PRESS KIT ALL THE PRESS RELEASE FOR THE FESTIVAL

Submissions now open for the new edition with a double artistic direction

The Ischia Film Festival, now at its fifteenth edition, redoubles its energies. Boris Sollazzo, film critic and writer, already in the team of the Venice Days and consultant for years for many important festivals, was appointed as new artistic director, thus joining the founder of the Festival Michelangelo Messina. Together they will launch a renewed growth of the festival, which already plays a role in the scenes of international film festivals, and he intends to take a further leap in quality thanks to the professionalism of those who have been working at high levels in this industry for 20 years. "I'm happy to face this challenge," said the new director Boris Sollazzo. "I've been working for years at the IFF and I believe it is one of the most interesting festivals in the Italian and international scene. I'm happy not to replace Michelangelo, essential for the IFF, but to lead this ship together. Together we will reach new ports. We will look to the future without forgetting our cinematic and local identity. We will face the challenges of the future with thematic, artistic, content-new itineraries: the Aragonese Castle must become even more a central place of an art and an industry in never-ending transformation, as it already was, for culture, at the time of Vittoria Colonna “ This piece of news launches the upcoming XV edition of the Ischia Film Festival that will take place from June 24 to July 1, 2017. We are happy to open the registrations to the international competition dedicated to film locations and the cultural identity of the areas chosen for filming. Films, documentaries and short films that gave attention and value to a place through the choice of locations, thus promoting the historic, social and human reality, to its traditions and culture are most welcome to participate to this Festival. The deadline for sending the works is 15 March 2017, but a "latest deadline" is scheduled for March 31, 2017. Registrations can be made through FilmFreeway, the best-known portal for filmmakers. An international jury will award the prize "Ischia Film" to the film, documentary and short film of each section, as well as to the short film and documentary section "denied location".

Goodbye Pasquale Squitieri The Ischia Film Festival honors the memory of Pasquale Squitieri: "I’m working on two movies" - he said when he was in Ischia. “Since this event was founded, bringing Pasquale Squitieri has always been one of my biggest goals" - declared Michelangelo Messina – "reward him with the Ischia Film Festival Award, means to me a lot, in terms of a tribute to his extraordinary and controversial career”, the Patron and director of the Festival commented on the sudden loss of the Neapolitan filmmaker. “I’m working on two movies: "Lo splendore di Napoli" and "Sono scugnizzo". I formerly share this information here in Ischia, because the people of the island and the audience from Campania in general are a source of great inspiration for me. I love Campania so much, it’s the region of cinema. We have to make it big again!”, he spoke during the final night of the festival’s fourteenth edition. During the interview by Boris Sollazzo, the new artistic director, Squitieri showed great vitality and how committed and longing he is to filmmaking and fighting for his art and his land, as the IFF does. “That’s why I struggled to come”, said that night the great filmmaker. Last year Squitieri became the IFF President, when he attended the Festival together with Enrico Lo Verso and Lina Sastri, main characters of one of his most popular movies “ Li chiamarono …Briganti!” From the 24th June to 1st July, the Festival, celebrating its fifteenth edition, will honor the great filmmaker with a retrospective, in order to commemorate and celebrate his extraordinary artistic and civil path.

The first innovation is about the involvement of the journalist and film critic Boris Sollazzo in the art direction, at the side of Michelangelo Messina, founder of the festival. They have the honour of selecting the works and the guests that will enrich the 15th edition of the Ischia Film Festival. When we talk about Cinema, first of all we’ve got to think about the films. In this case, we’re talking about 600 films; many are the works that are evaluated by the selection committee. The Festival is characterized by five sections: Contest, Leading, Scenarios of Campania, Denied location and Special Screenings. Like every year, the amazing Aragonese Castle will host the festival; for the occasion, the backyards, the terraces and the churches of the Caste turn into a citadel of cinema, unique in the World. Moreover, what better way to represent the festival. The Ischia Film Festival was born to enchance the locations where the stories are being narrated. And the Castle, with all its stories and secrets, is a special location for the festival. This year there will be a beautiful retrospective of Pasquale Squitieri, a great filmmaker of Italian Cinema. In 2015, the Ischia Film Festival honored him with a Lifetime Achievement Award. And speaking about masters of European Cinema, this year the Ischia Film Festival will host Krzysztof Zanussi, a great polish filmmaker, that will be the President of this edition 2017. Well, the Festival has an interesting programme, full of news and surprises.

