ADVANCED LABORATORY PROGRAM CHEMISTRY (Summer program) · · · · ·
One-week program (5 days): 21-25.VIII.07 Session: 10:00 – 16:00 The program is designed for students who have already done physical science course (with grades A) or who are taking the chemistry course. Maximum number of students: 10 (the order of registration decides, however AP Chemistry students have priority) Enrollment fee per student: 500z³
The ADVANCED LABORATORY PROGRAM consists of five one-week long experiments and features an investigative approach focusing on laboratory work. One experiment is conducted by groups of ten students, working in pairs. Each student is assigned a different laboratory partner for each experiment (although laboratory reports are completed individually). The laboratory sessions are four hours long, with two hours of data analysis, data compilation for statistical comparisons, individual laboratory write-up, and oral presentations of results to the group. All procedures, data and analyses are recorded in a laboratory notebook. Students are going to use the ISK computer lab to prepare their laboratory reports. Computer data analyses, including graphs, are printed and bound in the laboratory notebook.
Experiments: This year students will investigate composition of various water solutions. They are going to analyze samples of water from the environment as well as mineral water, cap water and cocacola. Moreover they will discover the importance of the concept of chemistry and biology. They are going to check the amount of vitamin C in different types of juices and isolate caffeine from tea. The following table includes a program of activities.
