Jesus Christ.... A New Age Hippy?

My 7 year old daughter asked me the other night before bedtime: “If Jesus came down to earth today Mummy-what do you think he would do?”. I must admit it was a pretty complicated question one which I tried to explain by saying that he’d probably be a really nice fellow - healing the sick and bringing peace and love to everyone. She looked at me and asked “Would he be a hippy?” Trying not to laugh but completely understanding why she would think that I said “Erm - he probably would”. She then went on to say “I bet he would look cool though wouldn’t he - he wouldn’t wear robes now wouldnt he?” To be honest it fair made me think - Nothing is more innocent and amazing than the mind of a child!!!!! Kelly - via email J.C. 2010 Stylee

If you have any ideas on what J.C. would look like or do in this day and age - send them into us here at the Eye. Inpired by Kelly’s daughters question we reckon he’d live in Italy and have a private jet so he could get all over the world wherever his presence was needed. He’d hold regular meetings with all the world leaders and fellow Christians could contact him by email on his laptop for special one to one advice... Oh and his facebook page would have tens of billions of friends - even more than lady GaGa’s!

The Battle of Wakefield As part of the celebrations to mark the 550th anniversary of the Battle of Wakefield, Sandal Castle is hosting a free fun day of medieval activities on Sunday 19 September. The event will be taking place between 10am and 4pm and will feature a theatrical performance based on the Battle, as well as spectacular falconry displays, a medieval encampment and interactive medieval games. Sandal Castle stands in a commanding position overlooking the River Calder, Pugneys Country Park, the city of Wakefield, and the M1. The castle is best known for the famous Battle of Wakefield which was fought nearby in 1460 during the Wars of the Roses. Richard, Duke of York was killed in the battle. During the English Civil War in the 1640s Sandal Castle was besieged twice by Parliamentary forces. Afterwards, it was stripped of its defences. Remains of the 13th century stone castle and the fine motte and bailey can be seen on site. Visitors can climb to the top of the motte where they are treated to superb views of the Calder Valley. The castle has been extensively excavated and finds can be seen in the Visitor Centre and at nearby Wakefield Museum, located on Wood Street, Wakefield.

To find out more visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/castles or ring 01977 722740. You can also find out more about the Battle of Wakefield through an exhibition at Wakefield Museum, from 16 October to 29 January. Admission is free.

Tom to Ride at Europe’s Largest Bull Riding Event

Imagine jumping on a two-thousand pound Bull and hanging on for dear life....this is something Tom Wigglesworth of Flockton regularly does.... for fun! Bull Riding has been a rodeo sport since the 1800s, when cowboys from different ranches in North America began competing against each other in ranch tasks. It is an incredibly dangerous, exciting and physically challenging sport. The name of the game is simple: riders stay on an irate, 2,000-pound bull for eight seconds or until the bull sends them flying. This month sees Tom ride at Europes largest Bull Riding Festival taking on riders from all over the world - we caught up with him to ask him some questions on his unusual sport. Tom (centre) with 2 fellow Bull Riders at a Rodeo in Verona, Italy in June.

So, Tom - How did you get into Rodeo and Bull Riding? I’d been a keen viewer of Rodeo for a number of years. I got the chance to ride my first 2 small bulls while in Australia in 2001. I then attended a week long training school in Kansas USA. Here I rode many bulls over the week, and learnt all the basic skills and practices involved with the sport of Bull Riding. On returning from the USA I entered the only British Rodeo to feature Bull Riding in September 2009. I successfully rode both of my bulls over the weekend to win the event.

How popular is the Sport in the England? Bull Riding is pretty much non existant in England so I am competing on the European Bull Riders circuit. This requires me to travel to rodeos in Italy and France over various weekends this summer.