Ischia Film Festival: In competition works Here are the films that are competing for the prizes of the XV edition of the Festival [Ischia, June 6 2017] After all the hard work that the artistic directors Michelangelo Messina and Boris Sollazzo, assisted by the selection committee, put in the organization of this year edition of the Festival, here's the list of all the works in the competiotion sections. The categories are four: feature films, documentaries, short films and Denied Location. Scenarios of Campania: The new section of the IFF is focused on our region Campania is the protagonist of the entire festival [Ischia, June 13 2017] An event like Ischia Film Festival, for its 10th edition, couldn’t forget the most important location: our region, Campania. Therefore, in 2017, Scenarios of Campania will be a showcase for the best regional film production: shorts, features and documentaries will recount us the location we live in through the art that we love. The whole festival program shows that we have always paid close attention to our territory. In the competition – here come the first previews of the 2017 edition – “I peggiori” tells about a different Naples, as well as “Vieni a vivere a Napoli”, “Indivisibili”, “Falchi” and “Maradonapoli” in the section “Best of”. For this new out of competition section, where more than elsewhere participating is more important than winning, we will try to bring to Ischia the best of the independent cinema of our territory and offer a tour of dozens of locations in Campania, docking at the Aragonese Castle in Ischia. Scenarios of Campania highlights the will of Ischia Film Festival to develop its prominent role in the landscape of cinematographic and cultural promotion of a land that is creatively more and more fertile. Napoli is becoming a film capital and the others cities are no more only provinces. Many different views, scenarios, indeed, will be shown at Ischia Film Festival, ranging from great, but often unknown, artistic richness – as in “Natività” and “Mirabiles”, from extraordinary archeological sites to a Caravaggio masterpiece – and the identity of our cities represented by their professions and inhabitants – “A’faccia”, “Lypso”, “La consegna”, to name but a few – to futuristic and poetic views as in “(In)Felix”. Indeed, the festival has the ambition to become the permanent center of gravity of the cinema of Campania, after having reached a prominent position of national and international scope. Ischia film Festival will take place at the Aragonese Castle in ischia from June 24 to July 1. John Turturro will be awarded the iqos innovation award for lifetime achievement [Ischia, June 14] John Turturro will be awarded the IQOS Innovation Award: the Ischia Film Festival recognition for Lifetime Achievement is issued by IQOS from 2017, to support excellence and the experimentation of new forms of filmmaking. It will be awarded to the famous actor of Italian origin on the occasion of the 15th Ischia Film Festival, on June 26. John Turturro is one of the greatest American actors of the last 30 years. From his debut (not accredited) with Martin Scorsese in Raging Bull, Turturro shared the set with the best authors. Spike Lee gave him the lead role in Do the Right Thing. Right afterwards, the Coen brothers chose him for Miller's Crossing, starting a long history of memorable interpretations, namely the devilish bowler Jesus Quintana, in The Big Lebowski, who will soon knock down pins again in Going Places, a new film directed by Turturro himself. There is no better place than the Festival to launch the IQOS Innovation Award, which aims to recognize the true innovators, the game changers, the personalities who reinvented themselves in their sector, who are ahead of the times. Innovation and change are some of the key values of IQOS’ philosophy. IQOS produces a groundbreaking technology that heats tobacco instead of burning it, thanks to which Philip Morris International is revolutionizing at a global level a traditional sector that remained unchanged for centuries. Ischia Film Festival already awarded its Lifetime Achievement Award, now IQOS Innovation Award, to the Oscar laureate and set designer of the James Bond saga Ken Adam, to the Master of lighting Vittorio Storaro, to extraordinary filmmakers as Abel Ferrara, Amos Gitai and Margarethe Von Trotta, to great Italian authors of the caliber of Giuliano Montaldo and Pupi Avati and to the late Pasquale Squitieri, to whose memory, this year, the festival dedicates a deserved retrospective. John Turturro has just turned 60 and he doesn’t have time to rest. Last year he embraced a new television adventure with an extraordinary series, The Night of, in the role of the lawyer John Stone, gaining his second nomination for the Golden Globe lifetime achievement award, after the one for Quiz Show by Robert Redford. This New Yorker from Brooklin never lacked recognition. He was celebrated in Cannes for his interpretation and his direction of the film Barton Fink, where he was awarded the Caméra d'Or for the best debut film, Mac, in 1992. John Turturro is a complete artist: he is also a musician, a singer and a dancer. He is passionate about Italy and above all Napoli, that he celebrated in his documentary Passione, a love declaration to the city and its music tradition. It is thus natural that the paths of Turturro and Ischia Film Festival cross. It will happen during the evening of June 26, when the actor and director, with the festival artistic directors Michelangelo Messina and Boris Sollazzo, will meet the festival audience at the Assunta Cathedral in the Aragonese Castle. After the conversation, the documentary Passione will be screened to celebrate the relationship between Turturro and Italy, that reached its highest point at the collaboration with Nanni Moretti in My mother. The homage to John Turturro will be completed with Romance and Cigarettes, a musical romantic comedy film that features Kate Winslet and the late James Gandolfini, and a surprise that will be announced soon.

