is reflexology for you? Why not give it a try and find out. Maria Nortcliffe MAR. MICHT

Reflexology is becoming increasingly well known. Reflexology is not really the invention of one particular culture, there is evidence that it was practised by the Incas, Egyptians, North American Indians and the Chinese from ancient times. The treatment as we know it today has developed from the work of Eunice Ingham, an American physiotherapist. She took the work of Dr William Fitzgerald and Dr Joe Shelby+Riley in the area of Zone Therapy and using her own methods of applying pressure, mapped out the chart of reflexes which is now used worldwide. So what happens when you go for a reflexology treatment? The reflexologist will first of all ask you to complete a detailed consultation during which you will be asked about any illnesses, injuries or health concerns you might have. You will also discuss your diet and exercise regime and general lifestyle. Following this the reflexologist will make you comfortable with your feet raised and begin the treatment by looking at your feet. Yes, the state of your feet gives clues to your general state of health. The treatment begins with gentle manipulation techniques designed to relax and get you used to having your feet touched. As the treatment progresses the therapist moves across the feet using fingers and thumbs to apply pressure over the reflex areas. Some areas may be tender and you should tell the reflexologist. Sometimes the therapist may ask you if there is any tenderness as they work over the area. Areas of tenderness or sensitivity indicate to the reflexologist that there is a blockage of energy in the area of the body corresponding to the reflex being worked or along the zone. Many people ask if the reflexologist can tell them what is wrong with them. It is important to note that a reflexologist is not usually a doctor and therefore is not qualified to diagnose illness.

16 Eye on Local Business MINX NAILS Dressing up for Summer

by Claire Bryan at Sparkle & Gloss

When considering what to wear you must ask yourself ‘What am I going to feel good in?’ Aside from getting the right fabric, cut, pattern and so on, it’s about wearing what you feel is really YOU and your personality. The City Chic - Michelle Obama Always immaculate and coordinated with fabulous accessories.

The Romantic – Nicole Kidman You relish any opportunity to dress up in a feminine way and love tactile fabrics. You don’t care what the occasion is, you adore looking pretty and adding lovely details in accessories, frills or sparkle. You will love this season’s fabrics, colour and pattern including lace overlay, silks, chiffon, pinks, pastels, dainty florals and whimsical prints.

You know how to put things together beautifully and pick your accessories carefully to set off your style. You will find some elegant wedges this season or the new lower heel in neutral shades that are sure to go with any of your existing collection of handbags.

The Dramatic - Madonna Follows cutting edge fashion, loves statement pieces and getting noticed.

The Natural – Julia Roberts Prefers simple, easy to wear outfits; will generally choose comfort over style but can still look fabulous in her earthy way. It’s easy for Naturals to opt for flat shoes but for dressing up make sure they are pretty ones. A decorated pump will make all the difference. A simple blazer in this season’s white or pale cream shades are perfectly understated for you. The Classic – Hilary Clinton Your look is timeless, elegant and formal. You don’t like fussy clothes. You will have some simple, elegant pieces in your wardrobe that you love to bring out time and again, but take care not to be too dull. Go for a shift dress in an interesting fabric such as satin and choose a colour you look great in to push your boundaries a little.

What exactly are they? Minx is a solid film with an adhesive back that is activated by heat. The heat gives Minx the conformability to fit over the curve of a nail, heat-seals the film onto the nail bed. The patent-pending, proprietary material that Minx is made of can easily be removed with heat or simply with acetone. Off in the bath? Minx is bang on trend at the moment with celebrities like Beyonce, Lady GaGa and Fergie wearing them to many celebrity functions. Can I go into a bath and also swim wearing Minx? Absolutely! You can enjoy long soaks in the bath, swimming or even lounging in hot tubs, when applied correctly, Minx has a waterproof seal that will prevent the minx from lifting. How long will Minx last? This depends on several factors; the most important being proper application. From my users, it appears the normal range is from one to two weeks on fingernails and toenails between 4 –6 weeks although I have had clients were they have lasted up to 8weeks, Minx does not chip, it can wear slightly depending on how they are treated. What range of designs are there? Here at Sparkle & Gloss we stock a large selection of minx from metallic to skulls and the designs can be viewed by following the Minx link at www.sparkleandgloss.co.uk

Dressing for an occasion lets you show off the fabulous pieces you have bought for the new season. You can add a hint of drama to a conservative outfit with on-trend shoes, a unique hat or statement jewellery to give it the ‘you’ factor. The Creative – Lady Gaga You love experimenting and combining different styles for your own unique look. Your perfect party wear will be something vintage combined with something modern or mixing up patterns. This summer’s graphic, tribal and floral prints will give you lots to work with but don’t overdo the clash.

