Barnsley Town Hall Sees Red I noticed that Barnsley town hall was swathed in red lights just after Halloween - it looked really creepy with the red clock faces from a distance and my young son said that the two clocks looked like monsters eyes. Was this done especially for Halloween? Whatever it was it certainly caused a spooky stir in our house. You can see the Town Hall from where we live but it makes a nice change to see it lit up in red. Angela, Monk Bretton via email Purplon looked into this and it’s all part of The Go On Barnsley – campaign throughout November to encourage more people to get online. It has been organised by Barnsley Council. Coun Tim Cheetham said: “Too many people in Barnsley are missing out, either because they don’t know what they’re missing, or because they find the idea of computers and the internet all a bit scary. Go On Barnsley is the chance for people to try it out, with help.”
Remember Mo-vember During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men. If you are getting involved this year why not send us your snaps to the email address below and we’ll print the best (and worst). Here’s a selection below of the ones we had sent in from last year:

06 Eye on Local News Chamber Hands Charities £10,000 at Charity Ball Representatives of South Yorkshire Charities Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and Lost Chord have collected cheques totaling over £10,000 from monies raised at Barnsley & Rotherham Chamber of Commerce.
The two organisations were nominated as chosen charities by the Chamber’s President Chris MacCormac, and received their cheques in front of over 400 guests at the Magna Centre during the Barnsley & Rotherham Business Awards evening. The funds were donated by guests at the ‘Magic of the Musicals’ ball, sponsored by Tata Steel, which also took place at Magna in May. Sarah Champion, Chief Executive of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “We were so grateful that the Chamber decided to adopt Bluebell Wood as their chosen charity.” Helena Muller, Chief Executive of Lost Chord, said: “We are all enormously grateful to have been chosen as a nominated charity by the Chamber.” Mick Hood, HR Director of Tata Steel’s Speciality Steels business, said: “We are proud to have been associated with such a memorable evening. Our reason for sponsoring the event was to help secure support for the selected charities, so to have raised £10,000 in total is staggering.”
South Yorkshire Enters an Exciting New Digital Era! Last month saw an exciting change for South Yorkshire with the region now leading the way digitally with the fastest internet services in the country, as internet provider littlebigone.com launches across the county. South Yorkshire is now one of the country’s most advanced regions for digital networks with littlebigone.com’s next generation super-fast broadband available to households across the area and IPTV and phone lines packages will also be added later in the year. A special sign up offer for littlebigone.com’s services is available via the website, providing a discount on monthly broadband fees for the first 18 months. The package includes next generation superfast fibre-optic broadband with unlimited downloads and speeds of up to 40 Mbps with free Wi-fi router, and free 24/7 UK-based customer support. Hallam FM presenters Michelle Mary Mustard and James Sloan and children and young adults from across the region took part in the Digital Olympics - a range of Wii and IPad games, at the Frenchgate Shopping Centre in Doncaster on 29th October to mark the launch of littlebigone.com being available in South Yorkshire. Hundreds competed in a range of digital challenges, from tiny tots to silver surfers and kids also got involved in a ‘mouse hunt’ around the centre to win a range of prizes. The littlebigone.com team learnt from visitors that many South Yorkshire residents rely on the internet for job hunting, many for managing their finances, as well as more social uses such as keeping in touch with friends via social networks and online shopping. Littlebigone.com is working with Digital Region (owned by Yorkshire Forward, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and Sheffield City Council) to provide a new superfast broadband service within The South Yorkshire region. The Digital Region network is the first major regional deployment of superfast broadband in the UK. For more information on littlebigone.com’s services please see www.littlebigone.com. Below are a selection of Photographs from the days event. More photos from the event can be found at facebook.com/littlebigonecom