Ischia Film Festival 2017: Claudia Cardinale from Cannes to Ischia for Pasquale Squitieri [Ischia, 17 June 2017] The actress will be a guest of the festival and will take part in the touching tribute evening to honor the memory of the great Italian film director, who came to the Aragonese Castle in one of his last public appearances. The homage will be the highlight of the retrospective - the only one so far - of the great filmmaker and will start on June 26, with Ottavia Fusco. The main event will be on June 29, in presence of Claudia Cardinale, who featured on the Cannes Film Festival poster this year. Next year, the diva will celebrate her remarkable 60-year career, during which she starred in many films by the greatest directors of Italian cinema: Mario Monicelli, Pietro Germi, Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini, Sergio Leone, Antonio Pietrangeli, solo per citarne alcuni, e all'estero Blake Edwards, Richard Brooks, Werner Herzog. A few months ago, the world of cinema had to say goodbye to this great author. In 2015, Ischia Film Festival honored Squitieri with a Lifetime Achievement Award, this year, the festival will remember him with a sincere tribute. The artistic directors of the festival, Michelangelo Messina and Boris Sollazzo, are pleased to announce that Claudia Cardinale, one of the greatest actress of Italian cinema, will commemorate her companion of many cinema and human adventures at Ischia Film Festival 2017. Ischia Film Festival, 8 days of Under the Sky Series, documentaries and people from Sky: the preview of the new series Riviera, all the episodes of1993 and The Night Of in the presence of John Turturro, as well as four appointments with the great documentaries of Sky Arte. [Ischia, 19 June 2017] Eight days under the sky of Ischia. Or better, Under the Sky. That is the name of the new section Ischia Film Festival set up with the Sky satellite television platform. A wide programming that involves Sky Arte and Sky Atlantic, but above all a brand new concept for the audience. It is not about Binge Watching, that is compulsive watching a whole series in one go, but an appointment, every evening of the festival, to enjoy on a big screen two of this year’s best series broadcasted by Sky. The Night Of, will be accompanied by our IQOS lifetime achievement award laureate John Turturro, protagonist, with Rhiz Ahmed, of one of the greatest surprises of the season, written and directed by Steven Zaillian and produced by HBO. The television series 1993 is an idea of Stefano Accorsi, it is a sequel of 1992 and we already know it is going to be the prequel of 1994. This story of the years of Bribesville and of the rise of Silvio Berlusconi gripped the audience, that is already looking forward to the next season to discover what will happen to Leonardo Notte and the other characters of a Italy from 25 years ago, though still very close to us. Under the sky of Ischia, there is also room for a preview, the first episode of Riviera, ideated by the Oscar laureate Neil Jordan, director of great films as The Crying Game, Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles. Featuring Julia Stiles, who was already the partner of the serial killer Dexter, in one of the best seasons of the series, Riviera is a surprising and absorbing crime drama that will be released on Sky Atlantic from July 11. The appointment with the audience of Ischia is instead on June 29. Moreover, there will be room for four appointments with the great documents of Sky Arte. The first, on Sunday, June 25, will be Perché sono un genio, the story of the director Lorenza Mazzetti, founder of the british Free Cinema movement during the fifties. The following day, Monday, June 26, in Piazza d’Armi in the Aragonese Castle will host the Programming Manager of Sky Arte Guido Casali, who will introduce Graffiti a New York a jurney in the world of writers of the Big Apple. On Tuesday, June 27, it will be the turn of Andrea Pazienza: fino all’estremo, a deserved and sincere remembrance of one of the greatest Italian cartoonist, an extraordinary artist, prematurely disappeared. Lastly, on Wednesday, June 28, we will screen Blow up di Blow up, a documentary that explores the backstage of Blow up, timeless masterpiece by Michelangelo Antonini. An extremely rich program, that the artistic directors of Ischia Film Festival, Michelangelo Messina and Boris Sollazzo, are glad to have created in concert with Sky. This synergy projects the festival to the future of the audiovisual product and of the concept of festival itself. Indeed, these events will increasingly have to meet the tastes and the needs of an audience which is changing along with the concept of cinema, that is moving toward an 8-hour film, divided in episodes but better if enjoyed on the big screen, if possible, and sharing the experience. This is what is going to happen this year, 2017, from June 24, to July 1, under the sky of the 15th edition of Ischia Film Festival. Associazione Art Movie & Music • Via G.B. Ischia Film Festival 15? NO 1+5 Many news for the 2017 edition of the festival of the island of Campania. And, especially, great cinema and many international guests. [Ischia, June 24, 2017] 15th edition, Ischia Film Festival is growing up. And that’s clear. An exposition, that of the island, founded and managed by Michelangelo Messina from the beginning and that this year has as artistic director Boris Sollazzo. A revolution in the sign of continuity, that’s the common thread of this IFF number 15. Fifteen yes, but also 1+5. 1 because this wants to be a new first edition, a new start that won’t leave anything of his glorious past but, at the same time, is looking forward for the future. 5 because 5 are the news. Five are the competitions, for instance. To the four international competitions (feature films, documentaries, short films and Denied Location, that will see this year his winner awarded with the Bayer Award), is added the new category “Best of”, showcase and competition of the best works of the Italian movie season. A parade of great works and stars that will see a winner: the prize given by the public, fist big news of the festival, will be assigned only for this section. Guests of honor will be John Turturro, who will receive the prize for the career of IFF (l’IQOS Innovation Award) and Claudia Cardinale, already icon of the manifesto of the last Festival of Cannes and in the island with her daughter for the tribute and the retrospective (the only one, so far) devoted to Pasquale Squirteri, that will be opened by the actress together with the last wife of the filmmaker, Ottavia Fusco. In order of appearance, there will be in Ischia, for this trip into the movie season just passed, the next patron of the Cinema Exhibition of Venice Alessandro Borghi, Andrea Arcangeli, Luca Barbareschi and Alessandro D’Alatri, the journalists Carlo Bonini e Giuliano Foschini with the documentary devoted to Giulio Regeni, Francesco Bruni, the “Globi d’Oro” Isabella Ragonese and Francesco Amato, Daniele Vicari, Toni D’Angelo, Maccio Capatonda, Herbert Ballerina, Roberta Mattei, Krzysztof Zanussi, Walter Veltroni, Andrea Sartoretti, Claudia Potenza, Guido Lombardi, Edoardo De Angelis, Isa Danieli, Jasmine Trinca, just back from the award to the best interpretation in the section Un Certain Regard in Cannes and Sergio Castellitto. And also Fabio Balsamo, brilliant element of the The Jackal, Elisabetta Rocchetti, Claudio Casazza, Patrizio Rispo, Vincenzo Alfieri, Gianfranco Pannone, Alessio Maria Federici, Volfango De Biasi. And many others, young independent filmmaker and affirmed authors, emerging actors and interprets that work with stages and sets from a long time. Another relevant news is the section Under the Sky: a retrospective-prospective, an eye on that cinema that does not reach the big screen, but that catches the attention of the public with products of high quality. It will start with the satellite platform that has changed, with his work, the movie grammar of our country, both in the production and in the distribution but also in the creation: Sky. For the first time in a festival, not only the first episodes of the tv series will be played but they will be offered to the public in their totality, as is due to a movie work. Ischia Film Festival does not have borders or preconceptions, but only cinema in any of its shades: that’s why The Night Of will be crucial in the retrospective dedicated to the career awarded John Turturro, that will receive on the 26th of June l’IQOS Innovation Award, so as 1993 in the “Terrazza degli Ulivi” will tell us how much Italian tv seriality is growing. Finally, the Italian preview of Riviera, as an eye on the future: the first episode will be shown in the biggest open room of the Castle. One of the most important tv series of the next season and one of the pearls of the Sky Atlantic programming. In under the sky you will find also the remarkable work of Sky Art: Federico Buffa in “Graffiti di New York”, art of Andrea Pazienza and Michelangelo Antonioni will be the backbone of this trip in a creative reality unique in Italy. The third step of this revolution is an even wider view of the concept of location, permanent center of gravity of the festival. That’s the case of Immortality, brave Iranian film, completely set in a train, metaphor of a whole country and absolute protagonist of the film. Because, if the territorial and cultural identity of a country can be conveyed by this kind of location too, and if the location is a crucial narrative element, our festival cannot and must not neglect it. From this idea, of visual and narrative writing of locations and of its centrality in filmmaking, starts the partnership with SIAE.The penultimate step of this new journey toward the future is changing the lifelong achievement recognition, now IQOS Innovation Award with the aim of honoring the career, the past of the masters of cinema, but also their ability to reinvent themselves, to change, to search new concepts in new places. To not be afraid of different locations, in life and in cinema. Not even of denied locations, as proved by the arrival of the new Bayer Award in the most complex and powerful section as for contents, to give even more value to one of the most innovative ideas of Michelangelo Messina at Ischia Film Festival. This is also confirmed by the director of Bayer Italia, Daniele Rosa, who will award the young talents of the section. “The engagement in this Festival is in line with the new activities linked not only to the world of cinema, but also to the social sphere. With our little contribution we want to give a voice to those not having rights to belong and live in their own countries because of one of the many modern tragedies; it takes a particular meaning for a multinational committed to the improvement of quality of life. An event that rewards the youth and addresses themes of negation of human rights couldn’t do anything but committing in the promotion of the best projects”.Finally, the fifth dowel of this revolution: never forget our location, that’s Scenari Campani: in the year of the greatest effort, the year in which both in terms of quality and quantity the festival shows higher levels, the year in which Italian and international cinema grow with our exhibition and they also rely on us, we start from our region, Campania. We take in a non-competitive section all the best of our regional production, without any difference in genre, format or duration. A revolution in the sign of continuity, as shown by the annual convention on Cineturismo, “Cineturism in Italy; an opportunity for the territory: analysis and perspectives” on a theme emerged for the first time at the IFF, thanks to Michelangelo Messina, forerunner and creator of this neologism now diffused all over the world. Also in this edition politics, cinema and tourism meet to speak on this topic. Ischia Film Festival 15, therefore, but also 1+5. A new beginning and five great news. Ischia Film Festival, Alessandro Borghi “In Venice I will think of Claudio Cagliari” In the opening night of the Festival the actor introduced to the public the movie “Il più grande sogno”. And he remembered the great Claudio Cagliari. He will be the godfather of the next Mostra Internazionale d’Arte Cinematografica di Venezia, after many fascinating icons. And talking about this honor received, Alessandro Borghi has remembered, in the opening night of the Ischia Film Festival 2017, an outstanding person in the Italian cinema that with his movie, Non essere cattivo, has given to him and Luca Marinelli two roles that will permanently stay in the history of Italian cinema, the two friends in a toxic and desperate Ostia in the 90’s. Claudio Cagliari, of course. “I know that when I am going to be on the red carpet in Venice and I will enter into the palace of cinema I will remember Valerio Mastrandrea, Luca, and how we felt like when we presented the movie in the exhibition. I will remember the three of us in the car: quite and touched. I don’t know what it will be like to be the godfather, but I will think of Claudio.” An extraordinary year for Alessandro Borghi, that will end up with the Netfix series, drawn by Suburra, which will tell what has happened before the movie, and with the new movie made by Paolo Genovese, The Place, in which he will act together with Valerio Mastrandrea, but also Marco Giallini and Sabrina Ferilli. The present is just few kilometers away from the sea of Ischia, in Naples, where he is currently shooting a new movie of Ferzan Ozpetek, playing a role “very different from the others”. Borghi introduced to the public of the Castle the movie “Il più grande sogno” (the biggest dream), and has answered to the questions of the co-director Boris Sollazzo together with the producer Giovanni Pompili. Presented in Venice in 2016, Il più grande sogno, movie of great importance for Borghi, was born in front of an arancino. “The filmmaker Michele Vannucci, young, 28 years, just graduated at Centro Sperimentale, told me about the story of Mirko, the main character of the movie, and said that I should take part. Whenever I am proposed something I like, I accept. So we started to shoot on a first version of the treatment, alone with a camera, in La Rustica, a tough neighborhood in Rome. Then Giovanni arrived and carried the film on his shoulders. This evening, 25th of June, the Festival will host Isabella Ragonese, already godmother of Venice exhibition in 2010, an optimal taking over, while Monday 26 October will be the time of John Turturro, who will receive the IQOS innovation award. BACT- general direction for the cinema, SIAE and Campania region, with the contribution of Philip Morris Italia and Bayer Italia. Thanks also to the technical sponsors: B:rent, Alilauro, MedMar, Cantine Antonio Mazzella, Negombo Poseidon, Ambrosino, Ceramiche Mennella, Euro Test Service, Carlone.

