Howdy.... What a fabulous few months it has been, as we've journeyed further afield and met more of the amazing suppliers this region has to offer. It's sure been exciting, we've travelled many miles, been welcomed with open arms and sometimes even hugs, we've raised a few eyebrows, made a few friends and we've laughed, stressed and maybe even cried‌ And every single second of it has been worth it. So, with that much emotion involved we hope you can feel the love we've put into these pages. We want to take this opportunity to thank our incredible supporters and our newly made friends, it inspires us to work harder, to make you as proud of us as we are grateful to you. Special thanks must go to Kath Heke Photography for taking such a great shot of two somewhat reluctant models! To our readers, enjoy!

shape up for your big day Here are a few tips to get you on your way to your wedding-ready body!
He popped the question, and you said yes! The date has been set… now all that’s left is to get in shape for the big day. Sometimes this can be the hardest part of the whole wedding planning process but nothing can compare to feeling and looking great on your special day. NO crash dieting Ladies, there is no magic pill, no miracle solution. Start your nutrition plan TODAY! Your body will thank you for it. Your nutrition will be the primary factor to getting your body in shape. Most ladies don’t realise that your body needs you to eat to fuel it so stick to six small meals per day to keep your metabolism firing. A firing metabolism = weight loss! TIP: Start your nutrition plan at least six months prior to your big day so that your body can adapt. No one wants to be eating nothing but lettuce in the week leading up to their wedding, right?! Consume a high protein diet Eat a diet high in protein and low in carbohydrates for optimal body fat loss. TIP: Opt for a lean source of protein every three hours each day to keep your metabolism firing. Protein sources include chicken breast, steak, turkey, kangaroo, white fish, salmon and eggs. Include plenty of fibre in your diet Fibre is an extremely effective tool when it comes to weight loss. Fibre is pivotal in helping our body rid itself of toxins. If a person is carrying excess body fat it normally means they are deficient in critical nutrients which hinder the body from natural detoxification. It is extremely important to include a fibre supplement in your daily diet. TIP: Try adding some fibre first thing in the morning upon waking. Fibre includes chia seeds, flaxseed, psyllium or a specifically formulated fibre supplement.

Use a greens formula Greens drinks are becoming ever so popular due to the tons of benefits they bring to the body. They work by alkalising the body, detoxifying the major organs, contain super foods and high antioxidant super fruits and modulate cortisol levels (stress). TIP: Our pick is the Aminologic Phytologic which also contains a full spectrum multi-vitamin complex. Consume this at least once a day for optimal health and aid in weight loss. Drink plenty of water Don’t underestimate the role that water plays in your weight loss. It not only keeps you hydrated but helps to consistently flush out the toxins from your body. TIP: Aim for 2 to 3 litres of water per day. Mix up your training Most females kill themselves sweating out hours of cardio before their big day. TIP: Ensure you mix up your training to incorporate some weight training too, this will provide toning in those areas of our body we don’t love so much! Lifting weights will not make you bulky or look manly, that’s a myth! Consistency is key And lastly, be consistent. The changes you want to make will not happen overnight. You must stick with it to get to where you want to be. If you have a bad day, don’t give up; get back into it the following day. For further information on getting in shape for your special day, pop in store and see us at Mass-Nutrition Mackay, Shop 2, 105 Victoria Street (next to Tryst Nightclub) or phone 4951 2996.
rejuvenate your mind The team at Isaac Weddings, had the pleasure of chatting with Stacey Burton, Yoga and Relaxation guru.
Meditation Connecting to your inner voice
Water and Nutrition Food for the soul
Meditation is all about being able to spend time in your own company. It doesn’t necessarily mean sitting in silence. Meditation might be walking, listening to music or knitting. It is about silencing the monkey mind (arguing thoughts in your mind) and becoming centered so you can listen to your inner voice of the heart.
To get the best out of your body, mind and soul, fuel your body with water, fresh fruit, vegetables and protein 3 – 5 times per day. Steer clear of sugary foods, processed foods, and fast foods, ‘if it doesn’t look like real food then don’t eat it’. Poor nutrition can make the body tired, anxious, increase stress levels, impact sleep patterns, impact body composition and adds to the drama and fear in life.
Yoga Brings clarity of the mind Yoga is a beautiful and nurturing exercise to connect mind, body and spirit. It is through fluent movement, breathing and mental focus where we can start connecting to all of the aspects of who we are. Yoga allows us to soften the egoic voice in our head and allows us to just be. Journal Problem solving Writing in a journal daily is a very therapeutic way to solve your problems and to help minimise chaos in the mind. As you are writing your thoughts, impressions, dreams and imaginations, it allows the mind to clear out stagnant thoughts, worries and fears. The best time to journal is in the evenings as you can reflect on the day and be conscious of your behaviours, reactions and insights, which then allow you to reflect on what you want to create for the next day, month or year, etc. The important part is to have a nice journal; pens you enjoy writing with; (which may include colours) and choose a space that is nourishing in which to write.
Music Pump Up the Jam by Technotronic Are you starting to panic? Are you feeling nervous? Well, why don’t you pick some of your favourite songs to sing along to and literally jump around to the beat. Music is one of the best ways to get out of your head and connect into the heart. Singing and dancing are a great way to unwind the body and rid yourself of worries and concerns. When you start dancing around with friends, I assure you will forget what all the fuss was about in the first place. Organise a play list and don’t let your mind be controlled by stories, drama and illusions. Blast the tunes and dance away!