Motorpoint is sponsoring Sharnelle (19), as she travels to London to compete in the pageant which saw over 2,000 girls apply for the chance to represent England. Sharnelle has made it to the final 50 ladies who will be vying for the coveted Miss England title on 20th October, which will see the winner travelling to the Bahamas in December to represent their country as well as claim a prestigious modelling contract as a prize. The sponsorship will help fund Sharnelle in her dream to become Miss England. Sharnelle said: “I love doing pageants as they make you more confident, are good fun and give you plenty of opportunities by opening doors. I want to win the American Dream Pageant because representing England has always been a dream and I would feel very proud to win and be one step closer to trying for the world title.” David Shelton, Managing Director, Motorpoint, said: “At Motorpoint, we are used to having the best of British on our stock lists, so it made perfect sense for us to help Sharnelle in her quest to be crowned Miss England! Around 95% of our models are UK cars and having been established and contributed to the motor industry in Britain since 1998, we are more than happy to support another home grown talent. www.dil-raj.co.uk “I Know I Can” Barnsley’s Big Challenge for 2011-12 There is a buzz being created in Barnsley as young people across the borough are being encouraged to explore and experience setting up their own business. After a successful pilot earlier this year involving five local schools and local entrepreneurs the “I Know I Can Barnsley Big Challenge 2011/12” is being launched on 18th November 2011 at Barnsley’s Digital Media Centre during Global Entrepreneur Week. The initiative is being lead and supported by employers on the Barnsley Work and Skills Board. The IKIC Barnsley Big Challenge competition is a borough wide initiative that encourages young people aged from 11 to 19 to set up their own business, with a possible initial £25 loan from a local entrepreneur as well as their ongoing support to help develop the business idea, make money and compete with other businesses for top honours. Andy Chesterton, MD of Barnsley based Praxsoft Ltd, Work and Skills Board Member and IKIC Big Challenge Champion explains: “Through the IKIC Barnsley Big Challenge we hope to Inspire and enthuse our young people to get excited about setting up their own business, with the potential of it being a career choice in the future. Helping Barnsley to develop a pool of enterprising young people and next generation entrepreneurs”. The aim is to enthuse more existing local entrepreneurs and business people to want to inspire and support young people to ‘set up’ their own business and make money, and to help grow a spirit amongst local wealth creators of ‘been there, done it, now want to share it’ and ultimately develop a network of like minded entrepreneurs who want to support the growth of entrepreneurial spirit in Barnsley. The organisers are looking for local businesses and entrepreneurs willing to share their experiences and invest in the next generation of Richard Bransons, Mary Portas and Peter Jones. Those who get involved will be asked to invest £25 and a few hours of their time in supporting a team of budding entrepreneurs. To take part contact Liz Yoxall at the Entrepreneur Exchange via thebig@be-sy.co.uk.