Whats up next then? This month (August) I will be taking part in Europes largest rodeo and country music festival - Equiblues - which takes place in St Agreve in the South of France over 4 days with rodeo competitors from all over the world taking part. The Bull Riding event alone will feature up to 100 riders, coming from USA, Canada, Brazil, France, Italy and Germany. With me being the only Bull rider representing the UK. What are your future plans within the sport? If I have a successful season competing in Europe, my aim is to travel to one of the more established rodeo countries next year (USA, Australia, Canada) to try my luck against more advanced competitors and bulls. We’ll look forward to hearing about that...cheers Tom! Tom is sponsored by Hooves Western Saddlery in Birkenshaw West Yorkshire. Suppliers of the best western saddles and equipment in the uk. www.westernsaddles.uk.com Anyone interested in learning about Bullriding and Rodeo, or for information on how to get involved. Wakefield Wildcats Family Day – A Major Success!

‘Britain’s got Talent Finalists Stavros Flatley (far left and far right) and tribute group Airedale Flatleys (second left and second right) in action with some Irish dancers

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have declared last month’s family Fun Day an outstanding success. More than 2,500 people packed into Belle Vue Stadium to meet the Wildcat players and staff as well as be entertained by ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Finalists Stavros Flatley. The Wildcat players came face-to-face with the club’s fans, literally, as they manned the face-painting stand while they also cooked up something special for the Wildcat faithful as they were the chefs on the Bar-b-que. Fans were able to take in a host of family entertainment features that had been set up on the pitch at Belle Vue Stadium as well as interact with stands from various socially responsible and community organisations.

Above: Wakefield Trinity Wildcat stars (left to right) Matt Blaymire, Michael Korkidas and Sean Gleeson cook up a storm on the bar b que at Wakefield Trinity’s Family Fun Day last mobth.

The Fun Day was run in partnership with West Yorkshire Police, Wakefield Council and the Wakefield Independent Supporters Club Association. James Elston, Wakefield Trinity Wildcats’ Chief Executive, said: “It was a great day out for the whole Trinity Wildcats family. Stavros Flatley were great value for the fans and to see them combine with the Airedale Flatleys was simply fantastic. All our players have said how much they enjoyed the experience because it gave them an opportunity to meet and chat with the fans.“ “We’re delighted with the number of people that actually turned up on the day and it’s a real testimony to the Wildcat fans that so many of them came because there were more in Belle Vue for the Family Fun Day on Saturday than at some professional games staged over the same weekend. The Wildcat fans have once again proved that they have the interest of the club at heart and that’s so encouraging as the club moves forward into the future.”

08 Eye on Local News Motorpoint takes Naming Rights for Sheffield Arena Motorpoint has taken the naming rights for the Sheffield Arena for the next five years. The car supermarket giant has broken with tradition once again by making a seven-figure investment in the city to rename the internationally-renowned venue the ‘Motorpoint Arena’ from August onwards. The 13,000 capacity Arena, which opened in 1991, has played host to most of the world’s biggest touring acts including Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Cirque du Soleil and U2 as well as major events such as the International Show Jumping and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards. Over 15m fans have passed through the Arena as the building approaches its own milestone of 20 years in show business. The Arena is operated by Sheffield International Venues (SIV) and managed by Live Nation, the largest live music company in the world. The naming rights agreement will not only see a total re-branding of the building but also includes the Motorpoint logo appearing on all concert tickets, concert advertising, show leaflets and posters together with a new name for the venues website – www.motorpointarena.co.uk – which receives over 200,000 visits a month. The deal represents a significant change of direction for Motorpoint, which is better known for its sponsorship of British Superbikes, Cycling and Rugby Union teams in recent years. However, as Gary Warren, Managing Director of Motorpoint, explains: “The Arena is renowned as one of the country’s foremost entertainment venues. Taking the naming rights will provide us with a huge opportunity to promote the Motorpoint brand to a completely new customer base over the next few years.

September’s Poem

The Unknown Soldier by Bryan Davies Weep lost spirit as you mourn in the snow And cold winds blow Through the frail fragments of your faded uniform! Frozen teardrops sparkle in the gloomy mist As they slowly twist Down your cheeks to be lost on the floor! No longer to share an embrace Feel a tender touch on your face From those who had meant so much.