HYPOXI Don’t feel alone! Australian studies suggest that up to 80% of women and 45% of men are dissatisfied with their body. In many instances, this frustration stems from an inability to lose weight from those stubborn areas despite a healthy lifestyle. Short of going under the knife, exercise is critical for sustainable weight loss. But many of us don’t like the idea of going to the gym or having a personal trainer. And when we do try to exercise, we don’t see results in the areas that bother us the most. This is where Hypoxi can help – it couples gentle exercise with advanced vacuum technology to supercharge your workout so you can see noticeable results in as little as 4 weeks!

the most effective cellulite and fat-loss treatment If planning your dream wedding has left you with little time to get in shape for your big day, or if the appearance of cellulite has you worried about wearing a bikini on your honeymoon, then Hypoxi is for you!
Hailed as one of ‘the most effective targeted weight loss and cellulite reductions treatments to come on the market’, Hypoxi has emerged as a holistic treatment that has given brides the ability to achieve significant fat and cellulite reduction in just 4 weeks. After the recommended 12 sessions, brides can expect to lose between 15 and 30 centimetres on average from their stomach, hips, bottom and thighs while also leaving their skin feeling noticeably firmer and smoother. By utilising advanced vacuum technology and gentle exercise, Hypoxi is able to target fat in the hard to reach areas and reduce the appearance of unsightly cellulite. Your body only burns fat which it can easily access, it will not burn fat in areas where circulation is poor. This fact explains why many of us find it difficult to eliminate fat and cellulite from certain areas of our body despite a strict diet and extensive training. This is where the unique Hypoxi method kicks in – it encourages stronger circulation in the problem areas. The technique is so effective that the results are visible after only a few sessions! Recent clinical studies have confirmed that the circumference loss with Hypoxi is three times higher then compared to conventional exercise or dieting.
The real beauty of Hypoxi is that a session only takes half an hour – perfect for the time poor bride! The recommended course of Hypoxi is 3 sessions per week for at least 4 weeks, and you can expect to see your skin starting to smooth out and feeling ‘tighter’ after your first 2 weeks. To help each bride get started on a confident walk down the aisle, Hypoxi Body Boutique is offering a free session and body assessment valued at $69. It’s not only the brides who want to look their best on their big day, but the bridesmaids and even mothers too - so get the girls together and book in today!