England Suit (Still) Flies off the Shelves Even though Englands performances were nothing short of appalling at last months World Cup we will say one thing - at least they looked good! Official tailor since 2007, Marks & Spencer created the official FA suit though collaboration between Savile Row tailor Timothy Everest MBE and M&S. The suit has still been flying off the shelves (even though we hate to say it England were rubbish). This is probably because of the fact that David Beckham (who didn’t play and is style icon to millions) was seen sporting the suit at every England game while over in South Africa....and in all honestly he looked pretty cool. The M&S official FA replica suit sported by Becks is available in two fittings; regular for a classic shape and slim fit for a sharper more streamlined fit and is available from M&S stores nationwide and online. The jacket is priced £120, trousers £79 and waistcoat £35.

26 Eye on Property PREPARE YOUR HOUSE TO SELL, SELL, SELL! This month, we ask Sarah Walker - property expert, former presenter of BBC1’s To Buy or Not To Buy and PR and Marketing associate for needtosellquick.co.uk for her top property selling tips.

Confessions of an Estate Agent…. AN OVERVIEW OF THE MARKET

Preparing your house to sell needn’t cost a lot of money. Sellers do sometimes invest money in updating bathrooms and fixtures and fittings. But if you don’t have the resources to do so, follow these budget-friendly tips: 1. Before selling: Be realistic about the price. Get at least three valuations and don’t necessarily go for the highest one. 2. De-clutter and give each room a purpose. For instance, if a potential buyer can’t see a space to eat, they’ll assume there isn’t one. If your property is one of those that has a ‘junk room’, now is the time to give it a new identity, whether it is a spare room, kid’s bedroom or home office.

Since opening late last year, May was our best month in terms of house sales, new instructions to the market and potential purchasers registering their interest.

3. Finish pending DIY jobs such as putting up shelves, replacing broken lampshades, skirting boards and tidy up the garden. It has been said before, but clean until every surface is dust free and gleaming.

June has been slightly quieter with the emergency budget and the World Cup (the less said about England the better!) having an impact, but we continue to see an improvement overall.

4. Review your space and look at the colour of your rooms. Everything doesn’t have to be magnolia, but a good rule of thumb is if you can name it after a fruit (lemon, lime, raspberry, orange) then it needs to be toned down! 5. Ensure that potential buyers have a place to park when they come to view your property - even if it means you have to park elsewhere for the viewing! 6. Don’t completely ‘de-personalise’ your property. Contrary to what people might think, de-cluttering doesn’t mean removing everything individual you own! Let buyers see that you have some paintings, photographs and children’s drawings in your home. You want to sell a ‘home’. 7. Open-up dark spaces. Walk around your home with an objective view and pick out the darkest areas. Buying a simple mirror and replacing the light bulb with a brighter one can liven up corridors and hallways. 8. Branded grooming products on display can make a difference to places like bathrooms. Pack away any everyday toiletries in the cabinet and display a few selective candles, lotions and potions from A-list brands. You’re then selling a lifestyle and not just a house. Try these tips to prepare your property for sale.