As your life blood spilled Freely away on foreign soil! A mother’s joy, a father’s pride lay on the floor beside you And nothing they can do Will ever put flesh back on your bones. You were taken without warning by chance A victim of cruel circumstance And now the elements dance around your tomb. No lessons are learned. Life goes on the same As the same bloody game Is played out daily on fresh battlefields!

How slow the world turns How deep the pain burns For all that was taken from your life. Too few witnessed your frantic screams The bloody streams Of Death’s raking fingers laying claim! Too few acknowledge the futility, the waste The bitter taste In the slaughter of the innocents! Childhood dreams left unfulfilled

Wedding Day Beauty

by Claire Bryan at Sparkle & Gloss Lots of brides tell me they want to look polished but natural on their wedding day. The easiest way to look achieve this without piling loads of make up on your face is to have professionally shaped brows. Having well-groomed brows is a great way to add glamour without adding a lot of extra makeup. Make sure that the salon uses tweezers, not wax before your wedding day, as this can tear the sensitive skin around your area, I would recommend starting to visit the salon about 4 to 6 months prior to your wedding day so that the brow shape can be achieved. Skin care is also very important and if your gonna carry off the Au Naturelle look you need to be preparing your skin with regular facials and a good home skincare routine. On the big day it is wise to have your make up trial a few months before the wedding so that you can achieve your desired look, most brides go for an elegant but natural look which can be difficult to acheive yourself, a proffesional make up artist can achieve this without making your make up look thick and loaded whilst leaving your skin glowing and blemish free. At Sparkle and Gloss a full range of wedding packages can be taylored to suit your individual needs. If you fancy a tan on your wedding day try a Sienna X natural tan, with ashade to suit all skin types I would reccomend that this is profesionally applied for your big day. (below).

A Model Mother This month the Brazilian ‘supermodel’ Gisele Bundchen managed to anger almost every mother from Barnsley to Beijing. She is obviously unaware of the universal fact that people who are considered extremely privileged, should be VERY careful about dishing out (unwanted) advice to others. IIt seems that whatever you thought you knew about motherhood, you might as well forget it. Motherhood didn’t even EXIST until the divine Gisele gave birth. Upon reading her recent, inane ramblings on pregnancy, labour and breastfeeding, clearly it’s a wonder how the human race has survived this long without her experience and wisdom. (FYI – for those who aren’t sure of the difference between a ‘supermodel’ and a regular model, allow me to quote Jo Brand – it’s like comparing Super Tampax to Regular, they’re twice as expensive and a lot thicker). So what are these pearls of wisdom Gisele has so kindly bestowed upon us? Prepare to be amazed… Rule No.1 According to Gisele, it should be made a ‘worldwide law’ to breastfeed your baby for AT LEAST 6 months after the birth. ‘Are you really going to give chemical food to your child when they are so little?’ she chastises. Never mind if work/medical/personal reasons make breastfeeding nigh on impossible – DO IT! You obviously don’t give a monkey’s about what you feed your child otherwise. Rule No.2 Do not, under ANY circumstances put on weight. ‘I think a lot of people get pregnant and decide they can turn into garbage disposals. I was mindful about what I ate, and I gained only 30 pounds. I didn’t even have to buy maternity clothes’ - easy done when a typical meal consists of three carrot sticks and a boiled prawn. Rule No.3 Exercise. ‘I did kung fu up until two weeks before Benjamin was born, and yoga three days a week. It prepared me mentally and physically. It’s called ‘labour’ not ‘holiday’ for a reason, and I knew that. You want to go into the most intense physical experience of your life unprepared? That doesn’t make any sense to me’, she quips. Still she goes on… ‘Then I was ready and I thought OK, let’s get to work’. I wasn’t expecting someone else to get the baby out of me’. Notice how she simply marvels at other expectant women who give birth ‘unprepared’. Rule No.4 Do not even THINK about admitting the birth was painful – and, like Gisele, under NO circumstances must you accept pain relief. If it is remotely uncomfortable in any way, it’s because you’re weak, mardy and your baby is too big as a result of you stuffing your face with donuts for the last 9 months - and her thoughts on labour? ‘It didn’t hurt in the slightest’. Of course not. Rule No.5 Choose a ‘meaningful’ name for the messiah your baby. ‘I wanted him to be called River because I wanted something always flowing, immortal. My husband said, ‘There’s no way we’re going to call him River.’ But my father’s name is Reinoldo, so ‘Benjamin Rein’ is homage to him. And it’s like water.’ Quite. Who needs the Dalai Lama with Gisele around? Gisele Bundchen has confirmed what most of us have thought about the majority of models all along. That they should be seen, not heard. They are paid millions for having the sheer good luck to be born beautiful (which is entirely a matter of opinion). They are not paid to think, they are not paid to speak and they definitely haven’t earned the right to advise the rest of us how we should live our lives. Of course, we can only assume that everything she’s telling us is true. Oh, how I’d like to see what really went on during her ‘natural’ and ‘painless’ birth… One thing is for sure, I’d have asked them to use any stitches they saved from the labour to fasten up her big gob!

