This portfolio contains a selection of completed academic projects during my Bachelor of Architectural Design at the University of Montreal. It constitutes the narative of my personal design exploration incluscope. With each project, I was challenged to answer to multiple issues creatively whilst considering factors such as context, culture and social interactions. -

L’univers de la garderie est composé de deux mondes différents mais complémentaires : celui de l’enfant et celui de l’adulte. Qu’arrive t-il lorsque l’on unit les deux ? C’est en suivant cette logique que le programme de la garderie se met en place : une partie «organique » autour de laquelle vient s’organiser différents espaces «orthogonaux» abritant les salles de classe. L’orthogonal fait référence à la cabane dans l’arbre :
The world of care is composed of two different but complementary worlds: that of the child and the adult. What happens when one combines the two? It is this logic that the daycare program is set up: a so-called «organic» around which would organize different spaces «orthogonal» housing the classrooms.The orthogonal would refer to the hut in the tree instead of explorations, experiences and challenges. L’organique est structural. Structure polyvalente qui se métamorphose au gré des besoins de l’enfant, tantôt espace d’accueil pour faciliter le rituel de séparation entre parents et enfants, tantôt structure de jeux favorisant la motricité de l’enfant en l’incitant à y grimper, s’accrocher, et glisser. The organic is structural. Versatile structure that is transformed according to the needs of the child, at times comforting shelter that facilitates the ritual of separation between parents and children, at times promoting children’s motor skills by encouraging them to climb, hang down, etc.

L’essentiel restant que le contact de l’enfant avec la nature qui l’entoure est primordiale à son développement personnel et le bâtiment intervient ici Ici réside toute l’essence du projet. Comment vivre dans les arbres ou mieux, avec ou à travers les arbres ? L’observation des cycles saisonniers peut devenir un événement et fasciner l’enfant, tout comme le déploiement de la structure organique qui se métamorphose selon ses besoins. Essentially, the contact of the child with the nature that surrounds him is crucial to his/her personal development and the building comes here as an object in space designed to encourage that interaction. There lies the essence of the project. How to live in trees or better with or through the trees? Just observing seasonal cycles can become a fascinating event for a child as well as the deployment of the so-called organic structure transforming itself according to the needs of the child. A rustle of leaves, a drop of water dripping down a leaf and many other natural phenomenas fascinate children and ensure their mental and physical well-being.

Comment habiter un cube? Telle était la problématique face à laquelle nous nous étions retrouvés pour ce projet. Le cube de 2,4m de large, devient un moment de pause et de détente mobile et polyvalent à travers l’espace. Ses déploiements créent des espaces variés et différenciés propices à des activités telles que la lecture, la sieste ou encore l’admiration de entre espace intérieur et espace extérieur. How to live a cube? That was the problem against which we had found for this project. Cube 2.4 m wide, becomes a moment of rest and relaxation mobile and versatile through space. Deployments create spaces conducive to varied and differentiated activities such as reading, napping or admiration of the surrounding nature, while leading a discussion on the relationship between interior and exterior space.

Des lanières de terrain de quatre mètres. Un îlot imaginaire au
à une nouvelle manière de vivre ensemble. Plus qu’un projet concrètement réalisable, notre proposition se veut utopique et innovatrice. A l’image d’un organisme vivant, l’îlot s’organise en plusieurs cellules : les modules de logements, alimentées et liées entre elles par un système nerveux de circulation dynamique qui correspond à la passerelle (middle loop), tandis que l’organe vital est un lieu de verdure partageable favorisant le rassemblement. La lower loop, composée de multiples bandes paysagères, créee de légères modulations de topographie, sortes d’événements ponctuant la promenade de l’usager. higher loop relie le tout au troisième étage et offre aux habitants de cet îlot peu conventionnel une piste cyclable de plus d’un kilomètre!
Land strips of four meters. An imaginary urban island within tare whilst creating pleasant functionning collective and private spaces. The proposal aims an utopian and innovative approach to communal living. Acting as a living organism, the island is organized into several cells, modules, units, powered and interconnected by a dynamic circulation nervous system, the middle loop, while the body is a vital collective place of greenery encouraging interactions. The lower loop, composed of transient bands, creates light modulations of topography, punctuating the promenade of the inhabitants. Finally, the an unconventional bike reaching up to one kilometer!

L’enjeu de ce projet illustre bien la problématique des logements à Montréal, souvent allongés et peu généreux en matière de luminosité. La solution adoptée ici, en terme d’aménagement, se traduit par des cours intérieures privées pour chacun des logements permettant un apport en lumière naturelle considérable, d’agréables vues et opportunités d’activités familiales extérieures. The principal subject of this project illustrates well the housing issue in Montreal with often elongated and poorly lighted dwellings. Le bain public se veut une interprétation contemporaine du rituel du tière architecturale et ressource naturelle dans le processus de création. Une maquette conceptuelle créée à partir d’un simple morceau de carton se veut un dispositif générant des espaces différenciés, variés et riches en imitant la versatilité et malléabilité du bois. Ce matériau a été choisi en fonction de son impact sur le corps, l’oeil et l’esprit ainsi que sur l’espace architectural. The public bath is intended as a contemporary interpretation of the resource and architectural material in the architectural process. A conceptual model created from a simple piece of cardboard serves as a device generating differentiated spaces, rich and varied imitating the versatility and workability of wood. This material was chosen based on its impact on the body, the eye and the mind as well as the architectural space. sketch & concept

L’aspect tectonique du batiment a été pensé de manière à exploiter toutes les possibilités matérielles du bois et les relations qu’il peut entretenir avec l’eau, élément central du projet. Le confort thermique des usagers est garanti tout en renforcant l’expression topographique du projet. The tectonic aspect of the building was designed in order to exploit all the possibilities of wood and its relationship with water, central element of the project.