Journey into the second day of the IFF 2017: the program of 25 June 2017 *Ischia, 25 june 2017+ In Italy there’s a famous song : give me three words, “sole cuore amore”. We’re not fool, but the soundtrack of the second day of the festival could be this. At 9.50pm the new section “Best of” will host Isabella Ragonese and Daniele Vicari that will introduce in Cattedrale dell’Assunta a painful and strong work, the true story of a woman who just wanted to be happy but lived in an unfair world. Ours. The actress, playing the role of Ely, won the “Globi d’Oro”: the filmmaker of Velocità massima e Diaz managed to give her an extraordinary role, that rarely happens to women in our cinema. A crucial work, “Sole cuore amore”, that forces us to look inside our minds. One of the best Italian movies of the latest years. Outstanding performance also the one that Francesco Bruni, in his third movie as a filmmaker, has entrusted to Giuliano Montaldo, not only a great filmmaker ( just think of Giordano Bruno and Sacco e Vanzetti) but also a refined actor, here for the first time as a coprotagonist. The filmmaker from Tuscany in “Tutto quello che vuoi” (at 8.45 pm Piazza D’Armi, section “Best of”) will tell us about the friendship between a young boy from the suburbs and an 85 years old poet. A trip, theirs, into the memory and the present, sweet and fun, also thanks to a special cast. Impossible not to laugh and be provoked. Coming back to Cattedrale dell’Assunta, at 8.45 pm we have the chance to meet Carlo Bonini and Giuliano Foschini, journalists at Repubblica and recently graduated at Centro Sperimentale with an ad Honorem degree. Fair recognition for a work as “Nove giorni al Cairo” (documentaries section), documentary of excellent quality on one of the open wounds of our recent history: the murder of Giulio Regeni, researcher tortured for days and then killed while he was in Egypt, firstly physically and secondly with lies offending his memory and hiding the truth on its death. To see: in order not to forget and because it’s one of the best documentaries of this year. We cannot forget the other three locations and 11 works with a huge value in the rest of the night. In Piazza d’Armi, after “Tutto quello che vuoi”, will be showed the short movie “Dime Short”, portrait of an America that you don’t expect, and after “Perché sono un genio”, story of the life and outstanding talent of Lorenza Mazzetti, in Ischia with one of the filmmakers: it’s the touching story of a pioneer of free cinema, a writer, painter, enthusiastic as a child and full of talent and stories, such as the one that made her spend a part of her life with Einstein family.

The clou of the program will be in Piazza d’Armi, at prime-time, a documentary that doubts on one of the strongest certainty of the Western world: the fact that Shakespeare is English. Alicia Maksimova, with a rigorous investigation, make us doubt. Could he be Sicilian? You’ll discover it watching the movie "Was Shakespeare English?". The film of the filmmaker English and Russian of origin is a dowel of a program of breathtaking short films: if “La forza del silenzio” and “Uomo in mare” tell imprisoned and brave lives, “Mirables” and “Natività”, two pearls of the new section “Scenari campani”,are together with the wonderful resources, often hidden, of the art of the amazing Campania. In the new location , Carcere Borbonico, there will be a great triptych: the shot movie of Luca Lepone “Amira” is pure visual art that fill, thanks to its main character, its location (a big city), with poetry and grace. Same grace belonging also to the two Iranian sisters protagonists of “Red Season”, who escape in Teheran to become actress. The last movie of this new location is an indian film “Urvi”: 150 minutes, but do not be scared. The style is the one of Bollywood, a jump into the movie world of India with beautiful women and repugnant bad men. A fascinating work that hides, beyond its pop style, a tragic story of savagery and chauvinism through the eyes of the victims of a brutal man. One of the surprises of the section “features” of this year. The television is the protagonist of Terrazza degli ulivi, the closest location to the sky of Aragonese Castle, that hosts “Under the Sky” (and not only). The fourth, the fifth and the sixth episode of “1993” make us fall in a decisive moment of the recent Italian history; the 1993 was the year that most changed our country, and we can remember it through a real movie divided into 8 episodes, that have a charme even in a nonsequential viewing. Stellar cast, excellent script. The Italian House of cards. For fun and and to be touched: Tutto quello che vuoi Not to forget: Nove giorni al Cairo To not look the other way: Sole cuore amore To believe in the unbelievable: Was Shakespeare English? and Perché sono un genio For a black and distant fairy tale: Urvi

