hello there... While the days rush towards Christmas and the New Year, we here at Isaac are looking back at the months gone by, and finding it hard not to feel more than a little proud. With three issues of Isaac Weddings out in the world and Issue 4 well under way, we are celebrating the fact that we might just have helped some newlyweds out there have the day of their dreams. And that is why we do what we do. And we can’t wait to do it all again next year, bigger and better. So here’s to you… our readers, supporters and advisors, our brides and groomsto-be and newlyweds. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinions with us. Thank you for your questions, which have made us look at businesses or ideas that we might not have otherwise thought to. “Thinking back now, I went to see my Grandma before I got married as she had a fall the week before and couldn’t make it to our wedding. I didn’t realise this was the last time I would see her as she passed away a few weeks later. I feel very blessed I could share this memory with her and capture some beautiful moments. It’s easy to become absorbed in the planning of your wedding and to forget about everything else going on around you. Your days are filled with decisions, appointments, and endless phone calls, and that’s not even including your day job! Stress can take up permanent residence, but there are ways to combat that. Take some time to take five… or fifty five… for yourself.

massage for life – for a balanced you It’s often difficult to recognise when you’re stressed. There are times in our lives when we’re on “autopilot”, just getting through the day. Planning a wedding is one of those times. It’s hard to take time for yourself, but as massage therapist Coral Harvey tells us, it’s probably when you most need to! Coral explains why massage therapy is a great option for your health, both in the days leading up to your wedding and beyond.
As one of the oldest remedies known to man, massage therapy was practiced by the Ancient Chinese and the Egyptians and is fast becoming more accepted in the Western World as having added health benefits other than ‘feeling good’. Being Present If we consider modern day living, being present doesn’t spring to mind. We are forever listening to “mind talk”, living in the past or future. Massage Therapy is a great grounding tool to bring us back to the present moment, where all the best decisions are made; where we can ‘regroup’ and give back to the vessel that carries us through life, our body. Prevention as well as cure The benefits of regular massage as part of a total health care regime are: boosting the immune system, our moods and general sense of well-being by unburdening the body of muscular tension, stress and toxins. Remedial treatments often present as a strain of some sort, of misuse or injury; stretching, massage. Cupping and taping can help a wide range of acute conditions and since the body reacts favourably to pleasure rather than pain; often pain is not necessary.
strangled by a situation’, tight hips is ‘the inability to open up’ and lower back pain can be ‘stability/money issues’. In this sense, thoughts influence our functional bodies; and pain will always reside in the weakest part of our bodies. Body work techniques such as The Horstmann Technique and Acupuncture recognise these inter-relationships and by the use of specific points can resurface locked emotion/experience for the client to release into the present. Finding a Practitioner If you’re a burly rugby player you may need the deep-tissue male masseur; otherwise finding the therapist that suits you is key; they will ideally be multi skilled, have recognised industry qualifications, a genuine interest in health and be registered with an Association. Massage therapy is perfect for melting away the pre-wedding jitters! So when you book your next massage or purchase a gift certificate, realise you are giving the gift of health and vitality. And bridesmaids, remember your bride leading up to the wedding, it is the perfect way for her to unwind and relax before the big day!
Mind Body Relationship There are parallels between ailment and life; when our life goes out of balance, so does our body. Documented by Louise Hay in ‘Heal your Life’ it is observed that areas of our body can relate to different areas of our being; for example, a tight neck is ‘feeling

“Dan and I just wanted to say a big thank you for your preparation and organisation for our beautiful day on Saturday! Right down to the words you chose for the ceremony, which were exactly what we were looking for (a little bit different, but perfect for us), to the rehearsal. From start to finish, you did a wonderful job. So again, thank you.”
Dan + lucy
“so… do we have to write our own vows?” We are so fortunate today that your wedding ceremony can be as you as you want it to be. There are of course components that need to be included to ensure it maintains its legal integrity, but for the rest of it, is up to you!
The first recorded wedding vows were penned in the mid 1500’s where upon agreement to marry, the Church of England would offer couples a choice. They could promise each other to ‘love and cherish’ or alternatively, the groom promises to ‘love, cherish and worship’ while the bride to ‘love, cherish and obey.’ While I have met some partners that were keen to include the “obey” element, that’s about the only time it’s mentioned (usually with a sheepish grin on the face of the Bridegroom!) and the term has gone by the way with “Speak now or forever hold your peace” or “until death do we part”. Life has changed considerably since the 1500’s, and so too have weddings and what is considered traditional. So, when it comes to the vows, I have been heard to say with great regularity that “there just isn’t anything you can’t Google!” and that’s where I encourage people to start, because starting is the hardest part. You know in your heart what you feel, but sometimes finding the right words can be near impossible. My favourite site for directing couples to, in the first instance is www.myweddingvows.com. Vows shared by brides and
grooms, trying to find just the right words. There are also some good questions to be found at http://weddings.about.com/od/ yourweddingceremony/a/PersonalizeVows.htm that help as well. In most cases couples find this a great point to start and can cut and paste a little from here, a little from there; they add a little from themselves and a little bit of their partner; add dash of humor, a dollop of romance and craft themselves a heartfelt commitment statement. By definition, this part of the ceremony is what you are committing to in relation to your marriage and your partner. Despite the temptation to suggest that he always put the lid back on the toothpaste and she remove her hair from the shower drain, this is about you! The one big chance to be a bit romantic and a lot sincere and not cop any flack! Remember that you are not on your own in this task, your celebrant is also very experienced, so don’t hesitate to ask, they may have something to share or can sit with you to assist in writing your vows. But most of all, be guided by your heart and don’t let fear stand between you and a beautiful shared moment.