Eye on Health & Fitness 09 Cancer Support
OVER TRAINING Written for The Eye by BPL Fitness Instructor Mark Elliott
The arms are probably one of the most popular areas that men like to work out. Face it, all men want bigger arms. When I say bigger I don’t mean big as in body building but just nice toned and muscular arms. The result is seeing a lot of younger guys in the gym lifting lots of heavy weights every day until they can’t lift anymore and their arms are maxed out. Have you also noticed that they are the ones who will not add any size to their arms? They train hard to build their arms but actually don’t increase their size.
Barnsley Council and Macmillan Cancer Support have teamed up to provide financial help to people diagnosed with cancer and their carers.
This is because they are over training. Sounds silly but it’s true. The building and toning of muscle is not physically done on the gym floor. Yes that is where you put the work in but the actual physical effects take place during recovery.
Last year, the four advisors helped people in Barnsley claim and extra £3,000,000 in social security benefits and grants.
Giving your body chance to recover and grow is a major part of any exercise. Even if you are more interested in building your base cardio you need to have periods of rest. By exerting yourself to the point of exhaustion every day is not beneficial it is actually detrimental to your training and health.
As well as visiting people in their own homes or in the GP practice, the advisors also go into the community aboard the NHS ‘Healthwise’ Mobile Cancer Information Service. Their aim is to help people undergoing financial problems as a result of their treatment for cancer. Help and advice is provided on benefits entitlement while off work sick and undergoing treatment, longer term disability benefits, carers benefits, housing benefit etc. Once the advisor has identified the appropriate benefits they will help people to claim them and check to make sure that the claims have gone through smoothly.
The example I used at the start is a very niche one but it is the best example. We have all seen huge guys lifting heavy weights and looking pumped. What you don’t see is one hour later when the ‘pump’ deflates. Ok they don’t just lose all their muscle but the initial effect of the work out is lost and they actually do not add any size or weight to their arms at all. You do need to push yourself to increase fitness or muscle but you also need to understand the power of recovery.
The advisors are also able to access financial help from Macmillan Cancer Support and other charities in the form of grants to cover things that the social security system cannot help with. For example access help with the cost of travelling to hospital, hospital car parking; extra heating costs; new clothing due to weight loss; special diets and even short breaks and holidays where possible. This is a free service and anyone who lives in the Barnsley and who has been diagnosed with cancer can contact the service on (01226) 772360 or (01226) 772310. If you see the bus in your neigbourhood why not pop in and say hello.
Your body recovers with rest and if you give it that rest, you will increase muscle, fitness, and endurance whatever it is you are looking to do. If you give your body time to recover, along with the right fuel, you will see the benefits of the hard work. Push too far and you will only feel as if you are running yourself into the ground. So I suppose this is actually about not doing exercise rather than how to do it; but that doesn’t mean it isn’t just as important. Until Next Month - Train Hard, Mark

Walking your way to fitness by Maria Nortcliffe According to Dr William Bird who pioneered Health Walks in the UK, you need to walk for 4hours over the week, that means just 40 minutes a day. If you can manage that you can burn 1,600 calories. Walking is really good for you. By controlling weight it can help reduce the risk of diabetes. It can help to prevent heart disease and stroke, lower blood pressure and reduces stress. Fresh air improves mood and can help with depression. Walking can also help to strengthen bones Most of the work is done by the muscles of the lower body, and it’s a weight-bearing activity, so it can help improve bone density. At the same time, it’s low impact, so it won’t strain your joints. You should try to walk at a reasonable pace that will stretch you, make you feel slightly warm, begin to raise your heart rate and breathe faster but not too fast so that you cannot hold a normal conversation. Although you can walk regularly in your local area it is nice to walk somewhere different, somewhere green and pleasant where you can appreciate the scenery. Walking in a green area is a natural mood enhancer. Swedish scientist Terry Hartig compared walking in the countryside with walking in a town and found that a nature walk is more effective for lowering blood pressure. People walk for many different reasons. Finding a good reason to walk regularly can inspire your fitness regime. Admiring the countryside is one very good reason but it is more fun if you can find a group to go with. The ramblers association springs to mind but bear in mind that their walks can take up most of the day. There are other special interest groups in and around Barnsley. Barnsley Sports and Activities forum is based at Shaw Lane and has details of many local groups find them on www.bsaf.org.uk/wa_groups. Some people need more of an incentive to exercise and committing to helping others by raising money can bring real rewards. There are many worthy causes to help locally but if you enjoy making a difference you could end up walking along the Great Wall of China or the Inca Trail in Peru.
What would you say if I told you I had discovered a way to keep fit right on your doorstep? Exercise that is fat burning, fun and absolutely free? Not only does it give your body a workout but it can also lift your mood. It’s actually something you will be doing to some extent but few people acknowledge that this is part of their exercise routine.
Walking with a group is a great way to meet new people, make new friends and improve your social life. All you need is a pair of comfortable shoes or trainers and the will to commit to regular exercise. You will soon find your mood lifted, your energy boosted and your lifestyle improved. Try it you might really enjoy the experience. Maria Nortcliffe MAR. MICHT Cert ECBS
I often discuss exercise with my clients and most will say they go to the gym, some will mention football but not many will say they walk. In fact when people say they don’t exercise they are often surprised when I ask if they walk the dog or walk the children to school. Yet walking is the simplest exercise to do regularly. You literally have to step outside. You do not need specialised equipment. You could also say it is eco friendly because you do not necessarily need to drive to a special place(ie the gym) in order to carry out this exercise. You can simply work out a route from your front door. If you can commit to walking for 40 minutes a day for six days a week you could also lose weight! The trick is to begin in a way that will end up encouraging you to continue. Start with a 10 minute walk and see how you feel. The next day walk for 15 minutes and keep building up the time until you reach 40 minutes.

