PROPAGANDA What is propaganda? A general definition of propaganda is information favoring only one side. Individuals using propaganda are attempting to sway public opinion to justify their position. During World War I, all governments issued many kinds of propaganda in order to persuade people to make sacrifices for the war. 7
WORK IN TEAMS: Directions: Look carefully at the poster in front of you. Pay attention to the detail in the picture. Answer the following questions, and write your answers in complete sentences. 1. Which country is your propaganda poster from? 2. Are there any written words? If so, what does this poster say? (If it is in a foreign language, look for the translation around the picture) 3. To whom is the message on this poster directed? 4. Who is sending the message? 5. What is the purpose of the poster and what is its message? 6. Are there any figures on the poster? If so, who are they and what do they represent? 7. What emotions is your poster trying to bring out in its reader? How should the viewer feel after seeing the poster?
