FLOMUN2023:ISF'SOWNMODEL UNITEDNATIONSCONFERENCE

By Liam Danilo Barbieri '25
Florence Model United Nations (FloMUN) is a 2 day conference hosted by the International School of Florence where students from a variety of different schools across the world are able to enhance their interpersonal skills whilst debating on global issues. It is an extremely diverse event that gives participants the opportunity to build friendships with people from all over the world as well as to open their eyes to many perspectives. At FloMUN, students are able to become much more connected to the problems the international community is facing, and progress to becoming global citizens. There are fiery moments and lighter ones, but no matter what country a student is representing and the seriousness of their experience, the bond shared between members of a specific committee is a special one that extends beyond the room of debate, and allows everyone to enjoy their time during the conference.
A few words from our honorable mention, the Best Delegate of the SPECPOL committee last year, Raya Nepal Gupta: “FloMUN was an amazing experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. I will never forget the electricity of a heated debate, or the solemn silence as a resolution is voted on. What I love about MUN is the ability to see world issues from different perspectives and understand the viewpoints and difficulties of each nation facing a common problem. The most beautiful part, however, is how we are able to come together to fix those problems, a bunch of kids with the momentary power of countries in their hands working together to make the world a better place. The communication and relationship skills we build at MUN will carry throughout the rest of our lives and, maybe, into our own diplomatic careers ”