pitch and woo The team at Isaac Weddings, had the pleasure of chatting with Jonathon Krywicki, proposal genius.

the market by helping men create a unique, unforgettable and mind-blowing marriage proposal. Jonathan (who is often referred to as the ‘I Do Guy’) is also the author of ‘The 7 Biggest Mistakes Men make when Proposing’ and regularly writes blogs on how to plan the perfect proposal.
Jonathan, you must be one of the most romantic men in Australia! Many women would think you’re in a minority group when it comes to romance and proposals, would you agree?
There’s a small group of men out there who proactively plan romantic and special events and don’t only do it on Valentine’s Day etc, but it is a minority. Many men I’ve spoken to admit that after they married, the romance dropped off. Perhaps this is because there’s no longer the ‘chase’, they already ‘have their girl’, so to speak, so there’s no longer the need to ‘woo’. Either way, most men think being romantic is just bringing flowers home or taking her out to dinner. Pitch & Woo is all about re-instating the art of romance for the modern day man. Letting them know it’s okay to be romantic, to say I love you and to demonstrate your love to your partner. What is the most elaborate or unique proposal you’ve engineered?
It would be my own, the surprise dream getaway proposal. Read more about it here www.pitchandwoo.com/proposals-stories-created/ dreamgetaway-competition/ Has weather or some other unforeseen event meant you’ve had to make last minute changes to a proposal?
Not yet! I go into a huge amount of detail when planning proposals and plan as much as possible for the unforeseen. In saying that, there have been some close calls, but sometimes it’s out of your hands and intervening may make things worse. An example of this is a proposal I recently did in Capri. Someone who had a particular role to play and wasn’t to make themselves known to the couple until the day of the proposal, ended up meeting them unintentionally the day before. I thought their cover would be blown and the impact of the surprise would not be as great, but to cut a long story short, it all worked out and didn’t interrupt the flow of the proposal! Do you think in the future your expertise will be called upon by women wanting to be the one to propose?
called spontaneous manner, I think it will take their relationship forward in leaps and bounds. I call it Project Romance; helping men proactively plan the romantic moments in their relationship. It’s an exciting and logical next step. I believe if you keep the spark alive and continue to fall in love with your partner, you’ll avoid becoming one of the divorce statistics that seem to be claiming so many couples. What would be the number one piece of advice you would give to men planning to propose?
Don’t overdo it and try to create a moment that won’t resonate with your partner. Is an exotic location the key to success? I mean, would a backyard proposal really get a yes?
I definitely think an exotic location adds to the excitement of the proposal. There’s something magical about being away in an incredible location. A backyard proposal could get a yes, but you would have to make the space really come alive, you need to set the scene and create something that visually takes your partner on a journey. Have nerves ever got the better of the man?
Yes, actually. A friend of mine was planning to propose in New York when they were there on holiday. He had it all planned, the ring and everything was set. However, on the day things didn’t go as planned, I’m not quite sure what happened exactly, but he got caught up in the emotion, nerves got the better of him and he didn’t end up proposing. I’m not sure what he has planned now, but I have a feeling it will happen soon... Lastly, what did you want to be growing up?
Hahaha, a magician. I love entertaining and creating moments that people can’t help but smile! Hmm, we think Jonathon may have filled that job description already! Thinking about proposing, boys? Email jon@pitchandwoo.com or visit: www.pitchandwoo.com
I think there may be a select group of women who want to propose to men, however I think tradition will hold true. It’s up to the man to woo his partner, it’s been like that for the last 100 years and will continue to be so, I believe, for many years to come. What other goals do you have for the future, how elaborate can you imagine the proposals being?
Proposals are my first entrant into the space, but the real mission is to help men be more romantic. I’d like to help men learn how to create the moments, similar to those in a proposal, which bring you and your partner closer. Moments that can transcend words and create a powerful emotional connection. If men can continually create these moments in an unpredictable and so 17

