WEEK 9 READING: PERSPECTIVE AND SYMBOLIC FORM

Question 1: What are Durer’s rules for perspectival projection? (Maximum 100 words) Durers definition for perspectival projection were that it is a picture plane that has either been drawn, carved or painted that captures the entire dpscr within a frame to portray multiple objects. A visual pyramid is drawn by a transparent line to that is also known as the window. The tip of the pyramid is the eye view and the base is what is seen by the eye.

Question 2: Describe homogenous space? (Maximum 100 words)

Homogenous space is the way an object is placed in a space. It is not a reality, it is a functional. There are two assumptions that one must make to see homogenous space. 1) There must not be multiple and/or mobile points. 2)The reproduction of the optical image is represented by the planar cross section of the visual pyramid. Homogenous space is not seen due to spacial limits, where position of objects are seen as points and the relationship between points represent that of objects.

INVISIBLE CITY: DOROTHEA

After reading about my city, I tried to re-create the market place with a few of the other characters mentioned in the reading. My vision of Dorothea was a market in the sandy desert which was now commercialised with time.

QUAD PERSPECTIVE 1 + 2 This shows 3 soldiers playing the trumphet. It also shows the poor society of the city of Dorothea. The armoured soldiers remain to keep the city under control. The main entertainment is from the trumphets.

This scene shows the camel that the author Marco rides. Holding a stick, standing by the camel is the camel driver. The women that had fine teeth are on the right side of the view. Soldiers remain, ready to intervene if any sort of commotion is to take place.

6

PERSPECTIVE SCENE 1 + 2

The scene shows in detail of what Marco sees as he walks around the market. The city of Dorothea is in the background. The main focus of this seen is at the back where soldiers play the trumphet. On the right side and in the middle are the poorer people of the city. I added multiple textures onto the columns, the floor and the ceiling. My obejective was to give the roof a ‘wooven mat’ effect which was usually done in ancient cities.

This scene shows the camel and the three ladies, well dressed with broad smiles and sharp gazes. The camel rider mentioned by the author is seen too. The great city of Dorothea is in the Background. The market is the place of the city where people of different societies mix as they enjoy the pleasant day.

WEEK 10 READING: ARCHITECHTURE, TECHNIQUE AND REPRESENTATION

Question 1: What is the difference between autographic and allographic practice? (Maximum 100 words) The difference between allographic and autographic practice is that allographic practice is capable of being reproduced unlike the latter. Autographic is more dependant on the skills of the author as it involves painting and sculpture where as allographic is more to do with poetry and music that work through interpretation.

Question 2: Why do architects need new representational techniques? (Maximum 100 words) This is because architects focus on developing the surface of a city rather than a structure. The city environment and notation systems evolve which demand for an advanced technique. It is a neccisity that the new technique is of high accuracy as well as capability to manage abstract ideas.

This is the summary of my work. The objective was to create a scene in Dorothea from Marco’s point of view. I believe I managed to achieve that.

APPENDIX:

These are some of the png files I used for my work. They were taken off pinterest, cleared on photoshop, converted to pngs, and used on rhino.