Can reflexology help Cancer Sufferers? According to the Department of Health, one in four people will receive a diagnosis of cancer at some time in their life. Most people know someone who has had cancer or may have had it themselves. It is a shock for anyone to be diagnosed with cancer, it usually fills people with dread and fear. In spite of all the treatments available and those currently being developed, it can be a frightening journey.

So what is cancer?

People who have reflexology are going to be helped with relaxation, releasing some of the tension and helping them to breathe more easily. This in turn helps with muscular aches and pains. It can also help to relieve some of the side effects such as sleeping problems. It is also a pleasant contrast to some of the more conventional treatments. It helps to induce a feeling of well-being. Psychologically it might help the person to deal with stress and tension. During the treatment they have the undivided attention of the therapist so they can talk if they wish. They might feel empowered to change aspects of their lifestyle to feel that they are helping themselves.

For the most part we all associate cancer with the discovery of a ‘lump’ in some part of the body. All cells in the body are constantly renewing themselves. This usually takes place in an orderly manner. Sometimes the process gets out of hand and cells over produce and develop into a lump or tumour. Tumours can be benign or malignant. Benign tumours tend not to spread to other parts of the body whereas malignant ones tend to multiply and invade surrounding tissue. Cancer is not just one disease. There are over 200 kinds of cancer each with it’s own treatment.

A treatment should be enjoyable and soothing, calming and relaxing.

Treatments vary. It may be an operation to remove the tumour. Chemotherapy involves administering drugs to destroy cancer cells. Radiotherapy uses x-rays designed to target the cancer cells and is carefully targeted to minimise damage to healthy cells. Hormonal therapies work by changing the levels of hormones in the body as some tumours rely on hormones to grow and develop. Biological therapies include chemicals that stimulate the immune system to attack the cancer cells.

Maria Nortcliffe MAR. MICHT

It is also good to remember that reflexology is helpful for anyone who is caring for someone else who is ill. They also need an opportunity to relax and get rid of tension and stress. Remember reflexology cannot cure. It is not going to affect the disease. It is not going to harm. The reflexologist is there to support, to treat with love and compassion and always keep the client’s best interests at heart.

Many treatments carry quite unpleasant side effects including hair loss, nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and stress.

So what can a reflexologist do to help? Reflexology is a complementary therapy which means that it will go alongside and help during conventional treatment. It is also holistic. It treats the whole person not just the illness. It is a great shock to be diagnosed with cancer. It is easy to feel isolated as you think no one else really understands how you feel. You may not know who to turn to or who to talk to. Sometimes people want to stay strong for their family and don’t want to burden them for fear of how they may react.