The love birds Sam and Nick met at school and started dating when they were sixteen and seventeen. Their wedding day was small and intimate, with just immediate family and life long friends. After a beach ceremony styled with knick knacks collected by the couple themselves, the guests were treated to a picnic on the beach while the newlyweds had their photos taken. They then celebrated their day together with a relaxed family dinner. Photographer: Melissa Cooney Celebrant: Sandra Rerrie Arch: Bridal Magic Flowers: Floriffic Flowers Chairs: Fiesta Rentals

what flower
would I be? “What flower would I be?” you ask of me. I gaze at you and try to choose a single bloom that speaks of all that you are. The bluest of blue flowers, I think to myself, as your clear cerulean eyes watch me. Then emotion blooms in their depths, like a flower unfurling in the dewy morning light, and I am lost. “What flower would I be?” you ask of me. A dimple appears at the side of your mouth and I think of a sweet, mischievous daisy. Then you smile and I am bathed in your grace like a sunflower glories in the sun, and I am blinded. “What flower would I be?” you ask of me. When you reach out, your touch that of delicate petals, I think I am decided, but then you dance, your elegance that of a lily, swaying in the summer breeze, and I am undecided. I close my eyes and think of the rose, the scent of you intoxicating me, and I am decided. Then you hold my hand, and I realise, like ivy clings to a tree, you have wrapped yourself completely around my soul. And I am lost. “What flower would I be?” you smile at me. And I answer you. “I cannot choose a single bloom. You are a bouquet; a collection of colours, shapes, scents and feelings that enchant, delight and intoxicate me. Without you, life would be barren, an empty garden. So stay at my side, my beloved, and see how our love will grow.” M Smale-Sim 13

let him in Lighten the load, get your man involved in planning your day.
We all know how much you can become absorbed in the planning process of your wedding day. The amount of decisions to make and details to contend with can be at times overwhelming. So why not share the load? While there are plenty of couples out there who share the decision making process relatively equally, we suspect there may be a few ladies who are reluctant to let go of the reins and a fair few men that think it’s best left completely to the ladies…
The wedding cars Okay, take a deep breath. You may not love the idea of a Kermit green Holden or a Toyota Land Cruiser, but it’s his baby and he is super proud of it, so just nod and smile and make the dream come true. Tip: Flat shoes could be the go for exiting the Land Cruiser elegantly… Chicken or Beef They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so why not secure his love permanently by leaving the menu choices for your reception up to him.
Anyone guilty? Well, we think he deserves a chance! Let him step up and take some control, after all it’s his day too and there should be elements of the day that reflect him just as much as you. While you may not completely agree with all his decisions, settle your control freak tendencies (don’t deny you have them, most of us girls do!) and try and go with the flow. He will look back on the day and those particular elements with a real sense of pride. So the question is, where can you let him run free? The wedding band His own, definitely. Yours? Maybe. If you trust him, why not? If he was capable of choosing an engagement ring that you love, then surely he can choose the wedding band as well. Personally, we think that’s pretty damn romantic. But, if you can’t go that far, then let him design or choose his own. If he wants surf style waves or the RM Williams longhorn, so be it. He’s wearing it, not you! 18
www.isaacweddings.com.au
Gifts for his men He knows his mates, so leave it up to him. Girls, your list is growing smaller! Wedding Attire Are we pushing it with this one? We think not! Some of the lads in this town can look pretty sharp when they put their minds to it, and we’re sure you’re not dressing them on a daily basis! So, have some faith and let them at least have some input into the decision on what they wear. If you’re feeling brave, let them surprise you completely. After all, did he choose your gown?! The Vows Take a step back and imagine… you’re standing in front of your fiancé on your wedding day and he is speaking from the heart, pouring out his soul and telling you he will love you until the end of time… and all in his own words. Now, we got goosebumps just thinking about it, so imagine how you will feel on the day. Sigh...