Journey into the third day of the IFF 2017: the program of 26 June 2017 Not only John Turturro. The IQOS Innovation Award, the Ischia Film Festival lifetime achievement award will be given to the ItalianAmerican artist after a talk with the big cinema expert Gianni Canova and the journalist Federico Vacalebre, that cooperated with the actor and the director at the movie “Passione”. This film will be screened after a “cinema talk”. However, the rest of the Castle is not lagging behind. An extraordinary daily double in Piazza d’Armi: we will begin with “Graffiti a New York”. A trip in New York in which we are accompanied by its most famous writers (we will call them graffitists). Some of them will reveal themselves for the first time. Soon after, at 10 pm, Toni D’Angelo will introduce to the public “Falchi”, crime novel that will make Naples look like Honk Kong: the duo composed by Fortunato Cerlino and one of the best actors of his generation, Michele Riondino, breathtaking. Peppe and Francesco are unmissable. And, maybe, lost into a hell of cement, dust and desperation. “It doesn’t look like an Italian movie” as many could say. Do not miss it. Piazza D’Armi closes with “Lypso”, directly from Scenarios of Campania, story of a special date in an island. Coming back to the Cathedral, here’s “Un altro me” by Claudio Casazza: the location is the hardest to tell: a jail. And the Theme is painful: femicide, told by the executioners. A punch into the stomach, a work that cannot be ignored. A lesson of cinema but not only. The House of the Sun will probably be the most charming step of this evening. In its program there is a train journey. Indeed, the Swiss short film “La femme et le TGV”, with a splendid Jane Birkin, a high-speed love story. Between the train driver and a lonely woman. Just after there will be the film in the competition “Immortality”, which maybe is the most interesting and surprising film of the Ischia Film Festival 2017 selection. Extraordinary beautiful Iranian work, 145 minutes of sequence shot, completely set on a train, to follow six stories. This year we decided to focus on the narrative and visual importance of the choice of the location: this brave choice of setting a whole film on a train is exactly in line with the new setting of the festival. Moreover, we are talking about a masterpiece. At the Bourbon Prison, new enchanting festival location, two beautiful short films will be screened “Fantassut”, shot in the Idomeni refugee camp, and “Moby Dick”, sorrowful wreck ship with the excellent protagonist Kasia Smutniak - and the beginning of the homage to Pasquale Squitieri. In this location, that the master would certainly like, the actress and last wife of the filmmaker, Ottavia Fusco, will present “L’altro Adamo”, the last short film of a man who always had the courage of his ideas. Here again, he will surprise you. The evening will end with“Sacred Water”. In this film set in Rwanda, the sacred water represents the female sexual pleasure. But don’t expect a porn documentary: it is a poetic and lucid vision of a taboo, a way and a filter to understand a fascinating different culture. Finally, at the Olive Terrace the two last episodes of “1993” and another wonderful documentary “Dil Leyla”, that tells the true and powerful story of a 26-year-old Kurdish girl who will become major of the city she had to flee. A brave and unforgettable film.

Ischia Film Festival: John Turturro among Eduardo, Berlusconi, Trasformers and Elena Ferrante The actor and filmmaker, IQOS Innovation Award of this edition, of this love to Naples and the comeback of the mythical bowling player Jesus Quintana [Ischia, 26th June 2017] At the 15th edition of Ischia Film Festival is John Turturro’s day. The “must have” actor of Coen brothers and Spike Lee tonight will receive, from the hands of the artistic directors Michelangelo Messina and Boris Sollazzo, the IQOS Innovation Award, while the public will enjoy a nice chat between the American actor and filmmaker and the movie critic and journalist Gianni Canova. A repetition of the amazing meeting of Turturro with the press of this morning, in which he traveled through part of its career, but he has, especially, revealed what are the plans for the future, in the spirit of IQOS Innovation Award, that more than a prize to the career is a prize for an approaching future. Actually, there is a lot in the future of John Turturro, starting from a project very entrained by the actor. “Some years ago I spent lot of time working hard for an adaption of Questi Fantasmi by Eduardo De Filippo, an artist that I truly admire. I had to put it aside for a period but now it is taking shape again. I already have some fixed tasks to do, but this is a movie that may happen soon, also because I think it is a present story.” Another bond with Naples, city that Turturro celebrated in its movie Passione, presented tonight to the public of Ischia Film Festival. “I don’t think I’m an expert of Naples, but there’s something I got. It’s a special location, full of talented people, and I find it great that Naples culture is celebrated around the world thanks to the HBO transposition and production of the four romances by Elena Ferrante, which I read and appreciated”. Naples is mentioned by Turturro also when talking about Italian cinema. “I watched in New York Indivisibili byEdoardo De Angelis, I found it to be a wonderful movie and I would love to work with the two main actress, outstanding. I love also Paolo Sorrentino, Matteo Garrone, of course I would be pleased to shoot a movie with them, as well as it would be great to act together with Toni Servillo”. A question on the political situation in the United States couldn’t be missed, and here again Turturro does not forget Italy. “Trump’s victory is driven by many factors, but one of the strongest motivation I strongly believe is to be attributed to the success of reality tv, and in Italy you know what I mean, given that one of our previous prime minister has used the same methods of showman”. Coming back to cinema, in the next film he will direct, Turturro will also play the role of the character made famous by the Coen brother in The Big Lebowsky: the bowler Jesus Quintana. “Actually he’s a character that already existed and I created it for a comedy. I finally manage to reacquire the rights, it was really difficult, and I put it in a completely different story. The film is a remake of Going Places and is about how men can be stupid with women. Besides me, the film stars are Bobby Cannavale, Susan Sarandon, Audrey

Tatou, Sonia Braga and Christopher Walken as a cameo. The film is finished and its premiere will probably be at the Venice International Film Festival” John Turturro is also one of the character of the fifth episode of Transformers, bestselling in the weekend in Italy. At the question why taking part of this chapter of the saga, the actor has pragmatically answered: “I have a family, and with Transformers I can afford to shoot the small movies I love”. Great success at the IFF for Falchi: Tony D’Angelo reveals a sneak preview of his new film [Ischia, 27 June] Great success yesterday night at the Ischia Film Festival 2017 for the screening of "Falchi", presented by the director Toni D'Angelo, that revealed a preview of his new project."I started to work at Calibro 9, not a remake, but the same story told by Umberto Lenzi 45 years ago, but in a modern and actual way. In the last 45 years nothing changed: today there is the N’drangheta that is an international criminal organization that has a strong connection with the State. That’s the game: telling about an Italy that didn’t change at all, and about a B-movie considered extraordinary in the contents and in the structure. It’s an international production; we didn’t start to write yet, so I think it will be ready in a few years”.

