Health and Fitness Week Wheels Day

The children in KS2 enjoyed two energetic Wheels Day events. To encourage fitness activities the children were encouraged to do physical exercise on their roller skates, skateboards and scooters; with some of the teachers also wobbling around the playground. The children brought in their favorite 'Wheels' and had a lot of fun with their friends and teachers, by whizzing around on their different size wheels and trying to show and share their best skills and tricks!

Secondary students celebrated Health and Fitness Week through various fun activities and very interesting topics, competitive games and special events. The Athletics Challenge at the Dinamo stadium, the dance routine at lunch time, Pilates and body combat sessions as well as interclass football competitions kept the students fit and active during the whole week. Health and Fitness was also linked with History, Business Studies, English or Modern Foreign Languages topics. The Creative Arts Department was involved into designing posters and playing short sports theatre games, while in music the students sang different sport clubs anthem and famous Olympics songs.

Parent Workshops Parents and other adults can play an essential role in encouraging a love of reading and an interest in books that will give a strong foundation that we can build upon at school. This will set children up for a lifetime of pleasure from reading. This is why, for the past two years, we have supported parents by organising EY/ KS1 Phonics and Reading Workshops in order to share strategies and resources. Parents used the occasion to ask questions about how our Phonics Programme, based on Phonics International, works. After the workshops, parents have been encouraged to visit their own child’s class where they have been able to see all the strategies in practice.

The main objective of the PTA Presentation is to make ourselves known to all the new parents and rekindle old connection with the community of our school. The presentation explained the valuable work the PTA does in support of ISB and the role parents can take within it. The aim was for everyone to have a better understanding of what the PTA does, why it is important and in what ways parents may become involved. International Day Chinese Lessons This term we have introduced a new subject to the primary curriculum. First language Chinese students are now able to learn their native language with native speaking Chinese teachers for two lessons a week.

Our Chinese teachers are teaching small groups of children in Foundation Stage, Key stage one and Key Stage two to speak, read and write their language, including Chinese characters. In the future we hope to expand this provision to be able to offer Chinese language studies to all students. We are very pleased to welcome them as part of the primary team.

A celebration of our wonderful community This year, the very popular International Week started on the 10th October and continued throughout the week with numerous activities aimed at making the ISB students more familiar with the world’s wonderful cultures and traditions.