Jessica and Rhys had an eclectic feel to their day, with different elements that all tied beautifully together for a stunning and unique wedding. From each bridesmaid in a different dress to every groomsman in a different shirt and tie, this wedding allowed each member of the wedding party to let their personality shine. Venue: The family farm, ‘Illowra’ Waddells Rd, Nindaroo Celebrant: Reverend Janet Story Hair & Makeup: Inga Hairdressing and Elite Freelancing Dress: Biba, from House of Fraser (UK) Flowers: Mackay Wedding Flowers Mens: Rhys was dressed in Marcs. Nish, Kieran, Tom & Dano were dressed in multiple brands from Myer Rings: GN Jewellers Bridesmaids: Multiple brands from Myer Photographer: Candice Van Moolenbroek
“The ceremony was by far my favourite part. I was overwhelmed with on; reciting the vows in a place so special to me, overlooking the farm I grew up on and surrounded by soemoti many people I love. I also really loved that it rained! I always secretly wished for rain on my wedding so it would be a messy and a great party. There were last minute changes of ceremony location, little bit chaotic, a little bit there were muddy shoes, there were bogged buses and there was dancing in the rain. It created havoc, compl ications and surprises, making so many moments in the day unforgettable.”

eclectic evolution The times they are a changing, and when it’s in relation to bridal party attire, it’s a welcome change.
It used to be that every member of the bridal party wore identical dresses and suits, but not any longer and that’s a change worth celebrating. We’ve all seen the photos. The hourglass figure poured into a skintight satin number that accentuated everything but the right curves. The petite framed bridesmaid drowned in a bouffant horror resulting in her resembling the toilet roll doll. The faired skinned bridesmaid swathed in olive green silk, the rosy cheeks of another clashing with dazzling orange or bright pink... We could go on, but it’s time to move on. Really, it’s time. We’ve seen the evolution of bridal party attire coming through in bridesmaids dresses for a while now, gowns all in the same colour with different necklines and straps on each. This is the perfect option for different figures, as where the fuller figure bridesmaid might prefer a gown with straps, a slimmer build may prefer strapless or halter. The rainbow trend emerged recently, another great idea for those with differing skin tones. With all these options, the end result is each bridesmaid can wear a gown in a style flattering to their figure and a colour flattering to their skin tone. Which, let’s face it, makes for happy bridesmaids and fabulous photos. But wait, there’s more! The gents are getting in on the game, and it has to be said, with very exciting results. Often, the same could be said of the men as was the women in the bridal party, looking uncomfortable in ill-fitting suits, purchased or hired off the rack and not tailored to fit the broad shoulders of the weight lifting cousin. But, that’s a thing of the past, with the current trends allowing our men to show off their individual personalities in 28

mix and match attire. Coloured shirts, bow ties, braces and caps are just a small example of how men are competing with the ladies in the fashion stakes. And while it all combines to create a unique bridal party with the option of much more interesting photos, it can also be a big help in the budget department. Five men, all different size and shapes. Selected men’s shirts are on sale. You want five white shirts, all in the exact same style. Sold out. The only option is to buy them all the same style at full price. Or is it? This is where going for the eclectic look with your bridal party pays off. If you’re not set on exactly the same shirts, you can walk away with five shirts, all slightly different, but still coordinated, and they could all be on sale. The same could happen with your bridesmaid gowns. You might catch a sale where the end of season gowns are discounted and there are a mix of styles and colours, no one gown the same, but enough to select from that you find similar styles and tones to suit each maid. If you go down this eclectic path, consider tying the looks together with one feature, the same coloured pants or braces for all the men, or something as simple as their buttonholes. The girls accessories might all be matching... or not. The choice is yours. It won’t be for everyone, you may have your heart set on one colour and one style and that is perfectly fine. But if you’re open to the idea, it might be a great way to get everyone involved in the process and planning of your day. It could make for some fun shopping outings and also might just save you a dollar or two, and that, as we all know, is a good enough reason to consider it! images by candice van moolenbroek

