The International School of Kr aków 1st Annual Spring Gala Event
O
n April 21 The First ISK Spring Gala took place in Hotel Stary in downtown Kraków. The event was a huge success: there were over 100 tickets sold! And we had so much fun! This was a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community to celebrate, enjoy a delicious meal, and dance the night away. The Spring Gala was part of ISK’s program of continuous improvement. This year the goal was to raise funds for playground equipment for the Elementary School and enhancement of resources for the upper school in the Library. Invitees included the ISK parent community of over 30 nationalities, faculty and staff, and representatives of companies that are financial supporters of ISK. Our huge Thank You! goes to lucky bidders, volunteers who made the ISK Gala possible, and all participants. ISK Gala was geneourosly supported by KPPM Paluch i Wspólnicy (Golden Sponsor), Tenneco and Tesco (Silver Sponsors) and Kevin and BJ Kent (Friends and Family Sponsors). Your participation in this evening and your constant support help to ensure that the ISK commitment to providing an exceptional education in a truly global environment will continue. Thank you! SK students can be proud of their Songquest this year. 2012 was Songquest’s 4th year, and I saw real involvement, enthusiasm and determination from students of all ages. Congratulations to everyone – not only the winners! Round 1 took place in March, when all students from grade 0 through grade 8 sang a song for their classmates. We had a lot of fun and saw how each student found a way to cope with a situation which they maybe found difficult. Others found it easy and leaped up to take the stage! Round 2 was held, as is now an ISK tradition, on a beautiful day, and we all spent the afternoon in the fresh air, listening to our friends perform. They coped very well with stage fright, technical hitches and hot sun. My thanks to my fellow judges, Mr. Glenn and Mr. Panetta, who helped me with the very difficult task of choosing winners. The standard was impressively high. Come and see for yourselves at the Summer Jamboree, when the winners will perform again! Mrs Wadiak, Music Teacher

ll preschoolers visited the Balice International Airport. We went from the Central Station in Krak贸w by train to the airport. Then we took a bus to the International Terminal. We saw a film about planes and a cartoon with Mickey Mouse. It was exciting that we got to play with the security dog. Later we enjoyed a snack with the airport staff. It was fun to watch airplanes land on the runway and unload in the parking space. Finally, we got back to school on the taxis tired and full of great memories. Mr. Adam Preschool Teacher

n April, the grade 7 Social Studies class prepared and presented a play The Seussification of Romeo and Juliet from Peter Bloedel. This play was organised by our teacher Mr. Glenn and we prepared it in secret. Then we presented it to our whole school. Everyone seemed to have really enjoyed it. It was so much fun to perform to such an excellent audience! People were laughing throughout the entire performance. That made us very happy! On May 10th our class went on a trip to The British International School of Cracow to present it there. We only presented it to one drama class. It was harder to
The Seussification of take the show on the road than it was to present it at school because at school we had two exits both behind linking, while there we had only one exit. Besides that, we did not know what to expect from such a new audience. Anyway, it was really enjoyable. After the performance, we participated in some drama activity workshops. The first game we played was to learn each other’s names. We went round the circle each saying our name with an action. For example a lot of girls said their name and twirled their hair. It was interesting since just

by this you could see who was shy and who wasn’t. Continuing that game you had to do your action and name to another person’s action and name. After that game we did quite a few others. This play is to do with Social Studies. In Social studies we studied the Renaissance
of Romeo and Juliet period. When doing this play we wondered how audiences were from different time periods. Things we realised were that nowadays audiences are much more civilised than the ones from Shakespeare’s time! Also in that time, men used to play ladies’ roles which wasn’t our case. I think everyone really enjoyed watching and taking part in the play. :-) Penelope Faure, Grade 7