This month the Barnsley Eye asked Isobel Eaton at Russell Eaton the
Eye on Hair11
question; “Can your hair make you look younger?”
10 ways to look younger in an instant
1. The ultimate revamp move has to be colour. Don’t be scared in taking the plunge. Make sure that you have a thorough colour consultation with your colourist and express your needs and your lifestyle. This will help to establish what sort of colour is right for you. 2. Go for a cut that is stylish and modern and don’t let age dictate your hair style. As you get older the more edgy the haircut, the younger you appear so be bold and stay away from safe and conservative as this is ageing. 3. As we age so does the texture of our hair. It can become course and brittle or fine and curly. Ask your stylist to counteract this by using different cutting and texturizing techniques so you gain more control over your hair. 4. If grey hair tends to go yellow due to smoke and pollution then use a deep cleansing shampoo to remove this build up and inject your hair with moisture and shine. Try Bain Clarifant by Kerastase, L’Oreal. Often people overlook investing in a good quality shampoo but it really does make all the difference. 5. Long hair can really drag the face down on older ladies and it is very aging and difficult to keep in good condition. Instead hair should be left mid-length or shorter to encourage movement and volume. 6. Another tip is to keep updating your hairstyle. If you’ve had the same hairstyle for the past ten years then only the stylist is to blame. Your hairstylist should always be one step ahead, thinking about how to evolve your hair cut. 7. Shiny glossy locks always ooze youthfulness so ensure that your hair is in the best condition it can be by using a leave in conditioning treatment twice a week. Try Age Recharge by Kerastase, L’Oreal. It not only strengthens your hair but leaves it feeling soft and shiny.
Here at Karl Smith Men’s Grooming Centre we are always trying to provide our clients with the most up to date men’s hair styles, but with this you need the most up to date men’s hair products, so you can recreate your style every time. Karl Smith Men’s Grooming are proud to present the latest men’s styling product to hit the market, STRUCTURE made by popular product manufacturer Joico. This range has something for everyone and every styling need, from matte paste to glossy waxes. Here are just a few in the range: • Foundation spray- hair prep and primer that detangles and preps your hair for styling, so you need less styling product. • Paste- flexible adhesive which defines and creates texture with a firm but flexible hold, this has a completely matte finish. • Glue- extreme crème delivers the fiercest hold for your style • Sculpt- styling clay that creates pliable texture and definition with soft shine. • Define- light weight shine wax delivers flexible separation and light hold with maximum shine. • Adapt- texture paste adds pliable definition and a matte finish. • Finish- instant hold hairspray holds and controls your style all day. This new men’s hair product has also got a really cool packaging which was designed by popular clothing line All Saints, and with all the products priced around £10 it’s a bargain too. Gift packs will also be available for Christmas, see next months column for more details. KS
8. A great and easy adaptable way to update your hairstyle is to add a fringe. Their great for hiding lines on the forehead and also accentuate the eyes. Fringes can be cut to look dramatic or sexy so are very versatile and fashionable. 9. Fine hair tends to get finer with age so try to use shampoos and conditioners that are volumising and styling products that are designed to add more movement and volume. Try Bain Volumactive shampoo and conditioner by Kerastase. And Volumeactive Mousse also by Kerastase. 10. Wearing the hair too flat to the face can be really ageing so make sure you have plenty of movement and lift in the hair to soften the face and add a young fresh appeal.