feathers, fur and fantasy Embrace the cooler winter months and be a true princess on your day.
Winter feels like the perfect time to get our princess on, Snow White to be specific! With House of Lucie Creative, in collaboration with Isaac Weddings, Elite Freelancing and BLU Wedding Boutique, we created a fantasy world fit for Snow White, a winter soiree. Winter landscapes in the Mackay region can be green leafy forests or miles of brown wooded and rocky areas, both beautiful in their own ways. This winter inspiration shoot combines those two extremes into one amazing theme full of warmth and everything we love about winter time. I created two looks that incorporate traditional winter accessories including fur and feathers, but in a way that is climate friendly to the Mackay region. Delicate embellished and beaded gowns, thick white fur, and torn textured fabrics can create a statement for winter weddings. By adding a fur cape, a simple gown can be made even more elegant. Look 1. Constance wears a gown with a high lace neck line and cap sleeve, with the addition of a hand made fur and feather cap, and a wrap around fur cape designed for BLU Wedding Boutique’s winter collection. Look 2. Constance wears an A-line frock featuring textured (pleated and ruched) champagne fabric (length and colour optional), a crystal embellished belt highlights her natural waist line, a satin head wrap with an oversized flower, and the addition of a fur cape to set the winter mood. Useful tips for planning a winter wedding: • Add a fur wrap or cape to your strapless or spaghetti strapped gown to add warm elegance to your day. •
dd a BLU Wedding Boutique white cape and head piece. This is a great A way to choose the dress of your dreams, and turn it into a winter wedding dress without a big price tag.
•

•

BLU Wedding Boutique has fully lined gowns to help you stay warm in the cooler months. There are plenty of options that will keep you warm and still look beautiful.

local honeymoons If long haul flights overseas, five star accommodation and a personal butler are simply not in your budget, then think a little closer to home for your honeymoon.
When we hear the word honeymoon, we think of exotic destinations, remote locations in distant far flung corners of the world. For some of us that is a reality, but for many, with a wedding to pay for, an overseas honeymoon can come a long way down in the list of priorities. So, we’ve come up with some local options that might just help solve this dilemma. Bush Honeymoon - Early morning sunlight filtering through the trees, chiming bird song and the distant sound of a burbling creek. This is what you can wake up to on the first morning of your honeymoon in the exquisite Eungella National Park. If you feel inclined, you can enjoy walks along one of the many walking tracks; or take a saucy dip together in one of the watering holes; in winter, pop open a bottle of bubbly in front of a log fire. If getting back to nature is your thing, depending on your requirements, there are a number of accommodation options in the park, such as Eungella Mountain Edge Escape, Finch Hatton Gorge Cabins or Broken River Mountain Resort. 36
www.isaacweddings.com.au
Beach Honeymoon - Sand between your toes and sunlight on your... ahhh, the delights of a beach style honeymoon! We have beaches that rival any overseas location and all within driving distance of Mackay. There are a multitude to chose from, and many with beautiful accommodation to match. One such example is Rose Bay in Bowen. A secluded beach, with island views and turquoise waters, you couldn’t possibly ask for anything more. For accommodation, Rose Bay Resort is absolute beach front, meaning you only have to walk few steps out the door to feel the sand beneath your feet. Other options include Gloucester Bay Eco Resort and Monte’s Resort in Hydeaway Bay. Island Honeymoon – We think you’ll agree, it’s the ultimate honeymoon fantasy destination, a romantic secluded tropical island. We are simply spoiled for choice with the Whitsundays on our doorstep. Everyone has to experience the Great Barrier reef at least once in their life time and who better to experience it with than your brand new spouse! If diving, snorkeling, bush
walking, kayaking or doing nothing at all are part of your plans (50/50 chance you come somewhere in that list!) are high on your list of must-do’s then the island experience is for you. For obvious reasons, we can’t list them all here, but for an island experience with a difference, a get back to nature vibe, we think Hook Island might be just the ticket. Offering a “unique, closeup encounter with the Australian wilderness” you can enjoy all that we’ve mentioned and more with various options of accommodation. Ps: If you can’t pick just one island, perhaps hiring a charter yacht to sail round them all might be an option! City Honeymoon – This might be a hard one to wrap your head around, especially if you’re born and bred in Mackay and you’ll meet a relative round every corner you turn, but for those in the wider region, a trip to the city might be on the cards. With plenty to see and do - restaurants, cinemas, Artspace, the markets, the shops, the marina, the nightspots – you could actually have a pretty great honeymoon right here in the city! And because you’re images by photos by miss p
not travelling too far, you might be able afford to splash out on that ritzy five star accommodation after all! B & B Honeymoon - Bit of Both, Beach and Bush, Bed and Breakfast! If ocean views from a hilltop overlooking subtropical bushland sound desirable to you, then head south of Mackay and find yourself in Grasstree Beach. Nestled between the Great Dividing Range and the Pacific Ocean, it is another unsung hero of our region. For accommodation, Grasstree Beach Bed and Breakfast could be just up your alley, with the beach near by, a private cottage of your own and an in-ground pool to wile away the hours in the sun. So before you begin looking further afield, consider the possible benefits of a local honeymoon. It could save you hours of travel time and be much easier on your budget. After all, it’s not the distance you travel on your honeymoon that’s important, it’s the time you get to spend together. 37
borne out of love… and lots of it! When Shane and Shanara set about planning their own wedding in 2012, they didn’t want any of the commercially produced decorations and favours seen all too often now. Upon searching, high and low, for unique, handcrafted pieces to adorn their wedding, they discovered a void in the market. They set about handcrafting pieces that would not only be beautiful, but would serve as special mementos for years to come. After receiving a wonderful response from family and friends…Unbridled was created. Unbridled specialises in lovingly handcrafted, affordable bespoke and ready-to-order decorations, centrepieces and favours. Items include Handcrafted Timber Cake boards, which can be used for christenings and birthdays for decades to come and the Horseshoe Wishing Wells and Signs which become a feature item in your home long after the big day. This couple love what they do and it shows in their work. Shanara in particular loves being part of styling beautiful events and gets much fulfillment from seeing a happy bride. It’s literally Unbridled love, because as Shanara tells us, she loves to get wrapped up in the romance with you! Phone: Email: Website: Facebook: 38