The night of… comedy (but non only). Trip in the fourth day of IFF 2017 [Ischia, 27 June 2017] Maccio Capatonda and Herbert Ballerina. Just saying their names is a pure comedy, thinking of them together is a masterpiece. What Monty Python used to be some decades ago, now are these two artists of the comedy, philology and cinephilia declined with a brilliant insanity. "Omicidio all’italiana” is a cornerstone of the program of the night of comedy, a masterpiece that narrates modern Italy, the show business sinking into trash, a critic both aesthetic and ethic on the world we are living, among Guy Debord and Louis De Funès, among Marx brothers and Buster Keaton. To be studied in school, as well as Italiano Medio. It will be introduced not only by the great Maccio and Herbert but also by the twice nominated to David, Roberta Mattei, super in being the serious counterbalance of the two main characters. This comedy night will have an introduction of substance: “La notte del professore” by Giovanni Battista Origo and “Buffet” by Santa De Santis and Alessandro D’Ambrosi will be the tasty starters, in which two stereotypes both comic and social – the condominium and the buffet- are driven to extremes by young filmmaker, but hugely prepared and full of talent. Is a detective story “La notte del professore” with the location of a condominium being the silent protagonist; a disaster movie, almost military, is instead the wonderful Buffet, seen as the deadly weapon of finger food. Before them, “The driving seat” and “Selfie” play with love and our bad habits. With reasonable and cruel irony. In Piazza d’Armi between Rome and Naples, other two original and surprising comedies. If in “Lasciati andare” we’re laying on class struggle in the room of a psychologist, but not only, and on the dubious love between Elena Anaya and Toni Servillo, shamelessly good at making people laugh (pay attention also to an extraordinary Carla Signoris), in the movie that will follow, “I peggiori”, we will find proletarian superheroes that for-profit will justice themselves. Desperate and super fun, as only occasional workers can be. These two works, already cult movies, are directed by two young filmmakers: Francesco Amato on the one side and Vincenzo Alfieri on the other, also main character together with a Lino Guanciale that will surprise you. But never as much as the little star Sara Tancredi: if she doesn’t worsen by growing up, she will become the new Paola Cortellesi. This isn’t, however, just the night of comedy. The lovers of art cinema will find, in Carcere Borbonico, one of the best movies of the season: “Monte” by Amir Naderi (who has prepared an exclusive surprise for the public of Ischia Film Festival), that will be introduced by the main characters Andrea Sartoretti (for many “Bufalo” in Romanzo Criminale, but in the latest years he’s having a huge artistic development) and Claudia Potenza, who is remembered by many of you for Basilicata Coast to Coast. Heroic characters of a movie that tests both them and the public, a feature film that can stun and touch you. We will come back to Fukushima disaster, with the documentary “Fukushima: The silent voice”. The prison of a silent and invisible radioactivity that will catch your soul. In Casa del Sole “Zu Gast Bei Freunden”, for the section denied location, narrate the meeting between a refugee from Burkina Fasu and Brigitte. In Zurich. The surreal story of the most excruciating modern drama, that of people forced to leave the country in which they were born and hide themselves in another place in which they’re not wanted and respected. Then, the mini cycle devoted to Sky Art HD: “Andrea Pazienza, to the extremes” is a trip in the art of one of the biggest modern visionaries, a cartoonist that has rewritten the visual and emotional grammar. An extraordinary and unmissable work, for the lovers of talking clouds but not only. We close, in Casa del Sole, with one of the most fascinating documentaries in the competition, “Unwanted Heritage”: the story of a tormented land, ex Jugoslavia, through its monuments. A trip almost silent among the imposing depositions of a story that is often forgotten or lessened. Finally, one of the bets of the new Ischia Film Festival, tv series. Do not miss the first three episodes of The night of, with John Turturro. It’s super, with the prize for the career of IFF 2017 playing one of his best performances. Today and in the coming days in the breathtaking frame of Terrazza degli UlivI

Maradona and the craziest world championship at Ischia Film Festival 15 [Ischia, 28 June 2017] Diego Armando Maradona and Naples at the Ischia Film Festival 2017. The most beautiful love story ever told. Alessio Maria Federici, at 11.10 p.m. in Piazza d’Armi in the Aragonese Castle of Ischia, will present his documentary “Maradonapoli”. IFF 15 will celebrate its “football night” telling how and how much Neapolitans love D10S. A father, a son, a lawyer, a science luminary, so different people but connected by Diego. A grabbing, moving and irresistible film. We are sure that the Piazza d’Armi will become a stadium, including chants and a few tears, 30 years after an unforgettable championship. At the Terrazza degli Ulivi, at 9 p.m., you can watch “Crazy for football”, best documentary at the David di Donatello in 2017. An award that is better than the Champions League for a film about a group of psychiatric patients who fulfil their dream of forming a national team and take part in the category world championship in Osaka, Japan. Volfango De Biasi tells an epic, ethic and thrilling story without rhetoric. A mix of films like “Victory”, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest” and “For Love and Gold or The Incredible Army of Brancaleone”. Football will be celebrated with short films too. “La squadra”, in Piazza d’Armi at 9 p.m., is about a refugee who hides in a van to cross the border between Italy and Germany, but who can not resist the temptation of listening to the 2014 World Cup final between Argentina and Germany on the radio. Comic and tender story of the, even excessive, unifying power of football. Finally, “Parusia Napoletana” at 9.45 p.m. at the Casa del Sole: mute report of a Napoli football game, watched on the streets of the Spanish Quarter of Naples. Ten minutes of pure poetry, in the team’s light blue colours.