MENTAL EMOTIONAL The Treatments The Three main treatments in Chinese Medicine are: Chinese Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture, and Chinese Massage. Chinese Medicine treats both acute and chronic conditions. Some are better treated with acupuncture (such as sciatica pain), others with herbal medicines like skin conditions. But generally speaking, a combination and proper use of both herbs and acupunture works significantly better than the use of the two treatments alone. Over the past few decades, there has been a great surge of interest worldwide in Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture which being free of side effects, will bring additional benefit to people in the west. Traditional acupuncture is a healing art has been used for thousands of years to create and maintain health. By understanding and treating the cause of any condition, rather than just the symptoms, acupuncture can give long lasting relief and profound feeling of health and vitality. Essentially Acupuncture is worth considering if you are in pain, have a diagnosed medical condition, are suffering with emotional problems, such as stress or depression, or just feel that your mind and body is not working as well as it could, it is better to prevent problems arising than to wait until they are critical or serious conditions such as heart Disease or poor circulation. Each patient is treated individually and holistically. Dr Her will look at your unique situation before making a diagnosis and developing your own treatment programme. The beauty of this approach is that, as well as your symptoms clearing up you will start to feel better in a number of other ways as the treatment enables you to achieve a great balance, physically, mentally and emotionally. You can come to ask for more information, Dr Her will give you a FREE introductory consultation.

Beauty Salon & Spa in Barnsley As you can imagine once Karen told me this facial had instant results I immediately though fantastic! Followed by a slight scepticism as I have had facials before stating instant results and been disappointed, however Karen is that confident in this product that she dispelled all my reservations. The facial itself was so relaxing and all the creams and washes used felt so light on the skin. It was amazing throughout the treatment itself everything being done is explained to you. I had never found any skincare product given any instant result but this did as soon as I saw the results I was absolutely amazed!
Nevella Boutique Spa has only been open a matter of months but what a place. Owned by Karen Neville and situated just behind Tony’s Barber Shop on Racecommon Road with access from York Street, off Pitt Street this place is amazing, small but beautifully laid out with two well proportioned treatment rooms. Nevella Spa strives to use natural, organic, ethically-sourced products where possible. But above all else products that work.
Their service is all about YOU. Everyone is welcome and their ethos is that each experience should be as you want it to be. The Spa has a wide range of treatments to choose from using the best product ranges possible. This is one of Karen’s passions that everything she uses is of the highest quality, but most importantly that you see results and that the products work! Karen guaranteed us that if we took one of the treatments we would see instant results so the Barnsley Eye took the challenge and here’s what happened. On entering the Spa you are greeted with the warmest of welcomes by Karen and her team as my appointment was 10.30am I was given breakfast before my treatment of fruit and Greek Yogurt while Karen explained all about the treatments and products available with Nevella. Once we had gone through the range of facials, on looking at my skin Karen was able to access what she thought was the best treatment for my skin type. It was decided that we would have the Pevonia Lumafirm Lift & Go (right). This facial is known for its redefining radiance and facial contouring, this exclusively formulated treatment features the latest in freeze-dried technology to deliver instant results and cumulative skin care benefits.
Lines were firmer and the glow that it gives to you skin is fantastic. I could tell the firmness it gave to my face the next morning too when I was washing. I used the cream each day after the treatment and my skin just kept getting better and better even my husband commented on the radiance of my skin and i am sure all you women out there will agree if a man notices it has to be a miracle! Karen at Nevella Boutique Spa has convinced me that these treatments do work but don’t just take my word for it pop into the spa and experience this for yourself, you will be amazed with the results as I was. Other treatments available are Eye treatments, Hands & Feet, Massage Therapies, Tanning, Body Treatments, Spa Teen, waxing, face rejuvenation and lots lots more. Nevella offer a range of holistic teas, fresh coffee, light breakfasts and lunches.