A day to Remember at Silkstone Lodge..... Silkstone Lodge was buzzing with activity in May with the wedding of Lyn and Wayne, now Mr & Mrs Wollerton. After a quirky engagement where Wayne proposed dressed as Elvis, the couple quickly planned their perfect day. After family arrived from as far away as Australia, Lyn and Wayne were married at Silkstone Church. The bride-to-be arrived in style in Roy Chubby Browns’ Bentley (The style of car needs to be confirmed before print as Lyn didn’t remember whether it was a Bentley or a Rolls!) and attracted much attention that was only added to with the arrival of no less than twelve bridesmaids in claret dresses - the youngest being granddaughter Lila May at only a year old. The bride wore a beautiful ivory halterneck dress from Casamiento with boned bodice and jewel detail along with a sparkling headpiece. Of course, no bride would be complete without a gorgeous bouquet of flowers to walk down the aisle with, so Oakwell Flower Corner assembled a beautiful array of red and cream roses that looked simply stunning with the dress. Lyn decided to hold her fabulous wedding reception at Silkstone Lodge. The function room was decorated in beautiful ostrich feathers and tealight candles complete with stunning table decorations from Glamour Puss. As the celebrations went on, the couple and guests sat down to a carvery meal by the Lodge’s in-house catering team with local sourced meat from Barkers Butchers and fresh vegetables from Hoylandswaine Farm. Entertainment came from Wayne’s band Touch & Go who delighted the guests with the best of swing, motown and soul throughout the evening. A dream honeymoon to Vegas topped off the happy couples perfect day where they spent a week relaxing and taking in the sights that Vegas had to offer. Wayne and Lyn would like to thank their guests and all who contributed to their wedding day with a special mention to in-house chef Linda and florist of Oakwell Flower Corner, Diane. A very special thank you also goes to the sister of the bride, Julie who contributed greatly to the planning of the big day. In Lyn’s own words, they had ‘the perfect day.’

Sisters Lyn and Julie took over Silkstone Lodge in October 2009 and are currently re-decorating the venue. Wedding reception bookings are now being taken for 2011. To enquire, please call: 01226 790 456.

18 Wedding Feature Wedding Hair There are so many choices when it comes to wedding hair styling. Scott and his team of wedding hair specialists personalise the predicted fashion trends into a wearable looks just for you. Crisp structured curls are a look of the past whilst being replaced with a fuller more feminine look either left down a little, like a modern take on a 6os look. alternatively loosely pinned or softly scrapped up. If you desire your hair down for your big day then it needs to be full of volume starting with plenty of root lift, create softer looser curls from middle lengths and ends. Finishing off by breaking up the curls creating a more voluptuous look, adding a few plaits or twists will result in a quirky personalised look. If you prefer your hair up out of the way this seasons trends are as above but scrapped back much looser ensuring hair naturally flows. Traditional buns off set to one side and classical pleats are really popular at the moment especially as brides are becoming a little less traditional with the need of tiaras and veils making more of a focus on their actual hair styling. Unfortunately not everyone is gifted with long flowing locks, instead why not fake it as there are some amazing cost effective hairpieces and accessories which can look amazing if correctly chosen. Scott Banks Hairdressing offer professional advice and a full range of services on the run up to your big day, one of which is offering a call out service to your chosen destination this ensures that we play our part in relieving a little pressure from you.

HOME FOR SALE

6 Riverside Close, Darfield

The property has been extended to the rear to include a lounge / entertainment room (left) which in turn opens to a beautiful, carefully manicured landscape garden overlooking neighbouring woodland. The outside space certainly lends itself to entertaining and also provides a tranquil setting. Not only is the property delightful in appointment, but it is well served by an abundance of amenities including restaurants, shops and schools, but is also close to a supermarket, link roads and a number of primary and secondary schools. Barnsley Town Centre is approximately 5.5 miles away and Doncaster is also within a reasonable proximity. Suited to a number of potential purchasers including the FTB and professional couple, we urge an early inspection to not only appreciate the quantity of accommodation afforded throughout, but also the quality.

Only upon internal inspection can 6 Riverside Close be fully appreciated. In our opinion any discerning purchaser looking for a similar type property will not find a finer example than this outstanding 2 bedroomed, semi detached home.