dress for your shape Hourglass
triangle
Hourglass figures have a defined waist and shoulders and hips that are the same width (in proportion to each other).
Triangle figures are curviest on the bottom and have slim shoulders, chests and waistlines.
Choose a gown that will accentuate your tiny waistline, such as a mermaid or ball gown style. Add detail to your waistline with a beaded belt. Any neckline will flatter a bride with an hourglass figure, but a deep V-neck, especially one that criss-crosses or wraps over the bust line is flattering. Flowing fabrics will drape beautifully over your curvy figure. 28
www.isaacweddings.com.au
A-line and ball gown silhouettes flatter triangle-shaped brides. Gowns with detail at the waist will draw the eye to the smallest part of the body. Avoid a fitting style such as a mermaid or sheath gown that draws attention to the hips. A strapless sweetheart neckline or beading on the bodice will bring attention to the dĂŠcolletage.
inverted triangle
rectangle
circle
Broad shoulders and slim waists, hips and legs are classic elements of inverted triangle shapes.
Rectangle figures have shoulders and hips that are equal width, with little to no definition in the waist.
Gowns with A-line or full skirts paired with a slim bodice will balance out your figure, while accentuating your slim waist. Try a short gown with a flared skirt to draw attention to your slender legs. Sweetheart necklines create an illusion of the shoulders being narrower.
To add curves , opt for a style such as a sheath, empire or A-line gown. A bias cut sheath gown will create curves, while an A-line style nipped in at the waist will create an hourglass shape. A sweetheart or scoop neckline will taper the bust line and draw attention to the slender curve of the neck. Choose a dress with ruching in the bodice or detail on the waist band to add the illusion of a small waist.
Circle figures are known for their full chest, narrow hips and slim legs. Circles tend to have a less defined waist. A gown that cinches in at the smallest point on the waist line, possibly corseted, then flares out into an A-line or ball gown style will flatter this figure. A bodice with an open neckline; strapless, a deep V-neck or sweetheart, will accentuate the neck and collar bone. Use embellishments around your shoulders and neckline to draw attention to those areas. 29
surprise Noun: An unexpected or astonishing event, fact, or thing. Verb:
30
(of something unexpected) Cause (someone) to feel mild astonishment or shock.
Let’s face it, life doesn’t throw surprises our way that often, at least not good ones. And if one were to come along that matched the definition, then it could only be a good thing. And if it happened to be a surprise wedding and you were a lucky guest? Even better!
drops, and all the guests around begin clapping and cheering, beside themselves with delight. As are you. You’ve been let in on the most special of secrets, you are about to witness the most romantic of nuptials, made that way simply because it had been kept a secret.
From a guest’s point of view, imagine arriving at a venue expecting to attend an engagement or birthday party. You grab yourselves a drink, and begin to mingle. Where is the birthday girl, or couple? Oh there she is, she’s just appeared, looking radiant in… wait, what? She’s wearing a wedding dress? Your eyes flick to her fiancé and he’s beaming at her, tugging at the collar of his shirt a little nervously. And suddenly, the penny
And did you stress about your outfit and what to buy them for a wedding gift? Not so much, because it said engagement/ birthday party on the invitation! Did you have to worry about getting a babysitter from 3pm in the afternoon until whenever the wedding ended? No, the invitation stated a 7pm arrival! From a guest’s point of view, a surprise wedding is a winner. From a couple’s point of view, it’s that and so much more.
www.isaacweddings.com.au
Stress free planning, or at the very least majorly reduced, would have to be a key factor. Less people are involved in the planning, which in turns reduces the number of opinions/viewpoints that can complicate matters. Then there is romance. The two of you planning in secret injects the romance back into the union, something that can get lost in the sometimes exhausting planning of a wedding. And if those two aren’t enough to win you over, there’s also the chance of a smaller budget. If a cocktail evening or an evening meal at a restaurant is the plan, guests arrive later and you’re not entertaining them at a venue while you head off for photos after the ceremony.
course, seeing the delight on your loved ones faces as you reveal your secret. Even the most jaded of guests will be hard pressed not to feel a sense of delight! The unexpected will create a sense of unity amongst your guests as they witness your nuptials. Less formal. More intimate. Less chance to become nervous. Less opportunity for the groom to develop stage fright! There really are no negatives to speak of; it’s all just romance, intimacy, delight and wonder, all rolled up in a surprise package. Please, can someone invite us to one?!
And there are so many more positives! The element of surprise of image by candice van moolenbroek

Follow mixing instructions on packet, add a slight zest of lemon for taste, then pour cake mix evenly between both tins so they are over half full. Once baked, allow cake to cool. Once cakes have cooled, place the larger one on the cake plate and the smaller on top. We secured ours with one or two skewers down through both cakes. Using a wide blade or spatula, spread the icing using long strokes, keeping it textured rather than smooth.