Christmas Cracker! Let us all put the beautiful back into Barnsley this festive season - look good and feel stylish! The suits all style
Sparkle and shine
A tuxedo suit or mix and match trouser/jacket combo is a statement of style for any occasion. The only decision is which cut of jacket and trouser? For curvy ladies with rounded shoulders or a fuller bust, try shawl collars, waterfall and one button jackets left open. If you have a straighter shoulder line or upper body, go for angular lapels. If your colouring is deep, keep to the midnight blues and blacks, if you have lighter or blonde colouring; try tuxedo jackets in white, cream or gold.
We all love a party dress, but key rules for dressing with success: curvy ladies with fuller busts and hips, use fabulous accessories such as necklaces, jackets, shrugs and bags, keep your sparkle and embellishment away from the fullest areas. Pear shapes, use the sparkle on your top half to balance out curvy hips. Slim hips? Try a sequined skirt or brightly coloured trousers.

For tuxedo trousers, keep with your body line, straight hips and great legs suit the tapered styles in crisp fabrics. Curvy hips need a stretchy fabric and a boot leg. Up the style with a metallic t shirt in gold or sequins, swap for a silk or satin shirt depending on the occasion.

THE BARNSLEY EYE RESTAURANT AWARDS Here in Barnsley we have some fantastic restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets. The Barnsley Eye have teamed up with local businesman Paul Hoyle of RTR (Road to Recovery) to launch this award. The prize for the overall winner will be a prestegious engraved plaque plus two months free advertising in The Barnsley Eye Magazine. You may remember Paul as “Party Paul” from channel 4’s Come Dine With Me. Paul will be reveiwing restaurants around Barnsley and scoring them on specific criterior.
The aim of these awards is to raise awareness of just how many excellent restaurants Barnsley has to offer.
Boccelli’s Italian Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlour, Cundy Cross. Bochellis Italian Restaurant is situated within the building which used to be The Mill of the Black Monks on Grange Lane at Cundy Cross. When the building was a public house it was the oldest building to be used as a pub in England. Looking really attractive from the outside, as we entered we were treated to a fantastic welcome by Deano (right) and his very attentive staff.
NOVEMBER
WINNER
My wife (who accompanied me on our visit) is well into her old things (well she married me for a start) and after we’d settled down to a drink we were treated to a tour of the place. We learned that the building, was once a water mill belonging to the Cluniac monks of nearby Monk Bretton Priory, which dates from around 1150. We were really amazed by the history of the place and trust me, the place could double up as a museum it’s steeped in that much history. That’s not to say it isn’t a great place to eat. Quite the contrary...Bocellis has style charm and to say it has a relaxing atmosphere is an understatement. We felt at home the minute we walked in.
So onto the food. The food is Italian as it should be - a straight forward menu with great mains and outrageous Italian Ices Creams for dessert which look like they are sure to become a signature at Bochellis. If you are like me, once you been to a great place, you will go back again and again and Bochelli’s is a place I will be visiting regularly. It is certainly going to be put on the Barnsley map in regard to Italian food. I would recommend it to anyone and I’ll give it an deserved 10 out of 10!!! If you call yourself don’t forget to tell Deano and the staff that Party Paul sent ya!!

