Summer READO Reading Program for Grades 3, 4, & 5 As parents and teachers, we know that childhood is a time for exploring. It is important that we encourage our young explorers to build new interests as they continue on this quest. We can lead them to discover different kinds of literature that they may not have chosen on their own and search for new ways to interest children to read from a wide range of literature and not only those books/authors they already know and enjoy. It is for this reason that our class will be using the world renowned READO reading program!! Children will remain in control of what books they choose to read, however they must complete the READO reading chart. This chart consists of 12 reading squares. Each square must be filled in with a chosen book from a wide variety of literary genres taken from a list provided. This way the child can choose what and when they will read during the summer, attempting to complete the chart before September. Please encourage our young explorers to build new interests by seeking different kinds of literature and information. Most importantly, I hope you will see your child reading different kinds of chapter books independently and with even greater enthusiasm! Regards, Mike Glenn Grades 4 & 5 teacher, ISK