Although offers of asking price are still rare, we are now seeing vendors accepting higher offers and first time buyers return to the market as mortgage deals begin to improve. Moreover, we are finding first time buyers who have been saving for a number of years providing that all important mortgage deposit. Investors are also keen to continue investment in property, with current interest rates being low and demand for quality rented accommodation so high. New home builders are once again starting work on large sites, which up until recently have been laid almost dormant. All this news is positive and with the recent confirmation the online clothing retailer, ASOS intending to move to Barnsley, in turn creating hundreds of private sector jobs around the area, we believe the housing market in Barnsley will continue to improve. Anyone wishing for further advice on the current housing market, either buying or selling can contact Butcher Residential on 01226 288920. Last Chance To Buy at Woodrove Place, Woolley Edge There are only a handful of properties remaining at Taylor Wimpey’s Woolley Edge development, Woodrove Place. The development has proven to be extremely popular among homeseekers who want more luxury and space for their money. Using the housebuilder’s Shared Equity scheme, homes start at just £144,496 for a perfectly proportioned three bedroom Ingleton 09 townhouse, of which there are only two remaining. If you’re looking for a home with an extra fourth bedroom then there are also two remaining Theakston townhouses at Woodrove Place which have the added bonus of two parking spaces and a single garage and start from £152,996. Both these housetypes are available using the Shared Equity scheme where homebuyers will own 100% of their home but pay only 85% of the purchase price and with only a 5% deposit needed. With Shared Equity, the buyer pays a 5% deposit and then secures a mortgage on 80% of the property price, leaving Taylor Wimpey to step in and provide a rent and interest-free loan on the remaining 15% of the purchase price for up to ten years. Anne Bagshaw regional sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey explained; “The homes at Woodrove Place are designed and built to a very high specification and the development is in a great location. This has been a really popular development and I expect the

last few properties to go quickly, especially the showhomes which we have just released for sale.” The Ellerby and Strand showhomes at the development are now available to buy with all fixtures, fittings and furnishings – perfect for anyone who wants to move into a tastefully designed home without the stress of having to decorate it themselves. Both are available for the price of £189,995 and are spread over three storeys with an integral garage on the ground floor. Woodrove Place is a popular development of well designed, spacious, homes in a tranquil setting. It is convenient for schools and local amenities such as a health centre and leisure facilities. Situated just two miles away from the affluent village of Woolley and close to the villages of Darton and Mapplewell, Woodrove Place enjoys an enviable setting surrounded by open countryside and stunning views. This is complemented by its easy access to the M1 and Wakefield, Barnsley, Leeds, Sheffield and beyond. There is also an excellent local train service from nearby Darton. For more information about the remaining homes available at the development call 0845 026 5504. Alternatively call into the sales information centre off Woolley Edge Lane, which is open Thursdays to Mondays from 11.00am – 5.00pm. Album Reviews By Matt Jones of Dearne FM

Jack Johnson – To The Sea The soft-rock star from Hawaii (above) isn’t only laid-back in his musical style, but also very relaxed about his level in the pop scheme of things; but then it makes sense that he would be, after nearly losing his life in a surfing accident when he was a teenager that left Jack Johnson needing around 100 stitches in his head. He’s said of his music, ‘Let Radiohead innovate’, showing he prefers the comfort of playing laid-back guitar tunes that were never designed to change the world. back to sleep. The 12 tracks on this album are each impossible dislike, brimming with Johnson sunshine – straight from a Hawaiian beach.

Crowded House - Intriguer Their sixth album since Neil Finn formed the band 25 years ago, and their second since reforming, following the suicide of fellow founder member Paul Hester in 2005. You can sense a double identity as you listen: there are songs with ambition, with strange undercurrents and scuffed melodies; and then there are songs that plod along, as comfortable as an old pair of slippers. The trouble with the album’s more conventionally crafted pop songs is that they invariably sound a touch dull. Not that that will trouble fans who have been around since Don’t Dream It’s Over: to them, the gently shuffling Twice if You’re Lucky will be perfection itself.

Scissor Sisters – Night Work Somewhat of a homage to the last days of disco in the 80’s, Night Work is one big party straight out of the greedy, heady days of excess. Could it be that capturing this era of music is really what Scissor Sisters have been trying to do for a long time? - the band are more focused on their third album. It is most definitely their finest piece of work to date - accomplishing everything that the band set out to do from the beginning. Although there are less radio-friendly hits on this album, what’s most notable here is the mood that this album sets throughout. It takes you back in time to a place where you didn’t have to worry about anyone but yourself and your quest for finding a place inside yourself where you are comfortable living in your own skin.