Road to Recovery UK Ltd based in Great Houghton in Barnsley beat off some strong competition including Kostal UK Ltd and LifeSkills Solutions Ltd to scoop the top prize at Barnsley & Rotherham’s Business Awards last month – The Business of the Year 2011.
Paul Hoyle (pictured above on the right) said of the company’s achievement; “We took a big risk when we launched Road To Recovery. Our competitors thought we were crazy and that nobody could make pay-as-you-go breakdown cover work - but we had a vision and we made it work. It is fantastic to get this kind of recognition”
The judges of the award, which was sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland, were unanimous in their opinion that RTR truly met all the criteria demanded including demonstrating outstanding financial
As well as the overall Business of the Year award, RTR was also highly commended in the two other categories the company was shortlisted in – the Business Growth award and the Entrepreneur of the Year award.
performance and business growth through embracing new technologies and innovative management strategies.
The Barnsley & Rotherham Business Awards lived up to its billing as one of the region’s top events - celebrating business success in style. If you were a winner, enjoyed the night as a guest or simply would like to see pictures from the night you can browse through the photo galleries on
RTR’s unique Pay as you go breakdown service was recognised for both its innovative nature and for MD Paul Hoyle’s boldness in setting out to compete with the huge brand names that dominate the breakdown cover market.

TIM
GOW Who Will Win the Advertising War? And Why it Matters to Your Website!
Have your ever wondered why Google and FaceBook are Free? Its simple, the more of us that use their services and stare at their pages, the more advertising they can put under our noses, the more money they can earn. Google’s revenue was over $29 billion last year whereas FaceBook was a mere $1.8 billion, but we spend a far greater face time looking at the social media giant than we do “Googling” the search engine pages. Most of us use Google Search to find things, services and information, whether it be for business or light hearted interest, we access it and leave it. On the flip side, we spend literally hours on FaceBook, chatting and sharing with our friends, looking through photos, videos and we leave our computers and iPads logged in and we pick up our conversations inbetween chores and commercial breaks. So why the big difference in revenues? Well we use Google as a search tool whereas FaceBook is social and we are only interested in what we like, so are we going to be drawn into business adverts during our social time? Not Really! Not unless the advert really tempts us with something so very relevant to our own intersests! Rumours abound that FaceBook will start charging for its services, but that is extremely unlikely and would drive many people away from using it to other free services, including Google’s own social media offering Google Circles. So why should a business be using social media? For engagement with its audience and to improve its search engine rankings. The search engines are taking note of what people are saying about you, via reviews, like buttons, shares, bookmarks and traffic through social media indicates a buzz about your business which Google cannot ignore. The Google search page needs to deliver the most relevant and credible answer to your query but it also needs to be on the ball and interesting if it wants to keep our attention on its own pages.
COLUMN Money can help give children a head start in the difficult financial world they are growing up in and saving for our children is increasingly necessary. The cost of education presents a real challenge as many universities plan to charge £9,000 for tuition from 2012. The National Union of Students estimates that graduates will have debts of £41,000. The average deposit on a house for a first-time buyer is over £30,000 and the buyer’s average age is 37 (source: Council of Mortgage Lenders, February 2011). Without a helping hand, your children’s hopes and dreams may remain just that. From 1 November the Junior Individual Savings Account (JISA) is open for business; a tax-efficient savings vehicle to provide the opportunity to build a capital sum for your children. The JISA will be available to all UK-resident children who do not have a Child Trust Fund, a similar childfocused savings initiative which was withdrawn this year. The rules and regulations governing JISAs are based on those for a standard ISA and it should be noted that the favourable tax treatment of JISAs may not be maintained and is subject to changes in legislation. Stocks and shares and cash JISAs will be available and children will be able to hold one of each account at a time. They can be with different providers but it is not possible to have more than one provider for each account. The annual contribution limit across both accounts will be £3,600 which will be increased in line with inflation from April 2013. The accounts will be owned by the child but the funds will be locked in until the child is 18 when the JISAs will roll over into standard ISAs. Children aged 16 and 17 have the opportunity to invest in both a JISA and a standard cash ISA in the same tax year making it possible to shelter a total of £8,940 in the current tax year – £3,600 in a JISA and £5,340 in a standard cash ISA. JISAs must be set up by a parent or guardian but the rules allow contributions from anyone. Grandparents often lead the way in saving for children but other relatives and friends can make a donation towards this allowance. JISAs, have tax advantages but they are not the only solution for saving for children. For larger sums trusts provide greater flexibility whilst still offering the potential to make tax savings. However you want to invest you need to choose a simple solution that gives you every chance of success in providing that vital helping hand to your children in the future.