In part a family drama, in part a crime series, Riviera offers a black portrait, but at the same time sparkling, of the jet set of French Riviera, based upon scandals, sex, secrets and deceits. Julia Stiles guides the cast in the role of Georgina Clios, brilliant second wife of the philanthropist Constantine Clios (Anthony LaPaglia) died in mysterious circumstances. The death of the billionaire activates a domino effect that soon leads the woman, ready for anything in order to preserve the family and wealth, to figure out that she didn’t know well that man and the world in which he lived.Lena Olin plays the part of the ex-wife of Constantine CliosIrina Atman: after the death of her ex husband she will secretly orchestrate to become again the matriarch of Clios clan. Her weapons? Her role in the Riviera élite and… his sons. Adam, played by Iwan Rheon, is the eldest son of Constantine and Irina, he just wants to have an easy existence as writer. Despite the fact that he refuses in any way the paraded opulence of his family, harbors in him a grudge that will lead him to cross the limit and, maybe, find the key to figure out what happened to Constantine.Christos, played by Dimitri Leonidas (The Monuments Men), is the heir of the business empire of the Clios, but after the death of the father he will discover how much that position is dangerous and inconvenient. The huge weight of duties on his shoulders will soon start to oppress him and to undermine his insecurities. Then Adriana Clios, complex and puzzling character. She’s the youngest daughter of Costantine and Irina. Her relation with her mother is undermined by years of questions without answers. She has always felt a certain distance between her and her parents ad she feels as an outsider even in her own house. However, thanks to the love towards her family, we will be capable of putting the pieces back together. Ischia Film Festival, Veltroni: “Do-goodism? A silly definition. And I don’t regret having been a politician” The ex-secretary of PD has presented his last documentary, Indizi di Felicità [Ischia, 29th June 2017] The fifth night of Ischia Film

Festival has been embellished by the gorgeous meeting of Walter Veltroni with the public of the castle. The ex-secretary of PD has presented his third documentary as a filmmaker, Indizi di Felicità, and, when interviewed before the show by the codirector Boris Sollazzo, he has explained the genesis of the movie and has spoken a little bit about his life after politics. “The research of happiness is a trip, and that’s what I have tried to do meeting the people you can see in the movie and asking them the same question: “Which was the happiest moment of your life?”. Even Veltroni had his happy moment, seeing the extraordinary location in which his movie has been showed. “I have to say thanks to all those people that everyday work to preserve the wonderful Aragonese Castle and to who has had the idea to organise a festival of cinema here. All the beauty of Italy is here, culture, beauty, in this festival there is a strong evidence of our identity”. He has also spent some moments looking back to past, as politician but not only. “I have never complained about being considered a bleeding heart. It’s a silly definition and, by the way, a human being is much more than a simple word. I had my values and I wanted to protect them, fighting against those exercising the art of destruction, that is often exercised in our country and that has hurt a lot. We are specialists in hurting and tripping others, especially if successful and young”. Taking a stock, Veltroni doesn’t have regrets. “My father died at 37 for a disease that now is treatable, my grandfather has been tortured by Nazis. Do I have the right to complain? Sincerely, not. I conducted a great everyday life, I have been secretary of my party, vice-prime minister, Rome mayor, I have written romances and shooted movies. I ceased having power, not having political passion and I keep on pursuing my civil duties by writing and shooting movies. I don’t see any contradiction in these two phases of my life, I see everything as an unitary project and when I close my eyes I know I have done anything I wanted to do when I was young. I wanted to change the world and shoot movies. I don’t know if I managed to do the first, actually I hope I contributed in some way, as for concerns the movies I did it. I have nothing to complain about”. Ischia Film Festival 2017 is supported by MiBACT – General direction for cinema, SIAE and Campania Region, with the contribution of Philip Morris Italia and Bayer Italia. Thanks also to out technical sponsors: B:rent, Alilauro, MedMar, Cantine Antonio Mazzella, Negombo Poseidon, Ambrosino, Ceramiche Mennella, Euro Test Service, Carlone.

She has always felt a certain distance between her and her parents ad she feels as an outsider even in her own house. However, thanks to the love towards her family, we will be capable of putting the pieces back together. Playing her role, the actress Roxane Duran, well known for he part in White Ribbon.More than Clios family, in the middle of Riviera events also Robert Carver (performed by Adrian Lester, actor but also filmmaker in two episodes of Riviera)- an old mate of Georgina in the art school, who is a well know name in the receiving of stolen art works- and Jakob Negrescu ( Igal Naor, The Honourable Woman, 300: rise of an empire), ex chief of security of Costantine. Claudia Cardinale: “I wanted to be an explorer, not an actress. And now I support young people.” The actress of Visconti, Fellini, Leone and other big personalities of the Italian cinema reminds dead director and partner She’s been the symbol of the Festival in Cannes this year, and after a month she arrives at Ischia Film Festival. We’re talking about Claudia Cardinale, that came to this beautiful island to pay tribute to Pasquale Squitieri, to whom the Festival gives a unique retrospective. And to the strains of C’era una volta il west, a film by Sergio Leone, of which this actress was the main character (“Every time I get into a cab in Rome they play the music by Ennio Morricone”) Miss Cardinale presented to the public Il prefetto di ferro, that right this year celebrates its fortieth anniversary. A lot of amazing memories in this great actress’ lifetime, a career that lasts sixty years against her dreams. “I didn’t really want to be an actress, I wanted to be an explorer”, but after all it’s what I did, exploring the world working with the most important directors of Italian cinema. She worked in four movies with Federico Fellini, Mauro Bolognini, Mario Monicelli, Marco Bellocchio, Luchino Visconti, including Rocco e i suoi fratelli and Il gattopardo. “Luchino and I were great friends, I’ve been a lot of times here in Ischia with him, at La Colombaia, his beautiful villa. We used to work and talk about his plans, he was a great man. He would tell me I was a tomboy, and he was right. When I used to have lunch with him, he always made me find some jewelery under the napkin.” And then of course Pasquale Squitieri. “Pasquale was the only man of my life. He hadn’t defects, that’s why I’ve chosen him for me; I went all the way to New York to carry him with me. He was brave, a great fighter, passionate and enthusiastic.” A relationship that was born on the set of I Guappi in 1974. “I remember that I had a love scene with Franco Nero that was lasting too much and Pasquale cut it.” Since then a lasting partnership started, in fact they worked together on many sets. “But when we used to work we weren’t Pasquale and Claudia; we were director and actress. It has always been so for me, director comes before everything.”

The director, passed away on 18th February of this year, is still present in the artistic life of Claudia Cardinale and Ottavia Fusco Squitieri, his last wife. “We’re playing together in theaters the female version of La Strana Coppia wrote by Pasquale. We’re starting in October in Naples at Teatro Augusteo, then in Rome at Sistina and then we’re starting a long tournée. I’m a little scared, but I want to do it for him.” It was such a golden year for Claudia Cardinale, that nothing, even the rumors about the photoshopped poster of the Cannes Festival, could discredit it. A discussion that she defused herself. “Thierry Fremaux, Cannes director, is a dear friend of mine, that asked me a photo and chose that one. I was very young, I would never stop to jump and dance. I still remember when they took this photo.” And talking about

young people, help them is one of her missions. “I love supporting young talent, they need it, I like working with new directors and actors and actress that just started doing this beautiful and hard job.”