Over recent years the property has been meticulously improved by our current vendor clients to include a quality of fitment rarely seen. Highlights include a stunning kitchen with granite worktops and Amtico flooring, (above right) a dining / sitting area with beautiful solid oak feature staircase (above) and a bathroom with quality marble tiling to the walls and floor. Eye on Food 21 The Kings Arms, The Heath, Wakefield If you fancy treating yourself to a nice meal out this weekend, we know just the place! The Kings Arms on Heath Common, is a quaint ‘oldy worldy’ pub and restaurant that serves far from old fashioned food. The Kings Arms has the best of worlds, where you can have a meal in the relaxed, cosy setting of the bar or beer garden, or you can choose to dine in a restaurant setting at weekends. A warm welcome is extended by Brazilian born Renatta, her husband Andy and their friendly helpful staff; Renatta’s origins give her the boldness to try something a little different by holding regular themed nights – check your Wakefield Eye for more details of the next events! We recently visited The Kings Arms to sample their delights, and what delights they were, the hardest thing was choosing from the varied menu, which includes plenty of options for vegetarians.

Eventually we made our choice, smoked salmon & cray fish and lemon & cream cheese roulade with watercress salad & grilled bread for myself, and Thai style salmon & haddock fishcakes with crispy leaves & sweet chilli drizzle for Rachel. They say you eat with your eyes before your taste buds get into action, well if that’s true, the presentation certainly hit the mark, an array of colour (and aromas) burst from the mini chopping boards used to serve the starter, the empty chopping boards said it all. The main courses were of equal delight with choices hard to make from such a mouth watering menu, you might be in a pub but this is certainly not ‘pub grub’ by anyone’s standards and you can see why this food is only served in the restaurant area of the Kings Arms. Rachel chose the green lipped muscles with tiger prawns, scallops and cray fish, which were beautifully presented in a large bowl to accommodate the ample portion; it really did look scrumptious, even for someone who is not a fan of shell fish I could’ve easily tucked in. My choice was the pan fried seabass fillet. All mains are served with a choice of side dishes. Whether your preference is for seasonal vegetables, salads or something a little different, the choice is so varied there is sure to be something to tempt you.

With such a wide and varied menu, the wait for your food can be lengthy and not always worth the wait, but not at The Kings Arms, the service was second to none, the food and presentation excellent served in a relaxed atmosphere, giving you time to enjoy and savour the delights. Sadly we couldn’t find room for a dessert each so we shared a Summer berries meringue & Chantilly cream Eaton mess – oh my!!! What a delight, tangy yet sweet, smooth and crunchy – absolutely divine, what a way to round off such a fantastic meal. A brandy would have been a nice way to round off the night but as I was driving I enjoyed one of the many coffee options instead. For those of you not driving The Kings Arms has a varied selection of reasonably priced wines to accompany your meal and a wide selection of liqueur coffees for that extra little treat. All in all, a lovely evening with good food, good wine and good company, our choices of food came to less than £30 per person for all three courses; for food like this that was extraordinary good value, so why not treat yourselves. The Kings Arms has just launched their new menu with yet even more tasty delights to try, don’t forget to drop by for Sunday lunch too; just remember to book in advance to avoid disappointment - 01924 377527 Have you had a really nice meal somewhere? 22 Eye on Local Business RTR Lowers the Cost of Motoring

RTR is a Barnsley company that is building a national reputation, caring for vehicle fleets, providing accident assistance and developing its innovative Road to Recovery breakdown scheme that is now one of the largest free membership breakdown schemes in the country. BFeatherstone Rovers, Barnsley Football Club and The Metrodome are three of the latest organisations to join the Road to Recovery Breakdown Scheme. The Barnsley FC badges, complete with the club logo are available from the Superstore at Oakwell, Featherstone Rovers from The Big Fellas Stadium and those from the Metrodome are available at the main reception. These are the latest of a number of clubs to have signed up to the scheme and by next year it is expected that over one million vehicles on our roads will be registered and displaying the Road to Recovery membership badge. RTR are offering the “pay as you go” scheme to their supporters and members and are confident that the no-cost facility will provide a better option than many of the more expensive recovery options. The fast growing Road to Recovery breakdown scheme has been established for nearly 2 years and offers drivers a “pay as you go” route to breakdown recovery rather than methods used by the traditional breakdown organisations. Road to Recovery is already used by many clubs and associations as part of their membership and the identifying badge for the windscreen can be personalised to include the logo of the issuing organisation.