locks of love How to get the best from your hair on your wedding day
Let’s face it, a girl’s crowning glory is important all of the time, and a hair cut alone can really make or break your week (or month, or even year!) depending on how good or bad it is. So it’s imperative, that on the biggest day of your life, your hair is placed in the hands of a trusted professional, who knows exactly what you want and how to achieve it.
the colour to mellow. If you have a vibrant colour, such as copper or red, you may want to colour this just days before to retain that vibrancy. For first timers – consider colouring your hair at your initial consultation, so you have time to get the colour perfected.
Often times, the moment the engagement ring is placed on that finger, the bride-to-be decides she is growing her hair. Now is not the time to avoid your hairdresser! Don’t be tempted to forgo trims and simply let it grow. Maintaining your hair with regular trims every six weeks will ensure your hair is in the best possible condition on the day. Treat your locks to some deep conditioning treatments three months prior to the wedding for a healthy sheen.
• D on’t wash your hair the day of the wedding or the night before, as silky, clean hair is hard to style. Wash it the day before your wedding day and maybe avoid the conditioner bottle – check with your stylist.
Book your hairstylist at least six to eight months before your wedding. Have a consultation at this stage, to discuss your options or intended style. Bring pictures of hairstyles you like along, and advise the stylist if you have your heart set on wearing a specific headpiece as this may affect the style you’re hoping for.
• B e open to suggestions, especially at the trial stage. Play. Something you never imagined might suit you, could just be the magic ingredient in your overall look.
Take into consideration the style of your gown when choosing your hairstyle. Pairing loose, beachy curls with a sleek cocktail gown may not be the best option, nor might a smooth, elegant chignon suit a flowing, bohemian gown. If need be, do a trial closer to the day (3- 4 months prior) to ascertain your intended style will suit your face shape and style of dress. Take photos to bring with you on the wedding day to aid the stylist. If your hair is coloured, book your re-colour for two weeks prior to the wedding to ensure there is no regrowth, and to allow time for
Tips for the perfect bridal coiffure:
• W ear a button through shirt or dress that you can remove without disturbing your hair.
• B e honest. If you don’t like it, don’ t waste the stylist’s time. Politely suggest another option and move on! • G ive yourself time. Don’t book yourself right down to the last second with no time to spare, in case things don’t go according to plan. Trust me, your stylist will thank you also. • T rust your stylist. They are experts, and if you have a good, honest relationship with them (and let’s face it, they often know more about us than our best friend’s do!) you should relax in the knowledge that your locks are in capable hands.