Edoardo De Angelis: ”I would like to make a tv series.” Jasmine Trinca: “I may write a screenplay” Other important guests talking about their future plans. Tonight an extraordinary edition is ending with official prizes Ischia Film Festival comes to its last day. A whole week focused on cinema and important guests, the festival reached this high level thanks to artistic directors Boris Sollazzo and Michelangelo Messina that this evening are going to award five sections winners in competition.Between all guests there are Edoardo De Angelis and Jasmine Trinca, both coming from a successful working period. Edoardo De Angelis, enjoying all national and international awards for Indivisibili, here in Ischia confessed one of his wishes. “I would like to facing tv series language. I think it’s fascinating and it gives a lot of space to the narrative, like did Paolo Sorrentino in The Young Pope, that I liked very much. I also enjoyed The Night Of, where John Turturro’s character was very similar to my Perez.” Jasmine Trinca, after the best interpretation prize in Cannes in the section Un Certain Regard with Fortunata by Sergio Castellitto, that the actress presented at the audience of the festival, gives us some hints about her future career. “After working in Giorgio Diritti and Valeria Golino movies I’ve really changed. A lot has happened in my life, I’ve lost my mother and I’ve become a mother; my relationship with my job has evolved, I need something else. I don’t think direction is for me, but writing screenplays would be ideal.” In both situation, we hope Ischia will bring her good luck.

XV ISCHIA FILM FESTIVAL: THE WINNERS Here are all the awarded by our official panels of edition 2017 [Ischia, 1 July 2017] International and Italian Panels of Ischia Film Festival have chosen the winners of XV Ischia Film Festival. International Panel, made up by Polish filmmaker Krzysztof Zanussi, director and screenwriter Miguel Barros and producer Dagmar Jacobsen, has decided: Ischia Film Award to the best feature film IMMORTALITY by Mehdi Fard Ghaderi Justification We reward this movie for the best feature film because of the brave utilisation of a single location in a single setup. We have to recognize that it is a well written and well played movie; it gives a unique view of the modern Iran. What a success! Special mention to: Castello Aragonese prize to the best direction Alessandro Aronadio for ORECCHIE Justification We reward Mr. Aronadio for the best direction because we think that his movie uses both humor, tension and imagination evenly distributed; the story goes on ritmically making a very well built movie. Epomeo prize to the cinema photography Rocco Marra and Roberta Allegrini for CAINA Justification We consider Caina’s cinematography a clear reflection of cruelty and lack of empathy that this movie condemns. The frame keeps distances, the camera simply observes. Images are grey, erratic, dark, without light and without hope. Aenaria prize to the best production design George Thomson for LE MONDE DONT ON REVE N'EXISTE PAS Justification The choice of the landscape – an unspoiled nature where people still have the time to live in opposition at a modern flat in a chaotic city – is perfect to tell about the history of a world on the run. Ischia Film Award to the best short film SELFIE by David M. Lorenz Justification We reward this movie as the best short film for the specific utilisation of modern technologies, for the intelligent usage of the parallel installation and for the clean utilisation of the cinematography speech in a such short time. What a turn of events! Special mention to: IL SILENZIO by Farnoosh Samedi and Ali Asgari THE TRANSFER by Michael Grudsky Justification We decided to give the special mentions to these two extraordinary short films because they point out the necessity to communicate in a tangled society. Both works, even though they are very different, give a clear statement of the principles that are expressed strongly and powerfully.

The Italian Panel, made up by film critic Gianni Canova, journalist Franco Dassisti and set designer Daniela Ciancio, has decided: Ischia Film Award to the best documentary UNWANTED HERITAGE by Irena Skoric Justification “Ripeness of a society can be measured by the relationship with the legacy of its past.” These are the words of architect Tomislav Premerl that presents this movie. Director Irena Skoric, that isn't involved in that era, because she's too young, starts a meticulous reconstruction work of a relationship of an artistic-monumental and troublesome legacy from a game: the aim is to complete an album with stickers of monuments in former Yugoslavia at the times of Tito. Silent witnesses of a 'usual' past for many generations, today are disused and abandoned. In this way 'have it, miss it' the director tells about the relationship between Croatian people, the place and that history. The movie continues explaining the reason why it's important to not destroy all signs, especially that ones with an artistic value, that can describe an entire era. To not become like that ones which, by an iconoclastic fury, destroy humanity masterpieces like Palmira. Special mention to: UN ALTRO ME by Claudio Casazza Justification Sometimes documentaries worry about “what” to tell. Claudio Casazza in Another Me worries about on “how” to tell too. His movie let us concentrate on the disturbed universe of prisoners for sexual offences committed in the Bollate prison, and breaks naturalist standards of cinematographic speech. He uses filmic syntax originally (from out of focus to the detail) to find a way to attract the viewer and makes him question about what he’s watching. From this point of view, because of the style of the movie, the title relates to all of us. Another me is, deep down, each of us. BAYER Prize Denied Location THE INVISIBLE CITY [KAKUMA] by Lieven Corthouts Justification Kakuma means 'Nothing'. Kakuma is a ghost town, built in the middle of nothing, and pretty soon become place of hope and suffering. Director Lieven Courthouts talks with a remarkable poetic strain about an eight years old child and gives us images that reminds apocalyptic movies and Van Gogh's paintings. Like roof's geometric shapes, all the same, of a huge oil stain that welcomes all refugees coming from war zones near Kenya. Children 'sent' there by exhausted parents. But these children have the extra kick and unexpectedly get back up, organize and build their future. In the middle of nothing. Special Mention to: Marco D’Amore for his interpretation in the short film UOMO IN MARE by Emanuele Palamara Justification To Marco d'Amore, intensive lead of Uomo in mare. The choice of a common man to be on the side of the right and collaborate with the justice, becomes a cage that takes off certainities, attachments and also the sense of the life. The actor plays this descent into the underworld with progressive and growing suffering, making a location of the tormented soul and an empathy with the audience that shares motivations and journey. Augustus Color Prize in the denied location section: MARY MOTHER by Sadam Wahidi Justification A place/not place. A no man’s land. A landscape devasted by the war, and also the painful heart of a mother worrying about his son that is a soldier in a city in Afghanistan fallen under Talibans. Of all the movies in the denied location section, Mary Mother has the most heartbreaking relationship with the places: an impossible love story between a woman and a land that is not possible to love anymore…the one who did this movie deserves trust and support to let him keep exploring his worlds.