Boxing Thrives at MJ's Boxing Academy, Wombwell Barnsley has a long tradition of producing fine boxers in the past from Shaun Doyle through to Chris Saunders. Here in present day however - things seem to be going well down at M.Js Boxing Academy in Wombwell.
Photogrpahs by Paul Hilton of Visual Impact Photography 07971 309999
There are a variety of different boxers in the gym from young amateurs like Dempsey Wale and Brad Botham trying to make an impression, to established professionals on the crest of something big.
One boxer who has made a cracking start to his professional career is Matthew “Buster” Mallin, (Above & Below). Currently unbeaten as a professional Buster had a fine amateur career winning a National Novice Title. Judging by his progress in the professional ranks his team expect Buster to be contesting for some type of title by the Summer of 2012.
Ross Blackwell (pictured right with his cornerman and father) is the baby of the professional team at 19. Ross had 30 bouts as an amateur and since turning professional he has boxes 4 times. Gwyn “Iron” Wale has won National Tiltles as a amateur and boxed for England on numerous occasions. As a professional Gwyn has boxed 11 times and has recently qualified as a trainer so he can pass his knowledge on to the younger lads.

Get a Grip on Winter Driving with Skoda Last year the cold snap caught thousands of motorists by surprise, and with forecasters predicting yet another severe winter for the UK, it’s important to be prepared. To ensure drivers don’t get caught out as the winter draws in, participating ŠKODA Retailers are offering customers a set of winter tyres from just £248.00 – helping them to drive safely whatever the weather.Temperature is crucial to the performance of tyres, and below 7ºC, the softer compound and tread design of winter tyres gives significantly better grip and braking performance than regular tyres. Despite the common misconception that winter tyres are only for use in snow and ice, drivers can benefit from using winter tyres in all conditions, wet or dry. Last year alone saw almost five months of the year when winter tyres would have been the safer choice for UK motorists.
The key benefits of winter tyres are: Shorter breaking distances – The braking distance of a winter tyre in cold conditions is up to 10% shorter than a regular tyre, around two vehicle lengths. Resistance to aquaplaning – The winter tyre tread pattern is designed to displace water and slush from under the tyre, reducing aquaplaning. Increased grip – Winter tyres have a softer compound with a high natural rubber content to increase grip in cold conditions. ŠKODA Retailers are also offering customers a complete Winter Check to ensure their car is ready for the forthcoming season. The Winter Check is on offer to ŠKODA customers for just £19.99 and includes a full vehicle health check with specific focus on the key vehicle systems that are critical for safe winter driving.

ŠKODA recommends the following seven important checks to prepare your car for winter: 1. Lights – Are they aligned correctly? Perfectly aligned lights enable drivers to have the best possible visibility, critically important during winter’s dark days and nights. 2. Wiper blades – Severe weather puts increased demands on wiper blades, so it’s crucial to make sure they’re in good condition before winter begins. 3. Windscreen washer fluid – check it is topped up with the correct antifreeze screen wash fluid. 4. Brakes – Fast, responsive brakes are essential in winter, so the pads, discs and brake fluid are checked allowing drivers to brake more effectively. 5. Tyres – The condition of the tyres is checked, plus customers will be given additional advice about choosing winter tyres. 6. Battery – Winter puts extra strain on batteries, so technicians will check they’re in good working order before cold weather hits. 7. Air-con – By ensuring the air-con is in good shape, drivers need not worry about a winter of condensation. At any ŠKODA dealership nationwide, services are undertaken by skilled technicians who have the knowledge and expertise to service vehicles using genuine approved ŠKODA parts which carry a two year unlimited mileage warranty. All ŠKODA dealerships comply with the Motor Industry Code of Practise and strive to offer fantastic customer service at competitive rates.