pick your bunch There are so many choices when it comes to planning your wedding and one of the decisions that can often cause a headache or two is your flowers. “Out of season; too expensive; not available in that colour, or just doesn’t suit,” are just some of the problems you might face when choosing your blooms. But there are some easy ways you can simplify the process.
38
Budget Your budget will essentially determine what types of flowers you can have. Talk with your florist so you can work out what you can achieve within that budget and whether there is any room for flexibility.
Style of Gown Being the backdrop to your bouquet, your wedding gown plays an important part in the decision making. Every gown is different and certain bouquet styles will suit some gowns more than others, depending on skirt line, detail and fabric.
Colour theme You may have already decided your colour theme, in which case your choices of flowers are narrowed down to ones within that colour range. If you’ve only chosen your fabrics, take swatches of your gown and your bridesmaid’s to your florist, along with any photos of designs you like, to assist them in advising you. Let the florist know the general theme of your wedding, i.e. vintage or modern, as they will be able to suggest appropriate flowers to go with it.
Full-skirted gowns tend to suit a vintage posy, round, formal and elegant in design, while slimmer fitting gowns tend to suit cascading bouquets, or a simple hand-tied posy. A bouquet should never overpower the dress or the bride, but rather complement the overall look.
www.isaacweddings.com.au
Personality Don’t forget, you can have fun with your flowers! Let your personality shine through in your choice of bouquet. Be a bit quirky if you want to. Sometimes, the most unusual of choices can end up being the most effective… and the cheapest!

And the bride wore... The long and short of tea length gowns. Tea and cocktail length gowns, while not yet hugely popular, are beginning to develop a following with the more fun loving of brides. They are classic, fun and can really bring out the personality of a bride. The tea length dress, the skirt finishing above the ankle but below the knee, has been in and out of fashion in a number of previous eras. It was in the 1940’s that the Tea Skirt, otherwise known as the Midi, reached its peak of popularity, appearing in the design of almost all of women’s everyday outfits. By the 1960’s, it then started to become outdated as the fashionable hem length began to shorten once more. There are a number of benefits in choosing a shorter length gown as an alternative to the floor length gown. Brides can show off their gorgeous heels, especially when kicking them up on the dance floor! For practicality’s sake, you will be much more comfortable in the shorter gown, on a hot or humid day, of which we have many in this region.

isaac to the
rescue
Things go wrong. It happens. Sometimes it’s unavoidable. But it’s okay, the Isaac team are here to help!
Brunette blotches. Hair colour stains?
Manicure mayhem. You smudged your
Wait a few hours until your natural oils have returned to your skin, then try an oil based eye makeup remover with a cotton ball.
polish before it had a chance to dry? Dip a cotton bud in nail polish remover and apply a small amount to the damaged area. Let it dry then apply clear polish over top. And hold your flowers in that hand!
Cabernet calamity. Great Uncle Albert just spilled red wine on your wedding dress, but it’s going to be okay! Gently dab the stain with a moistened napkin, then after the fabric dries, use a piece of chalk to cover any parts of the stain still remaining.
Puffy eyed panic? Try the frozen spoon trick. Put two metal teaspoons in the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes, then lay them on your eyelids face up, with the rounded part in full contact with your lid. Keep them in place for a few minutes. Busting out. Broken strap on your wedding gown? It’s not a problem at all! Have a sewing kit on hand and a friend handy with a needle and thread. And if that fails, simply use a safety pin to attach it.
Hellish
heels. Broken heel on your
Manolo? Firstly, a Manolo should never break… so this is a little contradictory. But… if it does happen? Super glue! Another element of your wedding day emergency kit. And again, if that doesn’t work, there are far worse things than walking down the aisle towards the man you love, in bare feet…
Climbing ladders. Run in your stocking? Clear nail polish (which you already have, because you just used it to fix your manicure) will put a halt to its progress. If it’s too big to remedy, grab a bottle of moisturiser and go bare legged!
Tan terrors. Patchy or too dark tan? Use an exfoliating glove and scrub the dark patches carefully until they blend in with the rest of your tan. Be careful not to take it too far and end up with light patches. If your overall tan is too dark, scrub all over!
Blemish blues. You’ve woken up with a pimple to rival Toula’s on My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Well, step away from the Windex, and “Ice, ice baby!” Ice will reduce the swelling enough for you to cover with concealer and powder. Zipper letdown. Busting a move has bust your zip? Still got that needle handy? This time thread it with fine fishing nylon, (from in your wedding emergency kit) and get your needle happy girl to sew you into your gown.
The best way to combat any issue that could arise on your wedding day is to be prepared. Prepared with tools to rectify the problem and prepared that something might go wrong in the first place. Being open to this will reduce your stress and panic if something does occur. And remember, he loves you. He’ll still marry you - wine stained, broken shoed, puffy eyes and all. xx 43