Can you find Steve O and win £50! Steve O (Left) is the mascot of RTR and you will find him hidden somewhere within this issue of Barnsley Eye. The first 10 people to telephone or email the RTR Office will receive £50 of High Street shopping vouchers.

Football Clubs, Rugby Clubs, Vehicle Contract Hire, Car Supermarkets and Manchester’s 3,000 Black Cabs are examples of the wide range of organisations that have seen the value of including the service as part of the range of benefits they give to members and customers. Paul Hoyle, MD of RTR said, “We are a Barnsley company and are proud that three of the leading organisations in our local area have chosen to use our scheme for the benefit of their supporters.” In addition to the breakdown scheme, the range of services provided by RTR helps to support fleets of all sizes and types of vehicles. A business will depend on its vehicles and when one is involved in an incident it is important to immediately get another vehicle in place whilst the damaged is rectified. RTR can help to ensure that this is a smooth operation, getting a “like for like” vehicle, reducing the costs and providing the necessary legal support to enable the business to operate without losing time or money. If you haven’t got your Road to Recovery Breakdown sticker, contact RTR by telephone or Email and make sure that you don’t miss out on this great service. Contact: 0870 474 0148 or by email from enquiries@rtruk.co.uk

Come to the Annual RTR Main Event Every year RTR has a major event which enables everybody, whether customer, client or member of the public to come along, meet the RTR team. This year it is being held at the Sandhill Golf Club and the 200 feet long marquee will host the entertainment and the great Yorkshire Food. The evening event will start at 7pm, entry is free and there will be plenty of entertainment including Dodgems, Magicians, Brian Lorden as Elvis Presley, Miss Bacardi, Fanny Dee and other professional entertainers as well as a charity Casino.

September Album Review

Dearne FM DJ Vicky Norton gives her low down on this months new releases:

I Am Arrows – Sun Comes Up Again Andy Burrows’s promotion by some as the real talent behind Razorlight was unfair on Johnny Borrell, despite the white jeans. But it’s true that Burrows, who joined after Razorlight recorded their first album and left a couple of months after their third, is more talented than your average neighbourhood indie drummer. While in Razorlight, he released a solo album for a Winchester charity in 2008. So is there anything on Sun Comes Again likely to gets as much airplay as America (which he co-wrote)? Well, no, but the multi-instrumentalist’s work is pleasing, despite its spoonfuls of utilitarian soft rock. The most explicit reference here seems to be the sunny side of Damon Gough, whose voice Burrows can, at times, sound uncannily similar to. Sun Comes Up Again rarely grates, indeed tracks like the harpsichord-stuffed The Us are expertly crafted, but there’s less edge here than U2’s rhythm section. Still, anything’s better than having to stare at the back of those jeans, eh?

Eye on Castleford Tigers 31 Castleford Tigers Look Ahead to Next Season.... With the current Super League season coming to a close the Tigers are looking ahead to next season. It has proved to be another memorable year featuring excitement and drama from Round One. There have been a number of real high points including the opening round victory against the Champions Leeds Rhinos and the magnificent thrashing of Derby rivals Wakefield to name but a few. The team has performed really well and a number of fantastic young players grow into first team regulars. There is now a great mix of experience and youth that is starting to flourish under Head Coach Terry Matterson. Also with the addition of new star signing Richie Mathers (right) and fans favourite Danny Orr, next season already promises even more excitement. 2011 is a massive year for the club with the stadium construction and the Super League License announcement. Both projects will have a significant impact on our future and you can help us achieve our goal.
